aaaaaaah james no!!!

Hi everyone

Happy Halloween. Hope everyone is enjoying the weekend?
DH took the DC (3.9 and 22months) trick n treating around 5pm and they had such a good time. The younger one is now in bed and DD is having a great time hearing all the jokes from the kids now that are knocking on the door, although I think I will turn the lantern out and take the pumpkin in soon to get some peace and eat dinner!

I'm 14 weeks today, I do feel a bit nervous since my scan as the baby was so sleepy and I didn't get clear pictures, the Doctor was obviously doing his job checking things which does give me piece of mind things are as they should be but I just vividly remember DD and DS's scans where they were so clear and could see their profiles and arms and legs really clearly. Getting a private scan next week has crossed my mind but tbh we can't really afford it with Christmas just round the corner. My 20wk scan is 9th December so not all that long to wait I suppose.

ANyone suffering from headaches and does anyone have any non paracetomol rememedies? I know we can take paracetomol but I'd like to limit my intake for headaches.

Clothes - what are we all in? I am in a mix of maternity tops (that look like normal tops) and normal trousers, my maternity trousers look really huge, think they are mostly over the bump types so wont look ok until I have a sizeable bump. I have a wee bump mind, but feels very wobbly so I think its probably more due to all the food I am eating!

CS/VBAC oh I can tell I am going to be fickle about this. TOday I am convinced an ELCS would be the right thing as I have in my mind that an elective would be far better than ending up with an emergency one but then DH points out I might get a successful VBAC (DC1 was a normal birth). Sorry for all my ramblings on this, I will go and start a thread in childbirth.

Has anyone noticed a change in their hair? I had my normal highlights done two weeks ago and they have faded far more with me being pregnant.

Den26 · 31/10/2009 19:12

Evening all...

AnAngelwithin, how are you? Can you call your midwives to make an appointment? I know everywheres different but i had to arrange my own appointment with them??

Littleone mum thanks for the info on swine flu vaccine, its all very confusing. I hope the live web chat on monday will be able to clear a few things up.

Not much happening here, feeling generally run down and fed up. Have no energy and nausea still lurking. Waiting anxiously for my dating scan in the post

mollybob · 31/10/2009 22:12

I'm having a ton of headaches too - DH gave me a neck and shoulder massage earlier which was very nice and helped but it gave him ideas that aren't very welcome at present!!!

Will put bromide in his tea before I ask for a massage again...

memorylapse · 31/10/2009 22:18

mollybob..Im having the same problem..might have to get hyold of some bromide

sweetkitty · 31/10/2009 22:20

Evening all, another mad day today am definitely having a quieter one tomorrow, took older two trick and treating they had a ball, DD3 was ill today with a temperature bless her very clingy all day which isn't like her. Cat fine got an overactive thyroid which means he is on meds for life, £136 later ouch!

I'm still feeling rubbish die to this cough/cold and the MS but 13 weeks today cannot wait for the scan on Monday when I can relax a bit.

brightred - I find sleeping it off helps headaches but not always possible when you have other DC to look after, my jeans were getting tight today glad to get them off and get the comfy joggy bottoms on.

James - I'm getting twinges as well mainly when I lie down on my back and try to get back up, classic signs

Angel within - I would give the MW a chase on Monday

welcome and congrats to the newbies too

I was holding a baby today he is 5 weeks but was premmie and only weighs 6lbs odds, so so tiny and gorgeous, I would be well broody if it weren't for the sickness

AnAngelWithin · 01/11/2009 10:08

hi all. I'm ok Den. Still bleeding on and off. No pain which I assume is a good thing. Still making me very nervous though. I have convinced myself that I have lost all my pregnancy symptoms now though

SK ouch!! pets eh?? we have spent over £1000 in operations on our dog in the past 12 months.

BRB, headaches. Oh...don't even go there..I was on beta blockers before getting pregnant for migraine prevention and now I have come off them I seem to have a constant headache I just can't shift, and every now and again, shooting pains in my head. Scarey really, I had a lot of them a while ago and had to go for brain scans as the doc was concerned as I was losing my sight as well and my hands were going numb.
My hair, ew, greasy greasy greasy. Bleurgh.

I am already wondering whether I will be allowed a homebirth with this one, I had my last 2 at home

TwentiethCenturyHeffa · 01/11/2009 17:27

Welcome Napa

Congrats to all those who have had scans, such a lovely time!

AnAngelWithin - hope you hear from your midwife soon, can you call them at all?

SK - hope you managed a quieter day today!

DD went out trick or treating with her cousins and DH last night. She looked very cute as a baby witch. Seemed to enjoy a party of sausages and 'fortune meringues' as well. I have a ton of pumpkins now though

sweetkitty · 01/11/2009 18:50

What a miserable day only went out to get DD3 some Nurofen, Calpol not working as well. Was up for 2 hours with her last night burning up, just crying and wanting held which isn't like her at all, my poor baby she is still out of sort today.

Angel - are you getting a scan/visiting EPU or anything tomorrow? If I haven't felt sick in about an hour I start to panic as well, I am hoping that after the scan tomorrow I will relax a bit.

£100 ouch, I have 3 cats the other 2 have cost me nothing, this one must be about 2-3K in the 12 years I have had him.

Homebirths - my MW wasn't that keen given that this will be number 4 I think the risk of PPH goes up but only slightly, apparently I lost a fair bit of blood last time but it was all straight after delivery like gush then it calmed down straight away, made me very anaemic though, I am going to take spatone on top of my multivit this time though, those iron tablets well ouch constipation.

I seem to have had a lot of headaches as well recently, that paracetamol just won't touch, you can take cocodamol or paracetamol and codeine if really bad, like cannot function bad. Codeine safe to take GP gave me it last time.

I slept for 2 hours this afternoon and felt worse when I got up, this tiredness it's a whole new level isn't it and no amount of sleep will help. Oh roll on second trimester........

brightredballoon · 01/11/2009 19:24

SK hope your DD3 is better soon, its awful seeing them suffer but not really able to do anything. DS was up for an hour in the night just wanted to sleep on me sitting in the rocking chair but I was falling asleep myself so figured it wasn't the safest thing so spent 45 mins getting him to settle in his cot.

Re the headaches yes I am finding going for a sleep does help them (last night I had to go up at 8.30 I was in tears from being so sore). I think I will get a Dr appointment just to confirm it's ok to be suffering like this with them.

Good luck for your scan tomorrow SK Angel yes I agree, no pain should be a good thing and lots of the girls here have had spotting/on off bleeding and are still here with heathy babies , I just hope you get your scan soon to help reassure you.

Hollyoaks sounds like there's lots of bugs going round, hope your little one gets better soon too.

pamelat · 01/11/2009 19:28

Hello all

Back from our weekend away with friends and little ones.

Angel, hope you get good news. Will keep my fingers crossed for you.

I thought I was not suffering from morning sickness, compared to DD anyhow but today I realise that I feel much better so maybe I was!!

I am also not quite as ravenous, still hungry mind you

So excited about scan on weds. have irrational feeling that it may be twins but I think I felt like this last time.

As I remember second trimester is the best.

pigleychez · 01/11/2009 19:46

Hello,

Been lurking but not posting much..
12 weeks on Tuesday and have my scan then too. Looking forward to it but also abit nervous.

Glad to hear about the lovely scans

Welcome to Napa

SK- Those girl do keep you on your toes! hope DD gets better soon.
Hope the scan goes well tomorrow

Hope you all had a good weekend. We had loads of friends round for a little party. Was great but didnt get to bed till about 1.30 then DD woke at 6 so im soooooo tired! [yawn]

napa · 01/11/2009 20:22

thanks for the welcome.

well after telling DD we told her she could tell whoever she wanted and so she has told everyone has has seen in the last two days and she keeps kissing and hugging my belly - very cute!!

starting to feel same as you pamelat - not so sick and not needing to eat every 2 seconds and definately more energy - have shocked DH by making dinner for the last few nights and not asking for take away for over a week now!

sorry to hear about the headaches brb and an angel. i had that when i was pregnant with DD around 14 weeks so hope to avoid it this time. found the only thing that helped was lying in the dark with a cold compress on my head - not easy if you've got kids though! the joy of hormones again!

Hobnobfanatic · 01/11/2009 20:46

Back from a week's break - and have a lot of catching up to do! Nuchal scan tomorrow - so please keep your fingers crossed for me. Everywhere I've looked this week, there have been articles in the papers about older mums and dads and Downs...

Fell ill halfway through the hol with a virus. Doc says I can have paracetemol but nowt else. Really could do with some chloraseptic, strepsils, Beechams etc! Feeling very sorry for myself!

^Hobnob*..yes I know what you mean - there's been a lot in the news lately about 'older' mums and Downs etc. Bad timing for us and has caused me some concern over the past couple of weeks (think I'm the oldest Mum-to-be on this thread ). Had my nucal scan on Thurs and results were good so feeling much more positive now though . Good luck tomorrow - look forward to hearing how you get on.

Angel hope the bleeding has stopped & you manage to get a scan this week.

TomlinTowers · 01/11/2009 21:39

Hi All

Been away for a few days at mother in laws so just trying to catch up! Welcome to the newbies, and congrats to everyone with scans. It's so lovely to catch up on all the positive news! Mine is a week tomorrow and I can't wait...

Wel, asked MIL (who is consultant paediatrician) about the swine flu vaccine - she said not enough conclusive research to say one way or the other. She isn't having it as a front line health care worker, but she is 62 so not in the "at risk" category. She didn't try to pressure me into having it, which I am taking as pretty significant, as she is generally pro-vaccine, but essentially it all seems to come down to your personal attitude to the risks of SF versus the risks of the vaccine - so not much help really! I'm going to see my GP about it I think when the vaccines arrive at our surgery - no word yet that they have arrived, so all theoretical at the moment anyway!

Does anyone know if the SF vaccines are going to be offered to children? That will be a whole new dilemma - whether to get DS1 vaccinated as well....

BRB and An Angel - when I had headaches I found the only thing that got rid of them was lying down in a darkened room and sleeping them off. Not much use when you are at work though.

I think MS has peaked today - I am 11 + 3 today so it feels about the right time. Have just felt rough all day, gagging at everything, not able to eat lots, but hungry all the time - must be getting near the end....!!

charmbutterfly · 02/11/2009 06:02

Hi everyone! Just wanted to get myself on the list! I got to see my baby last week, she was trying to hide her face and tapping her feet, I think we disturbed her nap!! LOL I have been watching the video over and over! I'm almost out of the first trimester, thank you Jesus! The headaches are easing too but the cramps and twinges down there are increasing YIKES!

LuckyC · 02/11/2009 09:34

Hi everyone. Just wanted to say I am loving reading about all your scans. Congrats, everyone! Oh, and welcome to the newbies.

Swine flu - I am in a complete quandary. Because I used to smoke, when I get flu I tend to get it really badly, with loads of breathing complications. I just don't know what to do. Going to have a chat to midwife at next app and will definitely be here for swine flu chat today.

Angelwithin how are you doing?

Tomlin my MS peaked the week before it (whisper it) went. So you might be on the home stretch! So good not to feel sick all the time.

Mogg I am 35 and having my first; had Nuchal scan last week and no results yet.

Also - major disaster - we went out and bought shedloads of sweeties and chocolates in the shape of bats etc because we thought we would have loads of trick-or-treaters. We had TWO! Now stuck with busloads of delicious things. Oh dear...

VivClicquot · 02/11/2009 09:43

Morning lovelies

Hope we all had good weekends. Am off for a private scan this morning as I decided that I can't bear to wait until 7th Jan for my anomaly scan. Based on the scans at 7 and 8 weeks, I'm at 11+6 today, so fingers crossed it will all work out okay.

And oh my days, I get married NEXT WEEK. Eeeeeeeeek.

TwentiethCenturyHeffa · 02/11/2009 10:05

CharmButterfly - glad your scan went well

Pigley - good luck for your scan tomorrow!

Tomlin - my MS peaked last time before it went, and I've had a (very horrible ) peak this week so hopefully it's on the way out!

Viv - hope the scan goes well, and that you have a fab run up to your wedding! I loved the final week, I figured there was nothing more I could do so I just got to relax and be really really excited (night before the wedding I didn't get to sleep till about 6am then woke up at 7am ).

Tomlin interesting to hear about your MIL, that's pretty much been my experience when I've talked to doctors - they aren't encouraging me to go for it and normally they would be with a vaccine.

SK - hope your DD3 feels better soon, it's horrible when they're poorly

Hobnobfanatic · 02/11/2009 10:46

Moggmum - give me three weeks and I'll be joining you at 38 years of age. On the bright side, we have wisdom on our side (or something!) Wish I'd started sprogging earlier - I just didn't know how much fun kids were when I was younger.

AnAngelWithin · 02/11/2009 11:12

hello all! Hope you are all well!

napa thats so cute!

well still bleeding on and off here. It's getting more annoying than anything!! Feeling sick again today so I should've kept my mouth shut haha.

I have got a doctors appointment on wednesday to discuss my headaches and treatment, so I will ask about booking in with the midwife then.

DH is off work all week, he only told me last night, which is nice as we have hardly seen each other lately!

sweetkitty · 02/11/2009 11:15

hi all just back from scan, had a trainee think she was having a good old practice on me, we were there 45 mins baby is fine so that's a relief, they have dated me 3 days earlier on from what I think I am, at my 9 week scan I was 2 days behind, it really is a stab in the dark but they are adamant it's the 5th. I know when I ovulated and also know when I had sex!

Viv - hope the scan goes well, I take my hat off to you I cannot even do my normal things just now nevermind plan a wedding, you must be superwoman!

Lucky - re the swine flu I think I may get the jab, have been reading up about it and it's the same as the normal flu jab just that they make up new vaccines based on what strain is about that year. We probably won't even be offered it though.

Right suppose I had better go get DD2 no rest for the wicked!

MoggMum · 02/11/2009 11:59

Hobnob..glad to hear that kids are so much fun - I do sometimes wonder what I'm letting myself in for !!

LuckyC..yes I'm still waiting for my combined blood test results (post!), however, initial nuchal scan results were good which has put my mind at rest a little.

Still reluctant to tell anyone at work yet though. I think they'll all be soooo shocked as I've always said I would never have kids

MoggMum · 02/11/2009 12:02

sweetkitty..Congrats on your scan & good luck with yours Viv
