Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
beckyg123 · 26/04/2010 21:13

Evening all!
Thanks for all the great chat about hospital bags etc. I think i'll leave it a few weeks before packing but start a list soon! Lots of things on here i never thought of.
stac i have been told that the royal provide nappies? will check with the midwife next time i see her- think its 7th may.

memphis i was thinking same about witch hazel- what is it for?

DH your not alone in your thinking about baby, after the baby show i had a bit of a melt down and was convinced that by getting so organised i'd jinxed everything and something was bound to go wrong. I know its hard but we really can't afford to let ourselves worry like that- its too stressful! I ended up getting out for a walk with my ipod and felt much better when i got home- negative thoughts all walked away!

I just had a lovely bath as my whole body was aching today- bump is on the move again and i now have the under boob pain someone was talking about a few days ago! Oh- its so draining!
I have also taken a chunk out of my ankle with the razor- i used to do it when i was a teenager all the time - man i forgot how much it hurts and bleeds
Heartburn also driving me bonkers!

beckyg123 · 26/04/2010 21:19

DH just read that back and think it sounds a bit dismissive- sorry, wasn't thinking that way.
It is so hard hearing stories like that and i think with our hormones the way they are we tend to think the worst of everything. The chances of something awful happening are so very low- we need to think about all the happy times ahead once our little ones are here- lets face it, there is way more chance of us all having plenty of them
Hope your ok ((hug))

DesperateHousewife21 · 26/04/2010 21:26

becky No I didnt think you were dismissive at all, bless you!
All i need is to be told Im being silly and its so so so unlikely anything awful will really happen but your right its the hormones and not keeping myself busy every day gives me alot of free time to think these dreadful things up.

LO is happy and kicking away right now, I need to keep looking on the bright side

Just kick me up the bum and tell me Im being silly when I think these things!

stac14 · 26/04/2010 22:02

becky i think they do provide them, just thought i would add it to my list just incase.

dh hun it is normal to worry, do you manage to rationalise the thoughts like becky did? If its taking over you should talk to someone. Don't want to frighten you and your probs just being silly or like me have too much time on your hands.

memphis what is witch hazel for?

I also heard arnica cream or tablets are good for bruising after c-s x

DH ur really not on ur own with ur thoughts, im terrified about Downs at the moment, not nice is it.
I have finally caught up on the thread again, seems i fall behind really easily. I cant remember who said what thought so forgive me for not replying by name to people.

Someone said about ordering carpet and the man not believing ur measurements(My god that is a BIG room!) I did the most ridiculous thing, i took measurements for the babies room but only wrote down the cm and not the mtrs so the room is 2m 96cm one way and 2m 60cm the other. So i gave the man in the carpet shop the piece of paper with 96cmx60cm!!!!! He says 'are u sure these measurements are right' i say 'ummmm yeah' as in do i look stupid......i had already told him it was for a babys room, so he holds out his arms and says so ur room is only this big!!!! then i realized what a dick i had been and wanted to fall through the floor, he thought it was hilarious!!!

U guys are scaring me at the moment as i havent even thought about my bag for the hospital and actually havent brought any nappies, is that really wrong. I thought Id wait till the babys room is done, which could only be a few weeks if i have anything to do with it!

I have just had a laughing fit about the carpet shop, shit it was so embarrasing!
Im off to bed now, night night xx

stac14 · 26/04/2010 23:15

hey ladies, just had a quick check online regarding maternity pads vs sanitary towels and it says you should stick to maternity pads as they are made precisely for that purpose. Anyway boots, mothercare and toysrus do slimline pads but boots seem to have come out on top they come in a £1.99 for 12, i'm going for them and have the fatter ones just incase x

DeeLite · 27/04/2010 08:13

Heh @ Viksam. The great thing about being pregnant is that you can blame these kinds of things on pregnancy brain.

I am also scared by how organised everyone seems to be. I'm not planning to do anything until I finish work (exactly one month before due date). I just don't have time and everything takes so much research. I'm getting a car seat from my sister-in-law. After that, there's nothing that's absolutely essential and that can't be panic-bought and next-day delivered from John Lewis if the worst comes to the worst and baby comes early.

Haven't had time to post in a couple of weeks but have now finally caught up on a few pages of posts and posted a bumpshot to my profile.

Enjoy the lovely sunny day everyone.

D x

DesperateHousewife21 · 27/04/2010 09:13

stac and vik thanks for the support I think Im going to mention it to my mw (although not holding out much hope for her to say anything useful, shes not v good) she'll prob just say "oh its normal to worry" and that'll be it but Ill give it a go but if she dismisses it Ill speak to my doc too.

Its a lovely sunny day here today, Im going out with my mum soon and I think Ill wear my new white linen maternity trousers I got yesterday

memphis83 · 27/04/2010 09:40

stac right im off to boots to start stocking up on the pads! i dont know what witch hazel was for someone else had added to their list and i was curious, i read about arnica tablets are better than cream start taking at 38 weeks, as they help with internal bruising whereas the cream is for outer bruising only, my friend said dettol in your bath after helps too but that sounds a bit scary to me!
viksam it was me with the carpet fitter all our rooms apart from toilets are 5mx5m so i knew i wasnt going mad, our house is a converted missionary so it just has 4 big rooms which is great until you have the expence of carpet! dh doesnt like the baby having such a big room as he will be lost but it will be like a playroom too! you should have said to your carpetman yes im carpeting the understairs cupboard!
dh may be worth talking to the doctor, just try and think how many thousands of babies are born each year in this country it is such a small percentage that something goes wrong, try and think positive(i know sometimes its hard) and im very envious of you with white linen trousers i bought myself some black ones last week, i cant go near food without dropping it down myself so white was out of the question!

Jojobil · 27/04/2010 09:56

Hi Girls,

Pads are pads I personally think that thick Always are the best...
30 weeks today and off for a scan to check how big LO is and to see the doctor. I am having an elective anyway as they got it completely wrong with DD but apparently it's good to monitor.

Enjoy the sun:P

kkfairybrains · 27/04/2010 10:38

jojo id love to be getting another scan!
memphis i think witch hazel is for your bits afterwards and for in the bath as its great healing properties.supposed to be soothing.
dee great bump pic! you look so well!
i took my pic last night now i just have to get round to getting it up! just lying on my side here watching my belly move and oh my god its mental how visible the movements are!can literally see a piece poking out and moving round and round!class!
~*dh you need to try not to worry hun.definately mention it to the midwife cos you'll worry yourself silly. there is soooooooooo little chance of anything happening your little man.just try to focus on how brilliant its gonna be when he's here.enjoy your day.weather crap here in ireland! dark drizzly day!

memphis83 · 27/04/2010 13:30

finally got a dreamgenii pillow today, i walked out of shop with it got all the way across town to the car park b4 realising i felt so guilty the woman thought i was mad when i went back to pay for it!! im gutted i went to get my tesco hamper and every tesco is out of stock!!!

Wonderstuff · 27/04/2010 15:55

I brought the slimline mothercare pads first time and they are rubbish - you imagine that you want the slim ones but actually the size of mattress ones are really nice because they provide a bit of cushioning which is welcome when you are a bit sore and swollen.

Not for hospital but dh got in some piles treatment and some wet toilet tissue for home which was essential for a few days. Lavender oil and tea tree oil are nice to have in, mix a few drops with some milk and pour in the bath - tea tree is anti-septic and lavender just smells nice. Appernently they used to send women home with a big bag of salt (ouch).

I got through 2 nighties and was left with nothing! So will definitly pack 3 this time.
Lip salve and drinks are good cos gas and air gives you a dry mouth. I didn't have a water spray - didn't miss not having one..

Jojobil · 27/04/2010 16:30

I am so upset at the moment. Scan went well but, met the consultant which went well too.. But then she went to the Head consultant at the hospital and basically I was told that they will meet me again at 37 weeks and the Head consultant, who has not even seen me prefers vaginal birth! After all there is only 30% chance that it will go wrong... So seems that depending on the person I see I am being told something else. The midwife already told me I will have an elective 2 weeks ago. Now it does not look so. I just feel like just an number for them. I don't even have anyone to call.

Sorry for rant

stac14 · 27/04/2010 16:37

dh your probs fine hun as everyone says very unlikely anything will happen. I am a natural worrier but can panic easily which is why gp keeps an eye on me during pregnancy. I got my white linen trousers from the next clearance shop for £10 and i love them lol.

memphis i'm defo going to get the arnica tabs and cream. Lol at you with your pillow bet the girl in the shop was wondering why you bothered to come back lol.

On the subject of sanitory vs maternity pads. For my period i usually have to use always ultra night time and at bed i need to wear two as i am extremely heavy due to pcos. Even doing this i have to change often. This is worse after babys born, so i'm willing to try the slimline and thicker ones. Can understand why the thick ones are good for vaginal birth for padding but to me they just felt like very cheap sanitary pads. Trial and error eh? Cant remember who mentioned the wet loo roll and pile cream but thats a fab idea. I also bought some dry shampoo which stops hair looking greasy. Thought it would be a good idea as i may struggle to get in and out the bath so much, be easier to wash at sink sometimes.

Hows everyone today? I've had a great day with my best friend, went shopping, checked my baby stuff and looks at old pics, so funny lol xxx

jojo demand a face to face with head cons regarding the birth hes not even met you therefore you should be able to explain your fears. What was baby weighing in at? Defo contact the hossie. I've been told due to 3rd degree tearing with ds its not advisable to give birth naturally, hope you get what you need hun x

OP posts:
Jojobil · 27/04/2010 16:55

Whats the hossie?

stac14 · 27/04/2010 18:09

meant to ask earlier does anyone feel their driving is becoming questionable? I have banged a few wing mirrors, its like my spacial awareness is crap. Just need to be more careful as we live too far away from school and shops. Going to get dp to do a weekly instead of monthly shop to save me going to the shops daily. Didnt drive when i had ds so not sure if this is normal. X

DD's head was 37 cm above average, she was 56 cm long and 9.11. They checked LO and overall he is average but his head is in the top centile at 30cm already... They scanned DD last time and she was supposed to be average too...

I don't even have an number to call and every time I meet someone else..

Stac Yeah i feel like my driving is really bad, i scraped my bumper for the first time the other day, was a bit mad!
My god i havent even thought about pads etc, i liked the idea of us coming up with a list of stuff to take into the hospital with us, could we make that a generic list like our due date list that everyone can add to?? I really need to put a bump pic on but im so crap ill have to ask DH for help.
Going to sort the carpet for LO room out tomorrow and get that booked and DH has decided that he doesnt want to paint so if i book a decorator he will pay!! Thats fine with me, so i will be doing that tomorrow too, Ohhh its so exciting!!
Hope everyone is ok,
xxx

d=1272206605875 reminder of new thread link get bookmarking

viksam I am getting worried I may have to give up driving, but trying to keep going as long as possible although when dp is with me I let him drive lol

Thats a good idea to make up a list like our stats list to add or remove items for the hospital bag

jojo any joy with the hospital or gp? I have been told that a 3rd or 4th degree tear merits a cesarean due to the complications it can have on the mother, regardless of the size of the baby at the moment

Hows everyone else? I am totally shattered as have been out all day. Tomorrow is ds's 11th birthday so defo not a quiet day tomorrow either lol. Must remember to get a card xxx

OP posts:
kkfairybrains · 28/04/2010 15:48

yeah vik and stac that was the idea i had for the hospital bag list that people could add or remove from the one i made up cos mine was missing bits from it!
jojo definately talk to your midwife about your concerns as its definately not good for you to be worrying and stressing over this when you were already told you could have section. iv nothing to go by re births but can imagine it was very traumatic and not something you should have to worry about again when there is another way around it.
stac on a few occasions i'v lost concentration when im driving but def not too bad that i'd have to give it up! i have heard other women saying though that they're crap drivers and parkers while preg!
stac are you having a party or anything for ds?
vik id love if dp said he'd pay to get a decorator in! when he does it he never finishes it properly so our whole house has bits that needs to be touched up and stuff and it really annoys me! we got the floor for LO room yesterday so just have to wait for my brother to put it down now!
