katster37 · 25/10/2009 17:11

Oh no, Laugs! Are you ok? Just hormonal stuff? I say 'just', you know what I mean!

Sorry for going AWOL. Had such a stressful time at work, and can't believe I have said I will do another two weeks! ALthough one of them (next week) is half term, so that doesn't really count, but still. Will be 38+1 when I finish - yuck.

Just done a big online shop and ordered a ton of easy meals for the freezer and things like fresh ravioli and pasta sauces. Hoping that's not too ambitious?!?! Surely we will be able to prepare something, and they only take two minutes! I am seriously getting scared by the newborn phase - I am expecting to get bowled over and for it to be mad, but slightly scared I will just NOT HAVE A CLUE, and end up a wailing wreck wondering what on earth I have done!!

And to those talking about appetite - mine gone too. If I eat more than a mouthful, I feel like I have eaten a horse. Which is probably good as I really look decidedly porky these last few weeks. Not good.

BeckyBendyLegs · 25/10/2009 17:11

Katster I am 37 weeks... why is everything so hard to cope with right now?

Western poor you. There's a lot of bugs, stomachy ones, going around here too at the moment.

I definitely feel it in the air!

Fruitpastels · 25/10/2009 17:13

Weston Hope you feel much better tomorrow.
Katster I'm due on the 4th Nov. Was a couple of days early with DS so I'm holding out some hope it will be this week. Not felt myself today, but the lack of sleep probably is the cause. I just can't get comfortable anymore. The end is in sight for us all!!

LissyGlitter · 25/10/2009 17:20

Hiya everyone! Sorry, no baby to add over here, just had a busy weekend.

My parents came on Friday, brought me pies and took me for a wander round IKEA and the metrocentre, then we got takeaway and sat up late talking bollocks while the non-pregnant ones got tipsy and I laughed at them

Saturday, they took DD off to Preston for a holiday for a few days, and me and DP went into Newcastle. We had sushi and wandered around some shops, stopping off regularly for hot chocolate and so on. Then we went for a meal and to a comedy club, where every single act had something to say about us (I think it was a combination of DP looking like he would join in banter and me looking massively pregnant). The last act was a bit rubbish (just going for the laughing at the idea of somebody getting stoned or being gay, and still stuck on making jokes about americans being fat and so on) but the others were ace. Felt like we were on a proper date, and DP was nothing but lovely all day, buying me presents and telling me I looked lovely and so on

Today, we have spent most of the day in bed, reading the sunday papers, eating chocolate and cake, cuddling, chatting, now we are sat playing on our computers and DP is making me some pie and pop.

Plus, as an added bonus, my stupid trapped nerve seems to have mended, so i now just feel normally pregnant - ie a bit achy and tired, but not actually in agony. Which is ace.

Consultant tomorrow, to hopefully set a date for the section, then DD comes back on Tuesday, and I'm taking her for her first ever trip to the pictures, to a lovely small cinema to watch fantastic mr fox, on Wednesday. Ace.

Still getting loads of BH, but only the odd painful one, although baby is definitely well down in my pelvis, I can kind of feel the head, it is a very weird feeling. I never got this with DD, as it turned out she was breech, but this one feels like she could just fall out at any moment...if only it was that easy!

Comma2 · 25/10/2009 17:36

Hi,

just checking in.

Agree with the weepiness and hormones- had to work really hard today in supermarket to hold tears back because somebody cut in line in front of me.
Once I succeeded I went the other way and really wanted to chop everybody's heads off.

Hope everybody else is managing a bit better!

Katster it really is not that bad. It was v. nice snuggling the little bean bag, just exchausting to get up at night. And I just threw the last of the frozen food from back then out, because cooking was fine. If you have a wrap or sling you can really do a lot with babster snuggling up to you.

ErikaMaye · 25/10/2009 17:44

Yup weepy here today too. 37 weeks tomorrow.

Might I just say - I'm sick of bloody BHs / contractions that aren't doing anything. I think my belly had been tight and painful all bloody day grumble

katster37 · 25/10/2009 17:55

Comma Thanks for that post. Really reassuring. We have a baby carrier. Can't decide whether to get a sling as well. I think people revel in telling you how absolutely blinking awful life is going to be sometimes! Either on the whole labour side of things, or what's to come afterwards!

Lissy - fantastic mr fox is meant to be lovely, am sure your DD will love it. My class of year 1s are v excited about it! Your Sunday sounds fab. I have just done a round of floor scrubbing - not through manic cleanliness or anything, but to try and persuade my darling baby to shift itself round! DOn't think it's worked though! Did any of you non-firsttimers have back-toback labours previously, by the way?

BeckyBendyLegs · 25/10/2009 17:56

Oh Erika nearly there! Hang on in there.

BeckyBendyLegs · 25/10/2009 17:58

I think we need to get out that very, very large sofa again and all sit on it together feeling sorry for ourselves eating ice-cream / chocolate oranage / cookies / sugar-less biscuits or whatever you fancy. I suggest a really weepy film to watch too.

Comma2 · 25/10/2009 18:41

Ooooh, Becky, sounds good!

Katster the two things that made my life easier were a sling or wrap (if baby doesn't like the carrier) and bf lying on my side instead of siting up.

PootleTheFlump · 25/10/2009 19:27

Katster, I have bought lots of fresh freezable pasta & some jars of sauce eg pesto, loads of frozen veg, and frozen some tubs of soup. Also bought quite a few part-baked rolls to go with soup or to make sandwiches etc. I figured we must get the time to put on a pan of water and then drain it again if nothing else!!! Have also arranged milkman milk to start being delivered (been meaning to do it for ages) from this week so tea will always be a possibility, even if I never get out of the house!! I am hoping this siege mentality will all have been an overreaction, but if it all comes true, at least we'll be prepared!!

Comma, my mum has bought me a Moby wrap but I haven't had a chance to practice or look at it properly. Is that the kind of thing you mean? She said she wished she had just strapped us to her and got on rather than putting us down and worrying about us crying, or sitting with us and not even getting a drink!!

Just think, this time in just a few weeks.....

Sorry, my first ever double-post - silly wireless!

sleeplessinthecity · 25/10/2009 19:35

Happy birthday ninja...Hope it was a memorable one.

Laugs cheer up..and that goes for all of you!!!! its a tough time but we have to be smiley... although I know its hard.Especially now that the clocks have gone back and its terribly dark

Katster you'll be fine....hope you don't get too exhausted tho..look after yourself. Take a break..you'll reflect on this time of freedom with fondness..

Trying to locate some raspberry leaf tea...want to deliver soon too!!!

Comma2 · 25/10/2009 19:53

nija Happy birthday!

Pootle yes, I got a moby wrap this time too, I think they are better than slings for newborns. Do you have an instruction leaflet? Otherwise you can search the web, there are videos on how to use it on youtube eg. With DD I used a sling, which was great once she was big enough for it. Also it's worth to get a sling that is comfy for you.

beepbeep · 25/10/2009 20:19

Feeling really - my back is killing me, am currently sat with a hot water bottle against it this does seem to ease it a bit and then it's like having hot pokers in it again - aagh!

On the plus side have jus about finished wrapping christmas presents now and am storing them all under the cot in the nursery! Think I have 3 more presents left to buy than all done, yipee!

Pootle - it apparently has to be fresh pineapple, I ate quite abit with my last too and was early both time and short & sweet labours - not sure if it had anything t do with pineapple mind!! Have never taken the raspberry leaf tea. Am travelling up to parents (200miles away) on thurs and won't be returning until nearly 38 wks so prob won't buy a pineaple til I get back!! (DH isn't coming with me and despite wanting this thing out I would rather be a home and have him there!)

I used a wrap with DS and it was great, had loads of stuff in the freezer food wise, but wrap did enable me to do quite a bit of stuff, esecially as he had silent reflux and just screamed if he was put down -it was a life saver and has already been washed ready for this one!

Had a lovely evening laid out on sofa with my hot water bottle being crawled all over by a very cute DS whilst watching 'the fishes' (Finding Nemo) with DD and DH. It's the first film we've bought DD and i'm really surprised that she has the attention span to sit through it (she's 3 next month) but she's watched it 4 or 5 time in the last week! Maybe she could manage a cinema film (however not sure i can sit for that long at the mmoment).

Can't believe you're all talking about ice cream - I REALLY want some now!

LissyGlitter · 25/10/2009 20:28

beepbeep my sister watched finding nemo with DD at 2.5, and she spent the entire time asking "where's nemo gone?", with my sister trying to explain that was the point of the film!

hobnob57 · 25/10/2009 20:50

I have promptly forgotten all your posts but so sorry to hear of all the hormonal heartache going on. I really hope it resolves itself or baby comes to ease things a bit. I seem to be escaping the hormonal irrationality, but I think I got my dose of it earlier on in the pg! I do feel more prone to snapping at DD, but tend to find that's on days when I'm feeling under par (or needing a poo ).

katster good move filling that freezer, and venus thanks for your ideas on how to do so - it's something we haven't got around to doing. I would especially recommend full freezers after CS or with reflux babies, neither of which is predictable so best be prepared! Try not to be scared of the newborn phase, but do be prepared to be a hormonal wreck of an entirely different kind. It takes you unawares until you work out what is going on. So many big changes all at once to your previously predictable body!

DD loves Nemo too (she's nearly 3) and has just discovered the Jungle Book. I've tried to steer clear of TV and DVDs but it's all gone to pot this pg and she's an addict now. Doesn't help with this weather - yet ANOTHER day of wind and rain in Aberdeen today. I'm wondering now with the clocks turned back if I'll ever see the light of day again! Wake me up in March...

All my lovely huge BHs have disappeared and I think that LO is lying almost transverse today like a dead weight . My mum did cheer me up today by telling me that with my sister (her 2nd pg) she actually lost her mucus plug, but they took her in for a c-section at 39 weeks because nothing came of it. At least there's some family history of SOMETHING happening

I went to the shop yesterday to get a punnet of tomatoes and came back with an apple pie and carton of custard as well . DH doesn't 'do' fruit, so DD and I have been ploughing through it bravely, but I definitely have eyes bigger than my stomach now. It's going to take us 3 nights to get through it where previously just the knowledge that it was there would be enough to condemn it to the pregnant waster disposal unit that was my appetite in one evening! It is yummy though.

katster37 · 25/10/2009 21:07

Some good tips Pottle - have been saving those plastic soup cartons for the last couple of weeks and was hopin I might make a few batches tomorrow to whack in the freezer. Will def get some part-baked rolls - what a good idea! Also, is it ridiculous to freeze milk do you think? I don't like UHT!

BeepBeep I thought mine had gone transverse yesterday. It feels too soft at the top of bump, and then v wide. And like there is a bum sticking out of my side!! I know I have asked this before, but can you tell me which sling you used? I think I am going to get one. Liked the look of the Kari-Me ones (I think) but not sure.

Am so happy I don't have to go to work tomorrow.

claired21 · 25/10/2009 21:16

Can we add the arrivals to our Monday list? Can someone help...?

Lemontop: Isaac, Wed September 30th
Broodzilla: Lukas, Wed October 7th
Tamlin/Trikken (or even someone else? Stupid preg brain): Felix?, Sunday October 18th

Hope I'm nearly right!

Comma2 · 25/10/2009 21:26

Well, I put a few pizzas into the oven....

Gosh, the thought that DD2 may not be the easy little sausage that DD1 was hasn't really crossed my mind. Better hope for the best. My sister had a colicky baby and DAM*!
Also have been reading horror thread on 3rd degree tears etc, which was prob not the best move ever.

Right there with you hobnob ! All lovely if painful signs yesterday have gone out of the window and have gone from practically in early labor into practically nothing. LOL at your mom!

Lissy that's so cute! Oooh.

beepbeep sorry about the back! and well done with the xmas presents. We never 'do' real presents, just a little surprise thingy, so I usually just go to the drugstore and get some little things Last time I gave DH a huge chocolate Penguin and he liked it, but then DD and I ate it all. Oh well. But was fair given that he hadn't gotten me anything at all.

Comma2 · 25/10/2009 21:27

Didn't mean oven, meant freezer. Hmm, time for dinner...

BeckyBendyLegs · 25/10/2009 21:32

Comma I had a third degree tear with DS1 and I'm still here and I'm not incontinent or anything like that. Don't worry

Off to bed now with my book (John Irving's newest one). Bliss. Nighty night zzz

Laugs · 25/10/2009 21:35

katster and sleepless I'm ok thanks, just very hormonal and tired I think. I'm still working, trying to work at the moment actually, and recovering from a cold. I've cried again . DH tells me I was like this last time, and then as soon as DD was born I got all depressed that I wasn't pregnant any more.

hobnob / katster I thought mine was traverse too, as I was being kicked loads in the side, but the midwife said it was head down, then bent around, so the bum sticks out the right-hand side, legs go under my ribs and the feet kick me on the left. For some reason I thought if its head was down, it would just be lying straight down, like an arrow ready to shoot out!

I wouldn't worry overly about preparing food. I have done some frozen stuff this time as DH gets in v. late from college twice a week, but last time I didn't have anything prepared and I never remember us not managing to eat. Newborns actually sleep quite a lot! I do remember though that I never managed to finish a cup of tea before I went back to work. It was an amazing luxury going back to work and drinking full cups of hot tea. That was probably the best thing about it though

Laugs · 25/10/2009 21:44

Ooh like the idea of the giant sofa too. If Kyte or anyone else would like to bring some of her cookies, I'd be delighted to try them. Same goes to hobnob and her left over apple pie: send it this way! I'm not even normally bothered about sweet food, but I can't get enough of it now. I've become a right girl.
