Thanks Emster. Practically half way there already huh?
I kept all the rules last time, and I was miserable the whole time. I know its early days but can't believe how much easier the nausea is this time [touch wood].

Tink80 · 14/11/2009 18:07

Hi all Im new to this site but Im due on 6th July. I alresdy have two children a daughter who is 5 and a son who is 3 next week. Im looking forward to getting to know you all and having a great 8 (ish) months together!

TishTosh21 · 14/11/2009 19:15

ive bought the stop smoking book off amazon just now. I really hope it helps as ive just GOT to quit.

If anything happens to my baby i will never forgive myself.

I will be coming on this thread every day for words of encouragement if anyone is feeling kind enough to give it

GibbonInARibbon · 14/11/2009 19:26

Welcoem Tink and congrats!

Good for you TishTosh!! you will be amazed how enjoyable stopping smoking can be

GhoulsAreLoud · 14/11/2009 19:33

I'm so sorry will it be

Welcome tishtosh - I gave up using the Alan Carr book nearly 6 years ago and found it really simple so another vote from me too.

Wonderstuff · 14/11/2009 19:35

Welcome Tink
Good for you Tish, hope it works, have you been to your GP, in our area they run a stop smoking support group for pregnant women.

Anyone else really craving a glass of wine?

WhatSheSaid · 14/11/2009 19:40

Yep, I gave up when I found out I was pg with dd and I used to smoke like the proverbial chimney. Never thought I would be a non-smoker. So it can be done

TishTosh21 · 14/11/2009 19:42

thanks guys it really does fill me with confidence hearing your success stories.

Just a shame it wont be with me for another 2 weeks or so! My willpower will have to be strong.

If you want to add me to your list im due on July 13, i live in kent and its #1

WhatSheSaid · 14/11/2009 19:42

I could cope with a glass of wine. Or a nice cold beer. If you're offering

(I won't really, of course)

TishTosh21 · 14/11/2009 19:45

havent been to docs yet as thought it was a bit early but will go next week and mention the smoking.

Has anyone been to docs at about 7 weeks preg? if so can you tell me what they actually do?

Wonderstuff · 14/11/2009 20:00

I don't think they can do anything pg wise, I went when I was first pg with my first pregnancy and she just told me to book in with the mw at about 10-12 weeks, but GP will be good to advise on getting support giving up smoking.

darydork · 14/11/2009 20:14

Im really keen now to get my hands on the allen carr book now, ive never heard the words "quiting smoking & enjoyable" said in the same sentence before!! Have just ordered it on amazon too

Welcome tink80

kittykat77 · 14/11/2009 20:27

Hi guys, can I join too...

Got bfp a couple of days ago. Should be due 22nd july if my calculations are correct!

This is baby no.3 for us. Have dd - 3.5 and ds - 2.5, so am thinking our house will probably be pretty hectic come next summer...!

lifeistooshort · 14/11/2009 20:56

Hi Ghouls we did the hypnobirthing at home as well (because of DD) and because I didn't want to join a class. I wasn't sure it would work and would have feld self conscious.

we used persephone hypnobirthing. And Denise was great. We paid a bit more than £300 but Denise had been doing it for a while. I would give her a call just to compnare?

willitbe so sorry for you loss

firerise I am so glad it was positive news. Fingers crossed it carries on and you will hav the all clear at the scan

Hi kitkat and Tink welcome

Can't remember who asked, but at the booking in they ask you lots of question about your medical history, you parents' etc they work out your EDD, give you advice about what to eat, book you in for the scan give you about a million leaflets

Emster30 · 14/11/2009 23:12

I had a bring your own drink event to go to tonight so I took along some non-alcoholic Cobra to a) ward off questions, though I drove anyway so it was actually more awkward anyway and b) because I fancied a beer on a Saturday night. It was HORRIBLE. It left a really nasty sweet aftertaste and wasn't like beer at all. I bought two four-packs in Sainsbury's and I think I might take the unopened one back and change it for a different brand!

WinterMadness · 15/11/2009 07:30

Morning all! Welcome to newcomers since I last posted

firerise, really pleased to hear you got good news - I'm sure everything will be fine x

I just wanted to say that darkydork and tink I think you are doing really well so far with giving up. I'm not a smoker so don't appreciate 1st hand how hard giving up is but you're doing the best thing for your family and I'm proud of ya! Keep up the good work, hopefully your dh's will follow suit too

I was 7 weeks yesterday and other than piling weight on at a ridiculous rate I have little to no symptoms, hopefully it'll stay that way! Went for a private scan and Downs/Edwards tests last time so probably will again

I have to admit, I'm starting to feel a little scared. Firstly, I had a difficult labour with ds and I'm already nervous about next time round...then ds was on neonatal and I'm scared everything will go 'wrong' again I also had postnatal depression and REALLY scared about that happening again. I want to be excited about the pregnancy but it keeps getting clouded

Sorry for going on anyway, better go and rescue ds who's getting up to mischief in the corner of the room!

TishTosh21 · 15/11/2009 09:26

Morning everyone!

Amazon wont know whats hit it darydork!
I had a ciggie this morning and feel really bad

Im going to indulge just today and give up cold turkey tomorrow. New week, new start and all that. Will also book an app with doc, i really want confirmation i am actually preg as i just dont feel it and its getting a bit worrying now. My boobs are the tiniest bit tender but apart from that i have no symptoms.

Tell me this is normal!

Wonderstuff · 15/11/2009 09:57

Hi all. Feel really rubbish today. Have a splitting headache which I've had since about lunchtime yesterday. Paracetamol says consult doctor in pregnancy, I thought it was OK? So going to do google. Also feeling nauseous. Yuck. Must try to not let it get me down. I am determind to be less miserable this time. I really am not a fan of being pregnant.

Tish - try not to beat yourself up, I know it must be really hard, every fag you're not having has got to be good right. Quite normal to not have many symptoms I think.

WinterMadness I'm sorry you are feeling scared. When you see your midwife can you go through what happened last time, might help to see that it won't always be the same? I'm really hoping that every pregnancy is different thing is true. I was so miserable last time.

Not easy this pregnancy lark is it.

NorkyButNice · 15/11/2009 10:13

Morning all

So sorry to hear your bad news willitbe.

Welcome to all newcomers - lots of lovely summer babies on the horizon

I'm feeling rotten today - pounding headache and really nauseous. Could happily stay in bed but have to do a 3 hour motorway drive instead (just what I needed!).

Firerise · 15/11/2009 10:18

Hi wonderstuff, when I spoke to doctors a couple of days ago they said parecetamol are fine in low infrequent doses as long as they don't contain anthing else like ibuprofen, asprin or caffeine.

Good luck to all those quitting, I gave up 4 years ago after smoking 20 a day for a decade and it's not easy but it really is worth it, especially now!

Anyone suffering from a random eye twitch? I have had it for days and it just bizarre!

Off to the hospital now to practice my human pincushion routine and won't get results until tomorrow!

Ps for any one missing forbidden cheese, M&S do a Brie with pasturised milk and doctor said it would be fine! Going to buy my body weight off it after blood test!

TishTosh21 · 15/11/2009 10:24

firerise i am missing the forbidden cheese so much! im a great lover of cheese, expecially soft such as brie, boursin etc i might just have to get that now!
Good luck today!

Thanks wonderstuff words of encouragement are always welcome

darydork · 15/11/2009 10:59

morning ladies,

wintermadness thank you very much for the words of encouragment, this is day 5 without a ciggie & it is getting a little bit easier tank god.. Try not to worry too much that things will go wrong again this time, i really do believe that every pregnancy is different, i had pre-eclampsia on my 1st dc from 30wks and was hospitalised from wk 33 until delivery and had a terrible labour/delivery, but absolutely SAILED through pregnancy & birth #2, so try to stay posivive

tishtosh dont beat urself up, your trying your best & thats all you can do, you sound very determined 2day that your going to kick it and i really wish you lots of luck, i know how difficult it is, we will to it together!! Im not really feeling preg either apart from tender boobs & the odd spat of quesiness, this is my 4th and never really felt preg in the early days on any of my dc's so its fairly normal, try not to worry..

firerise lots of luck for your bloods 2day

Wonderstuff · 15/11/2009 11:46

Thanks firerise. Advice on all the sites on the net seemed to be 'no evidence of any problems associated with paracetamol, but best to not take it anyway' One site (bbc) actually talked about thlamidahide (sp?) in the next sentence, another recommeded homeopathic remedies, strangely not having any research links to back up these being a better alternative. Are there any other medical conditions where they would give this advise? So anyway took some paracetamol and am feeling better. Was planning a walk as didn't leave the house yesterday, Dh has been 'just doing x first' for the last hour. Mostly housework, but also have to wait of fags to be smoked and coffee to be made. Wish he would give up smoking!

Great tip about the M&S cheese. Also Tish I'm pretty sure Boursin is fine as it is cream cheese rather than mould-ripened which is the soft cheese on the forbidden list.

TishTosh21 · 15/11/2009 13:27

oooh yay i love boursin! thats made my day so things like brie, stilton etc are def off the list.

Have i got to avoid mayonnaise does anyone know?
