sweetkitty that is awesome about the house - fingers crossed that it all goes through quickly and painlessly.
We must have almost been in NY at the same time last time I was 25wks we went the last weekend Nov/beginning of Dec in 03.
Our packing boxes arrive today so packing begins - it is all on.

Rachey1969 · 13/08/2005 10:22

Hi everyone, sorry haven't been on for ages - came back from my mums and have had a really bad chest all week and felt crap. I have allergic asthma that only appears about once a year and when it does I'm just not prepared for it and run out of ventolin, ended up being nebulised last week and am now on inhaled steroids There's something at my mum's that triggers it but I really don't know what. We had a good time (if not very relaxing!), I probably shouldn't have gone on Vampire at Chessington especially not in flip flops! but we'd queued for ages and I was feeling left out of the fun!

Lyra - my dad is in hospital (has been for the last 5 years) rather than at home, he was very unresponsive and very skeletal. My mum was great with the puppy but I think she was glad to see the back of us! Billy is nearly 4 months (black lab) and although toilet trained and knows 'sit' and 'wait' he has the eating habits of an ostrich and no less than four socks have travelled through his system - although my knickers were regurgitated... He steals them from the washing line or off people's feet and swallows them whole! It's very good practice for a baby.

Hunkermunker- hope your ds is feeling better!

Chuffed - your dd too, good luck with teh packing - I don't know how you do it! Good news about your friend, still gutted about my friend. She endured an 18 hr induced labour, it was a little girl and all the chromosonal tests came back clear which is a relief for the future. Thanks again for everyone's good wishes. It's going to be hard to not rave about scans and preparations etc - in a way I hope mine is a boy to not remind her.

Sweetkitty - good luck with the house - hope it'snot too stressful.

Georgie - really good luck with the wedding preps - I love weddings and I'm desperate for someone to make my dd a bridesmaid! Not sure it would be right for her to be one for me?

Feeling lots of movements now which is great and I am so broody looking at the new mothercare winter catalogue, want to buy everything! My scan is soon and I think we will ask the sex. It will make it more real for dp, stop the kids asking (ds2 wants to call it Jimmy after his imaginary friend...) and generally help us prepare as a family. I couldn't ask with ds1, didn't with ds2 and did with dd because I got fed up with people being negative about us having another son (although we didn't tell anyone else the result). This time if the kids know, then everyone will!

Saw desperate midwifes on freeview at my mums for the first time and am now swaying frantically between a home birth and an epidural!

Sorry this is such a massive missive!

sweetkitty · 15/08/2005 09:22

hi rachey good to see you back and feeling better

Not much happening here starting to feel movements quite a bit now and belly starting to look pregnant as opposed to just fat. Sometimes I think "can't believe I'm pregnant again"

GeorgieM · 15/08/2005 12:06

Hi Rachey, nice to have you back.

Nothing to report from me. Beany doing lots of kicking and jumping about - he's a jumping bean ha ha ha!

Oh dear, pregnancy insanity has hit!

Chuffed · 15/08/2005 12:13

Hey Rachey hope the asthma is all under control now. Scary stuff isn't it?
Georgie have you found a consultant?
Well things are ticking along here, we now have 4 boxes and 2 large bags packed and the house still looks full
Not felt a lot of movement with this bub yet, just occasional when lying in bed. Was sick again on Saturday - why oh why is this still continuing - feel fine and then it just suddenly hits me.

OP posts:
GeorgieM · 15/08/2005 13:00

Chuffed - I'm still feeling sick every now and again. Am sure it's to do with being more tired this time, or not eating when I feel hungry as running after DD. Emergency fruit bar on hand at all times now!

Am booked into see a consultant called Mr Cass in Harley Street on Friday. Been recommend by private group of docs that DP goes to. We'll see what he has to say.

Rachey - sorry, totally missed that part of your message. Can empathise as have asthma too. Only been nebulised once, but v scary and boy does it leave you feeling drained. Usually nick my mum's ventolin as am always running out too!

How's everyone else? Or more to the point, where is everyone else?!

Eshay · 16/08/2005 14:09

I'm here, but not very often. I just can't find the energy. I really think I am more tired this time around than with DS. I suppose that's for the simple reason that I now have DS to care for and my commute is much longer. I am also much more of an old lady now, having to stop and catch my breath after climbing stairs.

I still don't look particularly pregnant yet. A big belly? Yes, but it still looks like lots of fat (I must admit that this is largely true). I have felt some movement but not too much yet. Maybe something to do with the fact that there's more padding?

I had my 16 week check-up last week and it was highly boring. BP, urine sample, quick listen for the heart beat and I was out the door in 5 minutes. I suppose I just have to be happy that everything was well but I would have wanted some more fuss made about me. I find that being pg for the 2nd time is not very exciting at all, I am just annoyed at how tired I am. Almost to the point where sometimes I wonder if I shouldn't be a bit happier about it all. Are any of the other 2nd timers out there experiencing something similar?

Sunday night I suddenly felt sick. I did not suffer with morning sickness before so it seems strange for it to hit suddenly. I tossed and turned all night until it finally came out in the morning. What a nice way to wake up my husband... I stayed in bed all day and slept a lot. I'm feeling much better now and am back at work. This happened to me once with my first pg as well. I find it quite freaky as I really can't think of what could have triggered it.

lyra41 · 16/08/2005 15:17

Hello everyone

I'm still in Spain, back at mil's now, and only 2 days of hol left. Cloudy start this am so I went shopping, managed to get rather lost and spent about 2 hours driving instead of 40 mins ...whoops! Can't really blame pg as I've always bit short on the old spatial skills. sun is out now, so I'll be sliding into that pool shortly. Thankfully the prickly heat has abated now, it was HORRENDOUS for the first week, my body must have adapted now.

Glad to hear everyone's news.

My baby boy is moving quite a lot now, which is good, except sometimes at night when I'm trying to get to sleep. Last night was a case in point, and I lay there getting freaked about labour and the pain that there's no escaping.

I read bits of "The Gentle Birth Book" the other day, which advocates no gluten or dairy, as apparently these cause swelling of the cervix and make birth much more difficult. I am considering giving them up in the last month, but can't imagine Christmas without mince pies or cream etc.

I'd better go now as I'm on mil's comp and it's dial up rather than that other thing, so I'm costing her money.

Keep well and rested, lol xxxxx

lyra41 · 16/08/2005 15:18

when I put lol I meant lots of love, not laughing out loud, just in case yo think I'm completely crazy

Elly1801 · 16/08/2005 17:16

Hi guys,

Glad to hear all your news and stories : )

Have our 20-weeker sorted for 25th August - can hardly believe it's nearly halfway already! Feeling quite good really, just even scattier and clumsy than usual, and have to take things a bit slower and try to listen to body! (I'm not v good at stopping : )) Have got seriously back into reading which gives me a good reason to sit and do nothing when B's having a growth spurt!

Has anyone else linked up with NCT? Our hospital classes are not starting til really late on and lots of friends have recommended joining and getting involved. Got a phone call from lady today and three other couples are interested so she's happy to run one, and soon! Sounds promising.

Elly x

Rachey1969 · 16/08/2005 19:07

Hi all

Poor Eshay and Chuffed - you sound down - yes I definitely think it is harder when you already have little ones (and I'm not counting my 3 as much as the puppy!) to chase after. Talk about lack of attention, my midwife wasn't going to see me from 10 weeks until I was 21 wks! I only got to see her at 16 wks because I was worried about my bp.

I have been signed off work for two weeks (after two weeks' leave) due to asthma, think 'nurse practitioner' being a little OTT, she wanted to put me on oral steroids! I'm not at death's door, just tight and breathless in the morning and when I exert myself (ie move!). Not sure how much time I will need off but it so nice to get some R&R whilst kids with their dad.

Dp has taken a new job - head chef in a wine bar/restaurant - some weekends and 12 hr shifts till 10pm but it could be worse, it could be 2am! It is security for us and maybe a stepping stone to something more civilised in terms of hours.

Sounds like a few of us have scans next week? I'll be 21 weeks (half way, whoo hoo!) and mine is on Wednesday. When is everyone else's?

sweetkitty · 17/08/2005 08:51

I'm 19 weeks tomorrow my scan is not until the 6th Sept though, bit annoyed my friends is the end of August and she's due 2 days after me

Bit sore today but I went shopping and did a lot of walking yesterday, was reading my notes and they said "had a bit of backache" it's not backache if it's my hips and tailbone! Gave in and accepted that I need a maternity bra now and was eyeing up the maternity jeans.

Know what you mean about 2nd pregnancies I feel I don't even think about being pregnant at all during the day and am not really thinking I am (if that makes any sense) suppose it will feel different when we are being kicked in the ribs!!

Chuffed · 17/08/2005 09:12

Well dd back at nursery today - spots are gone but she woke up at 5.30am with a temp . We gave her some paracetamol and took her in, we just can't have any more time off in our last weeks at work and she was quite excited to be in amongst new toys after being stuck with hers at home for the past week or so.
Took her to the park yesterday and for a 16mth old she is a pretty good dribbler of the soccer ball I must say.
Know what you mean about lack of attention in 2nd pregnancy - I remember reading about this in the 'best friends guide' which I read last time and it is turning out to be so true. I did bring it up with dh the other day and he looked a bit guilty.
Our itinerary is almost done now - not a lot to do and then off travelling for 10wks straight
My 20wk scan is next Thursday so a week today can't wait hope all is OK sort of relying on it being so. Had first major braxton hicks with foot or hand sticking out of belly this morning felt really wierd but great at the same time.
Take care - have a good day!

Eshay · 17/08/2005 15:28

Sorry, I didn't mean to sound so negative yesterday. I guess things just had piled up a bit. Today I am very cheerful, probably because it is my last day before the weekend. Normally i work Thursdays as well but tomorrow i have my driving test so that's a nice excuse for a day off. I sure hope I'll pass now that I've mentioned it to you guys.

Rachey - congrats on dp's new job. Shifts are no fun but as you say, the hours could be much worse and you never know what good might come of it.

Chuffed - I hope dd held up okay at nursery today. Sometimes a bit of Calpol is all they need. One time I was asked to collect Thomas from nursery bc he had a temp. I gave him some Calpol and he was absolutely fine after that. I was slighly annoyed for having to get him when he wasn't very ill at all but I suppose they have to be careful and not take any risks.

Elly, I did sign up with the NCT a while ago but have not really done anything about joining groups or classes yet. I saw quite a few things in their agenda that looked good but they were all on days that I am working. I should find out about classes soon before they are all booked up. I didn't join the NCT for my first pg and regretted that quite a lot as it would have been such a good way to meet people. I found it quite hard work meeting people by myself and now I have moved to a different area I will have to do it all again so I shall ring them up this week! Thanks for reminding me.

I have my 20 week scan on 7 September. I can't wait for that day to come as I think it will make me feel much closer to this baby, much more aware that we're having another one. Also, we will finally be able to start thinking of names (we will be asking to know the sex).

GeorgieM · 17/08/2005 18:02

Hi y'all.

Eshay - I was just going to write and say that I'm feeling the same as you about 2nd pregnancy. Also beginning to panic a bit about coping with small screaming object. Have got so used to having conversations with DD that I tihnk it's going to be a shock going back to having a babe that is totally dependent on you.

Rachey - fantastic news for your dp. Head chef sounds very grand! My dp started a new job couple of weeks ago and so far he's had to ask for time off for wedding, honeymoon and scans! Whoops. But take it easy with your asthma. Lots of sitting in the garden with a good book and a cold drink.

No braxton hicks as yet and 20 week scan not until 8th Sept. Am getting impatient like the rest of you. Just want to know if my hunch/gut feeling that it's a boy is right.

Elly - did you get married yet? Or am I imagining that you were going to?

Hey , anyone got any weird cravings yet? My only stretch as far as bacon!

GeorgieM · 17/08/2005 18:03

Oh and forgot to ask, where can I find out about NCT thing? Is there a central number or something? or should I phone my doc? Sorry to be dim, but all new.

Rachey1969 · 17/08/2005 18:14

Glad you're feeling better Eshay - really good luck with the driving test - relax! Dp took (ahem) 8 times to pass! He failed once for speeding! and once on failing to look over his shoulder... He's really a perfectly competent driver but just lost it a bit in the tests.

Chuffed - I so admire you travelling, I can hardly make it to the co-op! Make sure dp does all the running round after dd.

Georgie - head chef sounds grand but I suppose it just means he takes responsibility for everything eg ordering fruit and veg at midnight from home! I am very proud of him, he is one of life's laid back lads and it's great to see him taking some responsibility - fatherhood will be the making of him! He's even taking my 2 ds to the football on Saturday. His mum has been really lovely and offered to help after baby is here - not just by cuddling baby and letting me get on with the housework but offering to take my 3 to their clubs and activities/school etc so they don't miss out - now that is thoughtful!

I've never been one for NCT (well ex-h never was) but maybe I should do something this time, I'd really like to do some yoga.

I've been having braxton hicks for a while now, quite early I think? combined with a tight chest, a tight bump stops me in my tracks!

I am having a real thing at the moment for Onken fruit mousse, mmmmmm

lyra41 · 17/08/2005 20:22

Hiya

Heading home from hols tomorr and looking forward very much to seeing my dog Bella again.

No Braxton Hicks yet, hope they won't come till much later on, but lots of lovely wriggling every day.

Chuffed, when is your date to leave on your travels? We'll be thinking of you. I have a wandering soul too, I went away for a year when I was in my 20's and I imagine I'll do it again at some point, maybe when I retire as we're slotted into the school system now with dh at age 13 and dd age 10.

Rachey, glad you're getting some good rest, and that your mil sounds so promising for after the bub comes. Mine's planning on coming to stay to help with housework etc after baby comes, so I hope I can manage to cope. Generally we get on fine, but she does tend to say the wrong thing at times, e.g. the first time she saw me after I'd given birth to ds, when he was one day old, Have you got another one in there? Just what you want to hear eh?

Well I'd better go and pack now, look after yourselves.

Eshay · 18/08/2005 09:36

Georgie, they have a website: www.nctpregnancyandbabycare.com

You can find your nearest branch through there.

Rachey1969 · 18/08/2005 11:04

While we are on the subject of websites, I am in pampering mode (had highlights done and eyebrows waxed, now about to tackle my hooves with a pedicure). Shame hardly anyone sees me at the moment as I can barely move! Anyway, when I was in Boots yesterday I picked up a leaflet for their parenting club (vouchers in exchange for sending you bumf). If you join pre 28 wks preg you will get pampering No 7 and Soltan products as well as a huggies newborn pack with free goodies.

The website is www.boots.com/parentingclub but they are having some probs today so I rang 0845 124 4545.

Also, did anyone see 'This Morning' yesterday? Carrie, the singing teacher from Fame Academy was wearing a gorgeous black t-shirt with a scan picture of a baby giving a thumbs up. It's being sold for Tommy's charity for research into pregnancy. It's being sold by seraphine who have gorgeous mother and baby clothes. Work wouldn't let me get on the website www.seraphine.com (inappropriate content??) so I had to call 0870 609 3890. Talk about quick delivery, it came this morning. They had sold out of 16-18 so I have squeezed my bosom into the 12-14 (its very stretchy and sleeveless) and dp says I look v sexy and it accentuates bumpette nicely!

spangles · 18/08/2005 18:44

Hi all
Rachey... hope your feeling ok. I had hair done yesterday, but I darnt look at my hooves... they are disgusting and the heels are cracked.
Eshay... hope your driving test went well.
My 20 week scan is on tuesday and I cant wait. I want to know the sex but DH doesnt! Havent decided if I will ask yet.
I feel the same regarding the lack of pampering during 2nd pregnancys. This is my 3rd pg and I havent read any pg mags or books ( with DS1 I read loads) To be honest we havent really discussed names yet either
Heartburn has started.. not bad yet.
Not felt any movements yet though that could be due to lots of fat on belly!
Keep well.

Eshay · 18/08/2005 21:00

I had my driving test this morning and I passed! Yippee!

hunkermunker · 18/08/2005 21:07

Congratulations, Eshay! That's fab!

Only read the top three posts - Rachey, those T-shirts are great. And have joined the Boots parenting club too - thanks!

Heartburn's with me too now - just when the sickness stopped... Milk's holding it at bay for the mo.

DS not been very well again - temp of 40.8 and whimpery He's much better today though, phew! Think it must be teeth - all the "evidence" says babies' temps don't go that high when they teethe, but all the stories I hear from other mums says they do!

Scan on 24th - can't wait! Not finding out the sex (unless there's a very obvious willy, I suppose!).

Mumfun · 19/08/2005 07:33

Hi back and great to catch up. COngrats Eshay on test - worst exam I ever had.

Glad all seem well. Im still pretty nauseous now and again - had a virus when away that separately made me feel sick so brought all the old symtoms back I think.

Getting butterflies now and again with bub. Have scan on 1 September and also seeing consultant on 15th to rty to see they can stitch me up differently than last time - I took 7 months to heal last time as I was allergic to all the stuff they did to me to patch me up - I cant have that with DS to run after.

Am very much in maternity gear except stretchy and wrap around stuff - much bigger than last time and even more out front. Not absolutely sure but think have a few new stretch marks on front of bump (already!)- not too pleased but what can you do - and my marks last time faded away to next to nothing.

Not going to go to NCT but will hopefully do yoga classes for pg women -enjoyed tham last time.

Thats all for now I think.

Take care of yoursleves

MF

iris66 · 19/08/2005 09:09

Hi there everyone. I've just joined the site and am after a bit of advice over how to meet other mums 2nd time around - there will be 17 yr age gap between new one and dd so joining a host of first timers at antenatal feels a bit daft! Any tips would be great so thanks in anticipation
