I'm having it - whatever one they offer as soon as I stop vomiting for Ireland - have done a lot of research and the statistics about women getting seriously ill and dying from swine flu in pregnancy are terrifying. I owe to my DCs and DH as well as future DC to keep myself well and despite all the furore there is little difference between the swine flu jab and seasonal flu jabs that some women have been having in pregnancy for years. In fact I've probably have that as well if I can. The celvepan is actually a less tried and tested one as it's not made in egg culture but from synthetic new chemicals so unless someone is egg allergic I would stay away from it.

(Don't really want to be outed in MN but only fair to say I'm a medic)

Hollyoaks · 09/11/2009 15:26

luckyc those pains are normal, I get quite sharp pains if I've been lying in the same position for a while and then move suddenly, i.e. when x factor is finished.

Congratulations to all those who have had positive scans and welcome to anyone new.

Thinking of viv and hoping her wedding day went well.

LuckyC · 09/11/2009 17:41

Thanks lizzie and hollyoaks for reassurance and hollyoaks you made me tea go up my nose laughing.

Yay on your scans, littleone and hobnob!

welcome woody !

moggmum A doula comes along with you when you're having the baby to help out and support you - check it out: www.doula.org.uk/content/duk/about/default.asp I have heard really good things. And I completely clueless about childbirth and babies and last time DH was in a maternity unit he nearly passed out and we were only visiting a friend, so...

Oh bloody hell, this jammy doughnut business is just making me really want to eat one. Evil MN HQ!

AnAngelWithin · 09/11/2009 19:52

hello all. how are you?

had booking in today....which WASN'T a booking in But she did sort out my dating scan (that apparently I should have been contacted about 2 weeks ago!!!) which is this friday....the 13th. Hope thats not a bad omen!! Then providing that is all ok, I have got to go to a different hospital 20 miles from the first hospital to have my booking in. I was given my, rather large and totally inconspicuous pregnancy record notes ready with a load of forms to fill in ready for Sunday.

I have now convince myself that my scan on friday will be bad news

TwentiethCenturyHeffa · 09/11/2009 20:29

Mollybob - I've heard that about the Celvapan too that the cell cultures (or something like that?) could be quite risky.

I had my scan today - baby very wriggly and very healthy so I'm pleased Got some lovely photos and feel very relieved to finally see the little one!

Sadly, we got home to find that DH's grandmother has died It's completely unexpected so a real shock, she was a lovely lady.

My laptop has broken as well so might struggle to be on as much until we can get it sorted, going to cost money that we don't have I think.

Den26 · 09/11/2009 20:34

Hi All, date for dating scan came today - one whole week away!!!

Glad to hear others scans are going well.

I am completely lacking in energy and very very grumpy - have been close to fainting a few times too which isn't nice. Nearly dropped down next to the bonfire on sat night!

I am so nervous about my dating scan, i hope alls ok.

Having a doppler sounds like a good idea - i didn't know you could buy them.

sweetkitty · 09/11/2009 20:36

Evening everyone

Been thinking about Viv too, in one way I bet she is glad she found out before her wedding instead of telling everyone at the wedding and then having to retell them, that was one of the worst things for us, when someone would come up and say "oh how you doing had your scan?" and you had to say "no I had a mc" and then they would feel awful. Hope she is having a peaceful honeymoon after a lovely wedding she deserves it.

Angelwithin - nightmare, the level of imcompetence knows no level, today I had to phone up and book my AFP test (believe it's an indication of Downs and CF based on bloods) so phoned the number I had been given, MW says oh no it's changed phone your health centre and book it on this date, so tried to do this receptionist says no sorry no appts left, so had to phone MW back who told me to phone them back and tell them to make me a slot, so had to do this then phone MW to tell her how it had went, honestly what a palaver.

Woody31 - hello and welcome

Littleone mum - glad everything went well

LuckyC - I am thinking about a doula as well, looking into cost, not for me or the baby but to give some support for the family as it's just me and DP and it's hard especially with the other 3 to look after. Wonder if I could get one to do the school/nursery runs and watch the other lot whilst I have a little sleep

sweetkitty · 09/11/2009 20:39

x-posts with Heffa and Den

Heffa - glad scan went well and sorry about your news

Den - hopefully scan will put your mind at ease a bit

AnAngelWithin · 09/11/2009 21:01

den the week will fly by! (she says drumming her fingers on the table wondering how shes going to manage herself til friday haha)

SK yes its a nightmare. What a palaver for you too!!

Heffa to sorry to hear about your DHs grandmother

Den26 · 09/11/2009 21:03

Ha ha! Thanks Sweetkitty and Angel!

Can anyone offer advice about buying a fetal doppler scanner for home use?

memorylapse · 09/11/2009 21:08

I too have been thinking of Viv...I hope she had a lovely wedding day but its so not fair that it will have been tinged with sadness.

15 weeks tomorrow..my next goal is 20 weeks.
going for a glucose tolerence test tomorrow..not looking forward to not being able to eat for hours as I feel sick and jittery if I go more than 20 mins without food at the mo

Angel..what a nightmare for you...they certainly sound as though they are messing you around

Den..try not to worry about the scan..im sure it will be fine

cupcakefairy · 09/11/2009 21:18

Hi girls. I'm only 12+5 and feeling quite jealous of all you 14 and 15-weekers; I can't wait to feel baby move

TCH so sorry about your dh's grandmother..it's horrible when it's a shock like that isn't it so glad your scan went well though.

Viv is prob on her honeymoon now and I really hope she's having a lovely time and making wonderful memories...keep thinking about her

My Mum is now asking if I'm going to have the swine flu jab I just don't know!! Why do they expect pregnant women to make sensible decisions??

OP posts:
brightredballoon · 09/11/2009 21:21

lizzie I am still a bit confused about the SF vaccine, I don't think I will have it but I have an appointment for it on Wednesday with a prior consultation with the Dr beforehand so I have a list of questions for him to answer before I finally make my mind up.

ML hope the test goes well, nightmare not being able to eat.

welcome woody

TwentiethCenturyHeffa · 09/11/2009 22:20

I've been thinking about Viv as well I hope she had a lovely day and is feeling OK.

It is very sad about DH's grandmother, just waiting to hear more information. No-one knows what happened yet, apparently she just keeled over at a coffee morning.

Den - glad you've finally got a scan date

Angel - that you are being messed around so much, hope they get their act together soon. Good luck for Friday, I'm sure it will all be fine.

TomlinTowers · 09/11/2009 22:31

Hi All

Had my scan today and relieved to say it all went well. Finally feels real now. Came straight out of hospital and texted all friends to tell them our news, and got some really lovely messages back, so feeling warm and fuzzy towards the world in general at the mo.

Baby was standing on it's head when scanned (!) but quickly turned over when prodded by the scan equipment. Last photo is of it giving us a wave face on to the camera - they are brill pictures (OTT mum emoticon!)

Glad everyone else's scans went well. Haven't heard from James for a while - hope you are OK James?

Heffa - I'm sorry for your news, that must have been such a shock. Did she know about your news?

lizzie9442 · 10/11/2009 08:01

den26 - I have just hired a doppler from anawiz. I hired one from them before and it was really good. It is done monthly at a cost of £14.99 a motnh and you can cancel at any time. I will probably just keep mine for the one month until I can properly feel baby kicking around.

Well I rang my doctors to find out about when I need to have the jab and have been booked in for sat 21st of this month at 8.40am so have just under 2 weeks to make up my mind if I want it or not. I have been reading through loads of statistics and it doesn't look good for pregnant women if they catch swine flu. I feel I'm swaying more to having it at the moment. I'm just worried that they might turn round in a year and suddenly realise they made a mistake giving us the jab. I hate decisions xx

memorylapse · 10/11/2009 08:09

Heffa-sorry to hear about DH'S Grandmother.

I too have hired a doppler as I feel I need the reassurance, hopefully it will arrive today or tomorrow

Carikube · 10/11/2009 08:30

I bought a doppler on Amazon when I was pg with dd as DH missed the MW appt where I heard the heartbeat for the first time and he was so upset about it that I thought I'd get one.

I haven't used it yet this time round even though it's supposed to work from 10-12 weeks. It was only about £25 or so, so could work out cheaper than hiring one if you wanted.

LittleOneMum · 10/11/2009 09:27

tomlin - great news about the scan.

heffa - sorry about your news. Hope everyone is OK.

For everyone who asked about doulas, I had one last time round, not for the birth but for the weeks after, as my Mum lives abroad and my MIL is quite elderly and DH had to go back to work quite soon after DS was born.

She explained that she was there basically to look after the Mum, not the baby. she was fab. She made me go back to bed lots, cooked and put meals in the freezer, gave me tips on breast feeding etc.

BuongiornoPrincipessa · 10/11/2009 11:08

Morning all, hope you had nice weekends. I had my dating scan on Saturday all went really well, was so nice to see him or her with arms and legs flailing about all over the place! Moving up one day to 20th May.

Have announced pregnancy to the world now, so definitely feels real now. Although it was bittersweet news for some of the family as my DH's grandad passed away last week.

Buongiorno - sorry to hear about your DH's grandad

TomlinTowers - no, she didn't get to know which is a shame We're just waiting to hear about the funeral now, I think DH hasn't taken it all in yet.

I hadn't thought about getting a doppler, it is quite tempting. Didn't know they were so cheap!

I haven't read much about the pregnant women and swine flu statistics, if it's very bad then maybe I should have the jab .

Yorky · 10/11/2009 11:39

Sorry to those who've lost grandparents recently, all mine died before I finished school but DHs grandma is 92 - he will be so lost when she goes.

Just got back from 12wk scan, only one baby with a lovely heartbeat. It was asleep and sitting on its legs so she had a hard time checking that all 4limbs were there but all is well, I feel so much better now. I was getting all nervous which is pretty normal pre-scan for me, but much more so this time for no reason I could put a finger on.

Time to tell the world so have finally added myself to the list

sorry to hear about folks grandparents..mine all died when I was a teen but I never forget how bereft I felt.

got my doppler today and managed to pick up the heartbeat...took quite a bit of poking and prodding as I couldnt really see what I was doing!..I could hear it moving aroud too

lizzie9442 · 10/11/2009 16:20

memorylapse - my doppler arrived today to. I couldn't find the heart beat for ages but eventually did and was so releaved. I'm so glad I got one. I feel much more at ease now. I could here the baby moving to. Its amasing. We are pretty much the same far gone aswel. I'm 15+1 today. Just counting down the days until my next scan xxxx
