FakePlasticTrees · 05/11/2009 12:25

Thanks crumpette - I might get strong on the 'stuff I will need from day 1' and give them a list of other stuff. Or promise to keep it all in the garage to avoid the 'bad luck' .

anyone else dealing with stupid old wives tales about bad luck etc? I've also been told not to reach from high shelves as putting my arms above my head could course the cord to go round the baby's neck...

chickbean · 05/11/2009 12:37

Sorry crumpette, I was overreacting. Don't worry - I have been eating lots of nutella and chatting to my best friend and I'm feeling a bit more in control.

bethoo · 05/11/2009 12:40

fakeplastictrees i think that specific tale is Hawaiian as it was to discourage women from overdoing it! shame no one is trying to discourage me from cooking! doing quick and easy pasta bake tonight!

sockmonkey · 05/11/2009 13:16

Aaaahhh... so I can blame sorting out the archived filing for DS1 having cord around his neck.

FlightofFancy · 05/11/2009 13:20

This does make me grateful that my mum is fairly 'hand off' - though excited! Mind you - they've offered to buy the pram for us - I did send her my shortlist to see what she though, and apparently she's been stopping people in the street to ask what they think of theirs when she spots someone with one of the same make! Will get reputation as local nutter...
(mind you, it's quite useful - and I'm mainly in London when you'd probably get arrested for doing the same!)

FakePlasticTrees · 05/11/2009 13:26

Apparently so sockmonkey...

thanks for the support, I'm not being a moose then with my parents? They really would go get lots of truely vile stuff that was on offer that I'll have to give houseroom to if left to their own devices...

bethoo · 05/11/2009 13:58

well had a raspeberry and cream turnover, highly recommended as absoltely to die for! anyway little one also agreed so she is kicking now!

chickbean · 05/11/2009 14:22

crumpette - I tried to CAT you to apologise in person, but you don't receive them I am so sorry for snapping at you - it wasn't that you said anything in your post that I hadn't read already, so it was completely irrational. I am too hormonal to be on MN at the moment.

crumpette · 05/11/2009 14:30

chickbean just popped back, no worries, I was just concerned that I had upset you, sorry. I often just pop on and read a few posts and then type something, so I hadn't properly read yours saying you were worried sorry

PS the world is run by aliens though...

chickbean · 05/11/2009 14:37

At the moment I feel like an alien, but am incapable of running the house, never mind the world I think my problem is that, because I have been crying a lot, my eyes feel tired and weepy all the time and it only takes the slightest thing to tip me over the edge. On the plus side, I am going to my mum's tomorrow, and should get to catch up on a bit of sleep. And I have just discovered that Ben and Jerry's is half price in Morrison's - so the immediate future is looking a bit rosier [greedy emoticon]

devotion · 05/11/2009 18:17

hello
bit stressed, had 28 week app with mw today and she was worried when feeling my baby and said its very small. she asked the weights of my other babies and said i needed to be checked out and scanned. all stressed now!
she had booked me in for 9.30am in the morning and said I am measuring 25 weeks. i keep worrying now about my friends little boy who pounced on my stomach a few weeks ago and winded me, I felt sick for a few hours later. I hope he didnt dislodge my placenta or hurt the baby!!! wish they could just look now! i hope its nothing!
plus last night i had my first braxton hick, they were so strong i had to go and sit down, i was moving my instruments around and moving boxes so i guess it means i have to slow down. i hope my baby is ok. just wondering is anyone else has experienced this? i feel bad for the 2nd time to come and here recently and just talk about myself. X

sazlocks · 05/11/2009 18:43

Oh Devotion - try not to worry - hope everything goes ok with your scan in the am.
I was quite concerned about bad luck last pregnancy and this time I have only got a couple of things after 25 weeks - feels a bit bonkers really as it clearly makes no difference to the outcome ! but superstition is a funy thing isn't it ?
I have 3 sets of parents/in laws and my way of managing their excesses was to get a bank account set up for the baby (DS) and suggest that they gave money rather than more things. I will be doing the same this time as it has really helped curb their buying as we live in a small place, DS has sooooo much stuff already and we really don't need anything for the baby.
Didn't see any posts before they got taken down so hope I am not reigniting any senstive issues - def not meaning to do that. I went to see my GP today to get another opinion about the SF jab. As I work in the NHS I have spoken to lots of other clinicians as well to get their views. Everyone, without exception, has said to get it which has surprised me as a couple of the people I spoke to are very cynical about this type of thing.
So I have made up my mind and am booked in to have the jab on Sat am. It's with a bit of a heavy heart to be honest but I feel like I have taken all the steps I can to make an informed decision. I just hope, upon hope that I don't live to regret it.

mistletoekisses · 05/11/2009 19:35

Devotion - have posted on your thread in pregnancy. Please do not worry. I had this from 32 weeks with DS. He measured small - cue lots of growth scans, doppler scans and traces on baby movements.
He arrived at 37 weeks weighing a diddy 5lbs 1oz but perfectly healthy and very strong.
Post here again if you need any advice and I can share.

Chickbean - hope that you are feeling better. If it is any of any reassurance, then the majority of pregnant women I know are having the s.f. jab. I spoke to my boss this morning who has had been off all week with s.f and he said that it was utterly dreadful and he wouldnt wish it upon anyone.

Well, I finished work today! Take some annual leave and then maternity leave kicks in. And am feeling so relaxed already. There has been so much going on - feels as though have just about managed to rebalance! Downside is obviously having to go back sooner next year, but never mind! Even with the jab, my preference is to hibernate.

devotion · 05/11/2009 20:39

thanks mistletoekisses x

chickbean · 05/11/2009 20:54

Devotion - thinking of you and hoping all is well. I'm sure it's nothing to do with the other week. Really hope the scan puts your mind at rest.

mistletoekisses - thanks for your reassurance. I don't know anyone who has had the vaccine (dearth of pregnant friends at the moment) - I decided to have the jab after a few non-pregnant friends were really ill with very high temperatures and I was starting to feel like I was living on borrowed time - have nearly three months to go, so hibernation is not an option.

Will go to bed in a minute - need to try and get more sleep and hope that my hormones settle down as a result.

Mama2b5 · 05/11/2009 21:45

Hi all - Hope all is well, today me and DH went to my physio appt then to mothecares and to a buggy shop and tried and folded up some we have now narrowed it down to -
O baby , Quinny , or the Graco Quattro (DH doesnt like it but its cheap)

also sent of my HIP form- no hurry for the money though. Oh and got my FREE bag from boots love it for a freebie its great!
16 days till i finish work!!!!!

MW is happy with my 28 check and i was told no more scans are needed so really wanted to see my baby again!
Been told to have the GT test so im not pleased found it total waste of a good day the last time over 8 years ago but because im in the risk group shes pushing me to do get it! so booked in the 13th Nov if i go!

maygirl · 06/11/2009 00:24

Hope everything is ok tomorrow devotion.
I get painless Braxton H- just a hard bump when exerting self, and occasionally get bad back pain, like period pains which I have to breathe through a bit, but for last for less than a minute.

I had a diabetes check today, as have family history too mama2b5, but it was a Postprandial rather than GT. I had to eat breakfast at home including 5 items off their list. Was loads as usually only have a bowl of cereal! Then go in and have blood taken 2 hrs after eating, finished breakfast 7am, arrived clinic just before 9am, and was out by 9.10. Seems much better idea than the GT test, maybe they are changing to this??

Midwife won't give me the HIP form till next appt at 34 weeks

My baby is transverse, trying to coax him/her down into a better postion, though its quite comfy having the head away from bladder I must say, he/she is right at the top of bump, under my boobs. My bump is funny, really big and high at the top, but not much at the bottom!

Going washable nappy shopping tomorrow, need something fluffy! Only things we really need to buy I think until we know if baby is another boy, or a girl

iateallthecreameggsyummy · 06/11/2009 07:41

Hi all, Devotion Im thinking of you with your scan today and please let us know how you get on. I'm sure it will all be ok.

Maygirl that seems very late for HIP i thought it had to be done around the 7 month mark? Mine was done at 25 weeks. I thought my baby was transverse but thats not to be!

Had my 28 week appt yesterday, all was fine and midwife said I seem to be having a textbook pregnany no waterworks probs, back probs or anything. (other than uncomfy in bed and slight indegestion) I once again had to tell midwife where to find babies heartbeat as its always been super low on the left despite his current size.

I thought he was transverse but midwife said his head is down, his bum is across my belly and hes kind of curled up. Cant wait to hear his heart again in 3 weeks time!

I led in bed this morning feeling so happy that we will be meeting him in 11 weeks time (ok maybe a bit longer) and I cant wait to see what he looks like! Does anyone else think like me, will he have lots of hair, be like his daddy and all that!

Well im of to float about in my happy state Hope you all have a lovely day!! xx

sockmonkey · 06/11/2009 07:53

devotion hope all goes well with your scan. My sister had a baby which was measuring small, then put on a month's worth of weight in about 2 weeks.

alibobins · 06/11/2009 08:12

Devotion hope all is okay with the scan today

Not feeling great this morning had a small amount of red blood last night before bed after a few wipes it was just pink. Baby moving around fine so I'm just going to take it easy.

CantThinkofFunnyName · 06/11/2009 10:22

Morning all. Seems like I missed quite a bit yesterday.

Alibobins - hope all is ok with you. Get checked if any worries.

Devotion - add my best wishes to the rest. Hope all goes well with the scan but I'm sure it will be fine.

I had quite a busy day for me yesterday! Had my first ante-natal class - a refresher course really. Second one next Thursday. Was quite nice meeting other local mums to be and sharing. Not so nice was the comparing of the bumps, which is inevitable isn't it? Think I'm fairly average - but still v jealous of the small ones!

Then I had a mw appt in the afternoon. Trace of protein in urine, oedema and a slightly increased bloody pressure. Eeek. So urine gone off for testing - but it takes a week to come back??!! Rather odd for checking on pre-eclampsia I think.

Went to a lovely firework display in Bayswater last night, c/o MIL's London square garden where they do a big display each year.
SPD currently a bit of a nightmare but counting d

SPD a bit of a nightmare but just counting down the weeks.....

somewhathorrified · 06/11/2009 11:28

Morning all.

Me and DH had a chat about the SF Jab and have decided that it's best for me to have it done( for him it's about losing me, for me it's mostly because spending the next 9 weeks worrying about contracting it is probably worse than actually having it), so phoned GP only to be told they haven't got it yet!

maygirl I too am on the mission to obtain washable nappies, although I'm going to use fleece liner, muslins and wrap for him first off, and have made some pocket type nappies for him to use after a couple of weeks.

I can't say I'm having issues with grandparents buying stuff as MiL is currently not talking to us I think...or maybe we're not talking to her, not entirely sure. Last time we spoke she told us that we couldn't call our son by any name she didn't like, then proceeded to have a go at me saying that I wasn't independant because I don't have a driving license .

Is anyone having occaasional stabbing type sensation in their nipples? Do you think they're just clearing the tubes for the milk?

bethoo · 06/11/2009 11:42

somewhathorridfied tell granny to wind her neck in, she will have to call her grandchild the name you give it. as for pains iin boobs i thik that could be growing pains as they begin to produce colustrum/milk.
i am independant yet cant drive, there is such a thing as public transport!

bethoo · 06/11/2009 11:43

i got my letter through for swine flu injection but still unsure, i keep being in the way of thinking, i only have 9 weeks to go! but sods law ther will be someone in labour ward with it!

devotion any news? hope that all is well.xx

somewhathorrified · 06/11/2009 12:10

Haha, calling her 'granny' would be enough to get her back! Even tho this is grandkid n0. 8. Better still I can teach kiddie to call her Grandma...ooh I am an evil twisted person.
