Thought I'd pop back and say a quick hello on here now that I am finally in the third trimester, at least by one way of counting it... Well I'm 27 weeks today, 3 months today until my due date. I'm still enjoying being pregnant, it's lovely to have such a definite unmistakeable bump and I like being made a fuss of! Struggling to walk far though as I get horrendous stitch-like pain and also backache.

Hope you're all well and happy!

stac14 · 25/04/2010 19:15

no mlic didnt get to go but did get my toiletries and hospital bag so i can start getting my bits and peices in. Thats a fab idea bout the formula milk. What kind of milk do you start off with now? With ds it was sma gold cap, then white cap but within 6wks he was on millupa mulumil for hungry babies. Any advice would be great thanks

Hi all hope people had a good weekend (sorry too tired to catch up properly). Had a pretty good weekend - dh was lovely and made sure I had a nice lie in yesterday and I spoke to my friend who just had a baby and that made me feel much better (was really flagging) she said 'it really doesn't last forever' I really have to try to focus on how fab it is that I'm having a baby rather than how rubbish it is that I'm pregnant. She sounded really fab, if a bit overwhelmed - she lives miles and miles away which is such a shame, wish I could go and see her.

I had good sleep last night - dd is doing really well sleeping through and much better at going to bed (no arguments yesterday and only went up a few times tonight, though she was nappyless trying to change into her fave dress on one occaision) I actually had loads of energy this morning which was cool. Totally shattered by 3 though and spent a good half hour sobbing at about 5 because I'd been getting all hormonal and worried about leaving dd on Friday - what if I die and she is so tiny still type worries. I read once that having children is like having your heart forever outside your body and it is so true, I worry so much for her and she is such a fab kid I really don't need too. DH thinks I'm being silly, I'm really looking forward to having some time just us, but really soo worried about leaving her.

Finding it really painful to roll over in bed and get out of bed, also starting to waddle a little - didn't feel like this last time until dd was engaged, but feels like this little monkey burrows into my pelvis at night. Got midwife on Wed so will ask about it. Looked through the NHS pregnancy guide today - I have every minor symptom listed except swollen ankles - guess I should really be pleased I don't have the serious ones !

MLIC I find chewy rennies the most palatable antacid, its that chalky thing I can't bear.

Still have absolutly nothing sorted for this baby - if he comes early I'm totally stuffed.

Anyway off to bed, dd invariably wakes in the night on a Sunday - just to keep me on my toes at work

Oooh, my topic title got chosen! I'm glad people liked it.

Decorating is nearly done! Just got some cabling to tidy, shelves to put up and the cot to build. I cleared up all the sheeting and vacuumed yesterday, so the room is now looking less like a workshop and more like a nursery! Though it is a little scary, seeing it is really hitting home that in less than three months I'll be a mother.

Back at work today, so I should start having more time to read and post again! I sympathise with those stuck at home climbing the walls with boredom, I have a feeling that after the novelty of maternity leave wears off once I stop working in 7 weeks then I'll be doing the same.

I think I'm going to write myself a list of things to do and slowly work through it. Stuff like sorting the paperwork, cleaning out kitchen cupboards or even just writing down some of the story ideas in my head. Then I can at least feel like I've achieved something during the day that I can discuss with DH when he gets home from work.

I'm hoping to give birth at home and never darken the door of the hospital, but I'm packing myself some bags just in case. I've included my lists below... There are lots of similarities, KK. Also being a first timer, any advice on what I'm planning on taking/not taking would be appreciated!

DH is also responsible for grabbing the car seat from the porch as we leave the house. We have a mobile phone charger that lives in the car, which is why I haven't listed one.

Does that all sound about right, anyone in the know?

Jojobil · 26/04/2010 11:58

Hi Girls

Less is better. ;) No need for size 2 nappies at all! Even large babies are fine with size one for the 1st week or two at least;) Also no need for wipes, they advise to clean newborns with just cotton wool and water to start of with. Definitely a nighty and large clothes to change into, snacks and fruits for later but surely DH can bring more of this things later? And a couple of change of clothes for litte one.

Chulita · 26/04/2010 12:15

I agree with jojo, less is better. I'm going to take about 6 babygrows and 6 vests in simply because the first night DD needed changing about 4 times cos she'd leaked so not taking any chances this time. I'll take 2 big t-shirts to double as nighties and a cheap-ass dressing gown. I should sit down and write my list actually, thanks for the reminder!
I spent most of the morning building duplo walls so DD could take them apart. Had my 28 week appt and all's good.
spirael you could put the car seat in the car when you first start getting BH if you don't use the back seats much. No harm in just having it sat there and you can't forget it!
Sorry for those who are bored, I'm cracking on with my baby blanket and then I'm going to crochet some animals for DD to play with so keeping busy with proper grandma things to do, lol!
Just had a tuna sandwich and it was delicious...time for round 2 I think

Hi ladies, it is hard to know what you need but try to focus on first couple of days as dh will be able to bring other stuff. With ds i didnt get to wear my own nighty during labour as when they broke my waters and soaked it. I was asked if i wanted mine on but said no cos the other one was a mess lol. I'm being sectioned so heres what i was thinking. Please add to it if i'm wrong.

2/3 large nighties
Light dressing gown
Large knickers bout 8 pairs as bleeding can be heavy
Slippers
Toiletries
Socks
Maternity/nursing bras 3
Breast and maternity pads
Birth plan (although dont know what i put in that yet)
Maternity notes
Towels for me and baby

Get dp to bring going home clothes on the day your going home, car chair base will be fitted by dp beforehand and he will bring chair up when leaving.

Baby stuff
Sleepsuits x 8 - as in hossie longer (not if i can help it, hate hospitals)
Vests x 8/10
Socks
Nappies, pack of- if need more dp can bring them
Scratch mits
Cotton balls

Also dp will bring babies going home clothes. I havent bought her a snow suit for coming due to how warm july is, but of course she'l have tights etc

Extras are ipod, snacks as could be waiting bout to get taken for op, mobile(for outside hospital) change for phone. Some magazines which could be got in hossie shop.

Think thats everything, i will be making lists for dp to ensure he knows what to do for ds while i'm in the hospital. A lot to do which is why i got started yesterday. Only bought my bag and toiletries, so have loads to do. You have to remember the lockers are small so hard to fit stuff into x

Thanks for the advice all. I'll drop the size 2 nappies then... I've just been warned that I'm likely to have a bigger than average LO so wasn't sure if the teeny nappies would be too small - like I was warned the newborn clothes could be!

I might pick up some plain white vests to supplement the clothing if LO is likely to go through it that fast. I was trying not to buy more than absolutely necessary to start with, since I don't know the right size and the gender isn't guarenteed!

The baby wipes I was partially going to use for me so I can clean up after snacking or wash down my face without having to venture to a sink, so I'll probably still take some along even if the hospital won't let me use them on LO.

Will add a few cotton balls though for washing LO! Will I need to take a bowl for water too..? LGI is currently a construction site, so I'll be surprised if they have anything in the way of provisions there. There's plastic sheeting all over the place, covering various walls and amenities, and a lot of bathrooms are marked as off limits. Which is why I'm erring on taking more provisions than I might need.

We use the back seat of our car pretty often for transporting friends, so I can't leave the car seat clipped in unfortunately. I guess I could see whether or not it fits into the boot and leave it in there for the last few weeks... Oh well, if worst comes to worst then DH will just have to pop home and grab it.

Incidentally, the labour bag and DH's bag are the only ones I'm intending to take into the hospital with me at the time, so it isn't quite as bad as it sounds. The overnight bag might make it to the boot of the car, or might just be sat at home for DH to bring in later if I end up having to stay for longer than a day. Means he doesn't have to think and just has to grab the bag, if it comes to it.

Of course, I'm still hoping all of this will be moot and I won't need to go to hospital at all. If I do end up there, it's likely to be because something has gone a bit wrong, so I want to make sure that everything is organised and to hand.

I'm impressed at anyone who trusts their DP/DH to bring in an appropriate outfit for coming home. I hate to think what my (likely sleep deprived and stressed out) DH would show up with if I asked him to grab me a change of clothes... Probably my ball gown or kimono or something! Upon his request I'm making a list of all the brands/logos/sizing of the various supplies, in case I send him to the shops for some more, as he's worried he won't be able to find the right thing.

I make it sound like we're both really paranoid, don't I? To be honest it's probably not that wrong of a perception...

kapars · 26/04/2010 14:46

Good idea to do lists. I did mine a while ago from a mumsnet forum on what to take and have pretty much got bought everything now.

I just got a delivery from Asda baby week and now have a cupboard full of nappies which makes me very happy. isn't it funny what makes us smile? If I told my non pregnant friends that a delivery of nappies from Asda made me happy they would think I was mad.
I wasn't sure what size to take to hospital so good advice on here for first timers.

On the mumsnet forum they advised taking your own pillow to hospital.

After waking up from horrible nightmare that I had done loads of drugs and harmed my baby (think that comes from watching Five Daughters last night with all the prostitutes on heroin) I did my natal hypnotherapy CD and now feel all happy and relaxed. I love that CD.

kapars · 26/04/2010 14:49

oh and i was told not to bother with slippers just flip flops and warm socks to labour in
and an evian water spray - essential apparently!

stac14 · 26/04/2010 16:09

spireal i will have all outfits set out so all dp has to do is bring it in lol

kapars i was advised on backless slippers for hossie so we dont have to bend up and down. Dont suppose it matters.

Asda and primark do cheap nighties and stuff so i'm just going to head there, dont see the point in buying expensive ones and i wont be breast feeding so dont need nursing ones. I may pick up extra baby grows. Just wondering if i have forgotten anything lol x

OP posts:
memphis83 · 26/04/2010 16:29

happy monday everyone, i got told a water spray is essential 2, i also got advised a soap free shower cream/gel like femfresh or e45 as soap stings like fury after the birth 'down there'!! ive packed all baby things apart from baby grows so far in his bag and i bought a jersey dressing gown for £6 from peacocks today (my dressing gown is so fluffy it would fill my boot!!) and also a large black nightie to hide any leaks i may not notice, i remember my aunties boobs leaking all down her top and the whole family didnt mention anything to spare her blushes, when she noticed she was even more mortified! i only managed to get one as they only had one the size of a tent in stock!! im keeping our seat in car from 36 weeks as i wont allow dh to leave hospital without me! hopefully i wont need a c section and i can be home as soon as im on my feet!
i havent bought any maternity pads yet do i just buy maternity pads or could i get mornal night time pads? maternity ones remind me of the ones the school gave you if you if you came on at school
also another silly question why witch hazel? i really dont have a clue do i?

Chulita · 26/04/2010 16:36

stac I got some monstrously huge knickers from sainsbury's that came right up over my stomach - they were hideous but I couldn't wear normal pants for ages.
I'm hoping to be in and out for this one, spent 3 days and 2 nights last time and couldn't wait to be out.
DH is quite good at knowing what I want too so I'm sure he'll turn up with what I want [hopeful emoticon]

stac14 · 26/04/2010 16:57

memphis know what you mean bout maternity pads they are horrid i have bought some bought may get some nighttime towels too.

Does anyone know if there are better versions of maternity pads? I may check online will let you know.

Are the big granny pants chulita? I'l need to get them. Did you have a section last time? X

OP posts:
Chulita · 26/04/2010 18:29

Yea, I had a section. I had bought some cheapies but they didn't come high enough. I couldn't have anything touching the wound/scar and knicker elastic was really painful. Proper granny pants but they did the job

memphis83 · 26/04/2010 19:56

stac i know mothercare do a slimline one but ive been told they are rubbish so please keep me posted! i was also looking at big knickers my dh called them passion killers, so im going to buy the biggest nastiest ones just to drill it home to him there will be no passion until i can 100% say i wont be able to get pregnant again i know 2 many people who have 2 kids born in the same year!!!

DesperateHousewife21 · 26/04/2010 20:36

Seriously can someone please tell me why I have a stupid irrational fear that something is going to happen to my baby, either before hes born or shortly afterwards.

I hear about babies sadly passing away at a few days old and keep thinking its a 'sign' that its going to happen to me.

Whats wrong with me
