I too am eating like a student - the shame of it!

WickedWitchSouthWest · 09/12/2009 18:06

thanks tish I'm 11 weeks today - scan was done at 10+5. How are you getting on?

Emster30 · 09/12/2009 18:35

Wow, cute baby WWSW!

I have my booking-in appointment tomorrow, looking forward to it! And my scan is 3 weeks today - not too long to wait, I guess.

berberis · 09/12/2009 19:25

Hello everyone, it's been ages (too much work and social things, and when am not doing that am sleeping!)

Congrats to those who have had scans and congrats to all the newbies. Sending positive thoughts to you Gracie, it does sound like you grow them slowly

My scan is a week today (when I'll be 11 weeks) - anyone else on the 16th and want to hold hands? Am starting to get nervous about it already. Wicked your scan pic is amazing, such a clear image!

ski I wish I lived in the Netherlands - cannot imagine home help being sent round on the NHS.

My nausea is not as bad as it was, but the tiredness is still overwhelming. Even going to bed early and stealing an hour when I get home doesn't help. It is making me very grumpy at work. My boss asked me if there was anything wrong the other day as I was so grumpy (am not telling him until 12 weeks) and I said no, but am sure he probably thinks am about to resign or something! Wish I could tell him now. Though he's not the type to give leeway for people who are sick/tired - always boasts about how he's never had a day off sick in his working life, typical alpha male! - so if I did tell him it wouldn't get me any sympathy.

Right, am lying in bed typing this and putting off cooking supper for DP (two lamb chops waiting to be cooked downstairs, am going to have to do it with peg on nose and blindfold on!) and writing an assignment for deadline tomorrow so must go.

stac14 · 09/12/2009 19:32

Congrats on all the fab scans. I got mine and I am 8+4 so due on 17th July which I am quite happy about, but hoping it comes on 16th as that my mums bday and she passed away before ds was born so that would make it really special (sorry being all gushy hormones all over the place lol)

WWSW the baby looks so cute can't wait till my pics are that clear.

tsc we have close edd, are you getting another scan at 12 weeks? I have to go back on 6th January, nothing wrong they just want to do all the checks, said I have been lucky to get as many scans lol have you uploaded your pic?

Hows the MS today? I am considering buying the wristband for travel sickness, has anyone tried it? x

TishTosh21 · 09/12/2009 21:26

Aw shucks, thanks all IMVHO I do produce beautiful children tee hee

welcome & congrats viks! Hope you get another scan before christmas....I can't believe that I don't get another now til mid February (20 wks)!

berberis poor you working for Mr Alpha. Rubbish. I had a lovely friend at work who once told me that if I needed time off then to take it regardless of what anyone else thought. Her exact (ish) words were "do you think there will be a sign on the office wall saying "wicked sacrificed her baby for the project"?". She was right.

tish I'm dead tired too - at the wrong time of day though - first thing in the morning, mid afternoon and about 7pm when I should be cooking dinner! It's bloody half 11 now but I'm not tired enough to sleep! argh!

violetbubbles · 10/12/2009 07:24

Great photo Wicked - you're growing a cute one there!

Had my first Xmas lunch of the season yesterday. Was dreading it but it was actually okay. Kept my choices pretty bland and sipped on lemonade.

I'm feeling a bit better this morning and as I have a class to teach first thing, this is a good thing!

A big warm welcome to viksam and any other newbies I might have missed over the last few days.

Mouseybrown · 10/12/2009 09:53

Morning!

My arn't there a lot of us now!

Just checking in to say I'm still here, been lurking but little to report to be honest.

Had bloods taken last Thursday, but don't get results until next Thursday 17th, which is also scan day. Have appointment with psychcologist the monday after that to administer kick up the arse and help me feel a bit more positive about things.

Hope you're all feeling fine and fluffy

givecarrotsachance · 10/12/2009 10:22

I'm using the travel bands. Don't know how much difference it's making, but since starting with those, homeopathy and vit B6 I'm feeling less nauseous. Still very tired, but then none of these things say they'll help with that, and I'm only about 7 weeks.

CurlyCasper · 10/12/2009 10:31

Help - can anyone tell me which of the two swine flu jabs is supposed to be safer for us? Gp practice just phoned to offer me, and I've asked her to find out which one I'm being offered before making a decision. She's phoning back soon. Any ideas? Think I'll have it, but would rather have the one deemed "safer" thanks

givecarrotsachance · 10/12/2009 10:45

One I think is mercury-free, but is a multiple-injection (2 or 3) with some time in between. The concern is that you're not covered until after the second jab, so they're not really using this.

The other has mercury in it in levels deemed to be safe, but is one shot only, and this is the one they're using here I think.

But this is my understanding - I could be wrong.

CurlyCasper · 10/12/2009 10:47

They called back. It's Pandemrix - the single shot mercury one. Is this the one you'll be having rots? And are you waiting till you are past the first trimester?

Not sure whether to rush in or wait till new year...

iggypiggy · 10/12/2009 11:13

My consultant told me not to have jab until second trimester - he said wait till new year - then see what SF is doing, but his advice was def to have it, but not until after 15 weeks.

CurlyCasper · 10/12/2009 11:16

Thanks iggy I've been reading around since I last posted and that's what I was starting to wonder about. I'll wait and speak to consultant when I see him on Jan 7. Going to be with Shedloads of snotty children this weekend and it wouldn't make the damndest bit of difference even if I had the jab today. After that, I'm not expecting to see too many people I can catch it from! (Until return to work in New Year).

I think the phone call just took me by surprise, 'Spesh as I was at the surgery yesterday!

Wonderstuff · 10/12/2009 12:00

Hi all - I am feeling so much better today, wasn't feeling too bad yesterday either, still feeling peculiar enough to not be too worried, but haven't been sick since yesterday morning and actually have a appitite today have had toast and three crackers with cheese - I can't tell you how amazing it feels to be able to eat something. If this continues I'll go back to work on Monday have been so bored and missing it. Not sure if it is the phenegan or rest or what but am over the moon at the moment. 9 days till my scan, god I hope after all this it is all okay. Off to have a bath and make my self feel human.

givecarrotsachance · 10/12/2009 13:04

Good news, wonder. cassie - yes, I think it's that one that my surgery is doing. I'm not worried about the mercury as my research indicates it's safe. And I'm waiting until the second trimester.

WickedWitchSouthWest · 10/12/2009 13:16

oh i'm so confused with the SF jab. I'm going to speak to the mw tmrw morning at my booking in appt and see what the general advice is here. I'm going to wait until after 12 wks anyway but I'm just not keen on the mercury...

Oh dd's nativity was very cute! My little show-off got stage fright and just stood there terrified - she warmed up for the second to last song and managed to sing

wonder I'm also feeling better now - eating like a horse! I felt better at 11 wks with dd too. Problem is I now have sciatica must remember to sleep with a pillow between my knees!

givecarrotsachance · 10/12/2009 14:06

wicked although the mercury sounds bad - and mercury's not good stuff of course, it's such a tiny, miniscule amount that it's really quite safe.

Obviously, no amount of mercury is ever good, but we subject our children/unborn babies to all sorts of pollutants that we accept - car pollution, cigarette smoke, alcohol, chemicals in non-organic food, radiation in aeroplanes, etc.

The risk to me, and therefore to my baby (and family if I die!) of the side effects of swine flu on pregnant women seems much higher than the risk of a widly-used vaccine using tried, tested and safety-proven elements.

I went through the vaccine thing in enormous detail with the MMR scare/propaganda/scandal and in the end decided that my son would have the MMR, which he did. What I learned about what triggered the scandal was so horrifying, and caused so much distress and terrible illness .

I am at risk of bronchitis with these kinds of infections so I'm already high risk, but this flu is attacking healthy pregnant women very badly - no matter how many blueberries they eat.

BettyButterknife · 10/12/2009 14:12

I was talking to a friend about swine flu and she told me vitamin D can be really useful in preventing all types of flu.

I think I'm going to get myself some of this supplement which is suitable to take during pregnancy and for children. I'm going to dose the whole family up and keep my fingers crossed!

stac14 · 10/12/2009 14:29

DP was talking about the swine flu vaccine as it is being talked about on the news and in the papers but I have explained to him I would like to wait till after 12 weeks, also have to get DS done as he is asthmatic. Does anyone know if DP should get it too? Thanks

WinterMadness · 10/12/2009 14:42

I'm nervous about the SF jab. I just think there are no clinical trials on pregnant women and their unborn babies and so I don't have confidence in it. A doctor I know told me not to have it before 20 weeks so there's no way I'm going against their advice...and when 20 weeks comes I'll see where the land lies.

givecarrotsachance · 10/12/2009 15:04

winter I have confidence that the flu itself could cause anyone on this forum serious harm. However, everyone needs to make their own choices and they should be supported in that.

But, please, please, please don't underestimate how serious this flu can be to preggos.

There is so much history of the components of the vaccine being used on pregnant women that I feel it's safe, even if this specific mix hasn't been trialled. And it's also been given to many preggos over the last year, so all seems well so far. I know we can't see if it's affected any babies properly, as they'll all be too little, but I am really worried about catching it so will definately be getting the jab myself. After all, getting it is definately going to be bad for the baby even if it doesn't make me seriously ill. It's one of those Cheney "known knowns"! Whereas the vaccine is an "unknown known".. I think!

Good luck to everyone making this difficult decision.

Wonderstuff · 10/12/2009 15:18

I to am going to have the SF jab, the single dose, I am a teacher, so am exposed to lots of people, the thing that swung it for me was finding out that 50% of the people hospitalised after getting SF are pregnant women, we seem to be particularly vunerable to getting it and then it becoming quite serious. I am going to wait until after 12 weeks though.

I have just picked up my Bounty and Emma's Diary packs seems to be a better haul in them than there was when I was expecting dd, then I think I got a mini tub of sudacrem and some washing powder, don't get me wrong, not exactly Christmas come early but I was pleasently suprised. Also the teenage lad in Boots who got me my pack wished me 'happy new mum to be or whatever I should say' which made me

Just had lovely m&s sandwiches for lunch and still not feeling sick. Am going to focus on being happy about not feeling ill rather than worry about the baby, nothing I can do now if it has all gone wrong and it may yet be fine. If I'm feeling better still tomorrow may go back to the doctors (again)! See if I can get a EPU scan done? First trimester is so frustrating!!
