OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
grinningbee · 20/05/2010 10:52

Good grief.

Talk about pregnancy brain. I am 14 + 5, not 15 + 5.

Trying to wish it away!!!

umf · 20/05/2010 11:09

Hello grinningbee! Congrats!!

Babybean1 · 20/05/2010 11:12

This thread really does move fast ladies! Only not looked for a day and already moved on 2 pages!

Have a list to try and catch up so appoligies if i miss anything!

Welcome grinningbee

Great news Lorelai and clueless Glad you had positive news

Contessa i have similar thing with MIL although not about HB but more about what things i should buy and need etc. She isnt normally very opininated so its really strange to see this side of her! We also have quite different opinions on what is important and what isnt.....so could be fun times ahead! Didnt really see this coming due to how she normally is so could be interesting!

Congrats to your mum addicted Hope mum and baby are well. My SIL is expecting in June (eldest is 18 2 days before and youngest is 9 so bit unexpected!) so looking forward to getting some practice in then

Had my bloods taken for Downs screening yesterday and heard the heartbeat which was lovely. Was pretty quick though as MW said i have a bit of a wriggler!
I thought about getting a doppler Kyuri, but think i would be worried silly if i couldnt find anything (especially after seeing the MW struggle) and also what i thought was the heartbeat at the beginning was actually the placenta swishing around, so it maybe difficult to decipher what it what.
I took my mum with me as she would love to be at the birth, but its not really something DH or i want (at the mo i dont think i do anyway!) so wanted her to feel as involved as possible when she can, especially as only 1 person can attend scans. She loved it and posted on facebook about it! Bless

No movement here as yet although have felt 'difference's' in there IYKWIM, but thought they were probably too high to be baby!

Nice to see family pics of all my new FB buddies. Can now put faces to DD, DS and OH's which is nice

1 other thing before i end up needing a whole thread to myself....i am sooo fed up with these damn spots! Just when i think they're getting better, another new fat one decides to appear! Just not on!!!

Anyway moan over, sorry for taking up so much and hope you all have a lovely day!

nomoremagnolia · 20/05/2010 11:54

Ceasar Thank you It's a great privilege to finally be on an ante-natal thread!

I got my doppler yesterday and spent most of the evening playing with it. It took me about an hour to find the hb - I kept finding my hb and whooshing noises (I guess from the placenta?) but when I found baby's it was amazing! I had heard the hb at the mw the day before so wasn't worried that I couldn't find the hb (well I was worried that I'd spend money on something that I couldn't get to work, but not worried about baby iyswim!) A couple of tips for anyone thinking of getting one - look way down low for the hb, I finally found it level with my hip bone and I found oil (I used bio-oil last night and baby oil this morning) worked better than the gel I got with it.

We have found the pram we like and MIL is keen to buy it asap. The shop said it can take about 8 weeks to order if that helps anyone with their planning.

I'm planning to go to the Baby Show in B'ham this weekend, anyone else going?

Rinnyx · 20/05/2010 12:17

umf I saw on the stats thread your having baby in Cambridge, I had DD there (the Rosie) as I grew up in Cambridge

Ebb · 20/05/2010 13:01

Hmmsleep It's funny we were both due in May and are now both due in Nov. My little one would have been due around the 23rd May.

I got my pushchair when I was about 20wks with Ds. I found it on eBay so no waiting. The woman selling it had only bought it while she waited for the pram she really wanted was delivered. It was only 3mths old and half what it was new. Bargain! So yes, would definately order prams with plenty of time to spare just incase. I am on the look out for a nipper 360 double for when next one arrives. Ds will be 2 and a half and mainly walks but sometimes I need to be able to contain him or go somewhere faster than a snail! I'll get a 2nd hand one as I doubt we'll use it for much more than 6mths.

Kyuri · 20/05/2010 13:25

Which doppler did you get nomoremagnolia?

I am still debating the purchase....!

CardiCorgi · 20/05/2010 13:25

Contessa I also feel as though my stomach muscles have been battered - or as though they are being stretched from the inside, which is I suppose what is happening.

DH and I started looking at prams after work last night but the choice is mind boggling. One thing seemed to be that the cheaper ones looked a little more bulky. Bugaboo prams seem to be very popular around here, are they known for being particularly compact? We anticipate getting it on and off trams and the underground a lot.

nomoremagnolia · 20/05/2010 14:07

Kyuri I got this one

potbellybear · 20/05/2010 14:18

Hi All

Just wondering if any of you had decided not to breast feed?

Thanks

grinningbee · 20/05/2010 16:00

Thanks for the welcome ladies

Just thought I'd add, I'm another QMC bod. Had dd there last year and the midwife was lovely. Dh even took a pic of her!

Just hoping for a slightly shorter labour this time... I really dare not say how long, but then she was back to back.

Had to ring for my combined results as they never appeared in the post, and despite my old age the odds were 1 in 1100 which is a relief.

I need to think about buggies etc too as dd will be 19 months when new nipper arrives. Need some ideas!

hmmSleep · 20/05/2010 16:04

Conrats and hello to grinningbee nomoremagnolia, just noticed we were both on the studio ghibli thread, you do realise you may have to hand over your cuddly Totoro to baby don't you .

All good at my antenatal appointment today, just took blood pressure (which seems to be going down by the week) and listened to heartbeat. Nice to have the reassurance though. Sorry to hear about your miscarriage Ebb, it does make for some very conflicting emotions when the due date arrives doesn't it?

Potbellybear, just realised you're not on the stats list, this is your first pregnancy isn't it? Is there a reason you're asking about the breastfeeding? I'm probably no help as I am planning to breastfeed, just being nosey!

potbellybear · 20/05/2010 16:47

Hi hmmSleep,

Sorry but I've no idea what the stats list is?

Not the first pregnancy but if fingers crossed will be our first delivery

I don't mind you being nosey and if you've done it before I'd love some insight from you. I have a friend with a 16 week old and she's struggling with breastfeeding. The baby is just not gaining alot of weight and she's been to see a BF specialist but she's very nervous about using formula.

I was wondering if were people out there who always use a pump so they could make sure they were producing enough milk

Booboobedoo · 20/05/2010 17:06

Hi potbellybear - congratulations on your pregnancy.

Prob the best place for your question is in the Breast/Bottle feeding section. There are quite a few breastfeeding counsellors who hang around there. (Tiktok and hunkermunker are the two I know).

Some people do have to keep pumping for quite a while - particularly if they have poor let-down (as I did).

It can be very hard, so I hope your friend is getting plenty of support and isn't getting too upset about it.

Booboobedoo · 20/05/2010 17:10

I bought a Moby sling!

It arrived today, and me and DS had a go on it with his teddy.

DS is particularly taken with it, as I explained that Mummy will still have two arms to cuddle him with.

Tried to join the sling-meet forum to find a local meet-up, but the site wouldn't let me register, and I couldn't e-mail them due to the same fault.

Thinking of those of you who've miscarried with Due Dates coming up.

potbellybear · 20/05/2010 17:15

Thanks Booboobedoo!

nomoremagnolia · 20/05/2010 18:46

hmmSleep no way am I giving up my Totoro!

Booboobedoo · 20/05/2010 20:23

nomore - you've got a Totoro?

DH ordered one when I was pregnant with DS, but it never arrived.

However, DS is terrified of the onscreen Totoro, so maybe it's for the best...

applegirl · 20/05/2010 20:40

Evening all!

Welcome to all the new November mums to be

Not been on for a few days and am in the middle of moving house - knackered now, but almost there. Poor DH has been hauling everything heavy, and insisting I don't carry much at all... he's even been insisting on doing the heavy cleaning jobs, as doesn't want me and the bump exposed to nasty chemicals - love him

Been busy buying larger and larger maternity bras too - hope it stops soon - ridiculous!

Also, very excited to have been given a Baby Close Carrier by a friend who found it a bit of a fiddle. I had my eye on one of those anyway, so am dead chuffed!

On a slight moan - I seem to be getting recurring cold sores Probably due to lowered immune system, and being a bit run down with the move etc. but I think this is the 4th in about 10 weeks. Not nice

Hope everyone is well - we must all be getting into the second trimester now?

umf · 20/05/2010 21:05

grinningbee I also had back-to-back last time and am hoping for very much easier and shorter this time. Will be looking up all the possible ways of avoiding posterior presentation - have you been given any tips?

b00kw0rm · 21/05/2010 09:19

Welcome to grinningbee and nice to see another QMC bod to join me comtessa and smokey- agree with smokey that the postnatal wards are a bit grim, but I think it's probably the same everywhere?

Comtessa- thanks for the clothes advice. I have been to Malaysia before but more of a beach/sightseeing holiday, so didn't really worry too much about dress codes! Think I've got it sorted now though.

Clueless- so glad your scan went well and let's hope that'll be it for the bleeding and the haematoma will have gone! And good luck to Ceasar for scan today...

Got to get on with some work today, as I'm in Malaysia all next week and still not finished my presentation! Hope everyone's enjoying the sun...

Booboobedoo · 21/05/2010 10:01

Morning! What a fantastically beautiful day, eh?

Malaysia sounds exciting b00kw0rm. You sound v. jet-setty and glamourous.

My bump is looking somewhat flumpy, now. (Love that word, btw). Put a tight maternity top on this morning, and had to get changed after droppng DS off. I need this baby to grow so it tightens up, iyswim.

We've got a nice weekend planned with May Fairs and whatnot. What's everyone else up to?

Rinnyx · 21/05/2010 10:07

Does anyone use twitter here?

I have set up a 2nd account for baby releated posts and photos only

PrivetDancer · 21/05/2010 11:00

kyuri I've got a babysonic waterproof fetal doppler from anawiz, but it's not on the site now so it must be out of stock. It was £180 and just like the ones the midwives have - bought it in last pregnancy and was surprised to see the price, I thought I only spent about £60 on it! I expect I can get some back on ebay though when i've finished with it though.

cluelessnchaos · 21/05/2010 12:52

Booboobedoo I am definately flumpy this time and much more than with the others, not sure how to stop the tummy growing faster than the baby, gets lots of movements now. DH and I are off for a weekend on our own, dc are staying with a friend and then we have her kids next week, might be the last one of these trips for a few years so keen to make the most of it, might get a bit of shopping in but not too much because we are taking the train, now beginnning to think dh had an ulterior motive now.
