Excellent drivelling! Keep it coming

my dh is an absolute angel (even takes ds to work when he can) dispute mil telling him pregnancy isn't hard where do these women come from??

Fortunately with my added complications dh gets to point out that her pregnancies were nothing like mine and she was very lucky.

My friend j has 5 kids and her dh has never changed a nappy, bathed or fed any of them but it works for them and they are very happy. I think you have to find what works for you as a couple and ignore judgey people who tell you to want something different. I personally could never live with j's husband but she tells me he is fantastic in bed and a great dad to anyone over 5

I say he was lucky to find j...

Gracie123 · 08/12/2009 18:56

Ps chewie rennie and remegel are amazing

kittykat77 · 08/12/2009 19:07

Well just been to the docs to tell them about the pregnancy, and it seems that they do the scan at our surgery at 10 weeks, which will be xmas eve for us! Complete bonus as wasn't expecting a scan until the new year!
Only down side is I apparently have high blood pressure already. She said it maybe because I am 'getting older!' Cheers, I'm only 33 - didn't think I was that past it
gracie fingers crossed that everything is ok.

Irishfairy · 08/12/2009 19:14

Wow just realised spent an hour catching up on posts! But it was worth it

Gracie keeping my fingers crossed for you and thankfully you've experienced something similar before... happy to distract you with plenty of drivel! It makes me feel better writing it too. I think we're the same age if I remember from the list. Do people annoy you and tell you you're too young? A few people have been making those types of comments to me since our wedding. Not that I care what they think anyway as everyone is different and what works for them may not be the best for us!

Anyway I had a private scan booked for Saturday and it was cancelled! My 12 week scan in on Tuesday 23rd so it's only 2 weeks to wait but I guess I'm not overly patient because I hate the wait and really wanted to start telling people if all was ok. I had a cry on Saturday when I couldn't have it, I was really looking forward to it! I feel a bit ashamed but I've never been a big crier so I'm blaming the hormones.

Violet we have our scans on the same day and I will be 12 + 2 then also! Let's hold hands

On the plus side we told DH's parents at the weekend and they are ecstatic, first grandchild and all. There hasn't been a baby in the entire (even inc. extended) family in 24 years! My parents are very, very happy and excited too even though we're making them grandparents at 45

Hope all ms is treating everyone nicely today... I've been ok for the past few days but today have some queasiness thanks to that delightful excess saliva thing need to eat more

summerymummy · 08/12/2009 19:15

I'm 7 weeks today and having my first scan (went private in the end) tomorrow. Fingers crossed they will see a heartbeat, I'm feeling reeeeally sick this week and my morning sickness kicked in about 6 weeks with DD so hopefully all is going swimmingly After a pretty rubbish experience with NHS last time round I've opted for an independent midwife and a doula this time round but can still get my 12 week and 20 week scan on NHS although I may still end up going private if they are too busy to see me til 16 weeks like they were last time. I met my midwife last week to check we would get on and she is exactly what I was looking for, I'm so relieved and actually quite looking forward to the whole thing now Is anyone else using an indie mw?

Gracie123 · 08/12/2009 19:33

Irish yes, I do get the 'so young' thing a lot. Particularly when someone is trying to tell you that this pregnancy doesn't matter too much because 'you are young, plenty of time for another one'

My mom was a lot younger than me when she had me and I'm sure she would have still been very pee'd off if someone had said that to her. Age is completely irrelevant to family planning as far as I'm concerned. (assuming your legally old enough etc... )

I'm sorry your scan got cancelled. That would have made me cry. TBH I cried in a crappy movie on TCM this morning. IT's definitely hormones...

I feel sick if i dont eat anything for a while, hunger seems to make me feel really really dreadful, thats my excuse for eating my body weight in food anyway!

givecarrotsachance · 08/12/2009 20:32

Absolutely don't understand the MILs and mothers who are so mean and nasty. Am very lucky with both my MIL and mother, both of whom are fabulous. I did have a BF years ago whose mother hated me (obv had no taste ) and that was awful.

summer I was going to definately go indie, until the NHS MW was really keen on a homebirth and said that they're really supportive of it around here. I'm going to talk it through with her more and see what happens. Apparently there's a midwife led unit near us in Wakefield which is an alternative although I really, really want a homebirth and YOB is completely supportive of that.

Why an indie MW AND a doula though?

WinterMadness · 08/12/2009 20:49

If I had a homebirth, I'd end up having to get up and do the cleaning up afterwards, lol

Firerise · 08/12/2009 20:55

Evening ladies,

Gracie fingers crossed all is ok. Everytime I go to the epau they say I am several weeks less than I think I am. I 100% know the last time that we had sex that month but they seem to think his swimmers were hanging around in there for another whole week before impregnating me and they don't believe I tested positive when I did. They said as long as the next scan shows growth all is ok so hopefully it's the same for you x

wonderstuff congratulations on exchanging and hope you start to feel better soon and your doctor can help more. Ms has been waking me up at 5am. Bleurgh.

I have my next scan tomorrow morning. Fingers crossed our jelly bean is ok in there and all the weird stuff saw last time has disapeared.

So exhausted I am giving up for the day and crawling into my bed to hibernate. Night night x

skihorse · 08/12/2009 20:55

wintermadness Here in The Netherlands they send a woman round to your house for 10 days post-partum to do all that + shopping, cooking, cleaning, ironing etc.

Have been away, but can't keep up with this thread! Survived the work Christmas do in London - no queasiness, but sure everyone must have guessed considering the amount of times I went to the loo and drank water all night!

Glad to see other ladies having independent midwives and home births. I am very lucky that my friend near York is caring for me at no charge apart from expenses. She keeps referring me to lots of info about things so I can make informed choices - something I have not experienced on the NHS in other capacities. She has sent me a copy of a letter sent to all midwives and nurses saying they should stop 'sitting on the fence' re swine flu and stating the pros and cons. Anyone know how I can post it somewhere for others to see?

WinterMadness · 08/12/2009 21:12

Wow, Skihorse that sounds brilliant! Why can't we get that on the good 'ol NHS?!?!

kkfairybrains · 08/12/2009 21:17

irishfairy i have scan on the 23rd aswell! will be nearly 13 weeks at that stage and dont think its actually going to hit me until the scan! well my bf mother doesnt know yet but his father does but only because of the way she reacted last time.she got in a huff and didnt apologise to oh until 3 days later.i couldnt understand why it took us a couple of hours to come to terms with it but yet it took her 3 days. dont like her anyway shes 2 quiet and mumbles at ya but she's well able to talk about people. so im leaving it up to him when he tells her!
boobs very sore this side 2 and massive! had lovely soak in the bath last nite and was lovely and relaxed on the couch with no bra on and next thing the dog heard something outside and jumped up onto couch, trampled all over my boobs which let to very explicit language and very sore boobs!
had to bring my brother to hospital sat eve cos he was very badly puking and pains in his tummy for 2 solid days so while i was sitting on the bed with him in a&e i was so close to passing out and got into a state and a cold sweat and couldnt sit up and the nurse had 2 rush in and put me on his bed and put me on oxygen! wasnt funny at the time but hilarious now cos the 2 of us were lyin on the same bed at one stage and the poor doc didnt know whether it was him or me who was supposed to be there! talk about value 4 mnausea seems to have completely disappeared 2! stil v tired but am 10+4 now so suppose i should be expectin it 2 ease off.at least thats what im telling myself anyway to stop myself worrying!
gracie am praying 4 u and will be for next 2 weeks but keep positive especially when u have had the same experience before.x
hope every1 else with sickness starts to feel better soon xx

Gracie123 · 08/12/2009 21:43

Have to say not looking forward to spending Christmas with MiL. Especially if we m/c. Obviously shell pretend to care, but she's made it known that she doesn't want us to have this baby and I won't be able to get that out of my head.
Thankfully dh has decided it's best not to tell her how the scan went. We will simply say that it wasn't ectopic as that was all we were expecting to hear. Hopefully she won't ask anything else.
kk my boobs have to suffer the clutch of a 2 yo who uses them to pull himself up whenever he feels like it, so I feel your pain.
He never used to do this, I'm convinced it's because they are bigger and more obvious for grabbing now...

WickedWitchSouthWest · 08/12/2009 22:22

chewy rennies - thank you! That's what I used with dd as the chalky ones made me gag. Must go get some. Mind you the gripe water worked pretty well

irish too young?! there are some fabulous younger mums and some equally fabulous older mums. Physical age has nothing to do with it, it's down to you and your situation. As an aside my mum went a bit odd when I made her a grandmother at 49 "how did that happen" etc, even though me and dh had been married 3 years lol.

emsie sod the healthy eating, just eat whatever at this stage!

firerise good luck tomorrow hope all is well.

ski are you being serious?! why don't we all get that service!!

I'm not using an indie - very lucky with a good set of nhs mw's here plus there's a mw unit down the road if I want to go there post-natally. Always been intruiged by doulas. I've been offered a homebirth but tbh I don't fancy it. It's just not for me

Oh and the nausea seems to be getting better. Bonkers isn't it? It disappeared at 11 wks with dd too - I'm 10+6 today Just eaten a roast dinner and 6 water biscuits with philly and smoked salmon on . Think this might be an expensive pregnancy!!

violetbubbles · 09/12/2009 08:00

Yes, let's hold virtual hands for our scans on 23rd December irishfairy and kkfairybrains

Well, I tried to eat a 'proper' dinner last night - homemade burgers - and I was ILL for the rest of the night. Stomach cramps and diarrhoea (sorry, TMI?). Had a pretty restless night too. I'm with you WickedWitch - think I'll just stick to eating foods that I know I'm ok with, regardless of whether they're healthy or not; at least for the time being!

I am now off to Google "doula" as I have no idea what it means!

stac14 · 09/12/2009 09:10

Hi all, seem to have missed loads from yesterday sorry to hear bout scan but as you say its happened before so i'm sure u will be fine hun. We will keep you occupied. I talk enough crap anyway lol Good luck to everyone having scans today, mine is at 2.30 and even though it was fine last week i am still nervous. DP says my boobs have got huge, but its only my nips that are sore (sorry tmi). He is also good around the house, just as well cos at the mo all I want to do is sleep lol. thats a great service you have and invaluable in those first ten days, giving mum, dad n baby time to bond. Was at friends last night and was given the usual scary stories related to birth and the hospital I am booking with, didn't half make me nervous. Why do we women do that as soon as we find out someone is pregnant (I have to admit i to have done it) but don't think we realise how off puting it is, its bn 11years since my last child, but this time i am high risk for a c-section. Oops i havent half went on sorry ladies x

Wonderstuff · 09/12/2009 09:16

Morning all.
I was being sick all afternoon yesterday, so have made another appointment with the doctor (this will be the 4th) I tried to book a scan yesterday and they were fully booked and only do alternate saturdays, the girl said she would ask the sonographer if she would see me early or late and call back, but never did! Grr

On the plus side DH went to see the house and said it was perfect so we are filling in forms to secure it which is a weight off.

Had rubbish night sleep, keep going to bed really early, mainly because I feel worse in the evening and want to sleep to block it all out, but then I take ages to go to sleep and I wake really really early. I really hope the doctor can do something today, I can't face feeling this rough for much longer

stardustsmile · 09/12/2009 10:59
