berberis I'm having terrible fatigue. I work ft and normally ride my horse 5 times a week and sometimes gym too. Right now I drag myself from my pit in the morning, eat constantly to keep myself awake and by 1pm am ready to down tools and drool on my keyboard... back asleep by 9pm. Every night I think "Oh it's different, I can finish this film" - but nope, it's like I'm hit by a sledgehammer at 9. Asked my boss if I could "work from home" today - but preggo brain kicked in and I actually forgot to bring my laptop home last night so drove in first thing this morning to get it... was asleep on the couch by 3. I have turned in to my dog. I eat and sleep.

Curly I'm also very out of breath and had to make big dog drag me up the hill in the park today.

Smokers - I was reading "What to Expect" earlier - it's an American book so I was expecting "You BITCH, why aren't you wearing a cotton-wool suit?" but actually it says there are some studies which show there is no damage until the 2nd trimester... which means you have a full month/6 weeks to ditch them. Get your plans in action!

MumfieMagic · 20/11/2009 17:27

Hi all
Sorry haven't posted for ages, same reason as Apuski, sick as a dog, all the time, very very bored! Got my appt with the midwife tomorrow morning, very exciting, hope I avoid vomming on her....

lifeistooshort · 20/11/2009 18:34

Hi everyone. I will join the exhausted club. Fatigue finally hit me and I am so exhausted and knackered at work! I am not particularly sick but have noticed that I haven't much of an apetite which is completely unlike me (I was munching for England first two times so I am sure it will catch up with a vengeance).

One the plus side, we had been looking to buy a house for more than a year and have finally exchanged this week. We might be completing and moving in next week! Am very excited.

Right got to go and feed the DC. Keep well everyone

Wonderstuff · 20/11/2009 19:06

MissWooWoo numberjacks very educational, we have been watching far more beebies in this house, I'm just soo tired.
violetbubbles hope the scan goes well tonight.
irishfairy you must be fairly close to me, I'm in Basingstoke

DH has had a nasty cold bug thing, poss. piggy flu, my mum bless her heart has taken dd for the night, will be the first night I have spent without her, going to miss her I think. I sat her down and explained Nanna will be looking after her, she was just really excited

I'm feeling more nauseaus and more tired. Bit fed up with it today.

Wonderstuff · 20/11/2009 19:13

Congrats on exchange lifeistooshort
Hopefully we will be exchanging next week [everything crossed]

Hi all.
Caspar am having similar experiences- urgent toilet trips and a few hot flushes when I am sweating while others are shivering! Very Odd Indeed.

Its so exciting now that people are starting to have scans! Mine on 3rd Dec, will be 8+4, by my calculations (which could be miles out as my cycle has been so irregular).

Looking fwd to hearing evryones experiences!
Happy weekends

tjtheminx · 20/11/2009 20:19

Emsie - do you have any health insurance at all from the UK? I think it would probably cost you a fortune. Just picking figures out of the air here but would suspect $500 -$1,000 for the scan alone. Before anybody interpreted it.
Then another $100 or so for any blood test. Then you would need to visit a genetic counsellor for a chat ( they made me the last time- even if you don't want to) and another visit to an obstetrician to talk about the scan--- each visit could cost $500.

I know these are just guesses but I had all of this at 12 weeks the last time , although wwith insurance you have to pay some of it they still send you a bill --- can't remember the exact figure but fairly shocking. Think in all twas about $3,000.

Where are you going to be? If you are in my area maybe I could point you in the direction of someone who might know.

skihorse · 20/11/2009 20:23

Emsie My midwife team do nuchal scans from 9-14 weeks.

Firerise · 20/11/2009 20:24

Evening all!

Also part of the knackered as hell group today! Thank god it's the weekend now!

Violet hope your scan goes really well!

lifeistooshort and wonderstuff hoping all goes smoothly with all the house moving! I am also from Amasingstoke!

I had the first person ask if I am pg today at work.... Lied unconvincingly and then sidled away looking sheepish- how are you meant to deal with it when that happens???

givecarrotsachance · 20/11/2009 20:39

Hi tj and nice to see you.

That is shocking. Here in the UK - done privately and paid for without any insurance - is less than £200. That's absolutely, out-of-the-NHS paid for privately. Includes scan, blood tests and consultations. emsie no chance you could put off the trip for a few days??

casper & ski sorry to hear you're both having such a bad time. It's all so ironic, isn't it. My parents are off on holiday for two weeks this weekend so I'm going to be stuffed if this kicks in badly for me going into week 6 as I have no choice but to go to work or close the office .

I took LC to the chinese doctor today and at the same time mentioned the fact that the MS was kicking in. She said she could put together a mix of herbs to make into a tea which is apparently really effective. I'm in town tomorrow so if I'm feeling as bad then I'll pick some up and let you know how it goes.

TishTosh21 · 20/11/2009 21:03

skihorse Reading your comment about smoking has made me feel a little bit better. Im trying so hard to kick the habit but is proving difficult, im 6+2 right now and i keep thinking every cigarette is really damaging the baby. Ive got a docs app on mon so if i havent kicked it by then (im reading the stop smoking book by allen carr right now) I will ask her about alternate methods. Id rather use NRT than actually smoke as its no where near as harmful.

berberis · 20/11/2009 21:47

Hello everyone, have spent 24 hours away so hello to all the new people!

To skihorse and everyone else talking about fatigue, I feel your pain, but actually feel loads better today for the first time in a week, and I wonder whether (please bear with me as I'm new to this) my body is getting used to it - I'm due July 10th and maybe others where the fatigue is kicking in are due later? If so, it might be a sign that it will soon pass for you soon! But I'm not a doctor, or a mother, am just clutching at straws.... Perhaps it was just the raspberry smoothie I had at lunchtime.

WickedWitch I think there is a sick room on a far away floor, but as I don't want anyone at work to know yet I'm trying to battle on and be "normal".

This next paragraph has TMI, especially if you're a veggie, so I apologise in advance, but I had such an intense dream last night about meat - cows were staring at me, alive, but were just joints of meat with no skin on them, yuk and sorry - that I feel I cannot possibly face meat again. I got home this evening and thought the house smelt of meat. It was so powerful and I guess part of the magical mystery tour that is pregnancy!!!

violetbubbles · 21/11/2009 08:31

Hey Wonderstuff and Firerise - scan went really well. I was so, so nervous...terrified in fact. But as soon as they put the thingy on my tummy (I forget the technical names) up popped my little bean. It was very, very small, but a good size for it's age. She also informed me that I'm 7 weeks + 4 days, so that's good to know. Then....she tried for a heartbeat telling us that we might not hear anything BUT WE DID!!!! It was AMAZING! She said it sounded good, strong and healthy!

It's still early days and there's always the chance that something could still go wrong but a heartbeat at this stage is good news, so we're v happy! Having another scan done just before Xmas to make sure everything is okay before we tell friends and family.

Hope everyone else is well this morning!

Winnie78 · 21/11/2009 08:46

Morning everyone. Glad to hear that there has been plenty of good news recently... I have a quick question. Can anyone recommend a good pregnancy/labour/childbirth type book please? There seem to be loads on the market , so thought I'd check for recommendations first.

FactsAndFigures · 21/11/2009 08:50

Hi everyone, I haven't been on here for about a week, have tried my hardest to catch up but there's just so many posts.

Welcome to the newbies and hope things improve soon for those who are currently suffering

I'm pretty much symptom free, just like with DC#1, so I'm trying not to fret too much!

DH and I talked last night and we've also decided to book a private Nuchal scan. I just wondered what price you ladies are paying for your's - the one's around me seem to vary from £140 to £265. We thought £140 was pretty reasonable - just wondered how that varied to what others are paying.

TishTosh21 · 21/11/2009 09:31

winnie ive got the pregnancy book by mumsnet, its full of really useful tips on conception through to labour and childbirth and also full of hilarious anecdotes from the mumsnetters themselves! I really recommend it.

Hi guys
i'm absolutely beside myself. after going to the loo this morning, i wiped and there was bright red blood not much, but it's there on the loo roll. i haven't stopped crying, am so scared. i am 6 weeks and 3 days my DH has gone to watch the rugby and i have my 2 DCs at home (6 and 3). I just feel like curling into a ball.
i am going to wait and see what happens today but please, please send me good thoughts --i am so worried and upset. i didn't have any bleeds with my first 2

xx

Winnie78 · 21/11/2009 10:49

Thanks TishTosh and EmsieRo both good suggestions. Might wander round to the local charity shops this afternoon.

FactsAndFigures my GP recommended a private nuchal scan and I think it's about £195.

Page62 sorry to hear you're having a tough day... definitely sending you lots of positive thoughts.

skihorse · 21/11/2009 10:59

page62 is there any way you can get to an EPU today?

GibbonInARibbon · 21/11/2009 11:16

Page do you have any cramping at all? I have friends who spotted/bled in the first 12 weeks and all was absolutely fine. If it gets worse or you are cramping then try and get to the hospital. Try not to worry, it really does happen more than you would think x

page62 I'm sure you know this but spotting on its own doesn't necessarily mean anything's wrong, which doesn't help the worry when it's happening, I know. I hope it's nothing. Is there anyone who can come round?
