sarahlou I'm so so sorry for your loss I was there 8 months ago and it is a horrible place to be. Take care of yourself ok, and as I keep suggesting...please do join the Emmsy's thread under Conception when you feel ready- everyone there is lovely and supportive. Don't know how I would have got through my mc and ttc again without them.

LuckyC and hobnob know exactly what you mean about changes! I get moments of absolute blind panic about how much my life is going to change and it's scary. DH was made redundant on the day we found out I was pregnant...thankfully he has work again now but we still have to move as we're in a 1-bed flat..so yeah, all this change is a leeetle stressful. I want some stability too!

Welcome to newbies April80 and first1 and and any others I missed.. there are a lot of us but not the whole list seems to post regularly. Congrats on good scans

I'm 14 weeks today and my clothes are definitely getting tighter! Need to call midwife for my 16-wk apptmt actually...

hello all, wow loads of messages!!

sarahlou i am so sorry to hear your bad news. Stay strong x x x

well today i feel very very drained again for some reason!! Had a good few days and felt a bit more on top of things again, but today i could just fall asleep. Went and fetched dd from nursery at 11.30. She is being in a particulary demanding mood today too!!! I want i want!!....sigh....

On the upside, I felt the little one move on monday evening for the first time which was nice.

I think we all have moment of panic where we think 'what have i done!!!' Luckyc, it will pass honestly. Wait til your dh feels the baby move for the first time, all those stresses and arguements will pale into insignificance!!

cupcake my jeans are tight too. I am going shopping with mother in law at the weekend (child free!!) So i might have a look for some more trousers then.

TwentiethCenturyHeffa · 18/11/2009 14:06

LuckyC - sorry you're feeling a bit overwhelmed, it's completely normal though It's a huge adjustment to make. Suey2 is right, I think men can take longer. My DH was hugely involved in my pregnancy (and this one) but he still struggled to really 'get' that there was actually a baby coming, and what the reality would be (he had visions of a cute little baby cooing gently in the corner while we got on with stuff ...that never ever happened!). Hope you sort it out with him soon and feel better

Carikube · 18/11/2009 16:46

LuckyC - as everyone else has said, this is a totally normal feeling. DH very helpfully said to me when I was 7 mo pg with dd that he didn't think we were ready to have children . Bit late for it by then if you ask me! We never really got the concept that we were going to have a lo that we were responsible for but it's amazing how you just get on with it when the time arrives.

Just found out a friend in RL who was expecting at exactly the same time as me has had a mc Can't wait until we all get past the 24-wk mark...

memorylapse · 18/11/2009 18:24

Luckyc its normal to feel overwhelmed..when I was expecting DS2, I quite often felt panicky at the thought of having another baby and as it was DH'S first he had quite a few wobbly moments and frequently seemed rather distant..and there were a few rows..but when DS2 was born DH was so different..and in fact when I found out I was unexpedtedly pregnant with DD2..he was more enthusiatic than me!

Been to the diabetes ante natal clinic today..was there 3 hours

saw midwife, dietician, diabetes nurse and consultant..lovely consultant..seems she worked at the same hospital as me in Cambridge..
Ive been put on clexane which I have to inject into my tummy..feels a bit weird doing that when theres a bump there..probably going on insulin...2 weekly appts from now on and 2 weekly scans from 28 weeks..I was asked If I had any questions but by that time my brain was fried!
midwife listened in to baby who this time was having none of it and was frantically trying to get away and kicking the doppler!
Just got home and Im shattered.

Our landlord has informed us he is back in the country and wants his house back..so after christmas we will have to move house

cupcakefairy · 18/11/2009 18:27

Aw Carikube that is so sad I found out a friend had mc'd just a couple of days before I announced my pregnancy...I felt awful

Just popped back on cos I meant to mention earlier- The last few days I have been getting this HORRIBLE burning sensation in my throat...I looked it up and is apparently common in pregnancy and is a form of heartburn in your throat! Anyone else had this?It is so nasty, like I've eaten hot sauce that hasn't quite gone down or something..yuk. Appaently peppermint tea helps and thankfully I love the stuff so cugging it down! The joys of pregnancy...

OP posts:
mollybob · 18/11/2009 18:36

trousers getting tighter here but too exhausted to go shopping - going online instead or will soon have to hide due to nakedness...

Carikube · 18/11/2009 18:38

Cupcakefairy - I had that a lot when pg before. I started spending a fortune on Gaviscon etc until I got fed up and got a prescription for some generic version from the doctor that I ended up taking at least 3 times a day for most of the pg. I am expecting it to start soon this time round

Sophie2008 · 18/11/2009 21:14

Hi,
Not posted for a while and also just tried catching up as i have been really ill with a cold / virus for the last week and i am slowly getting over it. DD had it first then DH and i was hoping i was not going to get it, and then it struck. DH had to drive me and DD to my mums 130 miles away as it knocked me off my feet. Feeling so much better today, just got a nasty cough and a bit of a sore throat now.

So Sorry to hear the bad news, it really brings it home that anything can happen still.

I'm just over 15 weeks now with the twins. When i took DD to the Docs last week, the doc thought i was over 20 weeks, i said i was only 14 weeks, he didn't know where to look! Was quite funny, but i told him it was twins and he seemed quite releived he hadn't really put his foot in it!

I've not put on any weight yet, but boy have i ballooned!!!! Got my 20 week scan before christmas, was hoping to find out the sexes of the babies but we have to pay to find them out. Is this the case with all hospitals? We left DD as a surprise.
Instead of paying the £50 to the hospital was going to pay the extra and get a private 4d scan done instead.

With regards to the swine flu jab, i def won't be having it. i'd got it into my head that i am not going to be anyone's guinea pig. Then i saw GMTV this morning for the first time in a long time and Dr H. Jones said that he wouldn't advise his partner to have it if they were pregnant at the minute, so that made me feel much better. so i think i am going to wait as you never know, i may change my mind in a month or so.

I hope everyone is keeping well.

Cith · 18/11/2009 22:34

Hello all,
Am finally adding myself to this thread having been looking in here now and then for some time. Had a good scan, but my blood results came back as 1/46 for Downs, so had a CVS last week at St Georges hospital. Was quite upset with the risk scare but the procedure went ok. The consultant was brilliant and instilled loads of confidence and calm which was really good (and quite important I guess). The actual process was really fast - about 2 min, but I did find that it hurt a little as aparently my tummy muscles were all tense (not really that surprising!) The sonographer did a thorough scan for about 20 minutes before the consultant arrived so we really did see a lot of our little baby bean bouncing around which was wonderful...then the whole procedure was conducted while they scanned so could be assured that the baby was safe (well DH could - I had to shut my eyes and squeeze his hand once they brought out the long needle!) Saw the baby and saw/listened to its heartbeat afterwards which is aparently a sign that the risk of MC is hugely reduced so that was reassuring. Spent the rest of the next two days on the couch feeling headachey and crampy/sore tummy but so relieved and calm that the procedure is over - having had a MMC at 13 weeks earlier in the year feeling quite vulnerable about the whole thing - I really didn't expect trying to have a family or getting pregnant to be this stressful!

We got the all clear results on Friday and I cannot tell you how relieved DH and I were. Now just looking to stop worrying and just enjoy every minute of this pregnancy...symptoms and all!

Sophie2008 · 18/11/2009 23:19

Welcome Cith,

So glad you got the all clear!

brightredballoon · 18/11/2009 23:20

Sarahlou I'm really sorry to hear of your loss, thinking of you.

Welcome Cith glad you have been given the all clear, must be a huge relief.

ML sorry to hear you will need to move after Christmas, at least it will hopefully be well before baby arrives so you can be nice and settled.

Caribuke Sorry to hear about your friend, I agree, I can't wait to get to my next scan

agree with Suey's comments on men needing more time to adjust to a new baby. Lots of people around us said that was how they found it and I think that's true of DH as well.

Had a busy couple of days at work and DH has had flu (possibly man flu) and it feels like we haven't had a quiet weekend for months. THankfully this weekend is quiet albeit with one of DD's friends round for a sleepover.

schipo · 18/11/2009 23:40

Sophie - glad to hear everything's ok with your twins.

Cith - Good to hear someone else came through a CVS test ok. I had mine at UCLH and felt I was in safe hands too. Didn't you find out the gender of yours in the process? It was optional for us but we wanted to be told.

memorylapse · 19/11/2009 07:58

Sophie..glad all is ok with the twins..some hospitals have a policy of not sexing or will charge because its considered to be additional to checking the baby's anatomy...
Cith..welcome and congrats did you find out the sex when you had your CVS?

Im 16+2..not enjoying being 16 weeks for obvious reasons...babies movements are more noticeable now..feels like someone flicking me from the inside...going to have to try and be really good with my diet over the next week as my blood sugars were not brill at clinic yesterday and they said if I have 3 consecutive days of abnormal sugars at the same time of day..Ill be on insulin....
trying to pluck up the courage to do my clexane injection this morning..Im such a wimp

LuckyC · 19/11/2009 09:22

Hobnob thanks for reassuring words - yep, we're all in the same boat (though you have more people and animals in it with you!) And yes I am stressing too much and need a stretch of calm. And to be nicer to DH (calm, calm...) He cleaned the kitchen and did two loads of washing yesterday.

Suey thank you too! I do tend to overplan and worry. And interesting about change in dynamic in relationship - I feel like I am rehearsing for that now.

And cupcake, thanks. Blimey must have been a horrible shock for DH to get redundancy on same day as pregnancy! Glad all good now.

And TwentiethCentury and Carikube and Memorylapse - thanks so much for reassuring words! Carikube I giggled at your DH. And I am so sorry to hear about your friend. It's upsetting, hey. I think poor Sarahlou's experience is partly what set me off yesterday.

Memorylapse - PHEW! It all sounds like a lot to be doing. I know its schadenfreude or whatever but even thinking about everything you have coming up made me feel like my life is much easier. (Sorry!)

Sounds like there will be a few house moves coming up.

Cupcake - doesn't sound like fun! Haven't had it yet but will look out for it.

Cith - so happy it all worked out and welcome!

Thanks again to everyone!

TwentiethCenturyHeffa · 19/11/2009 09:36

Memorylapse - that's annoying that you have to move, do you have somewhere to go to or will you have to be house-hunting?

Carikube - that's so sad about your friend

Cith - welcome to the thread, glad you got the all clear

Sophie2008 - glad you feel a bit better, hope you feel fully recovered soon! Well, as much as you can when pregnant!

LuckyC - glad you're feeling better. My DH does so much for me when I'm pregnant and I can be such a miserable git about it. When I'm feeling OK, I'm extra lovely to him to make up for it.

CupcakeFairy - I get that too Last time it kicked in quite late, but I've already had it this time round. I found pineapple juice worked as well, but it is annoying.

memorylapse · 19/11/2009 10:04

TCH..sadly it does mean we will be house hunting again..we are annoyed because we only rented this house as it was marketed as long term let..LL told us personally that he was abroad for at least 3 years so we felt confident that we would be here for a little while..we now feel a bit duped as we think LL knew along he was coming back..weve only been here since May and we are furious that we will have to uproot the children again, we sold our house as the mortgage was astronomical and we will never be able to buy again as we have no deposit

however once bitten twice shy, we wont rent another house that is someones home

Sophie2008 · 19/11/2009 11:02

Memorylapse, sorry to hear that you have got to move, your LL is bang out of order doing that to you.

I'm moving house at the end of February too. Although because DH is in the armed forces we won't have the stress of trying to find somewhere. We just get told this is the house you have got to live in, no choice what so ever, although will try and push for a few things if possible.

I am looking forward to moving from the West Mids to East Anglia again, just the timing could have been better. Didn't want to move so close to my due date as the chances are the twins will come early.

sweetkitty · 19/11/2009 11:12

hi ladies am feeling a bit today so apologies if I bring the thread down a bit. Just feeling so fed up today, had a terrible dream about the baby think it's because I am worrying that I cannot feel much movement and now the sickness has gone I barely feel pregnant it's as if there is nothing in my stomach if that makes any sense. Have never felt like this before with any of them, with DD3 I felt her from 12 weeks. I have an appt with the MW this afternoon so am going to ask her to check for the HB she had previously said she doesn't do it before 20 weeks so might have to convince her a bit. Other than that think I am just fed up of life being such a struggle, completely lost it with DD1 this morning, with her constant whinging and moaning, today it was her tights, then it was her packed lunch, then the hood of her jacket (you get the picture), then her and DD2 fighting argh! Also the state of the house is driving me mad it feels so unclean, I try my best but it is like treading water somedays. And probably as DP is staying out tonight on some away day with work too doesn't help. We also got confrimation of MILs will last night and it is so sad, we don't want anythingbut suppose it is DPs and all we can do is invest it wisely (a badly needed extension).

Anyway am going to stop whinging now as I know everyone has their problems

memorylapse - that's awful about the house, horrid landlord, still maybe you will get a nicer house

Cith - welcome and glad everything went well for you

Sophie - glad you are getting better, re the vaccine I cannot stand Hillary Jones I think he is a bit anti-women and very anti-breastfeeding too, I find him so partonising as well. I do like Dr Chris on This Morning though

cupcakefairy - I was downing Gaviscon like it was water during DD2's pregnancy, two huge bottles a week until someone on here told me that you can be prescribed Zantac or Ranatidine (sp?) on prescription and it is safe for pregnant women to take, it's like a wonderpill one little tablet lasted 12 hours and it is fab for acid reflux and heartburn.

Carikube - so sorry to hear about your friend, but having been on the other side I didn't want my friend not to talk about her pregnancy, you are grieving for your lost LO not your friends IYSWIM. I think you can talk about it but not overdo it.

Right best be off to pick up DD2 it is pouring here then it's MW appt then school run later, going to get very wet.

memorylapse · 19/11/2009 11:26

Sweetkitty..I think horrible dreams are normal when pregnant..I woke up with a start this morning convinced the baby was dead..I havent felt any movement yet today but try to reassure myself..for me 16 weeks is a poignant time as I lost a baby at 16 weeks so I wish I could fast forward a bit
strangely..my sickness has all but gone today..yet yesterday I feel dreadful..so I know what you mean about worrying cos the sickness has gone..you might have an anterior placenta which is muffling the movements.

sweetkitty · 19/11/2009 11:43

Thanks usually at night when all is quiet and I lie down in bed I can feel movements but not for a few weeks I feel sort of empty, probably all in my head hopefully.

memorylapse · 19/11/2009 11:51

If you are worried SK ring your MW and ask her to listen in..my MW said they will happily listen in from 14 weeks..

Hollyoaks · 19/11/2009 12:00

sarahlou I'm so very sorry

sweetpea and den26 congratulations on postive scans.

Will catch up more with everyone else when i get the chance.
