Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Carikube · 16/11/2009 13:17

I've always had a large chest (much to DH's delight) and don't seem to expand too much in pg either except slightly across the back. I'm still wearing my underwire ones as well in order to try and hold the things up

Does anyone have any recommendations though for a good maternity swimming costume? I try and take dd each week and I've noticed that although I haven't got too big yet, my costume is going to be very indecent very quickly so I need to get something else.

I've also had to start sleeping with a maternity pillow between my legs/under my (miniscule) bump - I had a much better night last night than I have for ages. I didn't think I'd be needing it so early on....

Sarahlou8 · 16/11/2009 13:56

Are you around, newmomma? How did you get on?
Feel sick with worry today, I went to bed with a bit of spotting last night and woke up to a big bleed this morning. I've been to the Doctors and he's booked me in for another scan tomorrow.
I've taken the day off work to take it easy but the bleeding hasn't stopped yet. I'm not in any pain but am feeling braxton hick type tightenings.
I've been lying on the settee all morning but don't know if that's making it worse, as it is heavier when I stand up again.
I really hope it's good news for you, let me know x x

suey2 · 16/11/2009 13:57

yep, i am definitely an underwire girl: i got underwired nursing bras too. The other ones are just awful IMO and just don't give enough support.

Thanks lotuspalm: I am really keeping everything crossed: things feel a little on hold until i know for sure.

MoggMum · 16/11/2009 14:07

Oh sarahlou & newmomma I really hope everything is ok for you both. I'll keep my fingers cross and hope to hear some good news soon xx

tiggsy · 16/11/2009 14:28

Hey all. Just wondering if anyone has had the swine flu vaccine? i normally have flu vaccine every year but didn't went pregnant last time so had cancelled this years but now doc is urging me to swine flu vaccine. has any one had it or are you going to have it? been so ill with hyperemesis really don't want to have bad reaction to jab (hmm)

brightredballoon · 16/11/2009 14:38

Hi

I have read all the recent posts but am really short of time (again!) so this will be brief sorry.

hope everything went well at your scan today newmomma. Sarahlou also thinking of you, hope your scan tomorrow is positive.

tiggsy to begin with I was very doubtful about taking the SF jab as I felt it being so very new and with my appointment for it being last week I felt I was one of the really early "guinea pigs". I was concerned about the additives in the Pandemrix vaccine (which is the only one on offer at my surgery) and about the long lasting potential effects to my unborn baby. I am also wary of new vaccines as my DB suffered effects after a new whooping cough vaccine when he was born 28years ago. However three of my friends have had the jab last week and all three (15wks, 32 wks and 38wks) have only had a sore arm as a side effect at the moment and I have been reading more about the links of the additives to symdromes unfounded and also about the level of mercury in the jab is about the same as 9ounces of tuna and is ethyl mercury which passes out of your body in 4 days through your stools as opposed to the methryl mercury in tuna that takes 44 days to leave your system.
So although I haven't had it yet i am now pondering whether I should have it as I have DD 3.9 and DS 23months to worry about catching/passing it onto them/caring for them if I have SF as we dont have family close by.

LuckyC · 16/11/2009 14:54

sarahlou How are you doing? I am so sorry you have had this huge worry and I really really hope all will be well at scan tomorrow. Thinking of you. If it's any consolation I have read about similar things happening to people at similar stage to us loads and loads on these threads and generally it's a mysterious bleed but all's well. Hang in there and come and chat if you need to take your mind off things.

mollybob · 16/11/2009 14:55

I'm planning to get the vaccine once I go more than 48h without vomiting (13 weeks today - expect I'll reach that standard in about another week) Some pregnant women have died and others spent ages on intensive care units with SF and I need to be there for DH, DS and DD so feel I have to look after me. Regarding the vaccines - at least pandemrix is made the same way as the flu vaccine has been for years - the celvepan one uses newer techniques involving cell cultures - I think tried and tested is best. Not looking forward to the sore arm though.

Hope everyone is good today.

tiggsy · 16/11/2009 15:04

right off to book myself in for jab! dd has suffered enough neglect with hyperemesis so think only fair to her!!

Hollyoaks · 16/11/2009 15:34

sarahlou sorry that your having a worrisome day, you've done the right thing and had a day off work. Good luck for tomorrows scan.

newmomma any news?

lotus no knowledge of baby slings at all but will be watching with interest, was thinking about using one of these for a few months as dd will only be 2.4 years when baby arrives and may still be in her buggy.

LotusPalm · 16/11/2009 15:37

Sorry to add to the confusion, but Pandremix isn't actually made the same way as the standard flu vaccine. They say that it is, but with one small, but i would say very vital difference! The standard flu vaccine has about 0.4 of active ingredient in it, Pandremix has 0.04 of active ingredient (dont quote me on actual number but the equivelent is correct). The reason Pandremix can have so littel active ingredient is because of the addition of an adjuvant that works on your immune system to allow this amount to affect you. This adjuvant is apparently only made from fish oil and vitamin e (if only doctors actually believed in the power of these in normal day to day life) but some studies have shown that this ingredient (in other vaccines) has been linked to Gulf War Syndrome and auto-immune issues in later life:
"ingredients, called immune adjuvants that a number of studies have shown cause devastating autoimmune disorders, including rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis and lupus.
Animal studies using this adjuvant have found them to be deadly. A study using 14 guinea pigs found that when they were injected with the special adjuvant, only one animal survived. A repeat of the study found the same deadly outcome.
So, what is this deadly ingredient? It is called squalene, a type of oil. The Chiron company, maker of the deadly anthrax vaccine, makes an adjuvant called MF-59 which contains two main ingredients of concernqualene and gp120. A number of studies have shown that squalene can trigger all of the above-mentioned autoimmune diseases when injected.
The MF-59 adjuvant has been used in several vaccines. These vaccines, including tetanus and diphtheria, are the same vaccines frequently associated with adverse reactions."

I think everyone should work out which risk is more real to them - one now from swine flu or one in a few years. Personally i will not be having the injection, but that is becasu ei consider my risk factor from catching swine flu to be very low. I do not work witht he public or with children, i do not have children, i very rarely travel on public transport except for leisure activities and i do not usually get ill in the winter. I have had flu once in my life. Therefore implied risk froma jab that has not been tested enough on pregnant women, that contains an ingredient that hasnt been proven to be harmless is a haigher risk to me that getting the flu.

To add to that, i wouldn't have the vaccine if i wasn't pregnant either!

Hollyoaks · 16/11/2009 15:44

ML sorry forgot to add, the gp prescribed Metoclopramide. Its got no know adverse effects of pregnant woment but I think I'll keep it for those days when I feel dizzy as I can't keep anything down. Fingers crossed there aren't going to be any more of those.

Den26 · 16/11/2009 16:12

Hi All,

Memorylapse glad to hear you found the heartbeat.

Hollyoaks glad to hear your DN is doing well

Welcome to those who have joined us

Sarahlou and newmomma hope you are both okay

Suey sorry to hear your news, try and stay positive although i know this is not easy.

Re Hair dye - i dye my hair all of the time but this is my first pregnancy so was unsure of risks, i asked my midwife ans she told me its fine aslong as the dye does not have henna in it.

Not much to report here, i've got my dating scan tomorrow - will be 12/13 weeks. Iv also been listening in on my doppler which is very reassuring, resisting the urge to use it often Was hopin to wait to have things confirmed at scan tomorrow before telling people but some family and friends have found out at weekend because i apparently can't go out without having a drink !!!

newmomma · 16/11/2009 16:52

hi ladies
didn't have a scan in the end - just heard the heartbeat. all strong amazingly so no more worries thank god.
that was one of the most stressful weekends i have ever endured. never having experienced bleeding in pregnancy before it is terrifying. but the lovely doc i saw said it could be one of several things and that the pain i'm experiencing is probably separate to the bleeding. bad news is that the pain could last until 18 weeks. maybe longer.
but at least babies safe and well and i can try and get some sleep tonight!
thanks for you kind words!

newmomma · 16/11/2009 16:54

sarahlou any news? thinking of you honey - i know exactly what you're going through.
let me know...?
sending you positive vibes. xxx

mollybob · 16/11/2009 16:55

I'm on metoclopramide - has definitely helped - am also on ondansetron and omeprazole and still vomiting

This is the worst time of the day for me - at work until 6 and half hungry, half puky - usually manage to limp home and vomit as soon as I've seen DH - he's NOT that vomit inducing usually (certainly wasn't about 11 weeks ago )

Sarahlou8 · 16/11/2009 17:18

Thank you all for your kind thoughts, Newmomma I'm so glad it's good news for you, my doctor this morning didn't want to try and find the heartbeat as he said it is normal not to always be able to hear it at 15 weeks and that he didn't want to add to the anxiety.
Nothing much new to report, the bleeding hasn't eased yet and I'm still getting tightenings. I seem to have done nothing today except answer the phone and burst into tears, I'm so worried about the scan.
LuckyC - I've read so many positive stories about this too, I hope I'll be posting tomorrow an awful lot happier x x

memorylapse · 16/11/2009 17:18

Hollyoaks..metoclopromide works by speeding up the transit of food through your system, thus reducing vomiting, so hopefully should help if you are feeling really rotten.

Newmomma..so glad everything is ok

Sarahlou..take it easy until tomorrow..if this is any consolatation..Ive had lots of heavy bleeding with this pregnancy

my nausea is a bit worse again today..have gagged a few times after eating.
Im shattered could do with curling up in bed but have 3 hungry mouths waiting to be fed.
The upstairs shower has broken and iven the drama we had with the boiler Im not hopeful of a quick repair job

newmomma · 16/11/2009 20:16

sarahlou i asked the same question to the doctor we saw but she said that it was possible to hear the heartbeat from roughly 12 weeks but that it would be clearer after 18 weeks. she found it and i heard it clear as day. although i think i'm over 15 weeks the scan thinks i'm only 14 weeks today and they still managed to find the heartbeat.

anyway - i'll be keeping everything crossed for you and hoping to hear some good news from you tomorrow. try to get some sleep tonight and put your feet up until the scan tomorrow. sending you love and positive vibes... xxx

newmomma · 16/11/2009 20:22

sarahlou the specialist also said that bleeding can be perfectly ok. not as drastically awful an occurrence as we automatically assume it to be. she said it could be a bleed from the edge of the placenta or a clot working its way through tubes or various other reasons, but not something to necessarily mean the worst.

obviously she said to always get any bright red bleeding (sorry - tmi) checked out but that not to always assume the worst.

i hope this helps with some of your worry honey. i have to say that i am still having crampy/needle pains which she said may or may not have anything to do with the bleeding but if its my uterus stretching through round ligaments(?) that it can last until 18 weeks. an it can be worse with subsequent pregnancies (this is my 2nd).

thinking of you tomorrow - let me know the outcome? xxx

cupcakefairy · 16/11/2009 21:00

newmomma so pleased heartbeat was still strong, you must be so relieved.
sarahlou will be thinking of you with your scan..feel sad reading about you being tearful I remember that feeling from my last pregnancy- here's my hand!

30ish there's a lovely song by Fleet Foxes called Oliver James you should look it up and have a listen. Your baby boy could have a song already!

Lotus I've been looking at slings too as am a big believer in eping baby v close to Mum (or Dad) as much as possible. I quite like the Murron's Pouch type of Freedom Sling..need to do a bit more research as to whether they're easy to use/secure/good for breastfeeding too.

I have been off MN for over a week as have been busy painting the house in an attempt to sell it to move somewhere big enough to contain 3 dc's plus toys. I will have to spend some time catching up with this thread.

I had my scan last week. I had to go on my own as DH was working abroad. Baby was very wriggly and my due date was brought forward so am amending the list (It was getting crowded on the 30th anyway ).

Hi all! Well i had my scan yesterday and all looked ok and normal so feel i can join in now (been lurking for a while). There are so many of us on here i may not keep up to tho!

Hollyoaks · 17/11/2009 08:10

Hi April

Glad you got some good news newmomma, good luck today sarahlou.

Thanks for the info on metaclopramide(?), if it speeds up the transit of food through the stomach does that mean I should be taking it on a full stomach or just before eating? mollybob sorry to hear your still feeling so awful.

Carikube · 17/11/2009 09:19

Hope all goes well today sarahlou

I spoke to work yesterday and news re mat leave is pretty good - by the time I finish my current mat leave and take my bank holidays and outstanding annual leave, I won't have to go back at all before starting the next one. It feels quite weird having been off since March this year to say that I will see them again in May 2011 though I did feel a bit sheepish 'fessing up to being pg again....
