Morning all! Sounds like there's quite a few of us worried about MCing, but hopefully they'll prove to be unfounded. It's nice there's a place like this where we can voice our fears amongst like minded individuals and all support one another in these first few weeks.

I took another test this morning (I might be just a touch paranoid. ) using FMU and another FR and this time the positive line popped up before the control line and they ended up equally as strong as one another. ... I'm hoping that's a good sign, so I've tentatively made a first appointment with the MW for two weeks time.

It's weird... AF is only due today, is it usual to have such a strong positive so early? Especially given that I'm sure I ovulated late!

I'm hoping to convince the MW to let me have a scan before Christmas, given that I had an early MC a couple of months ago, but we'll see how well that goes. I have a feeling I'll get told where I can shove that idea-!

Sorry Firerise, I haven't any experience with ectopics so can't really help. Aside from saying my left shoulder has been aching a touch too, but that's pretty normal for me and due entirely to the way I hunch over my desk at work. I'm guessing if it's really painful and not easing off, then maybe try getting a doctor's appointment?

Violetbubbles, given that this is my first I've not had any experience with the EPU or making appointments for scans yet, but maybe it's best to wait a touch before booking a private scan as they might be able to fit you in ok at 12 weeks? You could always phone them up and ask them how busy they currently are, what the waiting times are for scans, maybe?

Sorry that some of you are feeling so rough, hopefully it'll ease off soon! Probably annoyingly, I seem to be fine here, thus far. My chest is still a bit sore if I press on it or tackle stairs at speed, but no MS yet that I've noticed. Though I expect it'll catch up with me sooner or later!

Still more hungry, thirsty and tired than I'd usually expect, and I'm starting to notice too that I'm craving spicy food. But then I usually like spicy food so maybe that's not so surprising! Not noticed any particular aversions to food, yet...

Currently though, I'm starving! Breakfast time here at my desk.

yesway · 11/11/2009 09:32

Firerise - the shoulder pain you get with an ectopic is right a the tip of your shoulder and would be aggravated by lying down. the ectopic pregnancy trust website is a good place to read more.

Violetbubbles - if I were you I'd book a private scan now - you can always cancel it if the NHS comes up with the goods. One of the reasons for having a 12 week scan is to check for Down's or other chormosomal abnormalities by looking at the thickness of the back of the neck. This test is only valid between 11 and 13 weeks so it's a bit pointless having a 14 week scan from that point of view.
I have had private scans with all 3 of mine and had extra bloods tests done at the same time. I thought it was well worth the money for my peace of mind. Plus the scanning equipment was way better than one of my nhs scans and I didn't get and NHS scan until 14 weeks for my last baby. The down side is that having done it with number one I now feel committed to doing it with all of them! I am booked in for a private scan on New Year's Eve - which has put my mind at rest as I think I will struggle to get an NHS scan in the right time frame as it is Christmas week.

randomama · 11/11/2009 09:53

morning ladies,

hope everyone's feeling ok. Fireise if you are worried, do go to the doctor. I had an ectopic many years ago - not in the tube, the pregnancy had implanted on the IUD I'd had fitted as a late contraceptive device and was continuing to grow. It was incredibly painful in my abdomen and I bled constantly and heavily throughout the pregnancy, I don't remember any shoulder pain but maybe that's something to do with the fallopian tube ectopics specifically? Anyway, if you are worried I would defo get to a doctors. good luck.

flowerbee hope your sickness improves soon

I'm feeling less angry with the world today. still anxious wth every twinge and I've been having lots of pain in my right lower abdomen, which has been making me a bit worried - I had PID after my last pregnancy which was undetected for 21 months so I'm a bit uber-aware of any pain. it only seems to happen early evening though so am going to assume it's just my body saying "put your feet up"

Champagneforlunch · 11/11/2009 09:58

Firerise I'd speak to the doctor, if nothing else they will hopefully send you for a scan to rule out ectopic and hopefully reduce your worrying.
Meant to make Drs appointment this morning but slept in and they only do on the day appointments at the moment. Won't be able to go till next week now as dd1 off school and don't won't to have to drag both of them with me.
I've had both 12 and 20 week scans with both babies but do know there are still a couple of healths trusts in scotland that up until last year only offered the 12 week scan. I also ended up with early scans at the epu with both of them due to pain and bleeding and both times was refered to them through the gp.
Got to go shopping today for Dd1s birthday present and its raining, I just want to go back to bed. Oh well, hope everyone has a good day.

WickedWitchSouthWest · 11/11/2009 10:16

morning all!

firerise I'd speak to the gp or mw personally. They won't take any chances with a suspected ectopic and an early scan will make you feel much better. Please let us know how you get on

spirael I had very strong positive the week before my period was due so yes, a strong bfp early is possible! But quite freaky really.

violet I'm amazed you won't get an early scan, surely that's the important one to make sure the neural tube is closed and everything is in the right place? Have you seen your mw yet? I'd ask her if the gp is right or not but it seems bizarre!

Very dizzy again, but not as nauseous, thank god! Just going to take it easy today.

Hopefully a better day. Hope everyone is ok

violetbubbles · 11/11/2009 10:52

Hey everyone - thanks for the responses!

MumfieMagic - I'd be interested to hear your GPs thoughts about the private scan so please do let me know!

I am starting to wonder if, in my current dazed and confused state, I might have interpreted what the doctor was saying wrongly! . Although, I'm sure he was implying that I might have to wait longer than 12 weeks for my first scan....hmmmmm

I'm like you GibbonInARibbon, a 'born worrier' so perhaps a scan would put my mind at rest. I'm obsessed about MCing - I know I shouldn't be but I can't help it!

You talk a lot of sense Spirael but I think I might do what yesway has suggested - phone and book a private scan for my 12th week. At least it'll be in the diary if the NHS are unable to offer me an appointment until after the New Year.

WickedWitchSouthWest - I'm seven weeks at the moment so hoping to get an appointment card through for an antenatal session with a MW any day now.

firerise - hope all is well at your end!

And in other news - I have finally found some stuff that I can stomach at the moment:

Ritz crackers
Boiled potatoes with grated cheddar cheese on top
Home made scones - dry, no butter or jam (made them at 6.15am this morning when I couldn't get back to sleep)!
Fresh orange juice

I've never been one for bland food, but this pregnancy is doing funny things to my body and mind...

WickedWitchSouthWest · 11/11/2009 11:11

oo I'm on the plain digestives and tropical flavour barley water lol.

Just fainted in the garage which was a bit stupid so trying to get my head right again so I can get on. Gah.

Firerise · 11/11/2009 12:36

Hello, thanks for all of your messages, I really apprieciate it.

I went to my gp who promptly got me an emergency appointment this morning with a consultant at the early preg assesment unit. Had an internal scan which couldn't see anything either in or out of the uterus so they took a load of blood so waiting for results from that tonight then more blood tests on Friday to check the hcg levels are doing what they should do for a normal pregnancy. I really hope everything is ok, I have felt sick with worry all day. Exhausted now.

violetbubbles · 11/11/2009 12:47

Hi firerise - I'm glad that you went to see your GP this morning. Sounds like you're getting the full early pregnancy MOT, which is a good thing! No wonder you're exhausted! I hope that you're able to put your feet up and watch some daytime TV or an old movie for the next few hours. Sending you lots of positive vibes (and virtual hugs)!

yesway · 11/11/2009 12:51

has anyone on here who has seen their GP been offered a swine flu jab?
I have just been reading about it and we all ought to be offered it...

MelissaM · 11/11/2009 16:17

yesway - I think you get offered the flu jab in 3rd trimester (or article i read suggested that)

firerise - glad you got to see GP. Hope everything goes ok on friday.

haven't had any ms yet - was v sick with DD. Here's hoping it stays this way.

I think you get a 12 wk and 20 wk scan here. It changed when I was pg with dd. Then you only got 1 scan at 20 wks, so we paid for a private scan (11 1/2 wks) so that we knew everything was ok when we told everyone the news.

Will consider booking an earlier private scan again as much better pictures (included in the price too not like our NHS ones)

Glad you saw the gp firerise. Something similar happened with Dd2 the first scan at epu showed nothing and had to wait five days for the resuts of the blood tests (stupid bank holiday weekend) but next scan five days later showed a sac. She seemed to be smaller than the dates suggested but she caught up and by her 12 week scan was just right for her dates and she is very much here now blowing raspberries at the pc. I really hope everything goes as well for you.
One thing I shouldn't have to worry about is the swine flu jab as kind Dd2 gave it to me the other week.
Went to get folic acid today to find the two huge tescos near by don't sell it only fancy multi vit things that cost about £10, will have to try chemists tomorrow.

MissWooWoo · 11/11/2009 16:54

Hi

can I join? did a test on sunday and HOORAH it was positive.

I know exactly when I conceived as only had sex once last month - 22nd Oct - so by my reckoning that puts me at 13th July?

Am 38, 39 next month and this will be child number 2.

Only mild sypmtoms so far but is very early days for me.

Off to see the dr on monday.

MumfieMagic · 11/11/2009 16:54

Hey, have just changed my due date as it was wrong according to GP. Violetbubbles spoke to GP about private scan and he said (his words) 'that's outrageous' so i'm guessing at the very least you should be able to have a scan before or at 12 weeks, hope that helps.

Burst into tears in GP's office, SO embarassing. He asked how I was feeling and my only response was 'utterly terrified!' He said 10 weeks after a mc it's to be expected. He also said that, in the first trimester, if you are going to mc it is most common around 6-7 weeks so i'm almost past it (almost up to where I got last time) and i'm sending positive vibes to all those approaching it.

Now gotta wait 2 days before the mw calls me back to arrange my booking appt. What happens at that appt, anything reassuring by any chance???

lazyemma · 11/11/2009 18:10

hello everyone! Sorry to hear about your worrying day, firerise. I really hope everything is OK.

I haven't gone to see my GP yet - I'm feeling weirdly superstitious about doing anything definitive about this pregnancy yet just in case something goes wrong. So far all I've done is stop the booze and consequently the social fags, start my folic acid, cut way back on the coffee and have ordered some vegetarian Omega 3 supplements on the internet (as I'm veggie, can't eat fish oils).

I've been a bit perturbed by my not very F BFPs - the two more recent ones (Thursday and Sunday) have been obviously there, but not nearly so dark as the last time I was preg, and seemed to take longer to show up. But I'm reassured that I first tested when I was at least 5 weeks preg last time - 4 weeks this time. I've also reassured myself by doing a search on my old posts on mumsnet from the last time I was a preggo - and I didn't have many symptoms then either, so that's a relief. Boobs a bit bigger, one of them quite sore. Tired in the afternoons and going to bed early. That's it. I hate the uncertainty of these early weeks - I wish there was a little window I could look through to see what's going on in there.

WickedWitchSouthWest · 11/11/2009 19:05

evening all

firerise gosh what a day. Fingers crossed all is well in there - when do you get your results? Yay to your gp for acting so brilliantly too.

mumfie you've got a good gp too! Excellent

helloo to misswoowoo (once only!! crikey! we've been at it constantly for 7 months!) and curly! So nice to see another familar name . Congratulations ladies.

lazyemma lol at the little window! Wasn't it someone on the June bus who said that there should be some instant sign that you are pg like a light on your tummy or something lol.

Well I'm madly overexcited through the exhaustion - my scan appointment came though today - 7 December at 9 sodding am. Argh. Means leaving the house at 7:30am this is scary since this is the time I normally wake up now! Mum will come over and sort dd out for pre school luckily and as it's early dh should be able to wangle being at home to come too. That same morning I have the main booking in too so busy day. I'll be 10 weeks so should be lots to see. Funny enough my scan with dd was 9 wks 6 days

Emster30 · 11/11/2009 19:08

Urgh nausea! It only goes away when I eat something. It's not too too bad just now but I hope it doesn't get too much worse. Plus I'm farting like a trooper.

GhoulsAreLoud · 11/11/2009 19:15

Hi all, congratulations to all the new people!

Wickedwith, that's great about your scan date.

I've got the morning of 22nd December, which is perfect timing as DH and I are both off for xmas that day and we're travelling to spend xmas with my family the following day so if it'd been any later that week it would have been a problem.

Think I might put a copy of the scan photo in a xmas card for Mum and Dad to tell them about this baby as we're going to wait til after the scan.

WickedWitchSouthWest · 11/11/2009 20:09

oh ghouls that's a great idea

emster the nausea is a nightmare isn't it? Just keep eating! I'm relying on plain digestive biscuits to keep me going!

Firerise · 11/11/2009 20:33

I have just had a call from the hospital to say they were concerned because my hcg level was v low - 93. She said they didn't see what they expected to from the scan. I'm nearly 5 weeks so shouldn't they be able to see something with an internal scan and what is an ok level for hcg? Can't stop crying...so worried now. Just have to hang on to Friday to see what next blood test shows.

Heated · 11/11/2009 20:38

Has everyone booked in with their mw or gp yet?

Haven't done it yet, just in case. Probably won't book in until week 7 or 8 like last time. Silly reasoning perhaps, but filling in all those forms and booking a scan makes it all the more real. Plus then the time waiting for the scan isn't quite so long!

In fact completely forgot I was pg today; only keep remembering when dh gives me a pleased hug
