Pregnancy brain....that last one meant for you Sapphire

JosephineClaire · 23/03/2010 15:10

I think I would prefer to wait until 16 weeks to tell them at work... especially if review time is coming up in April

Thankfully I only ever go into the office 4-5 days a month

I just have to work on my friends to keep it off Facebook after they find out at 12 weeks, until I tell my boss at 16 weeks. I knew I should have rejected my colleagues on FB - it's biting me now!

Has anyone else been for the Swine Flu jab? I had mine last week and am just starting to feel normal again

Jo x

Katey1010 · 23/03/2010 15:49

My boss is not super understanding of people's family and personal issues so I want to leave it as long as possible. It's tough because my old boss was great. She gave people time when they felt sick/tired and was really flexible. This new one, let's say flexibiity not her strong suit. I'm just saying that I have a doctor's appointment at the moment and not giving details.

BTW, I'm really glad that there are some 4-5 time Mums here. I was worried because the thread is "first baby" that it would be all us newbies who don't know what's "normal". Also, someone has to have some kids so that they can pay taxes when we're old and need support. You keep having babies if you want them!!!

stuffedmk · 23/03/2010 15:59

Had my appt with GP yesterday so am on the system
Seeing the midwife on the 6th April (will be 7 weeks) Doctor filled in the form for scan in front of me and it just made it all feel real!!

Downs
Feeling really bleurgh today...eating/not eating/drinking/not drinking, makes no difference but it is somehow reassuring

Ups
DH has started doing the cat litter

IssyStark · 23/03/2010 16:16

Kyuri Re first-timers going overdue, no it's not a myth. There have been several studies into the length of the average pregnancy and both gravida (no. of previous pregnancies) and ethnicity have a bearing on the length of a pregnancy. On average primagravida (first-time mums) go to 41 weeks rather than 40 weeks. I can dig up the journal paper references if you'd like - just let me know.

Babybean1 · 23/03/2010 16:50

Hi privet how did you get on at the doc's? Bet she told you not to worry and these things can happen or something like that?! All seems so easy to hear but not so easy to take on board!! Spoke to my friend about it earlier whose had 3 children and she said it really can come and go, and basically I will now worry forever! Oh good

Hope the doc was able to reassure you a bit!

I told my boss today (which was strange considering how I've been feeling) but figured if things do change he'll know about it then anyway!! He was fantastic and really excited for us so glad I did. I'm lucky where I work that they're really flexible and know he'll be great should I need time off etc so saves worrying about that one!

wow i am impressed that you are all remembering names and replying to all the posts on this thread, its so long i havent had the chance to read it all and i barely get the chance to read the posts since my last post, i guess thats life with four kids tho

i have noticed that i said my age was 32, when infact i am only 31, preg brain already and i am sooo tired. school run is over an hour twice a day, all the fresh air is good but i dont think it will be as nice once i have a big bump, hmmmmmmm

re large families, dp and i always wanted a large family, this will probably be our last baby, so i am determined to enjoy the pregnancy, but if we were to win the lottery, or get a large inheritence or something and could buy a bigger house then i would go for 6

i have told two close friends in rl, who are sworn to secrecy, dp and my sister, that will be it until after the first scan etc and i will prob wait till 16wks or so before saying anything, if this pregnancy is like my others i shouldnt get a bump till aroudnd 20wks.

hoping for a smaller baby this time tho, ds4 was 10lb 13oz i am only 5 2 and a size 10/12 luckily i have big hips

hope all is well with everyone?

someone mentioned slings there are some good second hand sling forums where you can get them and many sites sell returned ones at a reduced price, i am a sling junkie and have many, so can give advice if anyone wants it

Well the doc appt was a bit of a non event. She looked at me a bit oddly when I mentioned being paranoid and doing a few tests.. She didn't say it will all be fine as she can't know that I guess! She did say the line wouldn't necessarily keep getting darker though.

I have now booked a scan on Friday when I will be 6+5. So going to lay off the sticks and hope for the best!

Turns out round here you do not get a dating scan, just the nuchal which will be in about another 6 weeks. Can't help thinking I'll end up with another reassurance scan before then!

Glad your boss is supportive babybean and sorry to those who don't have that support. Mine is good, he has 3 young kids himself. I haven't told him yet, but I am already limited in what clothes I can wear so I don't think it'll be too long. I can't imagine anyone will be surprised, we had work drinks last week and I got a few raised eyebrows when I asked for a sparkly water!

Fenouille · 23/03/2010 18:35

Sapphire that exchange is hysterical. I have a feeling my announcements won't be half so amusing (or historical).

IssyStark they test everyone here for toxo as standard and the problem is that I'm not immure. If I was they'd be marginally less paranoid Everyone I know down here that has been tested has already had it. It seems to be pretty common unfortunately.

Sorry to all the experienced Mums for my part in the newbie takeover. I have to say that it's really reassuring to hear from you all, although I have no idea how you cope with so many children! Just the thought of one is enough for the moment.

OK, boring question time again. I'm struggling to get my recommended portions of wholewheat and grains. I have Weetabix or porridge for breakfast and whole wheat toast for dinner, but any suggestions on how to up my intake? I'm guessing the guilty Twix I ate mid-morning today doesn't count?

Fenouille · 23/03/2010 18:44

PD Hopefully the scar on Friday will put your mind at rest

Forgot to mention - all you non-toxo immure ladies, do you also get the joys of a monthly blood test, or is that one more "advantage" of being pregnant in France?

Fenouille · 23/03/2010 18:45

Of course that was meant to say scan...

Grr, it would be nice to have an edit function.

hmmSleep · 23/03/2010 19:46

Fenouille, sounds like you're eating really well, wouldn't worry too much about it really, I ate terribly for the first 3 months of all my pregnancies, including this one, to be honest it's just a case of what will stay down. Have 2 happy healthy children so doubt a slight dip in your wholegrain intake will matter!

Off on holiday for 9 days tomorrow, so hope any scans etc. anyone has whilst I'm away go well. Think I'll have a lot of catching up to do on my return. (Although I am taking laptop with me!)

hmmSleep thanks for the kind words - I'm sure it's ok but I know that my dh is much more disciplined about healthy eating than me and I don't want to let him down

LM haha that's the way I feel about our cats. As an only child I'm not sure we'll be going as for as you and 4madboys

Now, excuse me - as dh is away tonight on a business trip I've got to get back to House mmm Hugh Laurie

IssyStark · 23/03/2010 21:35

Fenouille Regular toxo testing, in fact any routine toxo testing, seems to be another French advantage, as you put it

IssyStark · 23/03/2010 21:40

I've not seen of OBEM after the first episode which the Spouse & I avidly watched as the PAH is my hospital where I had our son and where I've spent too much time for mc related stuff (no idea what we've been doing instead to miss it).

So it's sod's law that tonight when I see it is the neonatal intensive care, which was on the local news last week anyway as they've started another appeal (launched by Sarah Parrish as her daughter was treated and utimately died there). And here I am blubbing all the way through. Anyone else crying?

tiany · 23/03/2010 22:03

I am in the verge of tears all the time but not is a sad way... even why i start laughing i nearly end up in tears feckin loony!!!

Bit paranoid by lack of symptoms aswell but am going to EPU on saturday to get scan. After my mmc they said i could come in a bit early this time around for reassurance.

Does anyone get private healthcare for pregnancy in London? I prob wont but just wondering how it works here?

"in your loins" soooo funny... brilliant!

Cant wait to tell my mam... but lovely having little secret with DH for now

not going to tell work for until around 14-16wks i think... depending on how my belly expands!

Booboobedoo · 23/03/2010 22:20

Just come round after an exhausting weekend: DS's birthday party being the main event.

Not worried about lack of symptoms any more: I am an exhausted, vomiting mess.

Threelittleducks: your homelife sounds hellish. I feel for you - I really do.

I have nothing but admiration for you ladies who go through pregnancy more than once/twice. Children being born to parents who love them and will care for them properly: what's not to approve of?

Like Libra, I'd have liked more than two, but I very nearly didn't try for a second due to having such an horrendous time last time around.

Also, we have fertility issues, and getting pregnant is quite a complicated and drawn-out process.

This is my last time, for which I am profoundly grateful.

Also, I'm very grateful that I seem to have escaped hyperemesis this time around. You have something like a 66% chance of suffering again if you've had it once. Phew!

Feeling quite chipper all in all, and enjoying the thread.

Missed OBEM as went to see mum and StepFIL in their Am Dram production. It was excellent but did entail driving home back to Salisbury from Somerset at 11pm, on my own, in car with broken radio that could only pick up local FM every 20 mins. Then up this morning as usual for work. AAHHH

Just sat and ate a Bounty while catching up all the posts. Then read about how you're all eating super healthy. Oh bloomin ek!

Doc's yesterday morning. Very routine, didn't even take BP just tapped it all into the computer. Have MW Booking Appt on April 9th, looking forward to that one.

Pidgin · 24/03/2010 08:34

Morning all, and welcome to new people.

Babybean I've been worried about symptoms disappearing too but I think a bit of up-and-down is normal. My main symptom has been tiredness, and yesterday I felt much more lively, so immediately of course worried something was wrong... although it's probably down to the fact that I didn't leave the house all day

Fenouille, maybe if you haven't had toxo yet and you do have cats, then you have a high level of resistance to it? (Based on zero medical knowledge, obviously!) Also, if you are still looking for drink ideas then I can recommend rooibos tea. I don't drink coffee but love my tea and miss drinking it throughout the day - but rooibos is a bit more robust than most herbal teas and is caffeine-free.

Been a bit of a stressful week in the Pidgin household as I've been having more spotting, and on Monday morning it was reddish (rather than just brown). I have a scan booked for tomorrow so am counting down the hours until that, and trying to stay positive. I've had no pain, still have symptoms, and had a v-strong-and-quick-to-appear positive test this morning - but until I actually hear I heartbeat I can't help fearing the worst. Can't wait for the next 24 hours to be over!

Pidgin · 24/03/2010 08:35

funbun I'm not eating super-heathily if that makes you feel better - or rather, I'm eating all the right things, but on top of those I'm eating pretty much anything that crosses my path! And now I'm craving a Bounty...

Threelittleducks · 24/03/2010 09:01

Morning all

Hope everyone is well.

Have a meeting with an advisor at uni today to see if I can defer the 2nd year of my masters for a year. Kind of sad about it, but kind of happy that I won't have to juggle a newborn, a toddler and my specialisation. Bit sad as well about putting the ever-elusive career path on hold once again (was 6 months pregnant when I graduated last time), but so very excited about new baby prospect, that it's all ok. Means I can concentrate on getting a house sorted for us before I go back to complete course too
Talk about interrupted lives eh?

I was sat in a 2 hour lecture last night, totally starving and all I could think about was chips and cheese. How dirty is that

I had them too. [

Why can't I crave carrot sticks or celery?
