MarquiseDeMerteuil · 02/02/2010 14:19

So here's the continuation of the thread previously known as Due May 2010: Where we get a 'bloom' just in time for the christmas mayhem???
Let's see if this one lasts up until the first birth... Knowing how chatty we can be, I doubt it!

hello all!

MDM- i understand where you are coming from...seeing differnt doctors is a pain in the ass, as most of them cant be arsed to look at your previous records! hope any future appointments go better.

littleowl- in hospital bag for LO i have put:

3 vests
3 sleepsuits
1 coming home outfit
2 cardigans
a pack of nappies
cotton wool
2 hats
a blanket
and will probably think of more.

on the subject of clothes for LO's how many of each thing are you buying...i.e. sleepsuits as i really cant remember from last time around!

todya ive been swimming with Ds and have had pulling pains like something is about ot fall out all weekend, felt much better being in the water. to all those having emotional outbursts...my mu said i needed to sort furniture out and that was it i cried for about half an hour. however after that felt much better and have decided to sell my lovely table ( i have 2), as its purely there for show and would mean that i could lay the room out much better. will also now be purchasing a storage cabinet for my lounge and a linen cupboard as what i store it in a chest for drawers at the moment and things tend to accumulate on top of it!
plus am still looking fro a wardrobe and bookcase for DS's room, so that i can have the baby wardrobe for the baby! am now starting to get a bit panicky that this aby will arrive early and i wont be prepared. fingers crossed that she stays put until after my exam.[hopeful emotion]!!!

im still waiting for LOs dad to get down with the money for the pram so i can go and order that and the mattress, im going to give him till friday then call him and demand it...i think he amy be a little scared to see me as last time i saw him i wasnt showing, and then he amy realise what he has done, but then again i may just be overthinking it.

i hope all those with weird feelings in ears get rid of them soon.

take care

LuckyC · 22/02/2010 15:34

MDM I am outraged on your behalf! My 4 hours waiting for AA in a field filled with sheep poo was more productive than your docs app.

itshappened hope LO's dad starts to get moe organised. Horrible waiting when you just want to get things ticked off the list.

Once again, all those with toddlers/other DCs, I salute you. Am knackered, tearful and can't make a single decision at the moment, even about what soup to make for supper, and that's just me with my easy life!

sweetkitty · 22/02/2010 15:45

MDM - what a complete nightmare of a GP visit, I don't think I would have bitten my tongue as well as you did after the wait as well.

LuckyC - cars argh!!! Re pram advice, I believe there is not one perfect pram out there and it all depends on your lifestyle, if you are a hop in the car, hop round the shopping centre kind of person a lightweight stroller is your best bet, if you want something more sturdy a three wheeler with air tyres is better. Personally everyone I know who has bought a travel system has gone out later on and bought a car pram (myself included). If I were having my first baby now I would buy something like a M&P travel system in that you get the car seat and lie flat pram bit included but would also buy something lightweight for the car like a Maclaren XT, something like a Nipper 360 would be ideal once the baby is bigger and would cope with long walks. It is a complete minefield I know.

I am getting a P&T Vibe probably as I have a 22 month gap between DD3 and DS and then hopefully will sell it on once DD3 is about 2 1/2 maybe 3 and buy a Maclaren XT, I have one already but it has seen better days being over 5 years old now but it has been a great pram.

kateyjane - moan away sounds like you have every right too. Lack of sleep is a killer as well. These babies don't make our lives easy do they?

The thing about the 7 seater is I hate driving and only do it because I have to IYSWIM, they just seem so big. We are in the position of if we wanted to we could go buy one new but I wouldn't want to as 1) new cars lose so much money and 2) I would be terrified of bumping it oh and 3) my DC would wreck it, you should see the state of our other car and I don't want to be shouting at them not to eat and drink in the car or no muddy wellies. It's a family workhorse not a thing of beauty lol. An older car is much more sensible. For example DD1 walked along the car we have now and scrapped it all with the buckle of her jacket can you imagine that in a new car? The money we have is the result of an inheritence and we want to spend it wisely as it already feels wrong to have it at all IYSWIM.

My head is splitting just thinking about cars.

itshappenedagain - you seem quite organised, I won't think about a hospital bag until about 34 weeks or so! I think I will get about 9 newborn vests and sleepsuits to start off with plus a few wee outfits as I can't help myself

memorylapse · 22/02/2010 16:52

re moses baskets..we got this one from ebay..ots lovely. wicker so quite sturdy, orif=ginally from John Lewis..and we only paid £25 for it!

cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=330399031550&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT

Luckyc..travel systems...tbh I think its down to what suits you..there are so many out there..however I had a mamas and papas pliko with primo viaggio car seat for dd2 and loved it so have bought another pliko second hand (but will get the car seat new)...If you do a lot of walking..you might be better off with a phil and teds..Im not quite sure which car seat will go with it though..think the maxi cosi does..but Im sure I will stand corrected!
The quinny buzz seems quite sturdy..I have friends who have had them and they do a lot of walking..the maxi cosi car seat goes with it (if you get the adapters)

MDM..Im quite horrified at your GP appt and tbh would feel inclined to complain..imagine if you had taken on board her advice and started going running .

Pigley..congrats on the windfall..bet you are chuffed to bits!

Angel..how are you today?

Kateyjane...sorry to hear you are feeling so rotten..the combination of no sleep, OC etc will certainly not be helping...can you rest in the day?

Sweetpeasmum · 22/02/2010 16:59

Prams - we bought the M&P 03 Sport and car seat last time. We were in London at the time and right next to Wimbledon Common so the pram gave me so much freedom. It was fine on buses and tubes, most people will help with stairs, and I liked the fact it was big and robust as it meant that people couldn't easily ignore it! I agree with SK about the small, fold up, umbrella buggy - we got a Maclaren for our first plane trip and now keep it permanently in the car, very handy. Now we are in the country the pram gets even more use and is normally covered in mud. Another reason for having a car pram too!

Ears - I've got a MW appointment tomorrow and must ask about the ear thing. I have a problem clearing my ears after a shower and I thought that it may be a long running winter sniffle. I also want to ask about my circulation, I get cramps in my calves and have had chilblains this winter - what's that all about?

I'm sorry that some of you are suffering so much with pain and discomfort. I'm not too bad, apart from the cramps, but have just started sleeping badly. It might be to do with my means of dealing with the panic about the baby arriving, sticking my head in the sand, and my head being so full of stuff when I'm trying to sleep! Here's to better days (and numbing the pain with a nightcap!) x

mustbemadno3 · 22/02/2010 17:01

MDM What a waste of dr appointment if you waste there time they soon make you feel awful but when the shoes on the other foot.....need I say more.

lucky c we have brought the stokke xplory travel system. I'm really pleased with it just annoyed I got cream, sure it will be shit up within weeks! I chose it because 1 I like the style of it and I know this sounds ridiculous but I cant go in a lift so this converts to 2 back wheels so it will be easier on an esculator!!! Sure its not really made for that but that was a reason I chose it!!!

memorylapse · 22/02/2010 17:11

SK...I think how you are feeling is natural..you have 3 littlies and late pregnancy is exhausting..I could never cope with the idea of driving a big beast of a 7 seater so when we had dd2 we got a zafira..which was a nice compromise..bit like driving an estate car.

Littleowls and BRB..yay for single figures..Im 30 weeks tomorrow and cant beleive it. Bump gives me some very powerful wallops now..she must have football boots on!

anyone elses LO get loads of hiccups?? this baby seems to have far more than I remember the others having.

You all seem so organised with baby stuff..I barely have anything...there wont be a nursery for this LO as weve got 4 bedrooms and they are occupied..so LO will be in our room, but saying that the bedroom is massive so plenty of room to have a nursery corner.

Im a bit cross as got a letter from jy hospital on saturday saying that during my recent admission to hospital " a test was carried out and you may need treatment, please contact your gp 3 working days from the date of this letter"..considering I was discharged over a week ago I thought that was a bit crap as Id complained of UTI symptoms and have felt a bit pants this week..so phoned the hospital..to be told I had a UTI and to phone my GP on monday!..

DH was furious as my last baby was born prem(and sadly died) at 23 weeks due to a non treated UTI as I have deformed and damaged kidneys..cant beleive they waited a week to contact me and then to tell me to contact my GP..
So I phoned out of hours and when I told the triage nurse she was disgusted and actually asked me if I wanted to put a complaint in..but I dont feel up to it at the moment..anyway she arranged for me to have some antibiotics......you would have thought the hospital would have looked at my notes...Im rapidly going off that hospital tbh after the medical errors I saw whilst an in patient..I dont feel very confident having my baby there anymore

kateyjane · 22/02/2010 18:16

Oh Memory that's awful. Again all they needed to do was actually read your notes in order to get things right. I hope you are okay.

A couple of years ago I came out of teaching to train to be a paediatric nurse. However I left and went back to teaching after 18months. I couldn't stand the general laziness and lack of care and awful attitudes of some of the staff. I hated it and it really made me lose confidence in the NHS. Funnily enough the staff I really respected were mainly nearing retirement and 'old school' trained. They actually showed some care and pride in what they were doing. It was definately an eye opening experience.

I think we're going to go for an old Zafira Memory, glad you liked yours. They just seem a little bit more managable size wise for me!

sweetkitty · 22/02/2010 19:03

Thanks girls just me having a whinge, I remember this time from last time (and the time before) it's just wearing everytime you move it hurts and it's difficult. I get frustrated as I cannot do things I would normally do and as you can imagine life is pretty hectic with a 5, 4 and 1 yo.

The thing that put me off the Zafira is that theres about the same amount of space in the middle row of seats as the CMAX and we struggle to get 3 car seats across the back as it is so we would need the two boot seats up then there's no room for the pram! It's fastening the seat belts that is the problem. It's annoying as they seem very good cars for three DC or less.

ML - what a complete nightmare for you

littleowls · 22/02/2010 19:12

Evening everyone,

Back to work today, went on an outing and had a lovely day at the cathedral and the library.

sweetkitty - hope you too are feeling better. You will get used to the car. Hope your DD isn't too upset.

MDM - how infuriating about your appointment . I agree with you about those doing everything, totally full of admiration too!

itshappened - Thanks for the clothes list, I don't think I have enough stuff. I have just one set of clothes in my bag so far. Will have to buy some more. Hope you get the pram sorted soon.

ML - I have the same moses basket from john lewis but mine is natural wicker. Mine wasn't a bargain like yours! (£34 for just the basket - it should have been £68 though). It is very worrying when the hospitals/gps don't communicate properly or mess us around, they don't have care for patients at all.

Hope everyone else is battling on, whether it be with ear problems, cramp, pains and tearfulness! We are here for eachother x

Den26 · 22/02/2010 19:36

Hi All, just popping in to say hi.

Very for all of you having nightmares with healthcare staff, i work for NHS and lack of communication and general concern really irritates me.

Not much to report here really - enjoying soaking in all your words of wisdom! This being my first time i am completely clueless so all your comments re prams, hospital bags etc are very much appreciated!!

30ish · 22/02/2010 19:51

Pamelat i also feel like a rubbish mummy to DD - always tired and a bit of a grouch! Working full time is really taking its toll!

MarquiseDeMerteuil it's so annoying when they can't be bothered to read your notes! I had to go for a GTT test today. I couldn't understand why i needed it until I arrived and the nurse said that I didn't look as though I weighed 26 stones ! The MW at my booking appointment had written that I was 26 stones in my notes, instead of BMI 26! They decided to do the test anyway as I was there! I also had another scan as part of the GTT test - the baby looked really cute! Csection should take place on 11th May but this needs to be confirmed!

I'm also feeling very tired and a bit down - didn't feel like this the last time!

Does anybody elses DH's find pregnant women a big turn off? Mine does (he won't even entertain the idea and just sort of smirks if i make any type of suggestion). I think the lack of intimacy is also making me feel a bit down!

Oh well not long to go now - and then I shall be far too tired for any hanky panky!!!!

sweetkitty · 22/02/2010 20:04

30ish - my DP is the same as my bump gets bigger he goes off relations completely which doesn't bother me in one way, with the SPD the thought of it makes me ache but I am with you on the lack of intimacy thing, we still have a good cuddle in bed and back massages of course

Hobnobfanatic · 22/02/2010 20:10

MDM - that would have infuriated me! I am a serious grouch at the moment; I complain about ANYTHING! Your experience would have had me hopping about, ranting like a loon!

Cars - I currently live alone, with my 6yo and our dog. I spent a few days over half-term, visiting friends and family and we only just all fitted - one car seat, dog bed and dog, luggage and baby bits that I collected from friends - in a seven-seater Zafira. Babies never travel light - so DD1 and I are going to have to seriously cut back on our packing in future. And this is without considering DP when he comes with us! How anyone would fit shopping and three kids into a Zafira - bit of a squeeze!

Ears - I wonder if it's related to pregnancy congestion? I've been bunged up for months now - a common sign, apparently. Ears are all linked, I guess.

Had a mad SUnday, shifting bedrooms around and moving my office into the big bedroom to make room for the baby. DP did most of the lugging for me, but I definitely overdid it - and could barely stand this morning. Only half-way through - the rest will have to be sorted next weekend. Threw away binbags of stuff - and have a bootful of stuff for the charity shops. I'm such a hoarder, but really don't have room for sentiment any more - I so want this baby to have a little room for all her clothes and stuff...

Saw the mw today - 29 weeks. I asked her about episiotomies or tears - and which is better (trying to sort out my birth plan!) . She said it's now very rare for them to cut you - only do it for forceps or ventouse and only the if it looks like you'll tear. She's also sending out letters for the antenatal classes - she tells me a lot has changed in the six years since I last gave birth !

Early night for me - to make up for yesterday. Hope everyone is okay - I completely empathise with the hormonal outbursts!

Hobnobfanatic · 22/02/2010 20:16

30ish - Not sure if my DP is a little off the idea; certainly he hasn't made many moves since the bump has grown to extortionate proportions - but he's more than agreeable if I make a move . I've got to make the most of it now - as I know I'll be scared stiff (excuse pun!) after the birth. Took me months and months to have the courage post-birth last time - I bled for yonks and just felt terrified that it would hurt like hell after the stitches and general trauma...

But, as a friend says, it's always easier to blow up a balloon the second time round, so hopefully it'll be a breeze this time

It's really common for men to fret about pg sex - that they'll hurt the baby etc. Maybe put an NHS leaflet under his nose that addresses these issues - I think there's one just for men, isn't there?

pigleychez · 22/02/2010 20:55

MDM- What a nightmare! I waited an hour once for one of my MW appointments. I had DD with me who was getting bored, tired and hungry- Not good!
Just proves they dont read notes properly! Good job you didnt listen to her and start jogging home!

Happened again- Hope you get the money from LO's dad soon.

Re -prams. I have a travel system with a carrycot that dd was in as a tiny baby. Rearfacing/forward facing seat 3 wheeler. We have still been using it with DD (18mths) but have said recently if we werent having another I would be getting a lightweight stroller for the trips into town as she is starting to outgrow the seat unit.
No point now though as I want the carrycot bit again for this baby.

Memory- Yeah ive been starting to feel Hiccups now. DD had them loads and loads and I think this one is going to be the same.
dont blame your dh for being cross at the hospital.

Pamlet- I too feel like that sometimes with DD. Feel guilty that I have a short fuse lately and not so active

30ish- DH and I havent been that intimate since conceiving this one! Usually too tired for any of that anyway! We make up for it with plenty of cuddles and back rubs

Hobnob- I found myself doing too much when sorting the nursery. You dont realise at the time do you, just feel it later!

Those of you suffering with Heartburn... What does it feel like? I keep getting this sicky, acidy taste in my throat, Its horrible! Never had this with DD.

rachelfruitloop · 22/02/2010 21:09

The thread is getting away from me again already, so many comments I've wanted to make! Figure I'd better post now before I forget everything!

MDM for you about the appointment you had today! How annoying! I would be so outraged!

Memory also for you, what an absolutely horrific prospect of a risk like that again! Hope the antibiotics clear up the UTI quickly.

BRB I've had my DH check our things in the loft after hearing what's happened to your baby things due to the leak! But good that you're looking on the bright side about the fun part of shopping!

SK I don't drive here in the UK but when I lived in L.A. I had to drive, and I remember driving my parents' minivan and feeling completely like I was driving a boat! And that wasn't with any kids in the car! Very daunting! But I did get used to it eventually, so hopefully it won't take you long to get used to a bigger car. I'm thinking of getting a UK driving license after this baby is born, 2 LO on public transport and all the gear could get a bit tricky, I predict!

30ish I have the reverse scenario here, DH seems even more interested and I've completely gone off the idea. Doesn't help that he's been completely pissing me off with his snoring the last few nights and I've been the one to go sleep on the sofa!

Angel and Forces I hope things are going ok for you both.

Well done to all who are getting organised and doing up nurseries! Love the pics Pigley and would love to see your DD's room Heffa!

Thanks to everyone for compliments, and reassurance about the stupid things people can say about bump sizes, etc. I am also feeling very very sensitive/tearful lately. Also feeling like the worst mummy in the world to DS, like some of you have said, my patience is not what it usually is.

Feeling ill tonight, can't tell if it's just usual heartburn and this damn ulcer under my tongue! Probably caused by all the chocolate I've been scoffing over the weekend! Figure I'd better get my fill before the GTT on Wed. Good luck with yours, too Pigley

Right, off to bed!

mustbemadno3 · 22/02/2010 21:23

memory - how sad for you and frustrating, I would certainley put a complaint in. I just have complained myself nothing to do with pregnancy but to do with my son (he practically lives down that bloody hospital!) But while his consultant was swanning around the country on holiday for almost 2 months, their was nobody else to see him so put him to back of the queue for 6 months time, we had already waited 3 months! Anyway complained one day ...seen the next, he said if the parents didnt complain to management then he would be just seen as moaning about staffing levels and nothing would be done.

30ish - If I make a move dh will participate but hes not very forthcoming. I just make him do it!!! lol!

However, not tonight thanks Ive only just sat down (9.15p.m) dh had sickness and diahorea all night and day. Ive been up since 6 sorted kids out been work done everything whilst poor dh still in bed throwing up. Bloody mil just rang as I sat down with cuppa, almost in tears her ds is ill asking what I had been feeding him?? Then proceeded to tell me what to feed him and should she come round??...er hello its a bug ffs!

memorylapse · 22/02/2010 21:41

with regards to ears...I moderate on a forum for people with balance problems...ear problems are quite common when pregnant...the hormones cause congestion in your eustachian tubes which can make you feel off balance and your ears feel weird...also its not uncommon to get labyrinthitis when pregnant....I had labs whilst pregnant with dd2 and never fully recovered(rare)..but as a result..I have flare ups..and just lately Ive been feeling really dizzy on and off

Sweetpeasmum · 22/02/2010 21:45

hobnob - my DH was less keen during the final 4 or 5 weeks last time. I don't think he was worried about hurting the baby, I think he felt a little disturbed about how intimate he may have been getting with his unborn child! Despite being an engineer he's still prone to irrational thought.

As for feeling down and emotional, I find that I get grumpier as the week goes on and am soooo happy to make it through Friday. My job is far more demanding this time round so I've really seen myself off by having a toddler and being pregnant as well. The guys I work with think I'm nuts. Maybe I am

MarquiseDeMerteuil · 22/02/2010 22:29

Thanks for all the comments about my irritating GP appointment - I was starting to wonder if I was overreacting, but it's good to know others would have found it annoying too. Although Memory - your experience over the weekend actually sounds much more infuriating. To delay a diagnosis like that sounds completely disgraceful to me. 30ish - can't believe the mistake on your notes! Although it did mean you got to see your LO again .

Hobnob - also aching a bit after shifting some furniture around at the weekend. I didn't do any lifting - mainly supervised DH and his cousin , but did deconstruct and re-build a bed.

Littleowl - I haven't started packing a hospital bag yet, but have made a list! (Am becoming increasingly obsessed with lists!)

LuckyC at thought of you waiting in a field full of sheep poo!

ML thanks for your explanation! I had assumed it was probably to do with the increased blood, in the same way that they say that can cause blocked nose etc. too.

SK I can sympathise if you're feeling slightly anxious about getting a bigger car. We switched from a Honda Civic to a VW Passat coupe a few months ago, and it took me a while to get used to the increase in size. I still try and park in spaces that are far too small!

Mustbemad - can't believe your MIL! Hope you got a nice undisturbed cup of tea after you got her off the phone, and that everyone's feeling better tomorrow.

First NCT class tomorrow, quite excited for some reason!

OP posts:
brightredballoon · 22/02/2010 22:49

Just off to bed ran out of time to reply sorry.

SK thats what put us off the Zafira as well, the fact we would always be using the back two seats and then no room for the pram etc. The Mazda 5 is the same. We are looking at the Citroen C4 (maybe Grand as the two extra seats would be so handy), the Smax and the Peugot 5008. However, they all seem so expensive so I'm not sure what we are going to do.

I am in a ruthless decluttering mood - I have about 20 bags out for council collection tomorrow, I hope they take it else I'll have to lug it back into the garage!

TwentiethCenturyHeffa · 23/02/2010 08:14

MDM - what a terrible GP appointment! Could you contact the practice manager maybe? I'd be fuming.

ML - at your hospital, that's awful.

SK - hope you're feeling a bit better. I reckon this is one of the worst stages since you feel pretty heavily pregnant but you're not really into the final stretch yet so still have ages to go.

Lots of sympathy for anyone not sleeping, it's awful when you know you need more and just can't get it.

Now DD's in her new bedroom, I can get stuff down from the attic and prepare the nursery for a baby again, yay! First night in her new bed was interesting. She was fine but the cat seemed determined to screw it up - made a huge noise twice as I was just putting DD down to sleep, waking her up and getting her excited ('cat, mummy, cat! meow!'). Then once she was asleep it sneaked into her bedroom, got up on the windowsill and somehow stretched up high and set the window alarm off . Luckily (and amazingly) it didn't wake DD up but we were not impressed. We were just talking about child safety when we heard it as well so gave us quite a shock. Oh well, can only get better tonight. At least she likes it and slept well in it eventually.

LuckyC · 23/02/2010 12:07

Thanks for pram advice all - really useful.

Have flu and am on bloody antibiotics for root canal. HAVE to be better by Saturday as we're going to Bruges.

Hobnobfanatic · 23/02/2010 12:52

Poor you LuckyC - flu AND root canal! Yuck. Both horrid singly at the best of times, but quadruply worst when together and pregnant. I'm sure you'll be better by Bruges - better to get it all out of your system now, rather than when there.

Good luck!
