MoggMum · 23/11/2009 11:07

Mmmmmm, blue cheese - yum! Not sure if I can survive Xmas without any

TinyVeins · 23/11/2009 11:30

Thank you for all the lovely welcome messages .

DH has a conference in NYC 27-30 December and so we decided to make it a 'last hurrah' before life gets turned totally upside down. Can't see us wanting to fly long-haul for a while! We've taken out specialist travel insurance though just in case we're advised not to travel at the last minute but have got everything crossed that we'll be just fine. Any tips for flying whilst 20 weeks pregnant welcome!

Not be offered the swine flu jab yet so am putting off that decision until I have to.

So sorry to hear about your crummy landlord ML. Moving sooner rather than later would be my preference. Is there any chance you can stay in the same area as your current hospital?

LittleOneMum · 23/11/2009 11:34

swine flu - I just wanted to say that james is absolutely right about this. I've been having an ongoing battle with my local PCT and on Friday their latest was that if pg women ask for Celvapan they'll give it to them now. I am going in this week to have it. The reason why I have decided is that in France (where all my family is from) they are absolutely refusing to give Pandemrix to pg ladies, only the Celvapan and I trust the French medical system much more than the NHS.

cupcake I feel like a fat toad too and it's not just your DH - my DH told me he liked my 'nice, rounder bottom' very much. I had a tiny cry.

booboo I'm so glad you said that coming into work is easier than being at home - it totally is - we can say it loud and proud!!!

suey2 · 23/11/2009 12:17

that's brilliant littleonmum and james! I'm taking DD to the docs this evening, so will ask about it then.

memorylapse · 23/11/2009 12:38

god im hormonal today..Im now sat blubbing at the nice things you guys say..
James I didnt think of looking on other sites..have just been looking at rightmove..I personally would much prefer to move after christmas...im going to view a house today which is owned by my hubby;s employer and conveniently situated next to his place of work..but the deposit is astronomical

tinylion · 23/11/2009 12:58

Hello - please can I join? I am due 14th May. 15 weeks at the moment and have problems as I am hungry ALL the time - if I don't eat I still feel really sick. Still feel really sluggish as well. Moan, moan, it's all I seem to do! I have a 2.5 dd already, and feeling guilty (already posted on pregnancy forum) about not having enough energy to give her any attention. Have put on a stone due to amount I'm having to stuff down (and it's all carb related, nothing else but bread, pasta etc will do!)Bled on and off up to 10 weeks but absolutely fine now and good strong heartbeat.

bit guilty today as parents have dd, and have told them I'm off to work, when really I went to get my hair done. Going to work now!!

MoggMum · 23/11/2009 13:54

Welcome tinylion, if it's any consolation I'm also 15 weeks (due 16th May) and still eating constantly to keep nausea at bay. Feel like a bloater most of the time

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 23/11/2009 14:18

Tinylion, welcome to the ravenous club! If I don't eat every two hours or less I turn green and start snarling at people!

memorylapse, just keep looking and making enquiries about suitable houses, something will come up! Maybe worth looking into housing association properties if they have any in your area, they're supposed to be cheaper (which means less deposit to find) and if you say you're being forced to find somewhere to live quickly and you have a baby on the way you may find it gets you help more quickly. Just an idea! (one we're looking into ourselves as our rent is rather hefty for the area we live in)

I'm craving a glass of something at the moment! I'll definitely be having a couple of small drinks around christmas, I don't think it does any harm if it's an occasional thing. I last had a drink (wineglass full of bacardi breezer) at halloween. Bloody nice it was, too!

Yes I think I'll be having the celvapan jab too if I can get it, I don't think I'll get ds immunised though, he's a healthy 2 yr old who shakes off most colds etc really fast. Not sure if this is the right decision to make but I think they're still only offering pandemrix to non-pregnant people.

Hiya,

This is my first thread on this site, only joined Friday! A bit nervous but v excited to be expecting, a first for both of us and the hubby is well stoked.

Some of the comments have really made me smile and I don't feel so alone as my Mum lives in SA (hence my nick, living in Cornwall now).

Maybe someone can help me with all the abbreviations, it's like learning text speak all over again, DD, DC, etc? I did look in FAQ but found nothing?

We should hopefully all be going for out 20 week scan next month, good luck everyone!

Tinylion, I've added you too, don't know if you want to update with your age

ML sorry but have no useful advice for you but hope you get sorted soon.

Still no clue whether or not to have the sf jab. The more I read the info on it and hear other peoples plans the more confused I get.

Carikube · 23/11/2009 15:27

Tinyveins we travelled to Thailand last year when I was 19-21 weeks pg as we had our holiday booked. It was a great time to go away as I had enough energy to really enjoy it. The flying wasn't a problem (didn't get any special treatment mind you as I was still in the 'is she pg or just fat?' stage, unlike this time where I have popped right out).

The only difficulty I had on the flight was trying to get my own drink - DH was convinced I shouldn't waste free alcohol so got cross if I ordered anything other than wine etc as he wanted to drink it on my behalf. The looks I got from him if I got myself a coke were priceless

pamelat · 23/11/2009 20:47

I was against the vaccine but may have Celvapan.

I really dont know what to do about 22 month old DD as I believe they won't give Celvapan to her. She does get a lot of coughs and colds but would never forgive myself if anything really bad happened to her , especially something I may have been able to prevent. What on earth do you do?

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 23/11/2009 21:04

Pamelat, I wouldn't worry too much about small children having the jab UNLESS they are a bit sickly or asthmatic - The chances of getting swine flu are about the same as getting normal flu, (and most of us aren't panicking about getting the normal flu despite it coming round every year)

There is more danger if you get SF while heavily pregnant because the lungs are already compressed by the baby and therefore compromised but for a normal healthy person who isn't pregnant/asthmatic/immuno-compromised, the risks aren't too bad. I think they've blown it out of a proportion a bit, really.

TinyVeins · 23/11/2009 22:23

Thanks Carikube! Am fairly slight so already looking pg, hoping for some special treatment (maybe even an upgrade?) as we're flying out on Christmas Eve and back on New Year's Eve so the crew will either be grumpy as hell or in the party mood! More chance of drinkies on the way home I think as the outbound flight is at 7.30 am!

schipo · 23/11/2009 22:48

just been catching up on posts of last few days.

great that more people are signing up after sucessful scans.

Booze: I have had one or two half glasses of champagne in the last few months (sometimes it's just rude not to ) - but generally don't feel inclined at all. I could admit to the occasional urge to inhale on a cigarette easy enough to resist though luckily.

Scans: Like Hollyoaks I have to wait till next year for my 20 week scan, although I'll actually be 21 + 4 by the time I have it. I thought i was going to get a 16 week scan, but it turns out to be just an appointment for a midwife appointment. Now I've told DH you can pay to get 4d scans though and come away with DVD's he's very keen. Can anyone who's done all this before recommend what at what stage during pregnancy a 4d scan would be most valuable? I'm wondering if it would be better to wait until after 20 weeks?

Swineflu: I don't get colds much and I'm tempted to ignore the whole thing. Knowing how chaotic my gp surgery is I think that will quite easy. I just can't imagine them ever calling me in for it. DH is quite keen I get it though, so i've pointed him at some of the online discussions about risks of either type and asked him to think again.

Alex - I'm in NE London - quite far away really in terms of london transport and schedules, but not impossibly far. Work in central london (well, shoreditch) if you're around? Feel free to contact me. I do agree with TomlinTowers though, posting issues on here can be very helpful. How are you getting on?

Ithappenedagain - hope all is well?

ML: fingers crossed all goes well with your MW tomorrow - hope you find getting this far takes the pressure off. Hope you find a good house soon too.

Cornish - I had to ask the same thing just a few months ago, there's a link to Acronyms in the list of links just under the 'Mumsnet Talk' title at the top of this page. Second last link on the line.

TomlinTowers · 23/11/2009 23:26

Hi All just popping on to catch up.

ML - your housing situation sounds terrible. I would go down to the Citizens Advice Bureau and ask if there is anything that can be done to prevent you being kicked out of your current home - do you have anything in writing to show that the rental term was originally three years? If not, then at least the CAB will be able to help in terms of options so that you don't need to move hospital and your DS can stay at his school. Hope you get it sorted out.

Swine Flu - having originally decided against the jab, I have now decided that I am going to have it, and I am getting DS vaccinated as well when his turn comes. I have a close friend who is training to be a Consultant in Obs and Gynae and is due two days after me who has done all the research and says both vaccines fine and she has had the pandemrix, and MIL who is consultant paed who has also done research and says both vaccines fine. So I decided to go ahead with it and just get jabbed and worry about the consequences if they ever happen. Getting DS jabbed as well as he tends to pick up every cold going round and they always go to his chest, so seems a good idea to me to get vaccinated. But I am going to request the Celvapan vaccine from the GP - going to ring them on Wed when I have day off work.

Scans - mine is also 23rd Dec so hopefully a good xmas present!

Booze - I didn't touch a drop with DS1, never really got back into drinking afterwards (I always worry about what will happen in DS1 needs to go to A & E and neither me nor DH fit to drive - DH is big drinker, as I was before preg, but then just lost taste during first preg). So won't touch anything this preg either, just because I don't fancy it.

Think that's it - off to bed!

suey2 · 24/11/2009 06:37

morning!
hey schipo we should meet for coffee- my practice is at old street!

memorylapse · 24/11/2009 11:59

morning all..Im technically 17 weeks today..cant get hold of the MW today though and really wanted them to listen in today

Tomlin..sadly we didnt get a contract for 3 years..you get an assured shorthold tenancy which is no more than a year then you renew..but the LL assured us he was away for 3 years plus..so we felt confident taking on the tenancy...
yesterday we looked at a house which is situated next door to my husbands work and owned by his employers.(he works for a scottish based chain of garden centres and managers this particular centre) its a modern large 4 bed house and we know that we could technically stay there as long as we like..so hubby has emailed head office today to find out if they will neogotiate the rent as its a little high.

I actually bought a pregnancy mag yesterday..then spent all evening not daring to read it in case I tempted fate

Cornish..welcome to the club

Schipo..when I had my private scan the sonographer said the best time for a 4d scan was 26 weeks

pamelat · 24/11/2009 13:11

Hello all, just popping on quickly. Had arsey conversation with my GP who says pregnant women can not just request cevaplan (spl?!) and he says the media has got it all wrong. Does anyone know what the Dept of Health web link was. Jamesbanana, did you post one? i can't find it now!

LotusPalm · 24/11/2009 14:34

Hi Pamelat,

You need to call your PCT if your doctor is being arsey. An email fromt eh department of health was sent out to them on friday and many doctors dont actually know. The PCT will call your doctor nd he will need to refer you to a clinic that holds stock of Celvepan.

Hobnobfanatic · 24/11/2009 14:45

PAmelat my surgery won't play ball either.,They were very sweet but said they have been told it's only for those with egg allergies and I'd have to travel to Cheltenham or Cirencester for it (an hour away!). BUt, if just pregnant, no allergies, no I can't have it but to talk to my midwife.

I called my PCT - and they didn't have a clue what I was talking about and are "looking into it".

Arhghghghghghhgh!

LotusPalm · 24/11/2009 15:21

totally selish post alert

Is this my baby moving????? Can feel a funny little feeling like someone is pushing a tiny toy car backwards and forwards inside the lower left hand side of my uterus. Has been stopping and starting for about five minutes now.

(May just be wishful thinking as have just had the 16-week app with midwife and she let me have a listen to the heartbeat )
