Welcome to our lovely new home

Gonna start the list again so it is more accurate, hope that's ok!

Angel, they gave me 1:33 chance of downs only, other syndrome risks very low. Had cvs test and lay on couch for next 4 days. Preliminary results good thank god. Hoping that will be confirmed next week.
Am sure it will be fine for you suey.

Oops

sweetkitty · 14/11/2009 15:27

Suey - oh dear, have they given you the actual risk factor 1 in whatever, as someone else said even a 1 in 2 or a 1 in 3 chance is still good odds. Seems a 2 week wait is torturous, can't they give you an amnio any earlier or does it have to be by a certain date? Will be keeping everything crossed for you.

re hair dye - I have dyed my hair since forever and have done through 3 pregnancies and will do throughout this one, there's a tiny chance some of the chemicals may get through my scalp, into my blood stream and into the baby and this is once every 8 weeks as well. Given all the chemicals in the food we eat, water we drink and air we breathe the baby is surrounded by chemicals anyway, more risk from deodorants and prefumes.

Stokey - good news about your scan

Anangelwithin - and you too

Schipo - you will have to add on the stats you are having a boy, is it too early to discuss names yet? I love talking about baby names. My scan baby has a little nub sticking up but I think it's too high up for anyway, I think it's more the placenta, have studied the pics online and those nubs seems to be lower down.

James - nice to see you and good news about your scan too, so many scans cannot keep up

Forces - Molly is pretty DD1 was adamant DD3 was Rosie last time but our surname begins with a R as well so that was out. Cannot have Milly as then her name would rhyme with Millipede

No news from me, MW appointment next Thursday for the AFP triple test think to test for Downs and CF, cannot remember. DP says this is the 2 week golden time between MS stopping and SPD really kicking in

suey2 · 14/11/2009 15:43

Wow schipo that must have been terrifying! So glad to hear it's ok. It's crazy isn't it- you wouldn't put money on a horse at 33/1 or 180/1, but it is deemed high risk!

Sk sadly I have to wait until 15.5 weeks for the test. Will be so reassured though, and if not well, it wasn't meant to be. I got pg quite easily, so hopefully it won't be my last chance.

Carikube · 14/11/2009 18:38

Suey - hope the 2 week wait isn't too hard and that you get good news at the end of it. I'm living in blissful ignorance of my odds even though I'm at an age where they want to tell me...

I'm also trying to work out how many brownie points I'm earning at the moment as DH is out for the second night running and won't be home until the early hours; I've already told him that I expect him to do Sunday lunch

MoggMum · 14/11/2009 19:23

suey2..I know it's a worrying time for you but pls bear in mind that a risk factor of 1/180 is only a 0.5% chance that there'll be a problem. Good luck with the amnio and fingers crossed that everying will be fine x

napa · 14/11/2009 19:45

evening all

after another week away due to pressures of work its the weekend and i have time to read the thread

due to pregnancy brain i can remember very little of what i have just read but hope everyone is doing ok

suey, as others have said 1 in 180 is still a small risk and good luck with the amnio in a couple of weeks

still all ok here, sickness pretty much gone but sciatica kicked in big time so doing anything pretty much hurts, except for sitting crossed legged, shame i can't do that at work!!

DD is still very excited and has told her school friends this week, i think its going to be a long next 6 months, luckily broken up by xmas and DD's birthday!!

hopefully if work calms down and i get home at a reasonable hour i will be on here a bit more often!!

memorylapse · 14/11/2009 21:31

Suey..1 in 180 is still very good odds when you think about it..it means there is every chance that you will be 1 of the 179 for which there is no risk.

Im feeling very down today..my last two pregnancies both ended in the 2nd trimester..one at 16 weeks and as Im 16 weeks on tuesday Ive convinced myself it will happen again..Ive been feeling movements for about 2 weeks, first flutters then this week very definate bubbling/tapping sensations and Ive felt nothing today so have convinced myself of the worst..

lizzie9442 · 14/11/2009 21:39

memorylapse - I feel for you with what you have been through and it must be really hard as you coming up to the same stage. The odds of it happening again are really remote so please don't worry. I'm sure everything will be fine. Try and enjoy the pregnancy, easy said than done I know.

cupcakefairy · 14/11/2009 23:32

Hi girls, just a quick catch-up from me.

Hollyoaks I have often felt the same with such fast-moving threads as this.. But thanks for bringing that up cos I think it is important we all pay more attention to each other.. after all, we may be hanging out together fr a while yet in both AN and PN threads! Hope you're feeling ok today.

Lotus I totally agree about boobs just getting in the way! Mine are starting to annoy me.. I was horrified when I saw them in the mirror this morning I'm just not used to having a big chest! I like my 34C boobs! Dh is of course more over the moon every day.. I def need to go buy some new bras mine are getting v uncomfortable.

Forces glad you had a lovely holiday and to the bottle of coke!!

Suey sorry about your unexpected news.. fingers crossed for the amnio. I have an appointment for downs screening but am really in 2 minds about whether to go; think I would rather be blissfully unaware.

Right...bedtime.

TwentiethCenturyHeffa · 15/11/2009 09:33

Suey2 - sorry to hear that I hope the week goes quickly for you and you get fast news!

Schipo - how scary, glad you're OK

Memorylapse - poor you Coming up to the same stage must be awful.

Napa - Sciatica's nasty, you poor thing! Are you able to get any help with it?

Carikube - are you getting your Sunday lunch cooked for you? I'm finally feeling well enough to be cooking again and enjoying it, but it is nice to have DH cook sometimes

Angel, Stokey and James - congratulations on your scans

SK - I love talking baby names, DH and I have been discussing it but can't settle on anything yet (early days though).

ForcesSweetheart · 15/11/2009 10:28

Ugh SK don't remind me. I was 19/20 wks when I had to go on crutches for the spd, 26 wks when I became wheelchair bound. Lets keep everything crossed we get off lighter this time.

Suey this must be really tough for you, but 180:1 is still a lot of hope. schipo so glad prelim results look promising, hopefully you'll get your mind completely put at ease soon.

I'm with you carikube , I'm 36 and have told MW I don't want to know about anything unless it's something that by knowing about they could treat in-utero. I'd only get myself in a right state.

ml try and stay positive, I can't imagine how tough that must be though. How about using the doppler just to put your mind at ease?

re baby names, while we have Molly for a girl I'm totally without inspiration for a boy - any ideas welcomed. Surname starts with P.

sweetkitty · 15/11/2009 11:12

Forces - don't think I will get off with it it's got worse each time, was supposed to be on crutches last time but it's just not possible with other DC to look after too. Luckily I have the car so it's mostly only walking to and from the car and the odd walk round the supermarket if I am feeling up to it.

napa - are you sure it is sciatica? The reason I ask is I read somewhere last time that a lot of doctors and MWs still aren't clued up with PGP/SPD so misdiagnose sciatica, I believe SPD used to be called sciatica in pregnancy. Apparently it is rare for sciatica to start in pregnancy unless you have been affected by it before, will try and dig out the blurb about it.

PGP

memorylapse · 15/11/2009 11:13

Forces..Im just off to work but have told DH I might get the doppler out when I get home..Im kind of scard I wont pick up the HB..

SK..I think my SPD may be kicking in too..Im nearly 16 weeks and last time it started at 20..but last night I couldnt sleep because my hips were aching which is not a good sign

booboomonster · 15/11/2009 13:00

Hello! Can I join you? Have been enjoying all yr chat but ridiculously paranoid so haven't joined til now. Just had scan on Friday which looks ok. Due 26th May. My second, have DD aged 2 and DSD age 11. I'm 35. Will try and add myself to list but am logging on iPhone which makes it all a bit fiddly.

Loads of luck to those of you with further tests imminent - like the others say, the odds are actually not that bad, but it must b a real worry. Good luck!

Just wanted to add to the chat re boobs. I'm a 34E usually and went up to G last time (blush). I don't think anyone answered the question re underwires - I felt so strongly about this last time (mat bras gave me monoboob) so did some checks and found that as long as underwires don't cut into yr boob (and damage milk ducts) you are fine to wear em. I did throughout - and breastfed after. Anyway, hope that helps!

Hope everyone feeling good today! X

booboomonster · 15/11/2009 13:08

Welcome booboomonster!

I'm sitting on the sofa as DH cooks my Sunday dinner though as I have spent a large part of the morning dismantling old dining room table/polishing replacement (which has been in the garage for 2 years!) and trying to get the chairs in order, I think I'm due a rest!

schipo · 15/11/2009 13:43

SPD sounds like a nightmare! I'd never heard of it before reading this thread. Good luck with it.

Glad you're getting your well earned rest Carikube! Nice that you're ready to come out and join us now booboomonster too

Quite happy to add the gender of my expected baby to stats, as you suggest SK. But if you can think of a better way of doing it than this though please feel free to update:

Haven't settled on a name yet - at least I haven't. I'm actually want to wait till he arrives before deciding. DH though has been calling him a specific boys name from very earliest days - just not sure I want it to be used after he's born. Plenty of time to think of something else though I hope..

Hollyoaks · 15/11/2009 15:01

BooBoo welcome to the thread

ML try not to worry too much, I'm sure baby is fine but there's nothing you can do to ease the anxiety. When do you next see the mw?

Schipo glad you got some reassuring results.

suey those odds are really stacked in your favour, try to stay positive.

Not much to report, still feeling sick constantly though in comparison today is better than others. maybe highlighted by the fact dn came home from scbu weighing a massive 4lb 7oz. Finally got to have a cuddle and a kiss and got to wind her after her bottle. So excited to see mine now.

cupcake thanks for the message, feeling really happy today. Blaming the hormones for Fridays message.

ForcesSweetheart · 15/11/2009 15:08

sk I had heard it gets worse each time, I'm just really hoping the 9-10st difference helps me not suffer so much this time.

ml I'm sure you'll find it no problem. If I can find it through inches and inches of belly fat you'll have no probs.

Welcome aboard booboo carikube you lucky thing. My DH can just about stick a frozen pizza in the over but that's the extent of his culinary skills. The army has been his mother for almost 20 years and he's never had to learn to cook!

Mishy1234 · 15/11/2009 15:29

Can I join the thread? I'm not sure how to add myself to the list.

I'm due 30th May and had my scan last week (all OK). I have 1 DS who is 21 months.

Have had nasty hyperemesis this time around (much worse than last time) so feeling pretty low, but apart from that doing fine!

Haven't read through the thread yet, but will do so I get to know everyone better. Looking forward to sharing the coming months with you all!

brightredballoon · 15/11/2009 15:37

Hi everyone

Suey sorry you have that 2wk wait now, I agree though that 1:180 are still good odds in your favour.

Sorry for all those with SPD, I don't have any experience of it but I did have crippling back ache with DS so I can empathise.

Hollyoaks Brilliant news your DN coming home, how long was she in SCBU for in total?
Re hair dye I have always had highlights put on throughout my pregnancies and every time the hairdresser has confirmed its safe although I'm not sure if that's different to an all over colour?

welcome booboo Carikube hope you enjoyed your lovely lunch courtesy of your DH, my DH can make some basic things but I am a bit of a kitchen hog and would rather do it myself!

Sorry to rush off, DD wanting to go out on her bike!

Hope everyone is well, we fine just wishing away the days until my 20wk scan on 9th December. I don't mean to wish away my life, I just would love to see the baby on screen again, I keep worrying something has gone wrong (I am a constant worryer!)

Hollyoaks · 15/11/2009 15:57

brightred she was in a total of 3 weeks and 5 days, amazing considering she was born at 31 weeks.

mishy welcome to the thread, hope you feel better soon. I've definately felt worse second time round too. Not sure if its looking after dd who is 22 months, so a similar age to your ds.

Carikube · 15/11/2009 16:40

Welcome mishy

I had a very nice Sunday lunch thank you and I was starving at the time but my stomach now seems to be arguing about it... typical. DH now asleep on the sofa watching the football so the effort obviously took it out of him
