As we all talk so fast the last thread is nearly full so thought I would start us off on a new one

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

jardins I've been having more headaches recently too and don't mention the peeing! I've never been a great one for paracetemol was more of an Ibuprofen person, so atm I don't take anything and just mope feeling sorry for myself. You can always try a cold compress on your head, it can help for a bit, other than that it's just about trying to figure out why you get them...food intolerance, dehydration, stress.

jardins · 21/07/2009 12:15

Dear Somewhathorrified thanks for your answer. Snap re: ibuprofen. I just KNOW when I normally get a headache Nurofen does the trick. I shouldn't know paracetamol cos we're lucky we can have that at least, but still.....

I'm sorry you're feeling sorry for yourself too. I guess mine could be stress related, although I'm a little sheepish here 'cos it would seem I get stressed about less these days. WHAT A WIMP! I've ordered a bottle of Floradix incase I get anaemic. I'll check with my doctor re iron levels in blood tests but they looked ok to my uneducated eye.

Are you still feeling nauseous?

Is anybody else out there plagued with headaches?

jardins · 21/07/2009 12:16

Oops, that should read 'I shouldn't KNOCK paracetamol'.

totalmisfit · 21/07/2009 12:55

yep, i've definitely had more headaches than usual - and it can't just be down to my mumsnet addiction gluing me to the computer screen! that '4Head' stuff you can get from the chemist and rub on helps a little bit if paracetamol doesn't do the trick. It's more of a distraction than anything else due to the slight burnign sensation, but hey ho...

I think i've started to feel 'bean' or 'ricky hatton' as i've renamed him/her, as last night he/she was going ten rounds on my bladder - amazing how much i could feel it, given that i'm only 14 weeks tomorrow. mind you, i had just eaten half a box of Thorntons' chocs and had a very sneaky, and very small glass of bubbly as was dh's birthday.

At the moment i'm swinging wildly between worrying myself about dd or myself getting swine flu and reasoning that it's essentially just flu, and that the statistics for how many people are infected are inherently flawed since GPs started diagnosing anyone with a sore throat and a temperature over the phone.

Part of me thinks 'just wait till the winter the world'll come to an end esp as you'll be in your last trimester' and the more cynical part is saying 'it's 90% media hype and government scaremongering, nearly everyone you've heard of has who's had it has said it's like a bad cold, and you don't even know for certain that they did have it anyway'. It's a weirdly ambiguous place to be.

crumpette · 21/07/2009 13:11

timmette I am constantly getting up in the night, it's really annoying me, has been happening since before I even had a positive test!!! With DD it only happened really late in the pregnancy so i wasn't expecting this.. grr

and the headaches jardins my god they are bad, mainly behind my eyes kind of headaches, sort of migrainey but not full-full-blown but similarly debilitating. I havent taken any painkillers at all but I have found, sometimes, that lying down with a fan on and then eating something carb-laden seems to help a bit. It tends to take a long time to pass though, and is worse in the evenings (when I get back from hell work!)

weird

this is a weird question, but has anyone heard anything about those DNA tests that tell you, supposedly, if it is a girl or a boy by you giving thema blood sample? Sounds plausible but tres expensive, just wondered if anyone knew anyone who had done it and had a right/wrong result?

bethoo · 21/07/2009 13:29

totalmisfit i am with you on tht one! i h ave had my chld minder ringing me constantly telling me to get my son out of creche now due to the manager having swine flu though i have called and apparatnly it is a cold! but my childminder is currently suffering from hysteria! i swear it is like the witch trials all over again here! mothers are not leaving the house and as soon as their child has a runny nose they are calling the gp and being given bloody flu treatment! will nto be surprised if there is none left for the actual sufferers of swine flu!
and how can it be flu if you can still walk about? when i had flu the once i could barely move so surely it is not the flu??

crumpette · 21/07/2009 13:34

I heard today that to ascertain the difference between flu, cold, and swine flu, with the former you will walk down the street and see a dropped £50 note and you will pick it up.. with the latter, you will be far too ill to even contemplate picking it up

My employer has just ordered a whole load of laptops, and lots of desks are empty- there is a theory that some are off with sf and all the many laptops are so people can carry on working when ill at home (damnit!)

totalmisfit · 21/07/2009 13:43

exactly bethoo, we all had flu in march and literally felt knocked flat by it.

crumpette i think they should make that test part of a public service announcement to stop the worried well clogging the NHS up. perhaps a 70's 'green cross code' style cartoon featuring anthropomorphic characters and the voice of Stephen Fry...

bethoo · 21/07/2009 13:50

crumpette surely you cant have swine flu if you are working on a cmputer as i find having a headache makes it unbearable looking at the screen!

i read another thread and it makes me thik it is such a hype, the medias way of guaranteeing their papers will sell! it si ridiculous. and it is almost encouraging people to call in with a snotty nose as gps dont want contact with you in case it is swine flu so they jsut give you tamiflu prescription! i doubt if anyone living here has actually had it as it tends to be in the larger more overcrowded places like London, Birmingham. my sis had iot but then she is a school teacher in London. it just semes that having a cold is enough evidence that it is possibl smine flu! in that case i have had it!

bethoo · 21/07/2009 13:52

and i think the only reason they diagnose you over the phone and suggest it prob is is becasue can you imagine the waiting room filled with healthy people with a sore throat demanding to see a doctor straight away when there are really sick people also requiring attention, and not just those with the real flu but with other illnesses!
sorry for the rant and outrageous spelling!

maygirl · 21/07/2009 14:06

crumpette, not heard of the boy/girl DNA blood tests, but I know you carry fetal cells in your bloodstream years after a pregnancy. So if you've had a boy before, I can't see how they'd determine a second child's sex as first boy's Y's would still be floating around! I used to work with a guy doing his phd enriching fetal cells from maternal blood, with a view to developing non-invasive testing, but can't remember if he had thoughts on how to overcome issue of previous pregnancies.

Got a headache today too, tired and sicky and came home at lunchtime from work for a duvet day! On sofa with large slab choc. Not feeling too guilty, I track sickness and hols at work and I'm the only person who has so far had no time off ill/with ill child in the 18 mths since we started the project, despite having a toddler. Just needed a few hours rest at home on my own, DH and DS free today. About to have a nice nap!

No night time wee probs so far, also have large bladder capacity not effected by pregnancy. Paid for it in last few weeks of preg last time though, huge bladder fighting for space with huge bump, baby seemed to cut off my bladder outlet and could only wee on hands and knees, holding bump up with one arm and potty in the other, Oh the glamour!

louii · 21/07/2009 14:07

Hi ladies, can I join??

I am 13 weeks pregnant with my second child, due 29th January.

I am feeling terrible at the minute with constant nausea, hopefully be recovered soon.

maygirl · 21/07/2009 14:14

I hope your DD will be ok and the treatments work for her alibobins . And that you feel better soon too.

Hi louii.

maygirl · 21/07/2009 14:19

Oh, and have heard baby's heart beat on my own doppler at 12+5! Lovely sound, don't get to see midwife until 16 weeks this time round, so was reassuring to do my own check!

Think 'illness' has been cured by the mega cadbury's fruit n nut bar. Starting to feel slightly guilty I left work now!

timmette · 21/07/2009 14:41

Glad to hear I am not the only one peeing loads.
Never heard of those gender tests crumpette have another scan tomorrow so will see if her original theory of it being a girl is right am very excited and swear I have been feeling little movemnets - but that's probably an indication of my lack of stomach muscles.
Not having headaches but did have them with ds am just suffering from permamnent exhaustion.

Dizzyclarebear · 21/07/2009 15:11

Hello Louii! Hope you're feeling ok...

also peeing loads.

Re the laptops, it could be as if you get diagnoised with SF even if you're not bad (some people it's like a nasty cold) you should stay at home for 2 weeks, if you feel well enough to work after 1, then you can work from home for the other week...

Also going to look into this for our work - just seen on the Guardian website Government plans for if we get to 1 in 3 with SF. Pregnant woman will be advised to stay at home/away from crowds. It's expected this will be in early Autumn if it happens, so thought I'd check now with IT if I can be given remote access so it's not a shock to them if it happens. (Although the idea of having another month or so off work does appeal )

devotion · 21/07/2009 16:12

Hello

I went for my 12 week scan today and thought by dates I was 12 weeks today but I was told I am 12+6. So my due date has gone from 2nd Feb to 27th Jan.

I have been on the Feb thread but thought I should jump on here too because my other children came on time and I cant imagine going five days over with my third.

I have two girls ages 6 and 3.

Still shocked my dates have changed so much, means I ovualated less than a week after my af - dont get it???

Anyway look forward to speaking to you all.

x

sockmonkey · 21/07/2009 16:27

Hello and welcome Louii and devotion.

lynneevans51 · 21/07/2009 16:51

Welcome Louii and Devotion. Headache sufferers - I'm one too!!! Ibuprofen was in my handbag constantly - hate paracetemol, doesn't even touch the headaches. Ah well - another moan for today....

alibobins · 21/07/2009 17:27

Welcome louii and devotion
Doctor said just a cold lol

The nurse has been tonight to give dd her injection and she was a little star.

Not seeing midwife till next week i'll be just over 17 weeks and haven't seen her since booking in appointment so hoping I can here babies heart beat.

lynneevans51 · 21/07/2009 17:43

I just spent the day cooking the most fabulous chicken stew and dumplings - really is/was good, just like mum used to make. But the bloody kids don't like it! How can they not like it???? Just because they haven't had it before. Humph. Really given me the raving hump. I tell you it will be served for breakfast if they don't clear their plates!!!

sunshinejanuary · 21/07/2009 18:39

Afternoon you lovely lot.

Lynne - how weird, i have JUST put a chicken casserole on for tonight and was looking through the cupboard for the dumppling stuff! Great minds...

Welcome Louii and Devotion, the more the merrier!

As for weeing in the night - check
Still feeling sick - check
Does this go on forever?!

My sister sent me the guardian article at work today, i am sure i will be asked to work at home if this all kicks off, to be honest, my office is open plan so i would probably get more done. Although a lot of temptation at home, like a bed to nap in!

sleepingalot · 21/07/2009 19:28

Evening ladies,

I'll join the peeing club - was up 4 times last night & have been shattered all day!

I'll also join headache club - didn't know they got more frequent in pregnancy. I find sipping lots of water and lying in dark quiet room eases it a little. I seem to get them when have been rushed off my feet with work and not have time to snack...like I've become accustomed to recently. So could be related to not eating often enough or being overworked! (Note to self: Work less, eat more!)

lol at maygirl peeing on hands and knees.

Hi and welcome louii and devotion.

SuiGeneris · 21/07/2009 20:12

Hello, may I join you too? I have been lurking for weeks, but avoided joining officially not to tempt fate. Nonsense, I know, and I am not even superstitious normally.

I am 14 weeks today, due on 19 Jan and definitely in the headaches and nausea club. Oddly, the nausea has become much worse since week 12, when I thought it was supposed to begin improving, and over the last three or four days the headaches have started too. Decided to work from home until things get better, but worried colleagues will think I am exploiting the situation (colleagues are mostly men or women without children). On the other hand, yesterday I finished a concall at 6.45 and was in bed by 7, so I think the alternative would be to take time off sick, not to go to the office (and work).

FifiForgot · 21/07/2009 21:07

Hi all

I'm back from the lovely sunny and warm South of France to grey clouds and rain - I should have stayed where I was!

I can't believe that we have another thread already - I haven't managed to catch up with the other one, so I'm sorry if I have missed anything important.

I am also suffering from awful headaches complete with flashing lights and nausea, all I can do is lie down in a dark room and try and sleep them off. They are happening every day, normally in the afternoons, even while I was on holiday. I'm going to see my GP on Thursday to see if she can offer any solutions, but I suspect that they are hormone (and stress/tiredness) related, I had them with DD.

We have our 12 week (well 13 week really) scan on Thursday, I'm beginning to worry that something is wrong because the awful sickness has worn off somewhat! But on the "plus" side, the headaches have now started, so I am getting all worked up over nothing!

Right, I am off to catch up with everyone's news

Fifi x
