Lottie, hope you're ok.

We've bought a cot for the baby's room next to ours, our bedroom is too small to put a proper sized cot in unless I put it next to the radiator (not a good plan) so that was that decision made for us! Was going to get a moses basket for first few weeks next to our bed, but just thinking, would the carry cot from the pram/buggy work?

anyway - being kicked a lot and needing to wee far too much at the mo.

Stupid question, but how do you know where your baby is??? I've no idea what position the baby is in. Seeing midwife on Monday and hopefully she'll tell me...

Partyofsixsoontobeseven · 20/11/2009 14:36

Hey london you really are milking this pregnancy lark aren't you lol. shiny helicopter ambulances etc.

Are they going to deliver the girls at 35 weeks, how long to go??

Hmmm brownies sockmonkey

I've been getting really strong BH's when my tummy goes really hard, more uncomfortable than painful though, have had to stop what i'm doing sometimes and catch my breath

I'm with you yangy i usually end up with a 7yr old in the bottom and a 6yr old in the top of the bed so theres going to be no room for new baby, or dh will have to sleep on the sofa for a while.

Partyofsixsoontobeseven · 20/11/2009 14:44

I'll try and find the thread for you yangy in a bit. It was about her dh not being a real man because he didn't like to touch her bump amd because someone else didn't want to breast feed and mentioned that her breast were her dhs toys (joking i think) but every one went a little crazy.

My dh has never in all my pg been hands on the bump, the thought of a small person growing and moving inside me makes him ill, He is a very squemish person anyway but I have always known this and it really doesn't bother me. Once babys here he is really hands on and will do anything.

Gotta go and take small dc's to swimming lesson now so will check in later.

Hope your ok bethoo

CantThinkofFunnyName · 20/11/2009 14:53

Lottie - OMG, what drama!! You must be going spare though, particularly as your DH cannot possibly keep doing the long trip. Thank god for wireless cards hey!!

Partyofsix - I won't be BF! Prepared to be lynched... not sure it can happen (pretty sure it can't) due to breast reduction a few years ago - but even if I could, I don't want them increasing in size to anything like they were before (selfish selfish selfish) .

devotion · 20/11/2009 16:12

CantThinkofFunnyName - shame on you grin]... only joking!

I like to think of us bunch here as open minded and each to their own. No lynching allowed for feeding/discipline/routine choices etc allowed!

When I had my first baby I was much more opinionated about everything to do with babies and children but I was lot younger and I like to think I have matured and become more open minded over the years and the experience of dealing my with children and watching friends with their kids. We all have out own ways that work just for us.

I had some blazing rows on here years ago and I am am so embarassed when I read them now, some of the things I said to other mums was terrible hence the name changes many times

Lottie - i hope the trip did not stress you out being on a helicopter and what great weights they are already!!! Annoying about the trip your dh has to make but it sounds like you are really being looked after well so thats whats important. Take care of yourself - exciting you will meet them soon

For mums talking about cots that attach to your bed, check the link out below. I've already begged dh for one but he said no ... they do cost about £200 but I love the design and it just makes sense when bf babies, you dont even have to get up then... I am so lazy!

sockmonkey · 20/11/2009 16:36

Lottie!! Flippin eck. Hope you are doing better.

Re: bedroom. I had a swing crib next to the bed.(we had a high sleeper... great fun climbing up & down ladder for feeds!) Kept a plastic changing mat underneith it and changed nappies on the floor. Tended to do it by lamp/nightlight.
I think DS1 would still be in our room if it'd been left up to me, but DH insisted he moved out at about 9 months, once he started to sleep a bit better.

Mama2b5 · 20/11/2009 16:39

so thankful this convo has changed to "baby talk" and how im now thinking soon "ours" babies will all be here!
was out today with DH and he wanted to buy some baby stuff talked him into leaving it till next month phew! but then decided to buy some christmas presents instead!decided that im only getting family stuff cant afford to buy gifts for all the children in our families!
im also concerned about where baby stuff will go before the boys came the room was ideal for a baby because its joined onto ours, with a door within our room so could have it open and hear baby but with DSs in there baby will be in with us! DH is not bothered he believes we will move before baby is here im not so sure! decided moses basket is the way until we sort out how to change the room. Its friday and im in two minds if i should link some friends for dinner later? no social life since being pregnant!

CantThinkofFunnyName · 20/11/2009 18:22

Ladies - am 33+1, c/s booked for 29/12 at 38+5 BUT I am soooooo fed up with being pg already . SPD and baby movements/position really playing me up today, so much so, think I have to resort to the co-dydramol for the pain - which I only give into when really really bad (twice so far in past 13 wks) .

Keep thinking that have gut feeling this baby is going to make an early appearance before c/s date...... or is that just wishful thinking perhaps ?

Any lovely news out there on a Friday night?

somewhathorrified · 20/11/2009 18:39

It's great hearing how everyone deals with cot/bedroom scenerio. I'm hoping to BF although tbh it's more about it being on tap and no need to sterilize etc so basically I'm too lazy at this point to even consider not BF. I'm sure once the realisation of the pain of said action might well sway my lethargy later on... I am going to use washable nappies tho as I have a thing about disposables (they have the same effect on me as nails on blackboard). Plus I'm tight frugal so reuseables seem the best option.

yangy you said your BH and labour pains were like period pains. Stupid question but how did you know you'd gone into labour?

lottie remember to keep your legs crossed and not to push

fake plastic I can feel where my baby is. Very solid bits on my tummy are him, to the point I can trace his outline much of the time..he does like to push out a lot though, esp his butt!

mistletoekisses · 20/11/2009 18:47

Lottie - my goodness, so glad to hear that you and your little ones are doing ok. What drama! Sounds as though you are getting fantastic medical care! Look after yourself. I think your LO's may be the first ones to make an appearance on this thread!

Sockmonkey - glad to hear that all is well, and slightly disconcerting to hear that they think your reaction may be linked to having the jab.

Bethoo - am hoping that you are also doing ok. Are you around? What is the latest?

SWH - re. the baby sleeping arrangements. You'll find that everyone does everything differently. I asked friends at the time and got so much different advice, I ended up even more confused.

I kept DS in our room for 3/4 weeks tops. He was a very noisy sleeper and kept waking us. We also woke him. So at that point we moved him into his nursery. All of us slept much better. I was never able to do breastfeeds at night in bed - DS needed winding and changing, so I always got up to feed him anyway. When he was in our room, I kept the amby by the bed, so I could reach and soothe him if needed.

I got a changing table and it was a godsend. DS still goes on it for nappy changes and to get dressed in morning/ after bath. We have bought a second one for the baby because the first one still gets plenty of use.

Re the light at night, I got one of these.

nightlight. I kept it on dim (on its lowest setting, it gives a gentle glow) and then just brightened it slightly for nappy changes etc. It is still in DS's room and have got another one for this bub.

Re. the baby bath. I didnt bother with one and got one of these which was great. towelling bath support. It went in the main bath and took no room up at all.

Like I said, everyone will do things differently and I think a lot depends on your DC/ their requirements and what works best for you. I am trying to stay open to the fact that whatever worked for DS, may not work for this LO.

mistletoekisses - opened mind is good with siblings. Dd1 was an absolute angel, bf really well and slept through the night from 8.5 weeks - lovely so obviously I thought it was all down to my fantastic parental skills... oh no!

Dd2 came with a bang and did not sleep through the night until 14mths. She was a difficult baby with reflux bless her etc. Then into the toddler years dd1 loves to please me and abide by the rules but dd2 is a total free spirit and will do what pleases her only

I love the fact they are so different, both have great personalities but I have to deal with them differently and everything has been different from routines, feeds, weaning, sleep - everything. I dont know what I expected them to be similar anyway. There are two different people after all. I had to just learn a new bag of tricks and it will prob be the same this time too.

Thanks for the nightlight link - i need one!

shinybaubles · 20/11/2009 20:45

Hi everyone well this baby will be in a moses basket for about 6 weeks then into a cot like ds. Also not formula feeding this time around although did manage it for a few months last time.
Wow lottie how exciting.
I got given a seat today my an elderly lady with a zimmer frame because she thought I was going to faint it was a lovely gesture but I was so embarassed.

quirkychick · 20/11/2009 21:01

Kellymom website has some really good tips for starting bf.

I would say a v-cushion is fantastic and you can use as a comfy cushion after (am currently using to prop up preg person to stop heartburn ).

You don't need a steriliser if you bf but I was given one and have dug it out (and cleaned it!) for this time quite useful for breastpump as can get a bit yucky with milk.

The avent cups are really useful for storing milk, and later for baby food and snacks.

We have got an armsreach co-sleeper cot which will attach to the bed, haven't put it up yet as it will involve moving some furniture but hopefully soon. With dd had c-section and she lost a lot of birth weight so had to feed every 2hrs. No way on earth I was going to get up and pick her up so slept in bed, it was total godsend for us. Hoping co-sleeper will be great way of doing that this time.

Fraochsmum · 20/11/2009 21:09

Hello all!
Not posted in a while - well more like just over a week! Me and my fantastic other half have been away getting hitched! I've posted a couple of photos if you are so inclined. At nearly 33 weeks I had the audacity to wear ivory, tee hee hee! We had a civil ceremony in Glasgow then a few days getting spoilt at Gleneagles - they even brought us an ice bucket with champagne as a present! Had to go back to work on Wednesday but had a fabulous time while we were away.
Fakeplastictrees - I have no idea how my baby is lying (and neither does my mw), but am having a scan in 1 1/2 weeks so will know then.
Bethoo - omg so horrible, really hope you are getting loads of tlc from family and friends.
London - lots of drama for you! From rl parents of twins I know, yours sound like great weights already so hopefully all will be well, even if they do make an early appearance.
Had my phone calls from the local surgery now re: sf and really think I will just go for it. I had a meeting up north today and my colleague was saying how badly affected the Highlands are with it at the moment - 3 out of 5 participants in our chef programme couldn't attend her heat because they were ill with it... To be honest, I just get worried everytime I hear about it so will just book an appointment.
Am a bit tired now, so can't remember all the posts I was going to respond to but hope you are all well and have a lovely weekend xxx

devotion · 20/11/2009 21:36

Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You look beautiful in the pics and your dress is lovely.

Hope you had a lovely day

shinybaubles · 21/11/2009 07:51

Congratulations on your wedding.
I can't even string a sentence together lol I mean I am formula feeding this time. .
devotion that bednest looks like a great idea.

sockmonkey · 21/11/2009 08:49

Fraoch You look so beautiful, your dress is lovely. Congratulations.

I finally got round to ringing MW about my trip to Hospital, and she thinks breathlessness is more likely a sign I'm slightly anemic than reaction to SF jab. My blood tests came back borderline when I had them about 3 weeks ago. Will have to start eating spinach (ick) I don't want to have to do iron tablets.

I'm planning on BF again (much to DH's dismay - tough)I am a cheapskate, and lazy, so it suits me fine. I think DH not entirely keen cos I ended BF DS2 till he was 2 years. MN turned me into a bit of a lental weaver in that way.

Hope you all have lovely weekends planned.

somewhathorrified · 21/11/2009 10:16

Yangy I've been getting woken up from 'period pains' every night for the last week, but not getting too much during the day, whereas I was getting them during the day up til this point. I guess it'll do as it does. Thanks for the reassurance about knowing that labour will have started. I think I got a bit freaked as I used to know someone who didn't know she was in labour (with dc2) until she crowned on the loo! Had images of me consistantly saying to DH "don't worry it's just period pain!" then having a suprise. How naive am I .

sockmonkey if you don't like spinach there are plenty of other things that are high in iron, also don't forget that you need to take I think it's zinc or vit c with your iron source to aid absortion. Must be getting preggy brain, I used to know this stuff.

mistletoe that nightlight looks great, although I'll have to google to see if I can find find a cheaper one or see if I can adapt something I already have.

sazlocks · 21/11/2009 13:11

hi all - not posted for an age so looks like lots of news to catch up on........
Bethoo - your XDP sounds like a twunt and you are better off out of there but really feel for you about the timing and glad your sister is supportive
londonlottie must be dull, dull, dull to still be in hosp even with a transfer in an exciting helicopter - thank goodness that didn't need to happen when you were in labour
Froachsmum - lovely news and glad you had a great time

I had the SF jab (could only get Pandemrix) a couple of weeks back now after umming, ahhing, speaking to everyone and their dog about it. Can't change what I did now anyhows but am glad I bit the bullet and went for it while it was available. Horrible sore arm for a week and fluey for 24 hours.

I am planning to BF again and would second the BF cushion suggestion - I ended up with a ceaser last time and it made BF so much easier. I am probably wierd but I am really looking forward to BF again.

We have an old fashioned wodden crib thing that the baby will be in for 6 months ish in our room. I can't remember what I did last time about nappy changes but we just had a plastic mat - never bothered with a changing table.

The baby has been lying transverse for weeks now and keeps karate chopping my bladder - which is nice ! I am only 31 weeks so its got plenty of time to move. Other than that I am (rather sickeningly) full of the joys of pregnancy.
Happy weekend y'all

wow have been awol for a while...

lottie!!! how scary/exciting/aaagh for you, they sound like they're really excellent weights so will be fine if they do make an early appearance. DD was 6lb something at 40wks so for twins that's amazing, it must have been the crumpets

As for BH, I have been getting them quite a lot. Didn't have any in my first pregnancy though, maybe it's a subsequent pregnancy thing?

Baby will be sleeping in moses basket, maybe, next to my side of bed initially. Might move a cot into the bedroom when he's a bit bigger. Like the look of the bedside ones but DP says no as we already have a cot! (spoiling my internet spending spree fun)

DD actually co-slept in my bed, I had a lindam bedrail up so she couldn't fall out, and she used to breastfeed without even waking me up. It was a big bed though and I never drank/smoke/did drugs etc! so never any risk of squashing. Interestingly she used to breathe in time with me.. but I rather like the space so this baby will be in his own cot.

No changing table, had chest of drawers before with changing mat on top. Have nothing this time (yet!) as we moved so he'd better not arrive too soon....! Totally unprepared!

Mama2b5 · 21/11/2009 14:25

Firstly Congratulation Fraochsmum - i know you and DH must of had a lovely day surrounded by friends and family. Now thats out of the way, you have christmas to get through - does that mean christmas dinner x2 or will you be at home! we used to go to my mum's then pass round to MIL i loved christmas day - not looking forwards to it this timemaybe i can sleep through it!I ended up staying in another nite, but wasnt really bothered because im now walking like i have been horseriding for a month and am saddle sore! due to spd!!!!
4 days of work left!!!!!!!!!! yeh also GTT came back negative so thats good, just have to focus on having a healthy baby now

crumpette · 21/11/2009 15:22

just popped back and read a bit more, writing about crumpets made me go and eat some... fraochsmum congratulations!!!! Just had a peek at your photos and you look stunning, what a gorgeous dress (and is that a kilt I see!!? )

mama2b5 only 4 days left! I am jealous, stupidly I volunteered to work later on so as far as work are concerned, if I'm not induced, I'm working up until Christmas eve when I'll be 38+ weeks I think.. aaagh...!

quirkychick · 21/11/2009 17:22

Fraochsmum you look lovely! Congratulations

Have been busy washing some of dd's old baby stuff: cover for bouncy chair, toys etc. Also getting party stuff ready for her birthday next week, dining room table covered in sweets, straws, crisps... Also trying to get some of the Christmas stuff ready for after.

Lol at mw who told me to take it easy. Easier said than done!

Crumpette don't know how I convinced dp to buy and order new cot, we have cotbed from dd as well but baby will go in when too big for bedside cot. I can't imagine sleeping with lo again but I know once here I will want to.
