Hi girls

Well, don't feel quite as grotty as yesterday but still full of the cold. Bit miffed actually as was really looking forward to having a "sick day" and lying on the sofa watching daytime TV. But when I got up this morning I didn't feel quite bad enough to justify phoning in sick. Ah well...

kcoffin I've also got a complete lack of appetite. Although if you just saw the bacon roll and chunky chips I just inhaled you wouldn't believe me But most nights I have to really force myself to eat dinner and last week all I had for lunch everyday was a big bowl of raspberries & blackberries with greek yoghurt. Weird.

So did anyone watch OBEM? Did I miss that discussion? I absolutely adored both couples but I did start sobbing at the emcs. Happy ending for both couples though, so that's ok Seriously considering Penny Rainbow for my girls name list now though

neenz · 18/03/2010 15:36

Penny and her Dh were so cute on OBEM!

1 in 14,000 - wow, I didn't even know they went that high/low IYSWIM!

Teachers, am I right that if you make it to the end of term your mat leave starts the day your baby is born rather than the day you finish school? So you can get a few weeks holiday in before your official mat leave starts. Whereas if you finish mid-July your mat leave starts then and you get no allowance for the summer hols . Worth trying to hold out till the end of term!

pamplem0usse · 18/03/2010 15:47

I loved Penny and her DH too neenz......
I think the Downs tests can get fairly low prob if you're on the young side. Mine came back as 1:100,000 which I was frankly astonished at.
Blueberries hope you feel better soon, it's awful when you're not-quite-sick-enough-to-stay-off but still feel pretty rotten when you go in isn't it?

neenz · 18/03/2010 15:51

Baby clothes bundles on ebay are brilliant! I have bought loads and am rarely disappointed. Just search for "0 3 bundle" for 0-3mths clothes or "18 24 bundle" etc!

carolondon · 18/03/2010 16:08

Hi Neenz, yes thats right although you have to start your mat leave on a monday i think. I am due on 3rd August so am going to try and hang on till the end of term (23rd July) and have stated that my ML starts on 31st July. Only an extra weeks pay but every little helps! Of course this all depends on if i am able to continue that long. I am very determined and my timetable is very light at the end of term as all my exam classes will have left.

CazEM · 18/03/2010 16:19

neenz - Yeh, if I can hold out until end of term, (37 weeks), my maternity leave can start on the sunday before my due date, as that is council policy or something. So my mat leave will start on 1st August (which is my 1st wedding anniversary co-incidently!), and I'll be 39+1. I'm so holding out till end of term!! Didn't really plan this very well did we teachers! If we'd concieved a month later we could have had the whole summer off and started our maternity leave on 1st September!!! Haha! Our of interest how many teachers are there on here?!

Has everyone had a good day?! I've had the quietest day of my teaching career so far! Out my class of 6 children I had 1 in today!!! 3 off with a sickness bug, 1 at a hospice respite centre for the week and news today that 1 now has chicken pox! So busy day for me you can see, taken complete advantage and started my planning for next term!

A bit worried about the chicken pox situation though, 3 epsiode in the school now, and now its reached my class as well. I know the Dr and midwife have said I should be fine and not to worry because I've had it when I was a child, but I'm still worried - so much illness in my class at the moment I'm concerned about becoming run down now having a horrible bug or shingles or something... Oh well - hazards of working with children!!!

Going to the beauty salon in an hour now! Muchly looking forward to it, haven't spoiled myself for about 6 weeks and desperate to have my nails done!!

Happy thoughts to everyone who's had good results today!

CazEM · 18/03/2010 16:23

23rd July carolondon ! Summer term finishes for me on 16th!!!!

Jaysfourth · 18/03/2010 16:30

hi all, just nipping in, hope thats ok with the 'cliche' of people here......!!!

Will be getting the results of my bloods for Downs tomorrow.... when i wnt for my 12 week scan (last Fri) it showed i was actually 16+3 so i was unable to have the actual NT scan...have to say i am bricking it a bit. Not really sure how they calculate the risk with bloods. Anyone enlighten me?

bouncingblueberries · 18/03/2010 16:37

What a shite day

should have pulled a sickie after all

won't bore you with the details as it's all a bit long-winded but I just stormed out the office in tears

I was wrongly and very verbally accussed of being unprofessional and incompetent this afternoon and when I swiftly produced evidence to the contrary, I just got shouted at some more.

Of course stupid bloody pregnancy hormones now mean I can't stop crying and really do look unprofessional now!

Roll on maternity leave!

Sorry for the self-indulgent post - just need to rant without snotty tears!

bouncingblueberries · 18/03/2010 16:42

jay they look at the various hormones levels in your blood and can tell from that. At least that's a couple of weeks morning sickness you don't have to endure [looking on bright side emoticon!]

pamplem0usse · 18/03/2010 16:46

Oh blueberries how rubbish, especially when you made the effort to go in.
Passes a plate of cakes.... hope you get to go home soon xx

thecoffeelady · 18/03/2010 16:49

have some cake bouncingbluberries (and a hug) call in sick tomorrow and chill out!

I cry for the most ridiculous reasons at the moment. A customer called me stupid for refusing to take a booking for her wedding (I do balloons for parties and events) because she wanted them for Aug 11th, I pointed out that baby is due on the 9th and she ranted for 20 minutes and how stupid, lazy and selfish I am!

marzipananimal · 18/03/2010 16:50

bouncing your poor thing, that sounds horrible. I hope your day gets better from here
I had a dream recently that someone slated me at work and I woke up crying so I don't wonder at you crying when it happens in real life.

xx

thecoffeelady · 18/03/2010 16:50

should have finished that post by saying that rather than asking her to leave if all she could was shout In just burst in to tears

cakeywakey · 18/03/2010 16:59

coffee and bouncing so sorry to hear that you've had a hard time. I hope the people involved are ashamed of themselves - gits. Can't believe Madam Bridezilla's cheek!

kcoffin27 · 18/03/2010 17:07

blueberries and coffeelady sorry youve had rubbish days today. {passing a big slab of chocolate cake}

Im having a problem with uni work, supposed to be writing 4 diary entrys about study skills and what I have learnt such as revision, and got to do a 600 word book review on a study skills book. I havent even read any books. its given me a headache Im going to fail.

How is everyone else today? all enjoying a nice piece of cake I hope

Ebay has been my best friend lately, just cant stop buying I just got a set of baby monitors which are £35 in the shops, I paid £16 with postage and they are only 2 months old

thecoffeelady · 18/03/2010 17:10

cakey I HATE bridezillas, I usually love my work but today everyone seemed hard work and just plain rude

Jaysfourth · 18/03/2010 17:15

blueberries, what a downer... some people have no social skills let alone people skills. Sounds like it could (and prob should) have been handled in a different way. I also agree with the coffeelady and vote for the 'call in sick tomorrow' idea

Also ta for the info re bloods, i dont suppose it really matters that much, as i have had them done now, and tomorrow i will know, just being inquisitive!

This thread really does bumble along doesnt it!! I am on the Sept thread also, its just starting to pick up now, but was quiet for a while. I guess lots of people are still at work.

I love ebay

kcoffin27 · 18/03/2010 17:19

is it mormal for your tummy to hurt when you sneeze? that always happens to me

It must be a hormone thing for every one at the moment, Im forever in a bad mood lately and snappy, or is this just me being a miserable cow?

I think I will eat a piece of chocolate cake

Jaysfourth · 18/03/2010 17:22

i am grouchy, shouty and moany also, but for most of the time only with DH....oh no, thats normal...

can i have cake too....?

kcoffin27 · 18/03/2010 17:24

jaysforth of course you can have some cake, a nice big piece

marzipananimal · 18/03/2010 17:50

kcoffin yes my tummy kills at the moment when I sneeze! It feels like i'm tearing the muscles. I have to pull my knees up toward my tummy to try and reduce the strain.

Loving the cake

bouncingblueberries · 18/03/2010 17:57

Thanks for the cake girls

I think I'm as mad at myself as I am at my git of a director.

I hate been doubted like that. I work in quite a specialist area and everything has to be sourced back to clinical papers, so being accused of being unprofessional and practically making up data really hit a raw nerve.

Also, I think I know I've been a bit flaky recently and have been trying to double check everything I do just to make sure no-one can have a go at the flaky pregnant hormonal woman in the corner

Really wanted to threaten them with my resignation and then telling them I'd be sueing them for constructive dismissal! Tad over the top I think, but that's what I bloody well felt like doing!

coffee hope your day improves too!

neenz · 18/03/2010 18:30

Bouncing I am for you!

Just going back to OBEM and the emergency C-section, I think the NHS would not recommend a homebirth for someone who is 40 (plus she was maybe overweight so they probably wouldn't recommend it because of the two factors combined iyswim).

They can't actually stop you if you really want one but I don't think many people would proceed with hb over advice from their MW. So for any DHs who are not keen (and my MW reckons no DHs are keen!) tell them they will only 'let' you have hb if they know everything is going to be fine

pamplem0usse · 18/03/2010 18:48

Is anyone else getting a churny tummy all the time. Trying to avoid tmi at dinner time, but I have IBS anyway and my tum seems to have been properly up the wall for weeks now. Think some of it might be pregnancy stuff too though.

kcoffin27 anything I can help with??? I'm doing a PhD and have done lots of study skills type courses (they make us :s) so I might have something vaguely helpful to add??? Do say :-)

Blueberries I think there seems to be a complete failure to realise that when you're pregnant you don't function completely normally and it takes an awful lot of effort and checking and double checking. Silly Director person. Get a good rest tonight and phone in sick tomorrow (hey at least they've all seen you ill today!). Have some more cake. It's my solution to everything atm!

Cherry where arrreeeee you!
