lifeistooshort · 16/11/2009 21:19

winnie maybe I didn't. There were too many posts and I wanted to reply and thought it was to you...blame it on the pregnancy brain.

Firerise I am so sorry to hear that you have to go through even more worries and concern. I really hope the scan will go well on wednesday. It must be the two longest day ever. I hope it turns out fine and you have the pleasure of seeing you little bean on the screeen. Thinking of you loads

Winnie78 · 16/11/2009 21:29

No probs at all lifeistooshort... I know what you mean about pregnancy brain.

WinterMadness · 16/11/2009 21:50

Funnily enough lifeistooshort my friend does hypnobirthing and has already mentioned it to me. Might have to make some more enquiries with her...

givecarrotsachance · 16/11/2009 22:26

wonderstuff I work with my parents so told them straightaway this weekend just gone, even though I was just over 4 weeks at that point. I figured that if it went wrong they'd need to know what was wrong with me. We're not telling anyone else though.

Emma eeek - why did your mum say that?

firerise I have been following your posts and I so hopeful that things will be ok for you.

Casper so NOW you want my stats?

July 23rd - Givecarrotsachance, 36, Yorkshire #2

Emailed an independant midwife and looking forward to hearing back from her. Hope she will take me on!

carrots. Course I like stats now that I'd rather do anything baby related than work!

Hi everyone

Posting on the run this morning...

Woke up very early and ran to the loo thinking I was going to be sick but after pressing my face to the cold tiles in the bathroom wall for a bit I felt better. Again, no sickness. Just feeling nauseous 24/7 - but that's a good sign, right?

mousemole - I have got to check out those ginger biscuits you mentioned. DH bought me a big tub of gingerbread men from Asda the other day - they are really nice, but full of sugar! I can recommend those little ginger biscuits from IKEA - work a treat an not too calorific!

firerise - I'm so sorry you're having such a stressful time at the moment. I'm glad that you have this forum as an outlet for your frustration...we're all supporting you so keep us informed!

Good luck once again to everyone trying to cut back/give up smoking!

Right, I'm off to work! x

mousemole · 17/11/2009 11:11

violet go get the biscuits - they are delicious ! Liking the sound of the Ikea ones too - might have to make a trip there next week !
Firerise so sorry to hear things are stressful. Keeping everything crossed for you
I am flying to London today and dreading it. It's really windy and I hate flying at the best of times. Am going to pack a sick bag !

Wonderstuff · 17/11/2009 16:49

Will be thinking of you tomorrow firerise, hope it goes well for you.

Off to pick up dd, been feeling so queasy today, but did sleep a little better yesterday. Was so shattered when I got home that I had a full on wail at DH 'I'm just soo tirrred, sniff' This was at 8pm
Do remember last time going home and straight to bed, don't think dd will be up for 5pm bedtimes

Take care all x

iggypiggy · 17/11/2009 16:58

firerise will also be thinking of you tomorrow - I know only to well that horrible hope/ fear combo. Will have fingers crossed that everything all ok for you.

sevans · 17/11/2009 17:00

Hi ladies! I'm popping my head in the door right now. I got a BFP last Sunday which was CD 37 for me. I took a blood test yesterday and should get the results today. I am very excited but trying to hold out until the blood test confirms this for me. I think I would be due July 20 but I am not certain.

CurlyCasper · 17/11/2009 17:04

Hi sevans me old chum !!!!

Thinking positive thoughts for you firerise

WhatSheSaid · 17/11/2009 17:31

HOpe all is OK Firerise.

I got my blood test results from the dr and my rubella immunity is borderline - I'm right at the bottom of the range. I had the jab at school but that was 25 years ago (eek!)and I guess the time is lasts varies.

Can't do anything about it as I can't have another vaccine now I'm pregnant - dr just told me to try to avoid sick kids till about 20 wks pg - not easy to do. I can't really stay in for the next 14 weeks and I guess rubella must be pretty rare these days - I worked in a childcare centre for 6 years and never once heard of a child having it.

So it's a bit of a worry but I think the risk is very small, hope so as the effects of rubella on a foetus can be really awful (blindness, deafness and brain damage ).

berberis · 17/11/2009 17:58

Hope everything goes ok tomorrow firerise

Is anyone reading any pg books? Someone has lent me miriam stoppard, which is very comprehensive but I reckon knowledge is power!

have just reg with new gp as moved recently but they are painfully slow.
They say will take them two days to enter my details and only then can I book an appt!

Must go and make fish pie - I've gone right off red meat!

GibbonInARibbon · 17/11/2009 18:31

Good luck tomorrow Firerise x

sleb1 · 17/11/2009 19:56

Hi Everyone

Just wondering what others were doing about the swine flu jab? I work in education and am in and out of schools most of which have cases of swine fu at the moment. But I'm really concerned about the possible effect it could have on the baby. Would really appreciate some advice. I have a great Dr, who thinks I shoul dhave it - but Dr's have got it wrong in the past.

I'm going for a seven week scan on Thursday - as this is an IVF baby they need to check how Im getting on. Still hungry more than usual, had a weekend of night sweats ( anyone else) and a day of feeling quite sick yesterday but today feel fine. Any slight twinge makes me wonder if this little one is going to stay with us. I do hope so.

I told my Mum this weekend - what a reaction - she was so pleased, and cried with joy. I couldn't wait until Christmas

Hope everyone is doing ok

lazyemma · 17/11/2009 20:14

hey sleb - there's been lots of discussion about whether people are having the swine flu jab over the last few pages of this thread, and I've also just seen there's a good few threads about it in the Pregnancy forum. The Department of Health guidance to GPs about the vaccine is available online (just google it) if you want to find out a bit more.

lazyemma · 17/11/2009 20:26

forgot to say - carrots - I did later ask my mother why she reacted like that. She reckons it's because becoming a mother is such a big deal (oh rly? I had no idea) and wasn't sure I'd cope. She often assumes I'm a bit useless, which used to annoy me when I was younger but now I realise it's nothing personal and she thinks the same about most people.

yesway · 17/11/2009 21:23

firerise Good luck tomorrow - I really hope you get the reassurance you need.

lazyemma - I had an early scan at the EPU purely because I was paranoid about my lack of symptoms. I was even embarrassed when everything was normal - but they were fantastic and (I think) see lots of emotional and paranoid women like us!

Also - thanks so much for you links about swine flu. I booked in at the GP yesterday and have an appt for the jab on Thurs so I am reading as much as I can in the mean time. I can't decide whether to ask for the cevalpan (or whatever); delay it till the second trimester or just go for it. I also work in the NHS so I am not happy to do nothing at all.

Emster30 · 17/11/2009 21:30

berberis - I have of course bought the Mumsnet guide to pregnancy! It arrived yesterday and I am only going to read it at home, I don't want anyone at work to catch sight of it in my handbag. Though it might help me get a seat on the tube!

WickedWitchSouthWest · 17/11/2009 22:02

evening ladies!

sorry for being awol for a while....welcome and congratulations to the newbies and huge for willitbe. Firerise, will be thinking of you tomorrow. I really hope beanie is in the right place.

I've been feeling really quite poorly, very sick and dizzy and the tiredness is something else! I wasn't this bad with dd, but then I guess I didn't have a small person and her schedule to keep up with then either! We've been eating rubbish for a couple of weeks now so my skin is looking bad and I LOOK ill too now! To top it all off dd was ill on Friday, threw up twice and then just crashed out all day. Did NOT enjoy dealing with the sick I can tell you! She's so rarely ill too

Anyway, I've done something a bit stupid and bought a pram . In my defence it's exactly what I wanted (a bugaboo cameleon) very very cheap on ebay...the whole package for £300. I've been recommended someone who makes custom covers so going to wait til spring before customising it Ridiculously excited but also feel a bit daft - I'm only 7wks! Fingers crossed I've not gone and jinxed myself...

I need to do some reading on the swine flu jab. My concerns are: pg women are not allowed the normal flu jab; how well it's been tested for pg women; and if I'm otherwise fit and healthy how likely am I to catch a bad dose of swine flu? A friend who is also pg and works for the NHS has been advised not to have it seeing as she is healthy...so confusing...

yesway · 17/11/2009 22:13

wickedwitchsouthwest from what I've read:-

Pregnant women in the USA are routinely given the seasonal flu jab. In the last few years they have also given it in the first trimester. (They avoided this before primarily to avoid being accused of causing inevitable miscarriages)

The seasonal jab is not exactly the same as the swine flu jab. The swine flu jab is based on the jab they made for SARS which they tested in clinical trials (but clearly not on pregnant women).

Pregnant women are at up to 12X increased risk of catching swine flu (increasing with each trimester). Pregnant women who catch it are 4 x as likely to be hospitalised and 10X as likely to end up in ITU. A third of those on ITU die. Pregnant women account for 10% of people hospitalised with swine flu. (sorry I don't have any absolute figures only percentages!)

Also, if you have a high fever your baby is at risk of birth defects which is why we're advised to avoid saunas.

It seems we are heading into the predicted second peak now that it is nearly winter. The USA are ahead of us in terms of timing and 400 people are in hospital in New york at the moment.

Having said all that - I am not 100% sure what to do yet though.

WickedWitchSouthWest · 17/11/2009 22:22

thnks yesway that's really helpful. I'm in such a dither over it. It seems that in my area (north somerset pct) they are doing pg women over 12wks as of now, along with the other high risk groups (that's the other thing I need to decide if dd is having it! I'm thinking yes for her). I always had a flu jab when I was working since I always got it and got it badly. This makes me think I should have it. But I haven't had a dose of flu for YEARS now...argh. Why do we have to make these hard decisions when our brains are mush?

WhatSheSaid · 17/11/2009 22:47

Not offered the swine flu vaccine here so that's one less decision for me to make

kkfairybrains · 18/11/2009 00:36

hi all haven't been on in ages! welcome and congrats 2 all the newcomers! big symathies 2 those who had 2 leave 2
been feelin pretty ok generally have good days and bad.i find if i've been busy with work(hairdresser) 4 a few days i get quite crampy and itl take me 2 or 3 days to get over it where i can barely drag myself out of bed! feelin sick sometimes (horrible) but never getting sick.
quick question 4 evry1 not sure if its normal or what but after 'doing the deed' i get crampy pains on my right side that lasts 4 hours and just wondering if any1 else is experiencin anything like this????
hadn't really been thinkin about swine flu injection yet as here in ireland i think u can only get it after 14 weeks so fingers crossed til then!
hope you get good news 2moro fireise il b thinking of u
also must say something about the smoking girls!im finding it REALLY hard to give them up so iv went down 2 a far lighter cigarette and i know people wil 'tut tut' at me but its so hard especially with emotions running high all the time.i know it sounds like im just making excuses! has any1 got dates 4 their booking in appointment yet? iv got mine monday week so wil b 9 1/2 weeks then so hopefully il b able to convince them to give me a scan before xmas as wil b 13 weeks xmas day so would like 2 know that all is ok b4 i tell people.
sorry 4 the big long post by the way!!

violetbubbles · 18/11/2009 07:46

Morning!
Been a busy couple of days! I've switched to another doctor practice - one that's smaller and closer to where I live. I had a great experience with the practice nurse. She weighed me, took my blood pressure, offered me lots of advice and took some blood to test for anemia as she said I was "shockingly pale". I'll get the results next week so I'll keep you posted. Anyone else been/being tested for anemia?

I've also booked an appointment for a private scan on Friday 18th December. I'll be 12 weeks + 4 days by that point (and it looks highly unlikely that I'll get a scan on the NHS before Xmas). If everything is healthy we'll be able to tell our families on Christmas Day, which would be nice!

sleb1 - I've been having night sweats too. Not every night, but usually at least twice a week. It's so bad I've had to change my PJs during the night! .

Oh, and before I forget - a big warm welcome to all of the new BFPs! And I'm sending positive vibes out to everyone trying to give up/cut back on the ciggies at the moment - must be so, so tough!

Hope everyone else is well this morning! I spent 15 minutes lying on the bathroom floor again this morning, but still no actual sickness!

xx
