I'm so glad everyone else is talking/worrying about weight gain..dh and I have had a few arguments about it last couple of days I asked if I was getting fat and he replied 'well it's normal' have been stupidly upset with him which I know is irrational as I am starting to change shape.. it just feels so weird. Have always been a slim size 10 and not enjoying this new figure and massive boobs...I know I'm being pathetic though! Gonna try not to eat so much junk (says she who scoffed a massive box of popcorn while watching New Moon last night )

I'm sure I felt two flutters last night and got really excited but My Mum laughed and said 'pah, far too early for that' (am 14+3) so maybe it wasn't baby

Sorry alex I'm in South Wales so can't be a baby buddy! Sure loads on here are in London though... plus you will meet loads of new Mums in antenatal classes and Mum & Baby groups etc

memorylapse · 21/11/2009 14:58

cupcakefairy..give your DH a slap from me..you are not getting fat..you are just changing shape..thats all. at 14+3 its quite likely you felt a couple of flutters, its a lovely feeling isnt it

mollybob · 21/11/2009 15:13

Isn't this one time DH can't win though - it is normal for your shape to change - it doesn't mean you're turning into a heifer for ever. Speaking as a heifer. I'm still 7 lbs down so far with all the vomiting and would kill for a nice curry. And I'm sure my boobs are twice the weight they were before. Just keep healthy and next summer/autumn we can support each other in a new get in shape with a baby thread

TomlinTowers · 21/11/2009 21:52

Now a get in shape with a baby thread I would be interested in!

Thanks for all the reassurance - have decided to call it a baby bump even if it's not, and just try and be a bit more healthy in what I eat. Although the pizza and chips I just ate for tea was yummy...

Alex - I'm in York so nowhere near you, but feel free to post any issues on here and we'll do our best to support you. It's what we're here for!

sweetkitty · 21/11/2009 22:52

hi ladies not much to report here feeling a good wee flutters so quite happy about that.

Re: weight gain, I couldn't care less how much I put on and am not worrying about it, I know that it will all come off again with BFing and running about after all the DC. As I cannot do any exercise or even walk unless neccessery I will probably be really unfit and stiff afterwards, also I compensate and hold myself and walk different as well.

memorylapse · 22/11/2009 09:07

morning all..Im just off to work..which im not looking forward to...last night could not sleep for painful hips..this is usually how the SPD starts.

Im hoping and praying that I can make it to tuesday when I will be 17 weeks..the MW knows m y previous history and has offered to listen in tomorrow..I feel very scared though

TinyVeins · 22/11/2009 13:11

Just joined this thread as a first time Mum to be. Due 13 May 2010 and starting to get excited now that the morning sickness is getting less. Have been in bigger clothes for several weeks now but bump is too small to
hold up over the bump trousers! No flutters just yet, although not for want of trying to spot them. DH is definitely proving to be a saint (he's doing the supermarket shop while I loaf about watching telly).
Only gained 2lbs so far but feeling much bigger. Trying
to eat a bit better now but crumpets and crackers were definitely the way forward for about 6 weeks!

suey2 · 22/11/2009 13:21

welcome tinyveins!
everything crossed ml: If it helps, I can't feel anything at all yet! I think whoever said that it depends on the way they're lying is absolutely right.

DD has been sick the last few days with a mysterious rash following a very high temp. Hasn't turned into chickenpox, but i think it may be roseola infanta which i'd never heard of. I'm going to get my nanny to take her to the docs tomorrow just to be sure.

tiggsy · 22/11/2009 16:41

hey all... not even thinking about weight this close to christmas, had 8 weeks of vomitting so going to have an indulgent xmas then worry about it in june!

anyway, swine flu jab is booked for tomorrow night but still really unsure whether to have it. what do you guys think?? very grateful for all input xxx

lizzie9442 · 22/11/2009 17:32

Hi all,

well I had the swine flu jab yesterday and it was over in a couple of seconds. My arm is quite painful today though. I'm glad I have had it now so can stop thinking about it.

Feeling the baby moving a bit more now which is nice xxxx

pamelat · 22/11/2009 19:08

welcome tiny veins

Have spent all day packing our house (with DH) ready to move on Thurs. Am shattered. DD has been a star though and slept for 3 hours at lunch which was very helpful and she has been in a lovely mood all day, really makes a difference.

I am having my third curry of the week (not take away one though!). I wouldnt call it a craving as could eat anything right now but its definately a "preference"!

Any other second scan dates? Mine is 23 Dec, very excited.

pamelat · 22/11/2009 19:10

ps) what are general views on wine and pregnancy? With DD (once I knew) I never touched a drop but this time I really fancy it!

Its my birthday Weds and house move Thurs, do you think half a glass each night is ok? Just as a one off?

TinyVeins · 22/11/2009 20:18

Good luck with the house move
pamelet! My 20 weeks scan is also the 23 December, the day before we fly to NYC. I have had the odd glass
of wine over dinner with friends or at weddings. Haven't otherwise felt like drinking and when I
have the effects have certainly been swifter!

MoggMum · 22/11/2009 22:13

I've had the occasional (small) glass of wine or beer with no ill effects. There seems to be varying opinions on whether it's ok to drink whilst pregnant but there's no evidence that one or two units a week does any harm. Celebrate your move and birthday in style Pamelat

Tiny - Xmas in NYC - you lucky thing! Very envious

Got my 20 week scan booked in on 29th Dec - can't wait!

mollybob · 22/11/2009 23:04

I'm not drinking but I couldn't face it - maybe a glass of wine at xmas if I've stopped puking by then. I will be so miffed if I can't enjoy xmas dinner - at the moment all the food I can't enjoy or keep down is more of a concern than wine but hopefully things will improve.

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 22/11/2009 23:36

Hi, off to bed in a sec but just wanted to say to the ladies asking about the swine flu jab, apparently you can legitimately ask to receive celvapan now if you're pregnant and worried about the effects of mercury and squalene in pandemrix on the baby. I saw a thread on it earlier, the department of health have a paper on it which you can print and show to your doctor if they get arsey about it. Apparently the DoH thinks any jab is better than no jab. Food for thought! N'night x

Hobnobfanatic · 22/11/2009 23:48

Pamelat - I've put a stone on too! I've eaten so much to try to keep the nausea at bay.

Bit worried that so many of you can feel flutters. My mw said it would be around 16 weeks - which I am at the moment - but I've not felt a thing.

I had half a glass of wine this weekend, to celebrate my birthday. DP and I shared it - much to the amusement of the waitress. She thought we were really tight, I'm sure!

19 week scan booked for 14 Dec and sw jab for 30 Nov. Not sure if Celvapan is any better - some say it's riskier. I'm tempted to stick with Pandemrix. I HATE DECISIONS!

memorylapse · 23/11/2009 09:20

Im very of all you who have scan appts..im 17 weeks tomorrow but no scan appt yet.

warning..whinge coming up...

Im feeling really worried and not knowing what to do..as I said our landlord is back in the UK and wants his house back....and our tenancy ends on 6th May..baby is due 4th but will most likely be born in April..however it means Ill be coming home with a new baby to a house full of packing boxes and then will have to move..Im so cross and upset...we feel deceived by our landlord who told us he was away for 3 years and happy to rent pout to us for that time..we now feel that he knew all along he was coming back...
the other alternative is to discuss with landlord about moving before the end of the tenancy agreement..but it then means we will have to change the hospital im at and it means moving just before ds1 starts his gcses (mind you the alternative means we will move whilst he is doing them)...we dont know what to do..also theres the moving costs..we were not expecting to have to pay for removals again just a few months later and we have no money for a deposit on a house because we wont get our current deposit back until weeks after we move....
sorry for the rant..but im really stressed and just dont know what to do..the children have only just settled too..as we have only been here since may

Hollyoaks · 23/11/2009 09:36

Hi all, still suffering from technical difficulties so spent quite a while catching up. Sorry if I've missed anyone.

cith welcome to the thread

ML hope your not too stressed with your landlord and the house move. Good luck for tuesday.

pamelat hope your not too stressed too, hopefully you'll be settled by Christmas. Hope your grandad gets better soon. Happy birthday for Wed.

tiggsy I'm not as excited about #2 as I was with dd. I think its partly because theres less shopping and preparation to do and your already so busy with the lo you already have.

SK rubbish mw, hopefully you'll get some reassurance soon.

schipo for your good cvs results. Hope dh is going to be ok. As for the stress of being a parent, it never ends! There's always something to worry about.

sarahlou nice to hear from you, glad your getting plenty of support and good luck for the future.

molly I've experience of panic attacks and get times when I get really anxious for no apparent reason. Hope you feel better soon and the tiredness and nausea lift.

mogg no experience with flying with a lo but I imagine it would be easier with a newborn than with a toddler. Just have to organise your packing very carefully.

tomlin I'm only 13 weeks today but have a very definate bump, however its just small enough to look like a pot belly rather than a baby belly

cupcake I'm the opposite and have lost nearly a stone through ms. Enjoying my new figure (minus the belly) just a shame none of my clothes fit. However, I was a little put off when dh commented on how much he loved my new body last night in bed as started to wonder how he feels about my 'normal' slightly overweight figure which I'm bound to return to post-pregnancy. There's no way I could maintain this size without the constant nausea.

tinyveins welcome to the thread. at xmas in NYC.

AnAngelWithin · 23/11/2009 09:40

morning everyone. Sorry I haven't checked in for a while. Been so busy! Had loads of projects to do with the kids for school, my nans been ill, the dogs been ill, DH has been doing his assignment for his course and guess who's had to sit up til all hours typing it up??? DD2 had a raging temp all weekend, and my planned christmas shopping trip with MIL ended in me fratically ringing DH to fetch us after an hour as MIL nearly passed out. STREEEEEEEEEEEESS!!!

and......BREATHE......its monday, I have the house to myself, just me....the dog....and the rest of this sodding assignment thats not even mine to type up!!

Welcome to tinyveins.

ML i wish i knew what to say to help but I don't really. Can you not put yourself on a list for a council type house seeing as you are threatened with homelessness?

James thank you about infor regarding the swine flu jab, i might look into that. I am still very much undecided, especially as nobody has even suggested it to me yet!

No weight gain here at all, but my jeans are so tight I can't breathe. The metal button on my only pair that fits actually snapped off yesterday. Trip to town tomorrow me thinks!
Midwife next monday for my downs risk bloods. Should be ok but would rather be safe than sorry and know whats what.
20 weeks scan is on the 5th January.

Hollyoaks · 23/11/2009 09:42

Meant to add, had my second 12 week dating scan and this one gave me an edd of May 31st. that I'm now right at the end but it explains my very very faint bfp back in September. DH and I are just now confused about when lo was conceived? It will be a nice edd though as its my dads 50th birthday on the 30th. 20 week scan is not booked until 12th January so well behind everyone else.

of all those starting to feel movements, thats my next milestone along with my 16 week mw appointment.

Dn doing well, shes nearly 5lb and going strong. She's good practise for when my hopefully not so lo arrives.

Angel...no we wouldnt qualify as you have to be in a low income bracket..we can afford to rent privately..we just need the security of renting somewhere thats going to long term

suey2 · 23/11/2009 10:30

poor you, ml. Can you negotiate with your LL to delay the move until the summer?

I have the old recommendation re wine- one to two units once or twice a week.

FWIW i would not have pandremix, but would have celvapan. THat is the one that is made exactly the same way as the seasonal flu jab, which has been used routinely in the US for PG women for years. The squalene in pandremix has been implicate4d in gulf war syndrome and other autoimmune diseases, which may not show for 10 to 15m years.

Carikube · 23/11/2009 10:37

ML - sorry about all the stress that this is causing you and hope that you manage to find a solution.

I've got my SF jab booked for next Monday; after DH did a bit of research we think it's better if I have it. My 20 week scan is on Dec 30th so that will be a nice extension to the xmas celebrations.

As for alcohol, I have been drinking; not huge amounts and not every night, but I don't worry about having a glass of wine/shandy here or there and I'll certainly be having champagne at xmas! I figure if the French are allowed to drink wine during pg then that's good enough for me (though they're allowed to eat blue cheese as well which I am seriously wanting to eat but have avoided so far...)

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 23/11/2009 10:41

memorylapse, what a lot of upheaval, no wonder you're stressed! You sound the same as us, we rent and when it comes to moving we never have the deposit money ready for the new place, but if you can find a house privately, often landlords are willing to wait for your deposit to arrive from the last place, or even to let you pay it over a couple of months. You just need to ask around, look on fish4 and netrent.co.uk etc (we actually found our place advertised on freecycle - it wasn't free though!)

If I were you I would try to move as soon after christmas as you can, if your landlord allows it (and he bloody should after messing you about) before you're too pregnant to help with packing, and before your ds starts his revision in earnest. Something will come up though, it always does. We cope, yeah?
