Keeping everything crossed for you today firerise - hope all goes well!

NorkyButNice · 13/11/2009 10:17

Good luck firerise - hope you get some good news at the hospital today.

I just went to see my GP about pregnancy - she was great and wants to do my "booking in" appt herself (as she's managing my medications for another condition). Only problem is that she's going on holiday next week and the first time I can see her is 9th December. I'll be 9 weeks by then - isn't that a bit late?

She said our first scan (nuchal) is between 12 and 15 weeks - there's no way I could wait till 15 weeks to know if everything's OK in there!

How far gone were you all when you saw the midwife or GP for booking in? Is anyone looking into private scans?

MissWooWoo · 13/11/2009 10:29

hi norky I had an internal scan at 7 weeks with my first pregnancy but this was due to underlying medical condition and they wanted to check all was ok early.

This time round I'm probably going to have to wait the full 12 weeks because "nothing went wrong last time". Doesn't make me feel very reasured, last time was last time, this time is this time.

It's a long time to wait isn't it?

mousemole · 13/11/2009 10:32

15 weeks is such a long time to wait for a scan. The Scottish system is crazy - you only get one scan at 15 - 20 weeks and that is your nuchal fold !
I am paying £65 for a private viability scan at 8 weeks on the recommendation of the doctor - she even gave me a print out with details of where to book a private scan and said their equipment was much better than the NHS equipment anway! Strange, strange system.

violetbubbles · 13/11/2009 10:38

Hey norkybutnice

I'll be 8 weeks on Monday so I phoned the local antenatal clinic today to chase my 'booking-in' appointment. She said they don't do that in Glasgow - not unless you're having problems. She told me that the first appointment I'll have is for my scan - which can happen anytime between 12-16 weeks; they'll take my blood etc at that appointment, not before! Turns out I hadn't picked the Dr up wrong earlier in the week!!! 12-16 weeks for a first scan is apparently, quite normal up here!

She also informed me that they hadn't received a letter through from my Dr yet - she said this was strange as they should all communicate electronically so an e-mail should have been sent instantly. She recommended I chase with my GP surgery. Turns out my letter is in the box for the typist at the surgery to type up. The TYPIST! What century are we living in??? Anyway, I've alerted the receptionist to the fact that the clinic have not received anything from them yet so hopefully she'll hurry things along.

In the meantime, I've booked in for a private scan next Friday. I just have this feeling that I should get everything checked out. And there's no way I can wait until after Xmas for a first appointment!

Sorry if this has turned into a bit of rant - blame the hormones! .

NorkyButNice · 13/11/2009 11:02

How did you choose which clinic to go to for a private scan? I don't think my GP will be giving me a list to choose from!

I'd like to have a scan before Xmas so we're confident about telling people knowing that everything is OK.

Champagneforlunch · 13/11/2009 11:03

Still little to no symptoms here still trying to think that is good,I hated MS the last couple of times. In the past I've had to do the constant eating diet to keep the nausea at bay but don't even fee like eating at the moment. Saw GP yesterday who advised to contact EPU to see if they will give me a reassurance scan due to my history but they aren't answering there phone today.

Don't know where you are in scotland mousemoles but in Dundee you get two scans, thought only one of the glasgow districts still only offered one scan, there was something last year where the health secretary made some promise that everyone would get two. You don't tend to get a seperate booking in appointment here they just do it at the same time as the first 12 week scan although think they are trying to change that here and now want you to book with the community midwife at the surgery.

violetbubbles · 13/11/2009 11:25

We checked out a few online and decided on this place for a private scan:

www.babyscanning.co.uk/

Hope you manage to get through to the EPU today champagneforlunch - and that they are able to offer you the reassurance you need!

Champagneforlunch · 13/11/2009 11:48

Got a hold of them at last think the switchboard woman was getting a little bored of me phoning every ten minutes(it fet like it anyway) scan arranged for 1st December so should be about eight weeks.

darydork · 13/11/2009 13:02

hi ladies, hope you dont mind me butting in like this, ive just found out im pg and due july 22nd, this will be my 4th dc yikes.. would love to join in the chat

irishfairy are you living in ireland?

Irishfairy · 13/11/2009 13:20

Congratulations darydork and welcome... your 4th wow!

I am Irish, from Co. Kildare originally, but actually been living in Oxfordshire for the past 2 years... are you in Ireland yourself?

GibberingGinger · 13/11/2009 13:28

Hi everyone,

I'm on the June thread but know from family history that its very likely that I'll be way overdue and have a July baby so thought I'd pop in a say hi! Bit like MrsDmamee. It's lovely to see such a nice long list of you. I'll keep an eye on the thread and pop in and say hello occasionally. Might need you all for company once everyone on the June list has popped and is no longer posting due to having timeconsuming newborn on their hands! Though that is months away yet!

Mousemole I think it depends on where you are in Scotland how many scans you get. I know that Edinburgh and Inverness just do one at supposedly 12 weeks, but often later due to them being too busy. Aberdeen does 12week and 20 week but refuse to tell you the sex at the 20 week scan even if its blatently obvious . And Dundee do 12 and 20 week scans.

BettyButterknife · 13/11/2009 13:37

Hi Ginger

That's a bit that they won't tell you the sex... how come?

Is anyone planning to find out what they're having? I didn't last time, and am undecided this time. It all feels slightly less romantic anyway, second time round, and I suppose it would make practical sense to find out. But I'm really not sure.

NorkyButNice · 13/11/2009 13:52

We found out the sex last time but I think this time we'll keep it as an extra surprise on the day

I've just spoken to a local scanning place and they can fit me in when I'm either 7 or 9 weeks. Am tempted to go for 7 weeks because it's closer, but then I guess at 9 weeks we'll be able to see more.

Welcome darydork - I hope you enjoy the next 8 months!

darydork · 13/11/2009 14:04

hi thank u for the welcome, ya this will be #4 for us, i was sooo shur i was finished after #3 who is 2 next week but i started to get really broody again & threw caution to the wind and went for it, im very happy & excited but im also anxious & nervous about how i will cope with 4 dc's but anyway thats prob for another thread..

Im irish too, living in Arklow in Co.Wicklow, your name caught my eye, i dont think there are many irish coleens on mumsnet.. do you get home often?

How are you feeling, will this be ur 1st?

lazyemma · 13/11/2009 14:14

I'm near Dundee, so relieved to hear I'll be getting two scans. Just got one in Glasgow at 12 weeks, and it wasn't a nuchal fold one either.

Betty, I'm undecided too about finding out the sex (if I get the chance, touch wood touch wood - feeling v. superstitious still). I didn't last time, and I loved the surprise of my daughter when she was born, after spending my whole pregnancy assuming she was a boy. This time I'm genuinely not fussed if I have a girl or a boy but somehow that makes me more inclined to find out earlier.

Re: boozing discussions - This time I've found the not drinking thing much easier, mainly because I am a boring fart and don't go out very much. Which means my next boozy social occasion involving anyone other than husband/family/best friends is the work Christmas do, and they'll all know by then (assuming I'm still pregnant, touch wood touch wood). Last time I missed booze so much, as it was such a big part of my leisure/social time. I also discovered drunk people are really dull when you're not pissed so I rarely went out, apart from to gigs and stuff.

My Omega 3 algae tablets arrived this morning. Yummeh! Good job I don't have morning sickness really. What else. Oh, my tits feel much less sore today. I don't feel pregnant at all really, but trying not to think/worry about it too much.

Good luck to firerise for today, and for champagneforlunch at the EPU.

Not sure why Aberdeen don't tell you the sex. It was one of my friends up there and she didn't ask. Possibly the hospital has got it wrong in the past and had their fingers burnt? Who knows.

givecarrotsachance · 13/11/2009 15:36

Hi,

I've got my BFP today which I am absolutely over the moon about. So I thought I'd come over and say hi!

waves at Casper

CurlyCasper · 13/11/2009 16:43

Hi rotty. Hope you're going to behave yourself here

iggypiggy · 13/11/2009 16:43

Been havering about posting on here

My last attempt ended in a MC at 10weeks - so obviously bricking it.

But anyway - i have decided to come and join you lot - even if it turns out that it isn't for long.

Got BFP yesterday - think am due on 19th, 20th or 22nd july depending which calculator i use!

also saw caspar and carrots are here already {grin} which helped lure me in!

CurlyCasper · 13/11/2009 16:46

rots you'll love it here - they do lists! (If you tell them your age, where you are from and your EDD)

CurlyCasper · 13/11/2009 16:56

Can I ask when you all plan to tell general friends and family (not the close ones, the blabbers!) about your pregnancy?

I had always thought I'd stick to the 12-week thing, but I'll be 10 weeks at Christmas and I would like to announce it while we are with my other half's family. I'm even considering paying for a private reassurance/dating scan so that I a) know there is a heartbeat and all is ok and b) have some pictures to show.

All thoughts/experiences on when to tell and private scans most welcome, please

Firerise · 13/11/2009 17:00

Waiting for my call, could be anytime from now til 7.30 and totally bricking it! Plus only just clicked it is Friday 13th!! Maybe that will be lucky!

Deep breaths!

givecarrotsachance · 13/11/2009 17:13

Hey iggy

Now now cassie, don't make out that I'm a stats-fiend just from one tiny little tiny one-off suggestion . Cheeky mare. followed by severe chinese burn.

To answer your question, I've booked a meal with my parents tomorrow and will tell them, but noone else until we've gone past the initial chemical pregnancy possible time. Then maybe one or two close friends but not YOB's family until we get to the scan, probably. Given his possible genetic problems we really need to ensure all is well. On the other hand we've gone back today to push them forward with the genetic testing which they said they would fast track if I got pregnant.

He was so funny on the phone to the docs. "We were trying for a baby and were told that if we got pregnant we could fast-track the test. Well, er, my wife, seems to be, might be, well I think she's pregnant!".

Yes honey, I'm pregnant. How did that happen?

He doesn't trust the ebay sticks at all, even though I've tried to explain that a line is a line is a line (it's very light, all three of them ). I bought a CBD which he's put in the safe (I don't have the combination!) for tomorrow morning!
