Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
FakePlasticTrees · 26/10/2009 10:24

hi all,

so we moved house last week - with DH having ripped his shoulder playing rugby the saturday before last, so it's been rather traumatic. I've done far too much lifting of things and have spent this weekend paying for it by being v achy The new house still looks like a bomb site, still, as long as it's sorted for Christmas, I think that's a reasonable timeframe

Anyway, to join the paternity leave debate - DH get's 2 weeks paid, but doesn't need to take it in a full block, so might take a week, allow family to decend for a week then take another week. Not sure what would be best. He can also work from home a couple of days a week and might do that for the first month... Got to have a think about that.

somewhathorrified · 26/10/2009 11:37

fake take it easy as long as you unpack the things you need the rest can wait, you don't want to over do it and pull/dislodge something!

shiny ooh don't envy you that 4 hr trip, I only have 1 1/2hr each way and thats bad enough (luckily there's 4 pos toilet stops between here and there!).

flyingma · 26/10/2009 13:42

Afternoon all...

sock I think groin pains are normally round ligament pains which are perfectly normal. They can be but not necessarily the early onset of SPD and reading the posts on here, I hope for your sake it isn't. I get it (round ligament pains) on and off but it goes away soon enough. Try walking slower/ less maybe?

shiny as this is my first - I am still not sure if these are Braxton Hicks. I think they are as everything goes tense and can sometimes hurt a lot (esp when I am standing). I had to check with MW if there was an upper limit to the number of BHicks you can have before it becomes a problem but apparently there isn't.

somewhat Snap! It's taking ages to get to sleep at night as I keep having to re-adjust my position until both me and baby are happy. Normally I hit the the bed and fall asleep instantly. I have 4 pillows and the maternity pillow but everynight the configuration of where each pillow is place differs. LOL.

Was really happy this weekend as baby moved from transverse position to a head down one. Unfortunately over the course of last night, he/she has moved again. Today it feels like he/she is exploring real estate in there. This does not make sense but I think it is on one side so I feel a bit unbalanced?? Weird...

Fraochsmum · 26/10/2009 16:41

Yeah, be careful Fake, you must be feeling rubbish now Really don't worry too much about the house though, you have plenty of time to sort it out and I'm sure you have lots more on your plate with poor DH recouperating. Fantastic about his parental leave though!
Hahaha flyingma re exploring real estate! Mine still tours about in there, but I really can't define the parts I feel. The mw couldn't either, but I'll beg ask her for a scan in a couple of weeks and hopefully have a better idea.
That is a lot to do in one day shiny, you must have been shattered. I have decided I'm not going to bust a gut travelling any more, though I only have 4 weeks (pt) of that job left. I will be doing 750 miles between Wed and Fri this week, but am going to stay in a hotel Thursday cause I don't feel it's worth tiring myself out by doing any more.
I have just started to panic slightly about Christmas, purely because I could feasibly have baby before then. It just seems so much closer than the 4th of Jan, maybe just being neurotic
Hope you are all having this beautiful weather after the miserable weekend!

shinybaubles · 26/10/2009 17:14

Hi everyone pil make a huge effort to travel to visit us so I thought we would squeeze a last visit in before the baby arrives.

flyingma well this is my second and I still couldn't tell you the difference between fake contractions and the real thing had a csection for ds1 and although I was according to the monitor having contractions I couldn't feel them - I am desperate to feel a real one.

fraochsmum I know what you mean about Christmas I have it all pretty much organised since I will be having the baby on the 24th Dec instead of the 5th Jan.

CantThinkofFunnyName · 26/10/2009 17:53

Evening everyone. So half term has started and my 2 kids are already driving me mad - they are bored bored bored! Been baking banana choc chip muffins, changed all the bedding, which they had to help me with, but due to SPD I really can't get out much with them this week so am attempting to spread out the baking / domestic activities!!

Re Christmas, I'm pretty much done on everything now as I'm having a c/s before Xmas rather than going to my due date of 7 Jan so its all coming around v quickly now. I reckon I have 8 weeks til baby in arms

Fraochsmum · 26/10/2009 18:44

So you are! Gosh I actually got a wee 'gulp' there imagining having a baby in my arms in 8 weeks time. Oh dear, really too late to start getting nerves isn't it? Still, I will have the whole of December only doing part time to get a reality check and organise things.
I understand you going to the pils shiny and I'm sure they were delighted to see you!
Hope you manage to find plenty to keep the kids amused CTOFN - could they possibly get things ready for halloween?

Mama2b5 · 26/10/2009 19:42

Hi all, its seems that its all go with date changes and moving, driving for hours my gosh! my life aint that
exciting!!!!!

As i posted is anyone having a "Baby Shower" i am trying to tell my friends a good date but its all go with christmas and then the dry finance season!

we dont do halloween in our house but the kids are fine and are quite happy helping me make space for the baby things and getting rid of small clothes for the charity shop!

devotion · 26/10/2009 19:46

Good evening all.

I actually typed a really long post up the other day then something happened and it disappeared? Don't you hate it when that happens? I was so cross I could not write it all again.

A condensed version now - I just said that I was feeling ok and getting lots of movement so assumed the little attack I got caused no harm.

Can not remember now - think I asked about if everyone has decided if they will have the swine flu jab or not. I reall do not know what to do, I would prefer not to have it but I dont want to put myself or baby at risk.

I just wish they had some stats like you if you get swine flu when pregnant, whats the chances it could be dangerous or just put you out for five days which I could cope with?

Its so annoying that we will be heavily pregnant around the worse possible time. Also how much of the fear surrounding it is scaremongering us into having the vaccine?

It was my birthday on the weekend and we have plans for both days that ended up being scrapped as both my girls have been ill now for 6 days with fever and sore throat so stuck in all day again today. I feel so fed up and the whinging and bickering has really drained me today. They are a bit better today so I hope tomorrow they will be on the mend.

Hope everyone else is feeling great!

x

somewhathorrified · 26/10/2009 19:59

happy birthday devotion! hopefully you'll get a belated b'day when everyone's feeling a lttle better.

I'm defintely leaning more towards having the pig jab after I had a text saying that a friend i see every week has just been diagnosed with it...not good! I'm not panicking but it does appear to be knocking at the door as it were, we'll see I guess.

Mama2b5 · 26/10/2009 20:01

Hi Devo - happy belated birthday! sorry that your DDs are sick, I pray they will make a quick and prompt recoverer!
im not getting the S.Jab as i said before i feel like they are filling peoples head with fear - personally!
I usually copy all my posts just in case they get lost while trying to post!

sockmonkey · 27/10/2009 07:38

Happy Birthday for last weekend devotion. Hope the little 'uns are feeling better. I know what you mean about how draining it is when they are ill.

I'm still undecided about the s.jab. DH has had the swine flu already & I didn't catch it. There were a few cases at DSs school/nursery just before the summer hols, but none since. My DNeice is a nurse and she has said she will refuse it.

It's terrible cos I can't normally make dessisions anyway... I dither about what pizza I want, never mind something big like this

Fraochsmum · 27/10/2009 08:27

That is quite interesting sockmonkey, the 3 different healthcare profs I spoke to won't take it either...
Mind you, my interview appeared in the Sunday Express this week and made it sound like I was pretty against it, even though I'm really sitting on the fence!
Happy belated birthday devotion!

FlightofFancy · 27/10/2009 13:20

I must admit that I'm going to go for the swine flu jab when offered, for a number of reasons (based on careful reading of the NHS advice). Mainly because I'm more concerned about what happens if I catch swine flu once the baby's born rather than while pregnant.

It's one thing to be able to shut yourself up for a week or so to get over it when it's just you that affects (even though pregnant women are more likely to catch swine flu due to lowered immune systems, and even though it's more likely to turn in to pnumonia in people in the 3rd trimester due to increased pressure on the lungs), but I really wouldn't want to risk passing it on to a newborn - or have to cope with being ill on top of adjusting to a new baby.

There's also some research that suggests that if you build up immunity (either through having SF or, more safely, having the vaccine) you can pass some of that immunity on to your baby - particularly important as they can't vaccinate infants under 6 months (not because it's not safe, but because it doesn't stimulate enough of an immune response to be effective)

CantThinkofFunnyName · 27/10/2009 13:22

Hi everyone, happy belated birthday Devotion!

I'm feeling a bit grumpy and deflated today. My friend gave me an absolutely fabulous travel system a couple of months ago, an old 3 wheeler type, but the 3 tyres are completely flat, which she did tell me. It didn't worry me at all - I mean, how hard can it be to pump some air into pram tyres?? Trust me - you've now idea how hard!! We have a variety of pumps in our house, bike pumps, foot pumps for various inflatables etc - none of them will fit the valve tucked away inside the pram tyres. Went to Halfords - they don't have pumps that fit. Went to the garage for free air - that doesn't fit. Phoned Mothercare and my only option left is to take it to local store and see if they have anything from similar models. If not, I will have to buy a whole brand new pram/pushchair just because of flat tyres. How crap is that

devotion · 27/10/2009 13:46

CantThinkofFunnyName - how annoying!

go on your local www.netmums.com select your local area then on their notice board ask if anyone in your local area has a pump for that model or if not how did they pump up their tyres. Just an idea, what does the manufacturer say?

thank you too for my birthday messages, one dd is still sick and the other is better now. hopefully this will really be the last day - fingers crossed!!!

The jab the jab the jab - i just can not make up my mind. I like to think I have a strong immune system (touch wood). I never pick up what my kids have even though dh does sometimes. He has also been ill a few times since i have know him similar to flu and i never caught it. But i guess being pregnant does reduce my immunity then if i do get swine flu, what is the risk it will turn into pneumonia?

My friend had pneumonia whilst pregnant a few years ago and she was wiped out for weeks but she was ok with not long term effects. Its the risk I hate to think I am putting myself under, it would be my own fault.

How do I know my two girls have not just had a mild form of swine flu? It would be great if it was then they would be immune.

I am just so scared about possible side effects the jab could have. The goverment change their mond constantly about the safety of various medicines.

For example, since dd age 6 was born I was told by gp to alternate between calpol and nurofen when she had a fever which I have done when ever needed and with dd2 age 3. Now I call nhs direct this week as I gave dd1 one dose too many by accident and they said not to worry but the latest goverment advice was not to alternate between the two medicines and just stick to one??? They saod this is because they dont know the long term affects this could have - great, I been doing that with dd1 since she was born.

sazlocks · 27/10/2009 14:00

CTOFN - we have a 3 wheeler with pump up tyres and when one went flat we took it to our local cycle shop and they fixed it no bother - try this before you buy something new.

Oh dear... current trip to MW did not go well.
Student MW did bloods, unfortunatley not very well, and ended up squirted blood on my jeans, traumatising the boys. I had warned them they were taking blood, but didn't think that I'd end up squirting it! DS2 thought I might die.

After that she got me to lie down to check baby's heartbeat, but bub was being very wriggly and she was having to chase around. I was finding it really hard to breathe though, and ended up getting really dizzy and almost passed out. Actual MW then pointed out to student the dangers of leaving a mum on her back as the pressure from the baby cuts off several major arteries.

I did ask about the groin pain, but she said it was normal... I can't help feeling that they just wanted to get rid of me by then.

somewhathorrified · 27/10/2009 16:49

OMG sockmonkey! I know that students need to practice but please some training b4 hand for goodness sake! The thing about being on your back's a bit weird, I've heard this before and ergo try to sleep on my side yet always end up sleeping on my back, I just find it more comfy. Good news on the groin pain tho.

Ctofn, hope you get inflated soon, if all else fails could you buy some more wheels somewhere?

I'm so knackered today and have failed to do anything at all, I don't know how you working peeps manage it..hats off to you all!

CantThinkofFunnyName · 27/10/2009 17:19

HOORAH HOORAH!!!! What a palava! Went to Mothercare. Am told that I have the Urban Detour model, around 5 yrs old. They tried to pump tyres, with a pump that fitted - no joy. No air going or staying in. Was told need 3 new inner tubes. So they tried to order them via the manufacturer. Then a bright spark at the desk decided to phone the manufacturer just to double check that they would fit. Was told definitely NO as size of tyres/inner tubes etc have changed in last 5 years. Was then told Oh well, a new pushchair then! A kind lady at the desk winked at me and said, they sell inner tubes for this size tyre at Halfords over the road. So I trekked over to Halfords (2nd Halfords today), they couldn't help me because the bike dept was upstairs with no customer lift and as i'm on crutches pushing a heavy buggy - couldn't be done.

Went to a 3rd Halfords of the day in another town on way home, feeling v deflated. They said to me, of course we can supply and fit new inner tubes for you. But hey, let's try pumping up these first. For all 3 to be flat sounds like flat tyres only. They came out with a very basic contraption, pumped up all 3 tyres perfectly and I now have a fully operational travel system - HOORAH .

Thought it was all going to pot earlier - now v happy!!!!!

somewhathorrified · 27/10/2009 18:07

ctoafn grats, thats great...although I'd have stern words for the 2nd Halfords, did they not offer to get someone from upstairs to at least come down to speak to you?

CantThinkofFunnyName · 27/10/2009 18:47

Well, 2nd Halfords did say, oh there's only one person up there. We can try to phone them if you want. To which I replied, yes please! They phoned, no answer and a shrug to me. I walked out. F**kwits.

somewhathorrified · 27/10/2009 20:36

That's ridiculous. I'd contact halfords and let them know that said store was 'unhelpful' towards an obviously physically struggling person...would they have been more co-operative if you'd been in a wheelchair! Sorry I just think it's completely unacceptable for them to treat you like that.

Mama2b5 · 27/10/2009 21:21

Horror stories - blood and unhelpful shop assistants whilst dealing with SPD on crutches, swine flu jabs and sick children! booo!
I love being pregnant but also thinks its sucks abit have way to many things to consider and think about and the choices all fall on me!

Must confess whilst out today had alot of peole being really thoughtful and even had buses and taxis stopping for me to allow me to cross the road, also got fast tracked in a queue in Primark today, gift vouchers from mothercare- so no complaints today!

Am now thinking about what form of transport my baby will be sporting in the new year!

CantThinkofFunnyName · 28/10/2009 07:28

Ouch ouch ouch ouch. Period style cramps since 6am and now BH with pain (mild). Having experienced true full blown contractions, I know the difference BUT I detest people who DONT have painful Braxton Hicks - it's just not fair !

Why does my body not react well to pregnancy? Humph.
