AnAngelWithin · 02/11/2009 19:32

oh good I'm glad. I am going to the docs on wednesday anyway. I'll see how I am in the morning.

memorylapse · 02/11/2009 19:45

Angel..get the doc to refer you for a scan

I cant beleive Im 14 weeks tomorrow..I cant fit into any of my jeans or trousers,, will have to go shopping on weds when DH is off work and see if I can get some trousers with a loose waistband or hipster ones.

pamelat · 02/11/2009 20:15

Viv, very sorry that your scan was not good news. Hope you are ok, or as well as can be should I say. I echo let us know if we can help at all, appreciate we probably can't

Angel, am thinking of you too.

ML, so glad the heart beat was found.

Sorry that people are having all this stress and upset

MoggMum · 02/11/2009 20:23

ml glad to hear everything is ok.

Angel..hope you manage to get a scan soon and have some good news too.

hobnob..how did your scan go today?

Hobnobfanatic · 02/11/2009 21:11

Angel I hope all is okay.
Memory - so glad about the heartbeat.
You'd think, approaching the second trimester, we'd all be able to stop worrying - but every step of pregnancy can be so blardy stressful.

My nuchal scan was this evening. I'd drunk the pint of water an hour before and by the time I'd traipsed around the hospital to the unit, I was sooooo desperate for the loo, I couldn't even stand upright and my kidneys started hurting! The receptionist told me to 'let some out', thank GOd, otherwise I know I would have peed myself!

Thankfully, all appears well. My risk of Downs or other problems is very low - way below my age-risk, according to the blood results and the measurements they took. I haven't stopped sighing with relief since! Finally, I feel that I can get excited about the pg, and can't wait to start telling friends etc now...

I don't have my official dating scan until next week, but this scan brought me forward to 9 May, so I'm 13weeks and a bit. So arbitrary - I know my dates and dating it according to size just seems very odd!

I feel guilty for having good news when I know so many people are so worried about their own little ones here. I really hope everyone else gets something to smile about soon.

MoggMum · 02/11/2009 21:26

hobnob...that's great & you must feel so pleased & excited now. No need to feel guilty, it's nice to have some positive news.

It's strange how scan procedures seem to vary so much across the UK. I don't get a separate dating scan, just the nuchal one but I have to wait for the combined blood results via post. It seems to make more sense to get the results straight after the scan so you have the opportunity to ask questions etc. Who knows when my results will arrive with the current postal strike

Hobnobfanatic · 02/11/2009 22:17

MOggmum - do you have to pay for your nuchal? You have to pay £180 here to have one - so it's in addition to the freebie NHS dating one. I'm cancelling the dating one next week - seems a waste! Someone else can have the appt that really needs it!

MoggMum · 02/11/2009 22:25

Yikes - that's expensive!! My nuchal scan was free and they also gave me 6 photos to take home which was lovely. What part of the UK are you based?

Hollyoaks · 03/11/2009 09:05

ML glad they found the HB, what a relief.
viv hope you are ok.
Angel hope you get a scan asap.
hobnob congratulations on the scan.

We have to pay for the nuchal scan in Northumberland, I think its about £160 iirc as a colleague at work had one. I won't be bothering, just have the blood tests at 16 weeks. We do get a 12 week dating scan and a 20 week anomoly scan though.

Hobnobfanatic · 03/11/2009 10:21

I'm in Gloucestershire - apparently nuchal scans will be rolled out free across the country for older mums eventually, but at the moment, it's up to the individual health authorities about their charging policy.

It was definitely money well spent for me - the relief was priceless!

30ish · 03/11/2009 10:54

Had my first scan yesterday - the baby wouldn't keep still! Had a bad doctor who has told me that the maternity unit has targets to reduce the number of cs before she even went through my notes on my previous emcs or asked me what my preference regarding method of delivery for this pregnancy!!!! Very . She wouldn't answer any of my questions properly and I just got soooo frustrated! They also detected fibroids when they did the scan - does anyone know anything about this? I also have another 3 appointments for scans but have no clue as to why I would need three more - I only had two in total with my DD. I left the unit feeling very confused.

Wow viv really sorry to hear your news. Please don't feel like you are letting anyone down, that's what this thread is here for.

AnAngel I hope your appointment tomorrow goes well.

MemoryLapse yay for little heartbeat

Well nothing very exciting has been happening with me, have my scan on Fri will be 12+1 going off last scan, and bringing DH with me, hoping this is what he needs to get happy about the pg and give me some support.

The scan allowance/system here is so weird. I've just discovered my neighbour is 17w and she only had her scan at 14w, and had to go at 7.45pm in the evening! And when she got there they wouldn't let her in or something crazy. We are in the same area but different hospitals (because I wanted Home Birth she doesn't and so we got reffered differently) And yet I have been scheduled for 3, and I am very low risk and young etc... very strange!!

pigleychez · 03/11/2009 13:26

Viv- Sorry to hear everything wasnt perfect at the scan. Hope you get an appointment soon so you can discuss things in more detail.

ML- Glad you heard the heartbeat

30ish- Glad the scan went well.

I too had my scan this morning. All seems well, Just have to wait for the results of the combined test. Its free here in West Sussex and done (if you want it) at the same time as the dating scan.
My EDD is still the same as Baby seems the right sizes for my dates.
Little monkey was laying with its arm up by its head so the lady had trouble getting the neck reading- Cue plenty of jiggling about, laying on my side and prodding with the scanner!
Finally feels more real now and Official!!

BuongiornoPrincipessa · 03/11/2009 15:48

Afternoon all,

Just had my booking appointment with the midwife and all was fine, except my blood pressure was raised (130/90). I have never had high blood pressure before, so she will check again at the next appt before she sends me to a consultant.

Has anyone else had high blood pressure at this stage? I'm hoping its just a temporary thing.

memorylapse · 03/11/2009 16:52

lovely to hear about all the scans.

Ive been to the midwife today and have glucose in my wee again, so definitely have to have a GTT at some stage...MW listened to the HB again. little devil did not appreciate how hard she was pressing and kicked the sonicaid

my mw is lovely, she said I can pop down once a week to hear the heartbeat as she knows how worried Ive been..she said the hospital policy is not to scan again before 20 weeks even with bleeding, instead they prefer to listen into the baby.

VivClicquot · 03/11/2009 17:09

Hi lovelies,

Thanks so much for all your kind words. Saw the consultant this morning and sadly, a second scan showed things to be far worse than we thought - the fluid encased much of the baby's body which means the prognosis is almost certainly terminal. So after taking advice from the consultant and a lot of soul searching, DP and I decided to end things now, rather than prolong it for the little one any longer.

I know this kind of decision can be a controversial one, but for us, I know we are doing the right thing. Obviously we're heartbroken, but I know we'll get through this stronger.

Anyway, thank you again for your concern and good thoughts, and lots of love and luck to everyone. You're all stars. x

TwentiethCenturyHeffa · 03/11/2009 18:03

I hope physically you are ok too. xx

Carikube · 03/11/2009 20:21

Hello everyone,
We've just got back from our holiday to NZ today and so am completely knackered. We had a wonderful time though both dd and I got a stomach bug as soon as we arrived so spent the first few days throwing up and not really eating anything. Also she seems to have lost the ability to sleep through the night so I'm really hoping that now we're back home we'll be able to get her body clock sorted! (Though I suppose we did drag the poor girl half way round the world...)

I haven't read everything that I have missed (that will have to be for another day) but sending good vibes out to all those who need them. I've got my dating scan tomorrow pm but as it is DH's first day back at work we might have to try and change it.

Adding myself to the list (with GP's due date, not the one I think I should have - I'll update once the dating scan is done) :
