Come in, come in to the new haven for diffed BESHies. I think a group effort is needed here (and I'm being a lazy preggo), so please add to the deli whatever you crave/love/can stomach.

Nominations are also open for sexy fathers we can hijack to serve our mouldy cheese and cured ham

And the best mocktail recipe wins...well, bugger all to be honest

Evening pregnant people and pass the fake gin.

Went to see my GP this evening to tell her Im pregnant. She was ace and recommended which local hospital to consider and gave me my due date: 25 September.

As I was a bit unsure of dates she had to insert a finger in a very rude place and examine me, which was a bit unexpected but guess I'd better get used to being fumbed with!

Also: free prescriptions and dental care for the duration - how cool is that?! God bless the NHS.

CurlyCasper · 25/01/2010 21:09

Hi skater. I've never heard of the finger trick to suss out dates. Wonder how that works?
Great that you've got a helpful GP - can make a huge difference!

I'm going to love the free NHS stuff. I've been paying £100 a year since I was 19 for prescription pre payment certificates (would be about £40 a month if I paid for my meds individually). But now I get free drugs and I'm not even taking any! Bloody frustrating. Well, I'll try and get my money's worth in the year after the kid is born

cunty you can fuck right off with that. This is no time to start messing with such foolish behaviour. Mine can have a trim and little else. Two sonographers have already had to dabble with my pubes. what's done is done.

Ponymum · 25/01/2010 21:41

Right... just catching up.

VAG Last pregnancy I moved house when 8.5 months pg and in a wheelchair. It can be done. And I hate wearing bras (even in the day time) so no way you are going to get me wearing one at night. My breasts are now very heavy but I have taken to sleeping on my back so it's not so bad.

cunty No, just no. 3 minutes? You clearly are not acquainted with my lady garden forest. Though I have to admit it looked so shocking a week ago I did get some scissors involved.

cosmo Small world. I am in that town often. I am having my baby at the hospital there!

Horsey girls - For my next horse I have decided to send iggy to Ireland to buy me a cob. I nearly bought a Cleveland Bay last time, but it failed the vet check. So instead bought the TB x Dales. Part of me was thinking, sure, it's a TB, but it's crossed with a sweet adorable little Dales pony, what could possibly go wrong? Completely forgetting that Dales ponies are actually evil headstrong demons with jaws of steel.

skater Say what? She stuck her what where? Now I've heard everything. Glad I had my dates written down.

CUNextTuesday · 25/01/2010 22:11

Pone Pone now you see that's where you are going wrong my friend. If you keep it maintained it only takes 3 minutes with a razor and a pair of nail scissors. Let it grow wild and not only do you have to remove badgers, field mice, etc. but you have to deal with it using a petrol mower and a pair of industrial shears. You only have yourself to blame

Now if you are talking about legs, I have no comment to make. Objects have been lost and not found in amongst that little lot...

Ponymum · 25/01/2010 22:46

cunty But you see, I hate using a razor there as it goes stubbly, so I usually wax the sides and trim the middle. But once the waxing has been left a while... you get the picture. But never mind, MrP clearly sees himself as a bit of a jungle explorer type.

cheggs I have checked out your furniture. It looks very nice - much more solid than most other stuff. The paint finish is sort of creamy with slight variations - like the paint is slightly waxy or something, i.e. not like a solid factory sprayed colour. (I'm not describing this very well, it looks nice - very subtle). The one in the shop was definitely showing some marks on the surface though, but the assistant said it had been on display for two years and "of course this doesn't get looked after like you would in your own home" (she clearly doesn't know my cleaning habits).

It is solid wood right down to the floor. That would annoy me. It had some shoe marks on that part where people had obv kicked it. Also, it means you can't put anything under it, which once you convert it to a bed could be frustrating as that is an obvious place to put a toy box. The solidness of it makes it very heavy and may be an issue if you want to prop up the head of the cot to help with breathing problems at night (I think most parents try this at some stage).

It has four height positions for the mattress base, but the side of the cot does not come down at all. So if you have the base down low that's a long way to bend over - a consideration if you ever get a bad back.

Also, you can't fit teething rails on it because of the shape of the wood, but that is probably not very important.

Hope that helps. Let me know if you have any other questions. It was fun. I bought a little rag doll for the foal while I was there. (My attempt to teach her to be caring and nurturing before the little babee arrives.)

CurlyCasper · 26/01/2010 09:07

Advice wanted please! All ideas and suggestions welcome.

I'm starting to worry about the back/hip/pelvic pain I am experiencing. Lower back hurts all the time. Right hip achey. These could be down to the arthritis (which I am currently trying to get help for)
But I also have shooting pain through my vag, if that makes any sense, and a ring of non-joint type pain around my lower back, over top of hips and across my emerging bump. for the past two days pain has been concentrated on the lower right hand side of belly.

Are other people experiencing this? Or should I be thinking SPD/PGP? (starting to fear losing all our savings if forced to start maternity leave early!)

I see my community midwife on Feb 12 - should I wait that long before seeking help?

Sorry to whinge. I'm just in a bit of a mess today, and work keeps piling up and stressing me out (so I come here!)

iggypiggy · 26/01/2010 09:22

pone I'd be happy to nip over to the emerald isle on a horse mission

I has put a pic on my profile page for your viewing pleasure cos i don't think you seen my hairy beast before

cassie I have heard other diffed people talk of the shooting pain/ Vag thing... so poss that is just normal symptom? Can you poss ring your midwife for a chat before your appt?

skihorse · 26/01/2010 09:39

Curly I wouldn't wait that long in your position - can you give them a call today? Or even through to the consultant - I mean presumably this is why they want you under the consultant - because you may require more care and attention than us less exotic differs. Do it - I can't bear the thought of you being in pain like this. I think ponymum can tell you how debilitating and awful SPD is and if there's any way you can prevent this then it needs to be adressed asap - it might be something as easy to fix as "ergonomic" office furniture? I get pain when I sneeze but I'd definitely be whining if I were feeling like you.

cunty Please to inspect my "raging snipe"?

iggy Where would we be without our hossies? I've good news on that front too - the girl rode in the sand school on sunday and apparently all went well - well I'm not sure she was challenging Anky but at least she didn't get bucked off despite the cow shed at the end of the school! She's also just texted to say she's going on a hack this afternoon with YO which is very good - if hoss starts bucking and plungeing she'll get good advice, not panicking!

carrots wherefore art thou?

Bessie123 · 26/01/2010 10:15

Skater we are due nearly the same time, my EDD is 29 September.

Caspar - I had really bad SPD at around 14/15 weeks last time, it was very painful in my hips, lower back and sides of belly. BUT It didn't last all that long (maybe 6-8 weeks) and I found pilates really, really helped (as did one of those electric heaty cushion things, I can really recommend them). Also make sure you don't have to carry heavy things around with you, like laptops etc.

Ponymum · 26/01/2010 10:45

casper Oh, dear, I am a little worried about you. Yes, that does sound all too familiar. As you say, it might not be as you have other factors involved, but in your position I would get some expert help asap.

You need to see a specialist obstetric physio and it can take weeks to get an appt so don't wait. The set up varies from place to place and I can't remember what your arrangements are. I would first try to call direct to the antenatal reception and explain that you have been advised to see an obs physio asap. Be really assertive and emphasise your other issues. They'll either get you an appt or tell you who you need to talk to. If no luck try consultant, GP, phoning midwife, etc. (Don't be surprised if lots of people have very little idea what you are talking about - keep trying until you find the right person.)

In the mean time have a look at:
Pelvic partnership website
Also there is a Mumsnet thread called the SPD Sofa where someone will always answer questions - look under pregnancy.

Do you know Pilates at all? It has been the biggest help for me in training my body to be correctly aligned in everyday situations. Pelvic floor exercises combined with lateral breathing will strengthen the abdominal band of muscles which will stabilise the pelvis. Think about keeping even weight bearing on your pelvis in everything you do, e.g. don't get out of the car with one leg first - swing both legs on to the ground and stand up with even weight on your legs, etc.

I really, really hope it turns out not to be SPD/PGP.

CurlyCasper · 26/01/2010 10:58

Thanks PESHes. I feel a bit of a fool having sat with a midwife at my booking in on Saturday and said nothing, and now feeling like poo. I keep brushing it aside when I feel ok, then panicking when I feel bad. Will start with a call to the MW I've yet to meet. (also hoping for a call back from rheumatology. If PGP is caused by messed up joints, as it say on the page bess linked to, this could be PGP caused by the arthritis)

I used to do some pilates but they cancelled my class. Could brush up on the principles. Have signed up for pre-natal yoga course starting in Feb.

What a nonsense. I WANT TO BLOOM!!!!!

Going in search of cake now...

OP posts:
CUNextTuesday · 26/01/2010 11:11

FWIW I have shooting pains through those areas every day and the mw told me they were growing pains - ligaments etc stretching out. Not uncommon at all at our stage of the game. I also have hip and shoulder pain first things from lying on my side - it's where the increased weight is creating pressure on the points of contact. I've had shooting pains down my bottom too, almost like i imagine sciatica to be, but that comes and goes and I think it's just one of those things that result from everything shifting about.

Don't despair, it could all be completely normal...

CUNextTuesday · 26/01/2010 11:13

Does that sound like I'm properly in the wars? I'm not, and besides I've played hockey all my life so have developed a high tolerance for aches and pains

CurlyCasper · 26/01/2010 11:21

Cheers cunty, Glad to know I'm not alone and here's hoping it's all "normal"

I think my problem is that I have such a high tolerance for pain. I'm been in some sort of pain, somewhere in my body every day since I was 16, so I'm used to it. As a result, when it gets beyond my usual tolerance, I feel the need to investigate and take action. (past few nights it's been pretty much tears before bedtime as things reach a peak). I know my finger joints are going through some serious damage at the mo, so if I can protect my pelvis in any way I will.

Anyhoo, MW has been phone, I'm awaiting a call back, and if she tells me not to worry then so be it.

OP posts:
CurlyCasper · 26/01/2010 11:25

oh, and while I'm in a moany mood, can I just say fuckbollockswantcunttwatpissballs to the stretch marks on my left tit (obvious) and belly (pale for now). I have been creaming up and this is my thanks at 15 weeks?!?

OP posts:
iggypiggy · 26/01/2010 11:36

cass lets hope is all normal and MW is reassuring. Sounds like a big pile of shit tho.

Bollocks to the stretch marks tho... I haven't any new ones yet - but i am covered in strech marks anyway from my vast tits growing as a teen... sexy.

Ponymum · 26/01/2010 11:41

"High tolerance for pain" Yes, I know all about that one. When my consultant was discussing birth options she was practically rubbing her hands together with the possibilities of forceps delivery. She said (and I quote) "because we know from last time that you have a high tolerance for pain." Oh great.

iggy Love your hairy beast! Especially like that you have gone for the "not too much white" option. I think I can trust you to select my next one. When I told Ski I was looking for a 15.1 hh bay cob gelding with no hang ups who can be a pleasant hack and happily pop around a little hunter trials course without making fuss, she said her 17.2 ginger mare warmblood ridden in a pelham sounded perfect for me. Menkul.

iggypiggy · 26/01/2010 11:45

pone my beast would fit your decription - except for the bay bit... and he's 15.3.. Too much white = too much cleaning/ less attractive He's also not too wide - which is pleasing for the hips (mine don't like wide horses for some reason)

skihorse · 26/01/2010 12:09

Pff... my orange princess is at least narrow which saves on hip aches! I'm really not quite sure why I suggested her to you ponymum - I must've been having a moment of madness. Bah, I'd much rather be off out for a hack today than here.

Curly I hope you get some news very soon, there's suffering and then there's suffering. I went along with my nausea/sickness being "normal" until quite frankly enough was enough. I am still suffering which is not really normal, not any more. We're all going to fall at different hurdles. e.g., cunty and her stabby fanjo, iggy and her torpedo like chest bursting free and killing tourists in the South Bank, vag's flailing arms of denial giving her tennis elbow.

iggypiggy · 26/01/2010 12:11

I has just signed up for pregnancy yoga... sounds thrilling doesn't it...

ski good news about your teen by the way!

Are you still feeling sick ski?

skihorse · 26/01/2010 12:16

iggy I'm 50% for yoga in that a class finishes lying down - and last time I took a yoga class I got diffed... not during the class obv. I'm 50% against yoga because they're always led by a ponce.

I am still sick yes... threw up sunday morning and sunday evening and ended the day in tears on the sofa. Very nauseous last night too but am trying to resist taking the medicine as much as is possible. I'm not sure whether I said or not yesterday, but the midwife gave me a bit of a telling off about taking medicine... I think it's all well and good but being sick was driving me mental - sea-sickness leads to suicide after all, but that aside I work full-time and have a life... I don't have the luxury of just being able to lie on the sofa until July. Life must go on.

givecarrotsachance · 26/01/2010 12:19

I'm here... just busy at work after doing very little yesterday thanks to crappy shoulders = typing V tough.

cas um, I get some of those pains too so MAY be ok BUT ignore that entirely as if it's not, it needs dealing with. If you give the MW a chance to think you think it may be normal, she may cop out - so go with an "I've got this stuff wrong - what's going on" attitude so she's not assuming it's just normal stuff. Which it may be. Christ I'm coherent today. Sorry about the stretch marks. I thought I'd got away with it with LC until he was born and I found a load of the bastards hidden under my bump .

cunty enough about the hairs. I've done mine. You happy now? Jeesh, you sure know how to make a girl feel guilty

skater I'm guessing she was feeling the size of your baby sling. Not sure an "accurate" date could come from that (maybe within a couple of weeks) but then my scan dates have been 2 friggin weeks apart and neither actually correct to my dates so who knows.

casper on another thought... do you have a tame/friendly doctor who would give you a bunch of scripts to cash in right now and over the next few months so you get ahead? Worth asking...

ponypeople mum got her last horse from Ireland but t'was a scary story (IRA) when she went over which I can't write here, but pony is adorable (and Very Very good).

CurlyCasper · 26/01/2010 12:38

sorry your still sick ski. I thought your drugs had done the trick. It's really crap that it should start so late. Are you managing to eat ok?

Thanks again for the advice. In my googling efforts, I have now become familiar with the word "ischium" with ref to my genuine pain in the butt

have decided I want to be a pony girl. Just a little ginger Shetland maniac will do. For shits and giggles, you see. we'd both be barking mad, so get on just fine.
