brightredballoon · 04/11/2009 22:03

Viv I will be thinking of your tomorrow, good luck.

ML how awful for you to be reading sad stories of people in similar situations but you must keep positive, like pamelat said you didn't expect to make 12 weeks and then the haeatoma was smaller wasn't it? I know its easier said than done but do step away from reading stories and focus on your wee bean one week at a time. Take the midwife up on the offer to listen in every week and take it one week at a time xxx

I also feel guilty for posting about a healthy scan, as you might have read I was fretting as my baby was very still at the 12wk scan and I only got two very grainy pictures of half the baby so I went and had a private scan yesterday after work and was so relieved to see the baby moving a bit (ate a packet of sweets beforehand to try and wake him up!). He/she was still quite still and only made wee movements but I asked the consultant lots of questions and was reassured by his answers so I will try and relax a bit now and start telling people.

IHA yes my skin is awful too.

Good luck for all those with scans coming up and hooray for all those who have had theirs now.

katnkittens · 04/11/2009 22:13

Goodness, I haven't been on this thread since the very beginning but I have been lurking. I was a bit too nervous to post properly due to previous losses but I'm 13 weeks now and feeling a lot more positive.

I just wanted to say brightredballoon I found your post really interesting as my lo didn't move at all at my 11 week scan so I was a bit worried until I remembered that my dd2 (aged 6) didn't move on hers either and I worried for 8 weeks until my 20 week scan!

The sonographer just laughed and said baby was having a nice snooze and it was nice and healthy so I'll take her word for it!

Can someone add me to the list please?

suey2 · 05/11/2009 07:06

hi katnkittens!
yes, my DD was exactly the same on her scans: was asleep for both of them! Maybe i'll have a double espresso before my scan next week.
I'm slightly embarrassed to say that i went out and bought a doppler HRM last time: because i went to a professional chemist i ended up with the one that the docs use. Had a quick go last week, but couldn't find a heartbeat: though i didn't have any US gel! Will try again now i've brought some back from work.

itshappenedagain- my skin is fine, but much greasier than usual: i normally have really dry skin. I put my normal night cream on at one point and I had a spot the next day because i didn't need it! I didn't get spots, even as a teenager. I normally have to slather my legs in cream every day too, otherwise i want to scratch my skin off. Definitely need to wash my hair more often, though.

I've gone onto ADs as I had some symptoms of depression after seeing my dad. Also my brother had a leukaemia scare having been clear for nearly 5 years. Saw a lovely psychiatriast who said 'who looks after you, my dear?'. I'm going to stay on the pills until my new one is 6 months old or so as a preventative. I am dreading the same birth experience as last time, although i know i'm having an elective CS this time in a private hospital. Part of me thinks i'll be miserable until this LO is 15 months old, which is when i finally felt emotionally back to normal after DD.

ML I feel for you: it must be so difficult to relax given your history: but at least you have a lovely MW. Can you afford to buy your own HRM, or might one of your mates have one? then you can check yourself every day if you like.

RacquelWelsh · 05/11/2009 07:13

Hi everyone, my first post on here, so hello.

Viv, am thinking of you, can only imagine how you are feeling but am humbled by your strength.

Like katnkittens (I've added us both to the list), I've been lurking but nervous to post until I was sure I'd not made the whole pregnancy up! Will be 12 weeks on Sunday and had first scan on Monday which was fine. I have an 8mm pituitary tumour (prolactinoma) so was concerned before the scan as to whether or not I had damaged the baby as I took quinagolide (to control my high prolactin levels) for 3 weeks before realising I was pregnant. Although I realise one scan doesn't fix everything, it feels like the first hurdle has been jumped.

It's reassuring to hear other women feeling the same way as me about being pregnant and gives me a good sense of perspective. So, thanks!

Best laugh so far was the midwife calling me an 'elderly primigravida", I'll get my pipe and slippers now shall I?!

TwentiethCenturyHeffa · 05/11/2009 08:49

Hiya Katnkittens and RaquelWelch Glad to hear so many people are having good scans!

Sorry you're stressed Memorylapse, it must be so difficult. Mine's on Monday so I'm quite nervous but excited!

DD's been really sick She was throwing up all afternoon yesterday. She woke up lots in the night needing water and was obviously sleeping badly. She seems happier today but we're trying to only give her water for a while until we're sure her tummy's OK.

Thinking of you today Viv.

Carikube · 05/11/2009 09:27

itshappenedagain - one of my main signs of pregnancy seems to be the skin on my face falling off and last time it carried on through the whole pregnancy. Last time, doc gave me a steroid cream but when I looked it up it said its safety in pregnancy hadn't been proven (though it had caused abnormalities in pregnant animals!)so I refused to use it and just put up with a flaky face.

Had my dating scan yesterday and it was a relief to see the little one having a good old wriggle around and everything seems fine.

MoggMum · 05/11/2009 09:56

Hi Racquel, I haven't heard the term 'elderly primigravida' before but I'm one of those too!

IHA my skin is not at its best either and I'm still suffering from MS. Can't wait for the mythical 'glowing' stage to arrive!

Viv thinking of you today xx

AnAngelWithin · 05/11/2009 10:21

thinking of you today viv

ML, i am keeping everything crossed for you that LO hangs in there. I am sure it will.

welcome to RacquelWelsh

Hope the rest of you are well.

Went out for dinner yesterday evening with 2 friends. ended up spilling about being PG cos I could hardly stomach anything and usually i eat like a horse!!!

Yorky · 05/11/2009 11:10

Morning all, I think I may be nesting already! I never in did in either of my previous pregnancies - the closest I came with DS was cleaning out the fishtank!

Elderly primigravida doesn't sound too bad - my friend was called a geriatric primigravida but that was 20yrs ago!

Hope you're doing OK today Viv. Sad things shouldn't be allowed to happen to friends when I'm pregnant, I'm far too hormonal and weepy to MN when the kids are awake!

ML - keep the positive thoughts for your little one, the consultant thought the haematoma was small so maybe the stories you read had bigger ones? Don't know if that counts but trying to be hopeful.

Welcome Racquel - I haven't put my details on the list yet - scan next Tuesday so fingers crossed till then!

schipo · 05/11/2009 11:22

What a stressfull time!

viv - my thoughts and best wishes are with you too - your strength has been an absolute inspiration to me this week too.

I had my dating/nuchal scan and blood test on Monday. It all seemed go well, blood ok, baby very busy, sucking thumb and posing with his hands on his knees but because of my great age (I've had my 40th birthday since I conceived) and a nuchal measurement on the higher side of normal the risk of downs came up as 1:33. We had the CVS test which turned out to be much easier than the anticipation, and the quick results came back this morning clear. Also learnt that it's a boy which DH is especially happy about. I feel very very lucky now but will be keeping my fingers firmly crossed until May. I don't feel ancient at all, and got pregnant easy enough, but when you look at the stats on paper it does seem like i'm pushing my luck.

Anyway, congrats to everyone else on the good scans - hope there'll be lots more to come.

MoggMum · 05/11/2009 11:29

schipo that's great news re the scan and CVS results - you must be very relieved. Is this your first (can't find you on the list)?

schipo · 05/11/2009 11:37

Yes, MoggMum it will be my first.
I think I was cross-posted off the list but now it looks like I'm joining you on 16th:

and yes, relief is definitely one way to describe it - we couldn't stop smiling

now I think it's time to start telling people...

Hobnobfanatic · 05/11/2009 13:35

schipo - that's excellent news - and so good that you weren't left waiting for too long.

Enjoy telling everyone!

pamelat · 05/11/2009 13:45

can anyone remember the name of the theory about determining the sex of the baby from the 12 week scan photo? I read it on here but now cant find it??

It was something to do with pointing down or horizontal = girl and pointing up = boy

Any clues?! I am too nosey

TwentiethCenturyHeffa · 05/11/2009 13:47

Great news Schipo Enjoy telling people!

MoggMum · 05/11/2009 13:47

Congratulations schipo! It's my first too and I'll turn 39 before my due date. Although I don't feel 'old' we've had a lot of negative press to deal with lately so it's all the better to get good scan results.

I've only just started to tell friends and have been bowled over by their enthusiastic reactions to my news . Think it came as a shock to most as they'd just assumed I never would!

brightredballoon · 05/11/2009 15:44

sorry just quickly will read your threads after DD's playdate has gone home,

I just got a call from the Dr to say I have an appointment for the swine flu jab next wk when I have my MW appointment. Eeeekkkkk I have no idea whether to have it or not. She said it was pandemrix (no idea on spelling) that was safe in pregnant womean and not Clevepan which isn't safe in pg women. I am sure both are safe and that clevepan was being favoured by most preg women?

sweetkitty · 05/11/2009 16:27

Hi all well I don't want to say this out loud but for the past 2 days I have started to feel a bit less sick and a bit mroe human on the downside am getting those familiar SPD twinges. DD1 has been informing everyone of her new baby sister (!) most people have been lovely but have had a few - are you mad? - was it a nice surprise? - are you trying/hoping for a boy? - glutton for punishment? expected them all.

brightred - good news about your scan, did you go to the Nuffield in the end? I haven't had any word about swine flu vaccine, I heard Celevapan (spp?) is the safest as it does not contain mercury but it is more expensive and you need 2 doses.

Viv - been thinking about you, hope things go as well as can be expected for you, take care of yourself xxx

Schipo - good news for you too and a little boy, you should add that to the list, then we can have boy/girl or surprise

ML - I am sure your LO will be fine it's come so far already a little fighter for sure

Right off to make dinner then it's off to a wee firework display

memorylapse · 05/11/2009 17:36

Viv...Thinking of you today x

SK..my MS has definitely eased off..I feel the fog lifting

BRB..Ive heard no word about the SF jab from oyr surgery and my MW didnt mention it on tuesday

Ive got to have GTT on tuesday as Ive had glucose in my wee..2 weeks running..once Ive had the first blood test..Ive got to sit for 2 hours before the next one..Ill take a book I think.

Woke up this morning and was having a BH contraction and My womb was really sticking it and hard!..of course once it died down..it vanished under the layers of flab..was nice to actually feel it though so I know its growing..hopefully will have a proper bump soon instead of just looking fat

memorylapse · 05/11/2009 17:37

that should say sticking OUT..I have issues with this keyboard!

cupcakefairy · 05/11/2009 21:53

Just wanted to say been massively thinking of you today Viv so hope you are ok. You will be fragile I'm sure but you will get there.
Just giving you the link again to the Emmsys thread here I told the girls there about you and they'd love you to join us when you feel ready.

SK that's great sickness is easing

I seem to be massively craving milk which is apparently a common craving anyone else getting that?

OP posts:
TwentiethCenturyHeffa · 05/11/2009 21:53

I'm glad some people are feeling a bit better now. Mine seems to be easing although it still hits really badly at times.

SK - hope you don't get too many annoying comments!

Memorylapse - wow, I didn't know you could get BHs this early!

TomlinTowers · 05/11/2009 22:49

Thinking of you today Viv x x

Cupcake - last pg I drank about a pint and a half of milk every day, and the only thing I have been truly able to enjoy eating for the first 12 weeks of both pgs has been cheese. They are normally things I try to limit eating because I try (!) to watch my weight normally (not very successfully) but I figure I am going to get big anyway and I must need the calcium or whatever because I am craving it, so just give in to what my body's telling me to do. Although the downside is that last time I drank so much milk I couldn't stomach it again for about 6 months after the birth!

My MIL has sent me three articles from the medical websites about the SF vaccine. I haven't read them yet but I will make an effort to read them over the weekend. However, she has read them, and says that they don't report many harmful effects but they are designed to protect the woman from the effects of SF and not the baby, iyswim. Apparently, if we were to get SF, the worry would not be about what would happen to the baby, but about our ability to shake off the virus and carry the baby at the same time. So, I guess it all comes down to the individual and whether you have any other concerns etc. I will read the papers properly over the weekend and I will ask DH (who is clever with technical stuff) to see if i can post a link to them if anyone is interested?

Had a hormonal attack today - DS1 goes to swimming class on a Friday afternoon at our gym and loves it - it is one of the only times we get to spend on our own together. It is a group of 6 toddlers and all the mums get on well, and the kids are working towards a little "badge" for doing stuff like swimming with armbands, blowing bubbles in the water, jumping in off the side etc etc. Anyways, we went away to MIL over the half term, so didn't get DS1 signed up to the next half term of lessons and when DH went to the gym yesterday and asked to sign him up for this half term, all the places had gone! I was really upset because it means that someone has come in and "taken" DS1's place half way through the term and now DS1 can't get his badge with everyone else. Normally I would have complained about this to DH but let it go as being our fault for not being organised, and made sure he was signed up for the Jan half term, but The Hormones took over and I ranted at the poor member of staff at the gym for about 10 minutes before bursting into tears at the thought of all the other kids with a badge on their swimming towel and DS1 being the only one without a badge . Feel quite embarrassed about the whole thing now, may have to go and apologise to the poor woman tomorrow. She probably thinks I am a weirdo....

ML - I am impressed at the BHs. I can't even feel movement yet!

Hobnobfanatic · 06/11/2009 10:10

I must be in the minority - I usually drink loads of milk, but have completely gone off it since pg. Ditto cheese and ditto everything, really, apart from crumpets, muffins, pies, and Pringles!
