Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Fraochsmum · 21/10/2009 14:35

Hello there, I was actually going to ask about the swine flu vaccine and what everyone here thinks of it. I haven't put too much thought to it, but it is back in the headlines today an I believe that 2 pregnant women, with no underlying health problems, have died now. The only 'at risk' category I fall in to is being pregnant, and I have heard 2 health professionals say they wouldn't have it. They are people I know btw, not my mw & gp! My BIL works for the Sunday Express and is phoning soon for an interview about it, but think I might be too 'sit-on-the-fece at the moment.

FifiForgot · 21/10/2009 14:40

Afternoon all.

CTOFN - glad you are feeling better. I love autumn too - all those lovely leaves and hearty stews - yum!

flyingma - I'm suffering from the same thing, I'm having to eat little and often, which means meals at some very odd times!

shinybaubles - I sometimes think that your body knows better than your mind what it wants. I have days when I don't eat anything like enough of my 5 a day (meaning none!!). At the moment, all I want is Smoked Haddock Chowder (NCG only!). DH came home with Tesco's finest version - just doesn't do it!

I've been to the midwife this morning. Everything is fine, but I'm measuring 2cms bigger than I should, but she seemed to think that it was the way the baby is lying.

Quirkychick - the midwife said that I was able to have a swine flu jab, but it was totally up to me. She wasn't very forthcoming about the pros and cons, so I might make and appointment with my GP to discuss it. My instinct is to say no, but then what happens if I catch it?! I hate being pregnant - all these decisions! I think I might have a read of the Swine Flu thread.

I've been visiting the school DD will be attending next September this morning. She really doesn't seem old enough to be going to school - I was quite emotional, my baby is growing up. I've had the day off today and was tempted to keep her at home with me, but then I wouldn't have managed to get any rest!

flyingma · 21/10/2009 15:06

bethoo Any luck with boots? My only flat pair are starting to get too tight...

Fifi be warned that not only is that thread long but it is also quite convulated. I wasn't any the wiser having read it but it moved me from a no to a maybe. I am still undecided and was hoping that by the time the vaccines actually made it to my GP, I might have finished with work and prepare to lockdown at home.

I asked the MW today about it and she said it wasn't really for them to advise either which way, said something about high risk groups (underlying health reasons and working for the NHS/ young children) which I am not. She also (which has also been mentioned in the thread) said that personal hygiene (need to buy more of that antibacterial-alcohol stuff) and common sense (staying away from ill ppl) is the best method of prevention as a general rule of thumb.

somewhathorrified · 21/10/2009 17:28

I'm really hoping I don't get asked (by MW) about the swine flu jab. I just can't make a descision on it. Knowing the NHS though the I can hope that it won't be available until Feb...that way I won't have to think about it. I'm hopeless, I know!

What is it about being pregnant and chocolate? I've never been that bothered about it before (nice but not essential) nowadays everytime I see an advert for the stuff I'm scouring the house for some I missed earlier. Not good .

Got 2 day old stew for dinner though, I love how it just gets better the older it is.

Mama2b5 · 21/10/2009 19:17

Hi all,

Glad sickness has passed CTOFN! yeh!!!!!
I tried to not watch the baby programs but then had to turn over just to see a women getting a massive needle put in her back! great timimg i thought- Not!
MY DH thinks im mad but i say regarding of how i feel this baby is going to need to get out one way or the other!
Told my work mate that im here until nov so they are all asking what baby gifts i want!
i aint got a clue! vouchers i think from next maybe good!
I decided not to get the swine flu dont feel at risk so why bother!sometimes i believe the news and press make people go into panic mode when you really dont have to! i have children in school at different levels im still at work with the public but im so not worried, im more concerned of the side effects that can happen if i get it on my baby! but thats just me and how i feel!
i have decided to have the school half term off and spend it with the kids -oh boy i might regret it but with DD making college choices and DS last year of primary school i think i need to chill for a bit and get my head about whats going to happen next year after this baby is born!

Mama2b5 · 21/10/2009 19:21

opps i meant to say the swine flu jab

devotion · 21/10/2009 20:10

Good evening all!

Bit of a "me me" post here but my friend just went home who had visited with her two boys.

Just before she went she pointed out my growing belly to her three year old. I joked showing him it saying, "does it look like i've eaten too many cakes?". He was amazed by the size of it and said "wow!". My friend then said "there is a little baby in there", then before i knew it he just pounced on me with both hands and really pushed my tummy in with both hands. He did it too quick before my freind or I could react. It hurt and instantly made me feel like i was about vomit.

It was not his fault, he was just wired up.

But now I am worried, I still feel queasy.

Do you think I am worrying to much, I have felt a few movements since he went home.

They are protected well in there, poor little baby must have had a real shock. Getting an agressive shove like that.

I know I am prob being silly but thought i'd come on here.

Fraochsmum · 21/10/2009 21:35

Oh Devotion that must have been a hell of a shock, not to mention painful! I'm afraid I can't offer any words of advice being my first time, but I'm sure baby will be well protected enough. And it will be reassuring to feel them moving about, but if you still are feeling unsure you might want to call a mw to check.
The dogs have caught me out a few times and my neice jumped up last week but luckily my arm was in the way. It really gives you a jolt though so you have my sympathies.
I am getting an ongoing telling off at the mo from DH for having a big bruise across my bump

chickbean · 21/10/2009 21:55

Devotion - I get climbed on all over by DS1 who is 3 - elbows, knees, everything - I'm just assuming that, although painful, our bodies are designed to cope with a fair amount. I had the same when expecting DS2 - DS1 was a year younger, but still remember it being quite painful - and all was fine.

lilacpink · 21/10/2009 22:28

Hi Devotion,
I think you'l be fine, although the first time around I would have worried. Like Chickbean I have a 3 year old regularly feeling my bump. Sometimes she gives him a good wiggle about, but I know from midwives having a good 'feel' about with her that it should be fine. At my last appointment my midwife even said "I don't know why I'm trying to find his position, at this stage there's so much fluid they just bounce about". In the last few weeks when there's less fluid compared with baby, I'm going to be a bit more careful with my DD, as I think this is the stage where a baby could have more of a shock if knocked, although they still have fluid and womb & fat/muscle layers around them. The first time around I worried most of the time that any big movement would start labour, only to then go overdue by 2 weeks and feel that nothing would get it going (went on to natural labour)

maygirl · 21/10/2009 22:42

I also get climbed all over by my 3 year old. The bump kicks him back! Hope not a sign of things to come!!! Do feel very protective of bump in public recently though.

I'm thinking of getting a doula for the birth tattyt, they do 1-2 postnatal visits too as part of the antenatal package.

Had to collect DS1 early from nursery today as he felt ill, he threw up all over hall as walked in, nearly into my open handbag, now that would have been hideous! Lucky not feeling nauseous as huge mess to clear up as it was. He was fine again however within a few hours of cuddling in front of Cbeebies, and was usual chirpy self by tea time. Think had a sore ear and car journey made him sick, hope not tummy bug, and fingers crossed I won't catch anything.
Glad you're feeling better ctofn and enjoy half term mama2b5

maygirl · 21/10/2009 22:49

I worried too first time lilacpink, then also went 2 weeks overdue and tried doing a Pasha dance exercise DVD to bounce him out.

It didn't work but DH got a shock when he got home from work, was a hot day so doing it in bra and hotpants (well all the pasha girls were wearing them!) with a 42 week bump !

CantThinkofFunnyName · 22/10/2009 09:20

Devotion - I think you have everyone's sympathies here. It's my 3rd and I would have been concerned too, but that's probably because I've never existing children at an age where they climb all over the bump. I have a friend who I keep trying to encourage onto this thread, who has an 18 month toddler and I'm sure she has her fair share of climbing, prodding etc - but what a shock for you! I bet your friend was mortified too wasn't she?

Just to echo everyone else, if you feel a slow up on movements, or none at all and do feel odd/queasy/crampy etc, call your MW or your hospital maternity unit for advice asap. They won't mind at all and will feel happier to check you over. Chin up

lilacpink · 22/10/2009 21:13

Devotion I hope you feel well & everything is ok.

Maygirl I will have to try out that dance if go over this time, last time I tried pineapple, raspberry leaf tablets, sex (but gave up quickly at 42 wks!), and even got my husband to drive routes where there are speedbumps .

Mama2b5 · 23/10/2009 06:27

Hi friends, yes i call you friends for i feel so blessed to have found you all so very much( heart felt sigh and

i finally decided that November is my last full month of work -YEH!!!!!!!!!!
i have been told by HR to use my leave before i depart so that will cover December and beginning of Jan!!!

Devotion hope your feeling better im sure lil one has confirmed that all is well!
Maygirl - wish me luck as staying with the kids at this time may come with its own set of problems!!!!!and demands on cash to do things daily is not any fun!they eat so much more when home WHY??????????

sockmonkey · 24/10/2009 16:15

Well, I have one less worry now. DH has finally checked into paternity leave, and he gets 1 week full pay, with the option of a 2nd week at half pay... but he says he has saved a week of holidays, so he can have 2 weeks off and we won't loose any money. Phew.

Took DS1 to docs yesterday about his throat, but after 3 days of not being able to talk, he suddenly got his voice back on the bus there. Made me look like a neurotic mother, but good to know he didn't have a chest/throat infection.

Anyone else get groin pain if they walk too far? I don't remember this happening before.

CantThinkofFunnyName · 24/10/2009 17:00

Sockmonkey - hate to be a scare monger but the groin pain if you walk too far could be mild SPD... If its not too bad, bascically don't walk too far, keep your knees together at all times when standing, rolling in bed, getting in and out of car, watch how you bend down to get things etc and hopefully should be manageable. If it gets worse, talk to mw or GP to get diagnosed and physio for it.

Fraochsmum · 24/10/2009 21:22

That is really good sockmonkey, my DP only gets 2 weeks of statutory paternity pay i.e. £123 per week. He is just going to take holidays instead because of the drop in pay, luckily he has 8 weeks per year so it's not too bad. He is going to take the 2nd and 3rd week after birth, because my mum/his parents etc will be here constantly for the first week!
Got my info through about hypno-birthing today, starts a week on wednesday. We have to pay £20 for the cd and book, but is refunded if we return them after the birth. Pretty good deal I reckon!
Enjoy your extra hour everyone x

CantThinkofFunnyName · 25/10/2009 09:12

My DH gets 2 days paternity leave!!!! He works for a Guernsey based company so the UK rules don't apply.

I thought I'd had a lovely little lie-in this morning..... and when I got downstairs realised that the clocks had gone back and I theoretically, I hadn't had a lie-in at all. So - pg hormones in overdrive, that made me a bit grumpy .

somewhathorrified · 25/10/2009 10:56

No paternity pay here either, DH is an agency HGV driver, because he has such varied working hrs it's doubtful there's going to be any from any statutory pay either. Hey but on the bright side my HiP grant came through

I don't get pain when walking but bump seems to bounce on bladder heavily and I feel I may pee just a little, kinda of end up waddling with crossed legs I did wonder if this was some sort of infection. Also is anyone else finding it difficult to get comfy in bed nowadays, even with a bump pillow?

Fraochsmum · 25/10/2009 11:56

God guys that's such a shame and here's me moaning cause mine "only" gets SPP
CTOFN - just put it the way that you did get a lovely lie-in, but now also have an extra hour in the day!
I'm not getting pain when walking a lot, but get uncomfortable after a while of standing still. Bending over is certainly getting more difficult tho...
Just got a bit of a shock when I checked my weight there - haven't put on any extra since at least 3 weeks ago ,in fact I was slightly less than before. Baby measured spot on at last appointment and I'm still feeling lots of movement, is the weight thing quite normal?
30 weeks tomorrow , starting to really feel like I need to get organised now.

sockmonkey · 25/10/2009 16:43

Man that sucks about paternity for you two. Here's me stressing, but I guess I am very well off really.

Somewhat Last night was pretty bad, had killer heartburn, kept getting cramp, baby doing kung-fu moves on my internal organs, plus DS2 was up a couple of times, DH snoring cos he has a cold... as well as the normal trips to the loo. Ahh, only 12 more weeks of that till the proper disturbed nights kick in

I got my HiP grant, was going to treat myself to some new boots, but ended up buying a pram & 2 new car seats for the boys. Ah well... there's always Christmas.

Mama2b5 · 25/10/2009 17:17

Hi all, well i hear all the issues with leave my gosh its such a pain! My DH is self employed and so he will be around as long as he doesnt get on my nerves!!!!
The sleepless nights has started i toss about at night then just decide to get up then feel shattered in he day! my pilllow is no help!
I have been feeling emotional and find myself crying missing my mummy!

Ahh boy im off with the kids and thinking i should of booked a short break it could be along time for us to have another one when baby comes! oh well im sure the kids will enjoy it more then me!

Is anyone having a baby shower? my friends wanted it to be Nov due to christmas coming and lack of money after, but i believe its far to early?

sazlocks · 25/10/2009 20:12

Evening all
We have sorted out our hypnobirthing refresher course which will be in Nov.
My DH has sorted out his leave and will be off for a month after the baby is born. I feel very spoilt to have that much support.
I have been in discussions with the midwifery peops at our local hosp and its looking like the only medically advisable option is to give birth in the consultant led unit where they won't support a water birth
DS not very well this weekend and now DH going down with same so its all a bit miserable in this house.
Hope everyone else had a nice weekend

OP posts:
shinybaubles · 26/10/2009 08:38

Hi everyone hope you all had good weekends. We went to visit pil's which was a 4 hour drive each way in one day - not sure I will be doing that again before the baby is born.
Has anyone else been having quite painful Braxton Hicks, I have had them this weekend and they have left me gasping.
