pamplem0usse · 19/03/2010 10:40

kcoffin if you can temporarily change your settings so that you accept contacts from another mumsnetter I'll send a few pointers RE: how I'd structure it....

pamplem0usse · 19/03/2010 10:42

.... and does the book referenced need to be a law book, or a website regarding study skills??

isheisnthe · 19/03/2010 10:52

Hi all - Less grumpy today! At last. To all of you worried about second babies being faster I have to say in the case of my second DS it certainly was true.

DS1 was back to back presentation and labour lasted around 40+ hours, resulting in him being in special care for over a week and having brain scans etc - think they should have sectioned me for him really.

DS2, hmmm, I went in to labour 10 days late (did the same for DS1 as well) at around 2am, phoned my mum to look after DS1 and they got to me around 5am, I kept waiting for it to get worse (DS1 it was v v v painful because of his presentation) but at around 7am when I needed (prob too much info) a poo, my mum said to Exp he really needed to get me to the hospital.

We got there, went to the delivery room, I asked for a epidural (still was expecting it to get worse, and I had not had one till the end with DS1 and then only cos they said I had too) and was told, no, only gas and air, I was ready to push! They gave me the gas and air, it ran out straight away, no time for another canister to be fitted as DS2 was born less than 7 minutes after I arrived on the labour ward!!!

Am worried this one will be super quick too!

pamplem0usse · 19/03/2010 11:13

Dibbydab · 19/03/2010 12:34

Afternoon Girls,

Bouncing your Director sounds like a knob.

Star your beau sounds very chivelrous (sp?) I think in the old days this was known as courting - rather than having someone try and jump your bones on a first date. IMO the best relationships start from friendships - sharing a sense of humour and common values can go a very long way when the first flush of romance wears off.

KC Good luck with your assignment - you know what they say - "What's the best way to eat an elephant?" - "in small pieces".

Hello Anna - I think you win the prize of keeping your pregnancy a secret the longest how you've managed to keep it a secret until 20 weeks is beyond me! Good luck with your scan today.

Cazzybabs do you know how much your 4D scan is? DH is interested after his friend emailed him pics of his DD due in May yesterday, but me being Mrs Tightwad is thinking "How much is this gonna cost!?"

Newsflash from Chez Dibbydab. The. Bathroom. Is. Finished!!!! I will take some pics over the weekend before all the mismatched shampoo bottles and other crap goes back in for you to ooooh and ahhh over next week.

In celebration of this I am not leaving any cakes on the table today BUT I am leaving you all with a selection of bath bars, bath bombs, massage bars (oooer ) and some face masks from Lush - lock yourselves in your bathrooms for an hour, put on some Marvin Gaye, have a virtual glass of champers and sink into a boiling hot bath whilst reading the latest chick lit/glossy sleb mag of your choosing When you've finished, slather yourselves with some gorgeous smelling body butter and paint your toenails - if you can still reach...

Am waiting for Nana Beryl (midwife) to call me back today - had some weird "tightenings" last night when my stomach went rock hard for a few seconds three or four times. Sure it's nothing, but just being careful - seems a bit early for BH. Baby is moving around today and I've got no other pain, so I'm not too concerned, just want a bit of reassurance from Nana.

pamplem0usse · 19/03/2010 12:34

Hmmm still not working, your email is def [email protected]??

kcoffin27 · 19/03/2010 12:38

sorry without the . after the k

NichyNoo · 19/03/2010 12:52

Hello all,

starshaker - your potential man sounds lovely. Really nice that he has taken things slowly and hasn't jumped on you if you know what I mean. Sounds like he has feelings and has thought things through which bodes well for future relationship...

I had my 20 week scan today.....all is well All organs and skeleton seem to be present, head is correct size. We also had a close up of the face which was really nice - saw all the features!!!

Plus we found out the gender....it's a boy!!!! There is definitely no mistaking it! Looked like he had a big erection and even the doctor was laughing.

So - team blue for me!! And I was sure it was a girl

bouncingblueberries · 19/03/2010 13:10

Hiya chickadees!

Can't keep up with you lot this morning - what a lot of blethers!

Thank you so much to everyone who agrees with me that my director is a big fat kn*b I knew you were good bunch

Congrats on your scan nichynoo - everyone seems to be team blue so far pretty much! Where are all the girls? Maybe all the team yellow's will be girls?

dibbydab woo hoo! for finished bathrooms! Hope you'll be taking your own advice this weekend - I want to see some gorgeously painted toenails in here Monday morning!

Anyway, better go and finish lunch with ds. We've been busy bees this morning: baked biscuits, gave the hedgerow thingy a severe haircut, deposited all the cuttings at the recycling centre and even had all the carpets cleaned (ok, I admit it, lovely carpet cleaner man did this for me!).

This afternoon it's shopping - but boring grocery shopping not exciting baby shopping. Trying to hold off until my scan next Friday before I blow the baby budget!

Have a lovely afternoon y'all!

ElusiveMoose · 19/03/2010 13:50

Blueberries, you've just had your carpets cleaned ? Hope you don't turn out to have a sicky baby .

Nichy, congratulations, really glad all is well. Sounds like your little one is all man! Can't believe we've had so many boys already - maybe it's something in all these cakes we've been eating...

Well, I've just come back from toddler group and seen my friend who had her baby (no.3) a week ago. They'd decided to break her waters because she wasn't going into labour naturally (and they didn't want to leave it too late because of previous complications). Anyway, she gave birth an hour and eight minutes later, with zero pain relief. I can't decide whether to be supremely jealous or to think that maybe there's hope for me yet!! (Her last two labours were really long and problematic.)

LCRLCR · 19/03/2010 14:26

Hey ladies

I've got a question about baby wearing - I had thought to go for a Baby Bjorn type carrier but read they are not great for baby's spine or pelvis? Slings look a little complicated to me - any recommendations please?

Thanks x

pamplem0usse · 19/03/2010 14:33

LCRLCR I'm confused about Slings too... and read the same about Baby Bjorn ones... any advice from you second time + mums would be great.

ElusiveMoose · 19/03/2010 14:48

Just diving in quickly before the supermarket run. Re slings, personally I found the Baby Bjorn great until DS was about 5 months - reasonably comfortable and very easy to use. He loved it too - twas the only thing that stopped him screaming! But I know lots of people aren't so keen - and I guess if mine hadn't been free from my sister, I might have looked into the alternatives more. But I will definitely be using it again this time round.

bouncingblueberries · 19/03/2010 15:17

elusive with all the tummy bugs we've had (including the bloody cat!) I just couldn't stand it any longer! I normally have them done twice a year anyway as someone thought it would be a great idea to have oatmeal coloured carpets throughout the entire flat.

LCRLCR and pample I've an avid baby-wearer You're both right about the Baby Bjorn's being bad for babies spines. I started off with a huggababy padded ring sling called a huggababy, which I bought when pregnant. Used it for a couple of months then sold it to a friend as I just found it too bulky for the summer with all the padding. I then bought a regular ring sling from here and a pouch sling as well. I loved my ring sling and used it until ds was 2. The pouch sling I didn't get along with so well - it was a prototype that the manufacturer was trialing so I got for a special discount price, but the sizing wasn't great for me.

This time, I'm going to start off with a lovely stretchy moby wrap sling.

IMO I reckon the ring slings are easiest to start off with and if you decide to get more adventurous as baby grows you can always check out the sling swap boards on here or yahoo. I wouldn't recommend ebay to start with, you're far better buying from a well known sling retailer such a Big Mamma Slings or Little Possums. Then you can be sure you're buying a quality sling.

this website is a great resource for all this sling related.

HTH!

CazEM · 19/03/2010 16:17

Afternoon all and Congrats to Nichynoo! We find out on Monday regarding the team, so excited!

Hows the day gone?! My number of children didn't improve, so my one and only pupil was put into the Nursery class for the day and I was moved into Year 8/9 because their teacher was off! Sooooo different to my class!

I'm ready for the weekend now though, and it was lovely to come home to my newly laid floor in porch and newly created utility room. Looking good, can order the tumble dryer now! Hooray!

Hope everyone is starting their weekends brilliantly! Currently running myself a lovely bubble bath to relax for 45 mins or so!

carolondon · 19/03/2010 17:03

Afternoon all, i am 20+3 weeks and still haven't felt any movement. Starting to get a bit worried and scan isn't until 30th. I am sure everything is ok as i am sure bump is steadily growing but looking for some reassurance.

jennycomelately · 19/03/2010 17:40

Try not to worry Carolondon, maybe your placenta is at the front which could make it harder to feel movement. Or else the baby just hasn't kicked the right bit yet! The best time to notice is last thing at night, lie still on your back and relax, and you might notice something that you wouldn't have noticed when you're busy during the day. But really don't worry, you're supposed to feel it earlier with subsequent babies and I haven't felt a thing at 17.5 weeks, and I know exactly what I'm looking for!

Congrats Nichynoo My first baby, the hospital had a policy of not telling, but the sonographer just said "I'm not allowed to tell but look" and it was unmistakably a boy! I'm hoping to be on 'team pink' if the signs from my 12 week scan were right, but won't find out for sure for nearly 3 weeks .

It's a shame about the baby bjorn not being good for baby posture, it's just so easy to pop them in when they're tiny. Some of the huge long length of fabric type slings are such a pain to use.

Dibbydab I have bathroom envy . Hoping to move to a house with a nice bathroom before the baby comes. Or else I might have to move out in July and refuse to come home until DH gets the bathroom refitted

Gotta go and deal with children now, never a dull moment around here
