anangel- have you tried drinking more water? That massively helps me with headaches when PG. I guess that a lot of fluid is taken up by the baby, so the fluids need to be kept up.

Hobnobfanatic · 02/11/2009 12:25

Ah, you're a first-timer, MOggmum! How exciting! The one thing no one told me, really, when pregnant - was how good the end result is! It was the shock of my life to realise that suddenly I was the happiest I'd ever been in my life - knackered and skint but ridiculously happy!

VivClicquot · 02/11/2009 12:38

Hi again

Not so good news I'm afraid. We saw a lovely baby that was well in keeping with the dates and that was kicking and moving like mad - but the bad news is that she (it's a baby girl) has a cystic hygroma surrounding her head which signifies Turner's Syndrome or Downs. The sonographer suspects Turner's rather than DS, as the blood flow is fine and there are no other obvious abnormalities.

Am a bit numb and waiting for my consultant at my hospital to call me to arrange an urgent appointment.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. Feel like I've let you all down somewhat. xx

Hollyoaks · 02/11/2009 13:10

Viv I'm so sorry that this has happened to you, and the week before your wedding. At least you booked the private scan so this was seen earlier than at 20 weeks and by the sounds of it your dd is doing well under the circumstances. Please don't feel that you have let anyone down, this is nobody's fault. I hope that you get a quick appointment with the consultant and you and your baby are well.

Good luck.

suey2 · 02/11/2009 13:18

oh viv, i'm so sorry!
I hope you get an appointment very soon xx

sweetkitty · 02/11/2009 13:58

Oh no Viv you must be in shock right now

Hope you get your appointment soon

MoggMum · 02/11/2009 14:00

Viv..we're all here to support each other so pls don't feel like you've let anyone down. Good luck with the Consultant xx

brightredballoon · 02/11/2009 14:07

Hi everyone

Viv don't be so hard on yourself of course you haven't let anyone down at all. I am sorry to scan showed up the cyctic hygroma, I hope your urgent appointment comes through quickly so you can get answers to the list of questions I imagine you will have.

Congrats SK on your scan, 45 minutes wow!!
Was your 9wk scan private? If so would you mind me asking where you had it done? I am looking into getting another scan to put my mind at rest after my baby was so still during my 12wk scan then my nucal scan (which was about an hour later and after I had eaten loads of mints to try and give baby some encouragement).

I am also a bit reluctant to tell my work for a couple of weeks yet, I had DD, went back for 8 months then went on mat leave for DS then went back in February of this year and plan to go off on Mat leave again at the beginning of March, does anyone know if there's a limit to how many maternity leaves you can take with one company?

LittleOneMum · 02/11/2009 14:22

Oh viv [speechless emoticon]

I really don't know what to say, as I know nothing about these things. But please know that I am reaching across cyber space and holding your hand.

You haven't let us down. Not in a million years. Just keep posting if you can, we are all here for you. if there's anything we can do, just ask...

Hobnobfanatic · 02/11/2009 14:25

Viv I'm so sorry to hear your news. It's little consolation, but everyone here has you in our thoughts and will be here, ready for any support we can give.

I hope you can speak to someone very soon, to get all the answers you must be desperate for.

Hugs x

LuckyC · 02/11/2009 14:55

Viv I am so sorry. Thinking of you.

memorylapse · 02/11/2009 15:03

Viv..Im so sorry that the scan was not all good news..I hope that you are able to discuss your options with the consultant asap..sending a very unmumsnetty ((hug))

I went to the doctors today after some bleeding, she couldnt find the heatbeat with the sonicaid so Im beside myself..Hospital wont scan me either and their advice was ring my MW tomorrow and see if she can pick up the heartbeat..I have convinced myself the worst has happened

Yorky · 02/11/2009 15:38

Coming on here is great for making me feel better - I have been feeling pretty rough the last few days but hoping DD will get her teeth through and sleep soon

ML it is very early for the MW to find the hb with her sonicaid, mine didn't even try but t the hospital for not scanning you, I hope you get some reassurance soon.

Viv, how scary is that, I am so sorry, the last people you should be worrying about is us - concentrate on yourself and how you're feeling and more hand holding and hoping for an early appointment

LittleOneMum · 02/11/2009 15:54

memory this is not necessarily bad news - as has been said this is very early to be using it. i really hope that you get good news tomorrow x

sweetkitty · 02/11/2009 16:11

viv - I agree with everyone on here you have let noone down, we are all here to support you

ML - also agree with the others my MW will not even try for a HB until 20 weeks as she said it can do more harm than good, if she cannot pick it up then she has to act on it causing stress and worry which can be for nothing.

brightredballoon - no my 9 week scan was at the EPAS at Wishaw due to previous mc, I had my 13 week one there as well. Hopefully we will have a private one at 20 weeks either at Ingram Street or the Nuffield, I am sure the Nuffield do private 12 week ones as well, they are in the West End, have a google, think theres also a place in Edinburgh

brightredballoon · 02/11/2009 16:30

yeah SK I had my 20wk at nuffield last time and they do an early scan for £100. I phoned the RAH to discuss my 12wk scan and baby being very still and they told me that babies sleep a lot at this age and that if the Dr had any concerns I would have been told. So I am trying to keep telling myself that as surely the Dr scanning must see sooo many babies? I also think I felt a little flutter this afternoon so that has made me feel a lot better. Like I say, we could really do with not spending £100 on a scan right now but DH is all for putting my mind at rest, however I am going to sleep on it and see how I feel in the morning.

ML unbelievable the hospital wont scan you especially given your history. Like everyone has said our MWs here wont even try to find a HB until gone 20wks so hopefully helps to give you piece of mind. Perhaps you have an anterior placenta as well? My sister had that and MW always had loads of trouble finding HB even after 20wks.

sweetkitty · 02/11/2009 16:33

brightred - it's still disgusting that we have to pay for a scan in the first place I was told with DD3 (2008) that they would be rolling out 2 scans the next year but it's not going to happen due to costs, cannot see why this is the case when virtually everywhere else in the country offers a 20 week anomoly scan.

ArrghnBoooeee · 02/11/2009 17:03

just popping over from June 2010 board and wanted to wish viv all the best. What a terrible time for you.

And memorylapse I really hope all is fine for you

AnAngelWithin · 02/11/2009 17:46

SK thats great news. I am so pleased for you.

Yes suey I've been drinking more than usual to try and help.

oh gosh....viv....I am so sorry to hear that. Wish I could say something to help.

ML i can't believe they won't scan you!! How bad is the bleeding? Hope you are ok.

Well not good here either. This afternoon (after a gentle stroll with the dog admittedly) I didn't feel to well and went for a lie down and woke up to a puddle of blood I don't know what to do really. I have had to put a pad on now. All the bleeding I had before was old and only when i wiped as such (sorry TMI) but this was bright red and heavier

charmbutterfly · 02/11/2009 17:49

Oh viv and memory! You are both in my prayers! Let's hope for the best in your situations!

TomlinTowers · 02/11/2009 18:13

Gosh what a lot has happened today...

SK - fab news on your scan, what a relief for you.

An angel - I have everything crossed for you and hope the bleeding has stopped now. Have you rung the EPU to see if you can get a scan or is your scan really soon (sorry can't remember your dates)?

ML - try not to worry, I remember my MW with DS1 wouldn't try to find the heartbeat until after my 20 week scan because she said bubs was too small for the sonic-thing to pick up every time. I hope everything gets sorted out soon.

Viv - I am so sorry for your news but you mustn't feel that this is in any way your fault or that you have let anyone down. We are all here to support each other, that is the point of threads like this, and I'm sure we will all need support at one time on this journey. Please feel free to post as much as you feel able/want to and we will help as much as we can.

I know it's not the done thing on mumsnet (although I can never understand why tbh) but I am sending you all (((hugs))) today!

memorylapse · 02/11/2009 18:27

Thanks everyone.
The hospital phoned and said they would not scan me because in EPU they can only scan up to 12 weeks and its hospital policy not to offer any other scans until 20 weeks, which is then a departmental scan, anyway I went back in and the gynae nurse on the ward(EPU) listened in with the sonicaid and found the HB..was so relieved..she picked it up just below my belly button and said that the GP probably didnt try high enough..my womb is a lot higher than expected for 14 weeks but thats no surprise given how many times Ive been pregnant.

Angel..please ring EPU tomorrow and sak to be seen..Im worried about you

memorylapse · 02/11/2009 18:28

ask not sak

AnAngelWithin · 02/11/2009 18:38

oh ML thats a relief. Has the bleeding stopped. Don't you go worrying about me, you have enough on your plate x

memorylapse · 02/11/2009 18:58

The bleeding has stopped for now Angel..

I would urge you to get checked out though..Im sure everything is fine, but they might be able to tell where the bleeding is coming from and put your mind at rest.

SK..glad to hear that your scan went well..I was surprised when they moved me forward as well as Im pretty sure I know when I conceived

Viv..I hope you are ok this evening and have been able to speak to the consultant, we are all thinking of you and we are here to offer you support
