Hope everyone is feeling well/better and maybe getting a saturday morning lie-in [hopeful!].

I'm feeling fine physically, had a few moments of forgetting I'm pregnant then being shocked to see a bump! But this forgetfullness partly down to severe pregnancy brain. Just found out I've made a major major error at work, and feel sick at the thought of going in next week
Perhaps they'll want me to take immediate maternity leave and get out of the way...

I'm going to have to work some really late nights next week to try and put it right.
Just hope I don't make more of a mess, my mind is just so fuzzy right at a time when there is so much to organise, with handover at work, xmas and baby preparations.

Having gestational diabetes check next week as all my relatives have type 2. Not a GTT fortunately, I just have to eat a set breakfast and then go in for bloods exactly 2 hrs after eating. Hoping I'll be fine, so far been able to carry on with my usual spinning and body pump gym classes so that should help the battle against my genetics!! Have gained loads of weight though, and measure big for dates. Though with DS1 I measured 6!!cm over at 28 weeks. I'm only 5ft so a definate weeble effect!
I just had a fasted blood sample and a growth scan that time, both were fine.
Happy halloween!

flyingma · 31/10/2009 01:07

lilacpink I'm also feeling really squashed. Gets better/ worse according to the position of the baby. It's taking me an increasing amount of time to settle down - think I'll try to prop myself up and see if that makes a difference.

CTOFN I am getting the night time sweats... not everynight but often enough. I am hoping that will sort itself out once the weather gets colder... not that I am hoping it will get colder, mine. I am enjoying this mild weather.

I am glad this (working) week is over and done with. Only 4 more to go!! I am still waiting for my HIP money - MW didn't give me the form till last week! Not sure what to get yet - wonder if it's unreasonable to use it to pay off some debts?

Have spent the most of today sorting out various gift lists. I got nagged into doing one by a pushy colleague. I think I have most of the small non-furniture items picked. Going to go browse for a few more threads on what people find useful... getting confused re changing mats and bath tubs of all things!!

We have a really big bathtub and I am a shower kid of girl... so really wanted a tub for the baby that ideally comes to a good height so I don't have to bend over to bathe baby. Can't do it in sink as bathroom isn't set up that way. Some people are saying babies grow out of tubs really quickly and it's more worthwhile to get them a stand to adapt the big tub for their bath time? Any opinions anyone?

Re changing mats the question is whether there is any merit in the wedge ones that Mothercare and JL do. The Mothercare reviewers said that they changed manufacturers and that the quality was not worth the price...

I should just ask for vouchers but the thing is I am moving away from all these people so this is ideal as I can get the stuff they order delivered directly home.

Finally, adding myself to the list:

Flyingma When DS1 was born I ended up bathing him in my biggest mixing bowl. He hated the babybath, I think it scared him. It's very odd to remember him being that small. They do grow out of the little baths quite quickly.

I'd go with just a normal changing mat too. They only get sprinkled with wee & poo... not worth spending a fotune on. Plus mine both used to kick the cr*p out of them, so they never lasted long.

Did anyone else get a predicted growth chart in thier notes? Mine has scared me a bit. According to mine little bub may well be a 9 lb-er. DS1 was 6 lb10 DS2 was 6 lb7... how am I going to part with an extra 3 lbs???

shinybaubles · 31/10/2009 07:58

flyingma i had one of those mothercare wedge ones for ds and it was great with a washable cover, just wish I hadn't given it away . But will be buying another.
With baths originally I bought one of these but it was a disaster very difficult to drain and emptied all over the floor once so sold it. Then he was bathed in the sink, or in a normal bucket until I bought a baby bath from ikea here and this we used on kitchen table until he was 7 months then he went in a bath seat in the tub.

shinybaubles · 31/10/2009 08:05

sockmonkey I have had an estimated weight for the baby of about 3 kilos which is about 6.6 lbs, ds was 3.6 kilos that's 8 lbs, so this one is going to be a bit samller apparently - I am not sure how accurate these things are but it'll be fun to see.

crumpette · 31/10/2009 08:58

Hello everyone

Haven't been on in a while, not much news! Getting an obvious bump now, hurrah, hated looking just podgy for so long!

Waking up at 4am every single morning so annoying as I then can't get back to sleep!

Work has been much better recently since 'the email'I sent, no dramas, very busy though and have told them I am starting mat leave beginning of January, but am going to take annual leave from dec 16th (37wks)
have nearly escaped the office!

Hope everyone is OK

crumpette · 31/10/2009 09:03

PS had a growth scan, this baby is huge. DD didn't grow at the end, but this little one definitely won't have the same smallness problem, at 28+something weeks estimated weight was 1.8kg (sounds a lot to me!!! DD was under 3kg at 40 weeks!)

CantThinkofFunnyName · 31/10/2009 09:43

Morning everyone. Good to see some of the old names popping back on. I guess now work is winding down for some, we'll see a bit more of you.

I had a baby bath for DC1 (10 years ago) but didn't rate them at all. very complicated, difficult to put water in and get out etc. For DC2 I just bought a bath support foam cushion from Mothercare, put a bit of water in the normal bath and held baby on the cushion, which was so much easier. Have bought one again for this one, although DH will have to do bathing for a while as I won't be able to bend over bath after the c/s.

Was in bed by 7.30pm last night , then DD cam in at 1.30am saying she had had a bad dream, got stolen by a robber!! She climbed in with us, I had no room, couldn't get back to sleep so came down and watched TV for 2 hours before finally going back to her bed. Still, a Saturday with absolutely nothing to do today - really looking forward to it.

Even DH is taking the kids out trick or treating tonight so I get to watch my Sat night programmes in peace - woohoo!

somewhathorrified · 31/10/2009 10:35

Morning all.

I was just going to get a 'value' washing up bowl for a baby bath, I was also told that the changing mat you get in the boots free (ish) changing bag (that you get for joining the boots club thing) was great and would be all I needed. If it turns out it's not I'll get dh to pick up one from the supermarket.

I'm definitely not thinking about how big lil dude may be at the end, in fact I'm pretty sure I don't want to know! I'm going to live in the delusion that he'll have a very small head and be long and thin (pref the size of a vibrator ).

iateallthecreameggsyummy · 31/10/2009 12:45

Morning all!

somewhat I will probably end up getting a bowl to, as the bath I have is quite clumbersome and heavy!

The changing mat within the Pampers bag from Boots is fantastic its really big and comes in its own little bag, certainly bigger than some of the other free mats you can get. Failing that I got one at tescos for £6.60 which is better than Argos who wanted £10!

Also ladies for those who did not know Sainsburys have started a baby club you can have 1000 points or a £10 gift set thing if you buy huggies nappies. I think its called Little Ones club or something like that!

DH put up babies drawers this morning and I have been filling them with all his clothes, slightly shocked with the amount if stuff he has and so will be having a major clothes cull before his arrival! Any of you live close to me Im happy to pass them on! I live near Bath in Somerset.

Hope you all have a restful enjoyable Saterday! xx

flyingma · 31/10/2009 22:20

sock LOL at the mixing bowl - I had visions of trying to bath the baby in my 2l Pyrex!! Thanks all for yr comments, will use the washing up bowl instead.

Also will remember to get my free Boots mat. I will probably need to buy another as I intend to keep one upstairs and another downstairs.

Had a good relaxing class of yoga today so looking forward to a lovely night's sleep.

Next door had a Halloween party for the kids and they were so excited setting the fireworks off. Even more so when the firework display in the local park turned out to be in full view from our backyards. They were so excitable with every bang (even if it was a bit of a paltry display). Just think: this time next year, you may be holding onto the new baby watching the firework for (possibly) the first time in their life!

lilacpink · 31/10/2009 22:51

Hi all, my DD was average (7.5lb) and we bathed her in the bathroom sink for about 4 weeks and then got a mothercare supabath. I'm really glad my Mum kept this one back for me, I'd def be buying another one if not. Worth kneeling on a towel though if you have a hard floor! This link to it may work:
www.mothercare.com/Mothercare-Supabath/dp/B000IVQQIQ/ref=sr_11_1/275-9921218-7106324?_encoding=UTF8& mcb=core

Off to bed to prop myself up on my 6 pillows, glad to hear I'm not alone in this, not that I'm willing discomfort on anyone though! Not many weeks to go

ClaireDB · 01/11/2009 17:42

Hello, haven't been on for ages, been so busy. Hope everyone is ok.

I can't believe some of you are finishing work already. I'm so jealous. I have another 5 weeks to go! On the plus side, work are being ok and have offered to let me work at home some days.

I'm also jealous that you are all only weeing once per night, I think I have up to 3 then I have to get up early even at the weekend because I'm so hungry all the time.

Well on the home straight now...

I haven't had any BH yet. Is that normal at 31 weeks? When do they start?

Mama2b5 · 01/11/2009 21:36

Hi mums!

Today- would of been my dear mum's bday she would of been 74 today, so after church me and the family went to the grave and put our cards and flowers down! it was so hard but so glad i made it through, so grateful to my DH who held my hand all the way through!

Thursday -me& kids went to see "UP" i so enjoyed it! i think i liked it more then the kids x4 we came out making quotes and saying what our fave part was!

I beginning to fret about space to put all the baby things we so don't have space and i may just have to clear a draw for baby to sleep in!!!!!

Im waking up around 4ish also and its not fun because baby feels its time for play and is having fun in my rib cage!!!! Countdown begin here folks!!!!!!!!!

maygirl · 01/11/2009 22:53

Big hugs M2B5 xxx

alibobins · 02/11/2009 08:08

Morning I didn't get muc sleep last night was really uncomfortable had really bad back ache
Had a runny tummy this morning (tmi) feel really crampy and rubbish

sockmonkey · 02/11/2009 10:18

Been up to visit my family this weekend. Went with my DSis and her boys to Manchester Science museum. Was great, but lots of walking & stairs which left me a bit achey.

DH getting cross with me on a night... I just can't get comfortable & spend most of the night turning from one side to the other. I sometimes wish he was the pregnant one, then he'd know how uncomfortable it is, especially when you are trying to settle and baby is disco dancing.... still it's only going to get worse

alibobins - hope you are feeling better soon.

jlo1234 · 02/11/2009 11:59

Defluffmyfanjo · 02/11/2009 13:53

Hello, I haven't been around for ages but to recap (!) one dd of 4 and this dd due 11th Jan.

I've got horrid acid reflux and not very pleasant SPD, first physio appt tmrw, any one else got it?

x

CantThinkofFunnyName · 02/11/2009 14:40

Defluffmyfanjo - I LOVE that name!!! Yes, have horrid acid reflux, really getting bad at the moment, and a couple of us here had equally horrid SPD. Welcome back!

shinybaubles · 02/11/2009 16:28

Yes I have acid reflux but got some medicine from the doctors to help it along with a few life style changes.

Mama2b5 · 02/11/2009 16:32

Hi all new and old!

Well survived Mums bday and went back to work today! ahhhhhhhhhhh hate it now bad backache due to stupid work chair! oh well 19 work days left!

I have discovered also this awful acid reflux - i feel that after i eat the food is in my throat and hasnt gone down!
so now i so dont eat late anymore and sometimes wake up really hungry!

who remembers Ally Mcbeal and the dancing baby she kept seeing! i now know where that baby went in my belly!

flyingma · 02/11/2009 16:48

Welcome to jlo1234 It's my first too and I am hoping to get home soon to nest (moving in 4 weeks time) then I will allow myself to get excited. At the moment it's more worrying about how this is going to happen logistically.

sock I know what you mean about DH. Earlier in pregnancy with the sickness and rest of the changes going on, I was moaning all the time. To which his reply was quite unsympathetic something about me not bearing my pregnancy with much grace.

30 weeks in, I think grace pretty much goes out the window once you discover you are pregnant... more a case of TMI constantly (how many thing can possibly go wrong). I think about what he's like when he has a bout manflu... I doubt very much my DH will be very "graceful" if he were pregnant with the child doing the triathlon inside you throughout the day when you are trying to work!!

That said, I really really should not moan. The kid seems to have, touch wood, settled into some kind of routine so that he/she beds down a while after I have found our ideal compromise sleeping position for the night. So that for the most of it I get a straight 7-8 hours of sleep without getting up for a wee (prob not drinking enough water) or being kicked awake!! Either that or I am just too bloody tired to be stirred, which does not bode well for when the baby's out. I do worry that I am such a heavy sleeper but everyone has reassured me that you are chemically and biologically made not to be able to ignore your baby's cries of distress. We'll see...

sockmonkey · 02/11/2009 17:15

welcome jlo1234! Time goes very strange when you are pregnant, in some ways it seems to drag, in others ways it flies by.

flyingma... I used to be a really heavy sleeper before I had children. Not any more LOL!! The slightest sound & I wake up. It's true, you will wake at the slightest snuffle (is that a blessing or a curse??)

devotion · 02/11/2009 17:29

hello

just flying in quickly to bring some good news, i see there are lots of messages to read so i will come back later to read them.

i cant stop smiling, my dad has just been given the all clear afert fighting bowel cancer since last august

we are all over the moon, he had quite advanced cancer and has had operations to remove tumours, radiotherapy and chemo through an intravenous drip in his neck, he has had to live all year with a stoma bag attached to his stomach and has a massive hernia which makes him look pregnant so the last year has not been a comfy ride for him but the scan has shown no more cancer so no more chemo. he can have hos reversal op in the new year and deal with the hernia too.

i am so happy for him, the chemo reduced him to being housebound and so drained of energy so hopefully his energy will return soon.

i am not sure if i had told you this before but i spoke about in when i was on the feb thread before my dates were changed. i raised almost £3000 running at this years london marathon for beating bowel cancer charity.

waiting on todays news has been sitting on my shoulder for so long, its all my family talk about so now we can all look forward to more happy times ahead.

just had to get that out and....... relaaaaaaaaaaaaaaax!
