I will be (hopefully). Struggled to get started with DS but got it eventually and managed to keep going till 6 months. HV told me I had to stop at this point cause DS stopped putting on weight.

I'm hoping it'll be easier with DD

Wasn't even going to get any bottles or emergency formula cause I'm so determined to get it right this time but DH reminded me that as it may very well be christmas day when we're struggling that maybe this wasn't the best idea! Any other time of the year we have a 24 hour Tesco nearby but even that will be closed over Christmas.

so I got 2 pink bottles yesterday (telling myself they'll be useful for EBM) then got chatting to the checkout lady on the way out who decided, as everyone does, that the sonographer must have been mistaken cause bump is too low to be a girl.

Ah well, if they're all right, a pink bottle for a day or two won't do any harm!

ArghhhhmazingBouncingSpider · 16/10/2009 10:04

Ok its official. I was 64kg (10 stone) at booking in appt, im now 61kg (9.6 stone)
No wonder everyone keeps saying im all bump, its because the rest of me is not so slowly shrinking away!

Snitch... A shop CLOSED at CHRISTMAS?!
I wish ELC would take a leaf out of their books and maybe we would get some decent time off at this time of year!!
(not allowed annual leave during Nov and Dec and the only official days off are Christmas day and New Years Day )

And poor you still getting those awful comments I'd be so tempted to slap them and blame hormones!

TheBlairSnitchProject · 16/10/2009 10:12

My sister works for Waterstones and hs the same issues with Christmas holidays. She refuses to go out for Christmas dinner because she feels so bad for the people working - which is fair enough.

BTW Did you have any vouchers left Arghhh? My voucher isn't valid in Mothercare and I need to get some extra bedding for the DC's...

Scorps · 16/10/2009 10:15

I'm definitely breastfeeding, why are you in two minds?remind me which dc this is for you?

I will get a carton of formula just incase, as it will be Xmas but I only plan on using it if absolutely and totally nessecary. Would rather express.

Nice name, whoever said anna.

anniebigpants · 16/10/2009 10:50

Bex-lovely name you have chosen there.

Arghhh-would love one of your Mothercare vouchers if any going spare? Thank you.

Re weight gain-i gained 2st 7lb with DS by term, this time ive gained 12lb so far and have 6 and a half weeks to go, so fairly happy with that.

Re breastfeeding-i had real problems breastfeeding DS, he was born by em CS and ive since read that can affect milk production etc. I lasted 3 weeks, 3 long hard weeks before i got myself in such a state, had mastitis as well, DH marched off to the shop and brought formula back, DS thrived from then on, but i felt such a failure
I do intend to try my hardest to succesfully bf this time, i intend going along to the local bf support group before i have this baby, maybe couple of weeks before for advice and to observe correct holding, and latch etc.

Hope all are well, the weeks are flying by now!

ArghhhhmazingBouncingSpider · 16/10/2009 11:49

ok, scorps snitch and Anniebigpants definitely want a voucher,
My email is [email protected]

They are paper form unfortunately so I will have to post them to you!

TheBlairSnitchProject · 16/10/2009 12:48

Thankyou very much Arghhh

I'll e-mail you my address...

anniebigpants · 16/10/2009 12:51

lovely, thanks Arghh

Will email my address to you now.

BlueChampagne · 16/10/2009 12:57

Definitely breastfeeding - hopefully an easier start than last time as one of us has done it before. Mind you, don't think I've met anyone so far who didn't have a few problems starting out BFing their first DC. Good luck with your second attempt AnnieBP.

'waist' 40" at 32 weeks.

TheBlairSnitchProject · 16/10/2009 13:05

I had an EMCS last time too annie I definietly think it affects your milk at first.

I think the support group is a great idea too, especially going beforehand. I went when DS was a few days old but I think I picked the wrong group. While they were lovely, they were all proper earth mothers who actually told me that women were supposed to give birth standing in fields with no pain relief - so I felt like a complete failiure after my section!!

At least if you check them out before the birth, you can gauge how supportive they're actually going to be.

I'll be having a section this time too and will be BF-ing. Like you, I'm hoping the fact that I have a bit of a clue what I'm doing this time might help us both

madmissy · 16/10/2009 13:20

snitch not this time though ay we will have ever so organized birth plans

BF i bf dd1 for 6 months no probs what so ever with dd2 depression affected me badly and i did not feed her, i tried when she was born apparently (can't rem )

but this time i have no idea what to do....

anniebigpants · 16/10/2009 13:23

I would just see how you feel when this LO is born madmissy re feeding. im certainly not going to beat myself up this time if bf fails.

TheBlairSnitchProject · 16/10/2009 13:25

Did you like that idea? Hope it helps if you do one.

You'll be so chilled and calm and relaxed this time, you'll be able to BF no probs

ArghhhhmazingBouncingSpider · 16/10/2009 13:30

give birth standing in a field...
I couldnt possibly, I would be too afraid of the cows.

madmissy · 16/10/2009 13:34

pmsl at the cows and in a field.. bet that they actually all had hosp births with epidural at first chance!

sparklycheerymummy · 16/10/2009 13:42

to be honest i am getting stressed about how i will feed baby..... having nightmares that my nipples are 10cms long and baby cant get near me adn that i am feeing everywhere and i feel under great pressure. I had some sort of psychosis with dd1 and managed 3 days. just read an article in mother and baby magazine about hoe bottle fed babies are being put at risk because there is no suport as midwives darent support you and arent suppose to give you advice re sterilising etc. i would love to bf and be successful but i know my mental health is the key issue..... if bf is successful i am sure i will feel fab but ultimately being right in my head and making sure babe is not hungry..... however i do it is most important..... when people KEEP asking me about how i am going to feed babe i just say....."thought its mouth..... why is there another way?????!!" I hope i dont get shot down but i do feel there is a lot of pressure on us...... we all know bf is best but feeling you have let your babe down if its not possible is an awful feeling!!!!!

Claire236 · 16/10/2009 13:50

I'm going to try to bf. Really struggled with ds1 who was early & had jaundice. All depends on whether this one hangs on for a reasonable amount of time although all signs are still good so far. Fingers crossed.

I've put on somewhere around 1 stone which is less than with ds1 but I'm definitely bigger which is peculiar. Can't be bothered to think too much about it though.

Picking up our new car in 2 weeks time which I'm very excited about.

sparklycheerymummy · 16/10/2009 13:51

when i had my dd there was a woman who was doing self hypnosis..... she just kept humming and rolling around on a birthing ball..... ended up with the works!!!! The humming was VERY annoying!!!!

Catz · 16/10/2009 13:52

Just calling in, it's moving so quickly now that by the time I've caught up I don't usually have time to post!

Sorry to hear about the problems last time madmissy. Hope things go well this time. If I were you I'd see how things go when your LO is born and keep an open mind.

We had problems bf for the first week last time (weight loss - her not me! - sleepy baby etc) but a visit to a drop in clinc at the hosp for a couple of hours managed to turn things round. I'm going to get all the info on what is open on which days (esp over Christmas) sorted out soon. So many of my friends have had problems and not managed to get any decent help until its become a bit of a crisis.

Catz · 16/10/2009 13:57

see -it's moving so quickly that there were 6 new posts between me starting mine and pressing 'post message'!

Am 33 weeks today and just picked up a load of raspberry leaf tea and some almond oil for perineal massage. Drank loads of the tea last time and did lots of the massage but ended up 5 days late with ventouse and episiotomy - mind you I don't know what it would have been like without so am giving them both a go again. Can't remember when you are supposed to start on the tea or the massage - anyone else doing either?

ArghhhhmazingBouncingSpider · 16/10/2009 13:59

Catz I was wondering when to start on the rasberry cat piss, I couldnt remember when I did last time.
I was going to get some of that perineal oil from mothercare (honestly im not plugging it!!) is almond oil just the same?

I was 2 days late but got things started (I think) with a big carton of pineapple juice made from concentrate!

sparklycheerymummy · 16/10/2009 14:00

not sure i need to..... they didnt stitch me up too well last time but maybe should...... where do you get the oil from......not keen on herbal teat.....is this raspberry leaf stuff ok????

ArghhhhmazingBouncingSpider · 16/10/2009 14:01

BTW the cat piss comment was in no way connected to your nickname didnt realise the similarity until I posted!

sparklycheerymummy · 16/10/2009 14:01

teat..... i meant tea

ArghhhhmazingBouncingSpider · 16/10/2009 14:05

Lol herbal teat. Thought it was a brand new thing all organic earth mother breastfeeders were aspiring to. Herbal Teats available at your local health food store.
