ski I don't know what the laws are there but I would personally be straight into a trib (and totally ) if I was in an interview, was asked that and didn't get the job (and I'm HATING tribunerals). I used to go in and say I never wanted children - ie answering the question they weren't supposed to ask - which at the time was absolutely true. However, I've been SE since I was 23 or so other than a break about 10 years ago, which was the last time I was looking for work, so that's more against me than having kids anyway .

OK yes, of course, there should not be any pressure from people to not take the full entitlement if people want to and can afford to. I totally agree. Unfortunately in the real world, employers (esp small ones) will seriously find it hard to NOT put pressure on, but in the end, it's hard luck on them. My point was it's a shame that this itself causes a backlash against employing women.

honey I always thought that I had a really low pain tolerance but it turned out I was ok. But you really need to be comfortable with your options, going back to the being relaxed thing being so important, so knowing that your MW understands your wishes and you've made them really clear makes sense.

I'd PERSONALLY be more worried about forceps or the after effects of an epi, BUT I've had neither so can't say for sure what's worse or better than labour.

FWIW though, I HATE being waxed and would NEVER have a brazillian (are you mad??). I can just about tolerate a normal bikini although I hate it, and I won't have my underarms done as that's just torture. Waxing totally hits my pain tolerance and I went through labour with just a TENS so please don't be too worried.

Incidentally I did get some work done but then took a break

OkieCokie · 31/03/2010 11:50

Honey, Vag is correct and most hospitals have open sessions for you to go and have a look. I recall St George's was Monday evenings and Saturday monrings. However I do recall seeing a notice saying these had stopped due to Swine Flu so you may want to check with each hospital you are considering.

Cosmosis · 31/03/2010 12:01

the problem is that you'd be highly unlikely to get anywhere at a trib (and I have been asked the same in interviews) as essentially they can just say that was not the reason they didn't employ you, and make up some other reason they gave the job to someone else. It's really really hard to prove that you should have got a job above someone else.

carrotsarenottheonlyvegetable · 31/03/2010 13:01

cos however it's strictly against t'law to ask that question and in theory should be an automatic thing job I can't remember the name of which should mean an automatic "win" for the employee. If she can prove she was asked it anyway... I am that anyone would be asked that nowadays. And that's me as an employer who finds this stuff hard!!

Cosmosis · 31/03/2010 13:07

but at an interview you are not an employee are you, so you have to prove that you have lost out - but to do that you have to prove with certainty that you would have got the job above the other candidate, which is pretty nigh on impossible. Very very few cases brought by canditates about interview issues have succeeded.

CurlyCasperReturns · 31/03/2010 14:35

sorry to interrupt the debate (know nothing of employment law me) but just wanted to record my MW's shock (visible and audible) at both the size of my bump and the level of activity within it. "you're going to have your hands full with that one", she said while listening in. I think she was even more amazed at how little of BabyCasp's wriggles I could actually feel (thanks to anterior placenta). I guess it's only a matter of time...

SFF says "Kids are just like dogs, you've got to tire them out otherwise they will misbehave". Right, I think we'll be booking dancing, gymnastics, sports, pony riding, climbing and canoeing lessons for her from an early age. And them some Thank god her dad is sporty.

VoilaAnotherGimlet · 31/03/2010 15:04

Cas awwwww! Perhaps she'll be so exhausted after all the wriggling she's doing now that she'll sleep for the first few months!

CurlyCasperReturns · 31/03/2010 15:10

Here's hoping Vag!

Just found out SIL is being induced this afternoon, so my neice is on her way.....

CurlyCasperReturns · 31/03/2010 15:10

niece! oops

reginaMonologue · 31/03/2010 16:06

Hello Beshers - just wanted to say hi. Skihorse suggested I come chat to you lot since you're of a similar ilk (we got to know each other very well over cheap vodka & fags, like any good romance! ). From the Babywin Stats I'm last on the list for due date - 20th November, I'll leave Skihorse come up with a suitable character assassination!

Fwiw, on the employment debate - by some miraculous coincidence I was made "redundant" from my previous job when the employer got wind I was thinking of starting a family. Now I employ myself and will quite rightly be allowing full maternity leave and pay. I'll also be making sure I get the 250 quid the government are handing out for newborns, and claiming what little child benefit I can - I haven't paid tax for this long not to reap the rewards - shame it's taken getting pregnant to get anything out of our poxy government.

OkieCokie · 31/03/2010 16:14

Welcome Reggie, nice to meet you and congratulations on your recent diffment. Your old company sound like a bunch of fuckers though.

skihorse · 31/03/2010 16:16

Quite regina, If I'd known that sex paid 250 quid a pop I'd have never bothered with those pesky condoms!

Sorry everyone, I cannot introduce regina properly as I have to go and visit my 3-legged hoss. Regina and I went to uni together, studied geeky shit and her "flambouyant" flatmate used to treat us to vodkas, 3 for a pound - i.e., the good stuff.

reginaMonologue · 31/03/2010 16:50

Okie in truth it was the best thing that could have happened because as you say, they were a bunch of fuckers . I still look forward to the day where they fuck themselves instead of the rest of the population .

skihorse - there is a woman down our street who has made at least £2,500 through copulation. Suez Canal springs to mind.

iggypiggy · 31/03/2010 16:56

new fred new fred!!!!!

AND newbie!!! Welcome Reg

cas many wriggles sounds nice Mine is still only kicking at certain times of day - like now...

re: time off - I iz taking a year - because I can. My employer is huge and I know they can easily cope - in fact I know they are saving money whilst am away by jiggling things around and still employing cover (I iz just expensive ) but do realise this is not case for all...

My Mat leave starts on 18th June - when is everyone elses starting??

cheggers · 31/03/2010 17:19

ooh i made it into a fred title.

almost made it in life now then. just the gravel drive way to get and i'll be set

just back from 36 week check an all is well. had a couple of days of hurty contraction type things so wasn't sure if they were gonna let me out again. my cervix is 'behaving' though so here i am

i know i need to answer peeps from a coupla days ago but i've had fuck all sleep for the last 2 nights so may go'n take a little nap. gosh i heart maternity leave ...

quick huzzah for curly who should be an auntie (again?) soon and a welcoming heabut for Reggie (hoping that she knows the rules )

CurlyCasperReturns · 31/03/2010 17:50

Thanks cheggs, Yes, I'm about to have a niece as well as a nephew. Not sure of exact reasons for induction (she's about 38 weeks) Glad your cervix is behaving and hope the snorkelling is going well.

iggs yes, is nice on one hand to know she's good and active. But thanks to my big crash barrier placenta, there's a disco going on in my womb and I actually know very little about it. Except when my bladder becomes the dance floor.

I finish work on May 28. Actual maternity leave starts July 13, but I hope to have my baybee by then... MW said if I want an early baby I should start all tricks for self-induction from 37 weeks (curries, "hanky-panky" etc). I plan to follow her advice.

welcome regina and congratumalations on your diffment. I'll have red wine and pate please.

VoilaAnotherGimlet · 31/03/2010 18:00

Hi all & welcome reg, just quickie to say I have tomorrow off so Happy Easter all and will be back Tues to moan about the in-laws no doubt!

skihorse · 31/03/2010 18:21

My maternity starts officially a week after yours iggy (24th jun ?), but I'm thinking of either taking a week or two's holiday beforehand or "working from home". It's really going to depend how I feel nearer the time, you know - if I feel too big to drive I can get the train and it's only a 10 minute stroll each end. A lot of it will become more clear in May/June I'm sure!

curly Great news about your little girl! Julian too is a jiver, although jailbait reckons it's kick-boxing and ninja rather than the can-can.

regina Roolz as per cheggers: There are no hugz & babydust & babydancing. Hugz may be dispensed at your discretion but not for daily occurrences. You are positively encouraged to take medical advice with a pinch of salt... especially when it has anything to do with cheese/meat/alcopops. iggy has a great link to a guardian article (which I don't have on this lappy) detailing what a crock of shit 99.9% of the scaremongering is. Here in the Deli you will not be chastised for enjoying a glass of wine. Or two. You should try and find a vaguely unflattering nickname for him indoors. You must also tell us about your pets and poniez affiliations. The list of babywins can only be updated at the very end of the thread or post 1. Does that cover it? Oh, and PESH meet in Newcastle in May for raspberry mojitos.

rollerbaby · 31/03/2010 19:05

Ooh hello reggy welcome to the moaning cahs.

Who said CREME EGGS?

VAG do C&W do jacuzzi births or is it dry land only?

skihorse · 31/03/2010 19:18

Holy shit pandora - over at the other place I decided to "do a pandora" and complain publicly about my lack of xmas competition prize - i.e., 3 months & waiting. They've just apologised and given me a pair of these! www.whitedotfreeride.com/skis1.php

OP posts:
pandora69 · 31/03/2010 19:23

Stuff the Creme Eggs, someone said raspberyy mojitos! DD and I have been making Mini Egg chocolate buns today - all in the name of entertaining a child of course (and do not even begin to contemplate the theory that I used child labour to make me cake!)

Hello Reggie so tell us about your pets/poniez/farting habits then. These things are a favoured topic here, along with poo, of course.

My mat leave starts on 6th Sep, which is cunningly arranged to be the same as my due date. However, due to a lovely loophole in my working rules which I am of course willing to exploit, since my boss exploits them when it benefits them and is to my detriment (works both ways, I say!) I will not achooly be lifting a finger after about the 22nd July. Well, I will have to do about 4 days work between then and popping, but only cause I don't have enough holiday to cover it.

On to the serious stuff now - poniez! Big horse has a second audition tomorrow. He was fabfabfab today, and even managed to demonstrate that he doesn't spook when birds fly between his legs by arranging for a pigeon to fly, well, between his legs. Next door then did their best to sabotage the event by taking in their wheelie bins, but he did not even glance at them. And the wind was howling and his field mate was being a general dick, and big horse was lovely. Blub. So we are running him up to Lambourn tomorrow where the potential buyer lives (I should add that this is a much easier prospect than running him to Cheshire. Lambourn is in the same council district as where we live. They want to see how much better he is in a school rather than in my swamp, and the husband needs to have a go, as the horse is for him. They have a solarium for their horses. I am thinking of telling them that the asking price includes me too.

pandora69 · 31/03/2010 19:25

Haha Ski Did you call it doing a Pandora? I'm off to nosey now. About bloody time you got your prize though. Bastards. Niiiice skis btw. Shame you got them too late to do anything with this season. But hey - that's what Calgary's for next year?

skihorse · 31/03/2010 19:28

I already have a pair of all-mountains (good ones) but I did actually want a pair of twin-tips so this is great!
