Caro - is this your first? It's totally normal not to feel anything till 22-23 wks. In fact my friend didn't feel anything till 22wks even with her second baby and she is quite slim and you are supposed to feel the baby earlier if you are slim! If the placenta is in a certain position it can cushion the kicks.

Loving the sling talk - I would love to use one this time cos it was pretty much out of question with the twins. I did use Baby Bjorns if out walking with Dh but I wouldn't recommend them for everyday use, only cos the baby is a bit too upright IMO - it seems a bit wrong, a newborn should be lying down!

Bouncing, can you recommend a sling that is good to bf in? I think I'll need to have my hands free as much as poss!

carolondon · 19/03/2010 17:54

Thanks guys that makes me feel better.

ElusiveMoose · 19/03/2010 18:04

Caro, I second watching for activity late at night. I also recommend leaning something on your bump - I find that if I rest a book on it to read in bed at night, it really sets off the kicking.

Neenz, I know what you mean, but I think all babies are different. DS always hated lying on his back, and loved being upright - I think probably because he had reflux. We used to prop his moses basket up so much at night that he slid down to the bottom by morning .

AnnaAndBump · 19/03/2010 18:27

Hi Everyone, Thanks for the warm welcome, I had my scan today and everything was perfect, and I managed to keep my resolve and stay firmly in team yellow!. I can't wait to start telling people now!!

Caro - I only really started feeling my little one early this week - so please dont worry, when I had my scan they said my placenta was anterior which often means it is harder to feel the baby kicking - you probably have the same thing!

I am so excited to start shopping for the baby now, I think my first purchase is going to be a travel system, I keep researching on the internet but it seems to be a bit of a minefield, we were going to get a Quinny, but I have now heard some really negative reports, any advice would be welcomed!

Emster30 · 19/03/2010 18:59

Evening all! Happy Friday! My back is killing this evening, it's so nice to get home and relax finally - it's been a long week.

starshaker · 19/03/2010 19:40

Ok ladies wish me luck. He should be here soon. Cant believe how nervous i am lol

carolondon · 19/03/2010 20:20

Good luck, Can't wait to find out how it goes.

Chulita · 19/03/2010 21:00

Hello anna!

I'd heard that the baby Bjorn carriers were fine as long as they were facing you and the problems came when they were facing out...could be wrong. We have an ergo that we still use for DD (well DH does, my belly's too big now!) but we used a Bjorn til she was about 4 months and it was the only thing she'd sleep in (not car or pushchair, little pickle!)

Good luck starshaker

And goodnight all!

carolondon · 19/03/2010 21:10

Went to see The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo last night. If you enjoyed the book i would definitely recommend the film. The main character is brilliantly cast.

girlsyearapart · 20/03/2010 07:29

morning all.
Had a good night's sleep last night so am on form for my exercise classes 10-12.

so star how did it go??

starshaker · 20/03/2010 08:12

It went really well lol. Would it be really bad if i admit he has just gone home. We did talk most of the time though. Do have to say i forgot how nice the butterfly in the tummy (non baby related lol) feel.

marzipananimal · 20/03/2010 09:09

that's great star i'm so glad

Hope everyone has a great weekend despite the rain (it's pouring here anyway - poor DH is playing football). I'm hoping I'll summon the energy to make some banana bread today, yum

CazEM · 20/03/2010 09:31

Yay, thats so lovely star!

Just got up (although been awake since 7.15 due to the cat waking me up and then needing a wee!) and really fancy a McDs breakfast! Currently making DH get dressed and go get me one! Haha!

The rest of the day I'm gunna do my washing and ironing before we both go down Cardiff Bay tonight to meet up with some friends, have a meal and go bowling! Lovely! New clothes to wear too from last weekends shopping trip so result!

Anyone getting really hairy?! I can't keep up with the amount of dehairing this body needs now, will probably take me an hour to sort myself out for this evening! Haha!

Hope everyone has lovely weekends planned!

Aussieng · 20/03/2010 15:16

Hello ladies - hope all is well with everyone. Just going to update myself fully on the gossip.

Holiday was fab - baby is definitely a warm weather guy - he was very lively and I did not feel sick once the whole week. Lovely.

Just noticed the sling talk. Chulita, I want an Ergo - when used with the infant insert they seem to be the only structured sling which you can bf with - did you manage to bf using that sling> They are quite prices (compatively) so would love to know if they can really be used for that.

Piles of washing to do but it did feel good to be in summery maternity clothes...Just looking at whether we can squeeze in a trip to Turkey in April-May....

bouncingblueberries · 20/03/2010 15:43

neenz I used the ring sling loads for breastfeeding when out and about - but tended to be sitting on a park bench not running after twins at the time of course! But I'm hoping the Moby wrap I'm planning to get will be great for breastfeeding on the go

Fab news star you minx you!

Have a lovely weekend everyone!

Chulita · 20/03/2010 18:12

aussie I only discovered the Ergo when DD was about 8 months so we'd used the baby bjorn when she was really little. I'm wondering whether to get the infant insert for the ergo and selling the bjorn cos it seems silly to have two! The ergo is brilliant, so I'd be quite happy to just use that but I don't know about bfing, I'll have to try it on and see!
Wouldn't the Moby be really sweaty? It looks so cosy but I can't help but think it's going to be very warm in the summer.
I feel so spoilt, my parents were down for 2 days and my mum spent the time watching DD so I could nap, cooking and washing up and DH got the vacuum out today so the house looks lovely.
On the downside I'm coming down with something, my throat feels like sandpaper...argh!

bouncingblueberries · 20/03/2010 19:15

chulita I really fancied getting an Ergo with ds, but bought a mei tai instead - can't remember why now, think I got the mei tai second hand so was the cheaper option (I kept typing that as mai tai )

As for the Moby being a bit hot a sweaty - possibly during the summer but I've got a few other slings to rely on as back-up

Found this comparison chart if anyone's interested in comparing the pro and cons of various sling types.

bouncingblueberries · 20/03/2010 19:17

oh and I've got sandpaper throat too thank god I had my tonsils out last year, so at least I know I'm not in for a dose of tonsilitis!

girlsyearapart · 20/03/2010 19:27

just managed to get the dds down for the night after much threatening persuasion so what the f**k are next door drilling for????!! dd2 has now woken screaming..

pamplem0usse · 20/03/2010 19:58

Hello lovelies....
Sorry I haven't be around at all today, feeling properly rubbish
star thrilled to hear about your night, you must be bouncing around today.
Blueberries get better soon. And thanks for the slings help!
Aussie pleased you had a good holiday!!
Girls next door neighbours are rubbish sometimes aren't they. Ours choose to have blazing rows (drunken father and teenage daughter) from 9pm-midnight about once a week or so. That's going to be an interesting one when our LO arrives; 'excuse me, please can you row more quietly and with less offensive language'
Who've I left out?!
xx

weehector · 21/03/2010 00:12

star

starshaker · 21/03/2010 01:08

I was having a good day till he told me tonight he thinks its better if we just stay friends so feeling pretty crap and stupid at the moment.

Missus84 · 21/03/2010 01:29

Slings - I've been given a Babasling by a friend, but have just read on another thread that that style of "bag" sling aren't good for newborns as they can cause suffocation! Anyone have any experience with them?

girlsyearapart · 21/03/2010 07:32

~Oh dear star what has caused the attack of cold feet??

Re slings- no idea I was thoroughly rubbish at being a 'baby wearer'..

Well the drilling stopped and the girls slept all night though had an early morning wake up call at 530 am from dd2. urgh.

starshaker · 21/03/2010 08:00

No idea why the change maybe it was just too much for him. Dont think i believe in love or there being somebody out there for everybody anymore. Just need to hope i dont lose him as a friend.
Gonna just concentrate on dd and the twins now.
