As we all talk so fast the last thread is nearly full so thought I would start us off on a new one

Everyone - good morning. I found the most hilarious thread last night on MN. Highly recommend for everyone who needs a darn good laugh and/or wants to learn a few things about pg and post-birth warts and all.

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/pregnancy/780260-Well-nobody-mentioned-THAT-Things-I-never-thou ght-about-pregnancy

Took me a couple of hours to read as I just had to go through every single post. I was laughing out loud constantly....

Feeling happy and busy today. Good vibes sent to all.

somewhathorrified · 27/07/2009 11:42

haha awesome thread!

quirkychick · 27/07/2009 13:28

lynneevans I have been following that thread too, it is very funny! I think even if you've done it before there are things you forget about in pg.

I have had 2 days without being sick, hurrah! Nausea not quite gone and I still have to eat regularly to feel ok. I have started to move into the spicy food stage too. It actually makes me feel better, strange.

Happy thoughts to everyone.

lynneevans51 · 27/07/2009 15:10

And I've got real cravings for cheese & piccallili sandwiches - it repeats like hell for hours afterwards - but tee hee, it's gorgeous at the time! Starving again and only ate 2 hours ago!

sazlocks · 27/07/2009 22:22

Funny thread - thanks for the link.

Feeling loads better this week. Funny cravings for raw onion and pot noodles (yuck) - not in the same meal !
Went to see a friend with a 2 week old today. Had a lovely cuddle - made me all excited about what's to come for us all
Hope everyone well.

Morning all. My scan revealed I'm further on than first thought (or that the baby's a giant) so have updated list and moved my due date to 20th. Still feeling shocking. Trying not to fall into media trap of being paranoid about swine flu. Been referred to cardiologist and high risk antenatal clinic because of my heart. Had an op on it 2003 and not had problems since - until this pregnancy.
Interesting cravings kicking in for some of you, I see!

Is it OK for me to join this thread? I have posted on it previously under a psuedonym, LessThanIdeal, but i'm ready to out myself now

My DD is the 19th Jan, but that's by the growth scan, not my dates, going by my dates i'm a week earlier.

Dizzyclarebear · 28/07/2009 15:00

hello newbies! Soo many January babies!

Anyway - rant alert - I'm in a stroppy moo mood. We've now got 4 people off in our office with Swine Flu. One of these was being a total martyr yesterday and came in, coughing and sneezing everywhere and when I suggested she went home she just went on about how busy she was. Anyway, I think when you know there's pregnant woman in the office, it's not 'brave' it's 'bloody rude'. We've also got a woman recovering from cancer in the office who's on drugs that have distroyed her immune system. Oh I'm all at my boss for not sending ill woman home. Hate feeling vunerable...

On the plus side, got given a seat on the train this morning. Must look pregnant - or like if I didn't sit down I'd fall down...

lynneevans51 · 28/07/2009 18:04

Hey Dizzy - they is unreal! The employer should have sent the women with swine flu out of the office immediately. I would be furious even if I wasn't pregnant!!!

Welcome Deemented - good to see you both rearing heads on this thread too!!

somewhathorrified · 28/07/2009 18:14

dizzy maybe you should remind your boss that they have a 'duty of care' to all their staff!

ampster · 28/07/2009 19:31

Hello all, just updating the list as my scan put EDD at 19th rather than 16th Jan.

Glad everyone's getting on ok, esp glad for you Mowmi for being the lucky 1 of the 1 in 2!

Anyone had wierd shooting pains down left hip at all?

Hi everyone. I seemed to have lost my date on the list, so just updated it again.
I have been craving Brie, I ate loads before I fell pregnant in the hope that I wouldn't want it, but that obviously hasn't worked. My cravings are completely different this time around.
I am trying to deal with my mil at the moment, she seems hell bent on having a favourite. She always tells everyone how good the youngest one is and then how horrible it is when the other one comes home from school and tries to interfere in her games. I find myself having to stand up for dd1 all the time and trying to make up for it. Dd1 is a normal 4.5yr old girl. Anyway dd2 often wants whatever dd1 is playing with, that is just the way children often are, but the majority of the time they play so nicely together and look after eachother. Sorry for the rant, but it really hurts when she does this. She has three sons and the middle on is certainly the favourite, my parents even picked up on it the first time they met her. Aargh! I'll stop now and leave everyone in peace.

Hi all, I just reposted the list as I seem to have fallen off.

How is everyone?

I am soooo hungry these days. I can't stop eating which would probably explain my very rapidly expanding waistline (all food rather than baby).

misschatterbox I am not sure if you realise but you can eat brie if it is cooked thoroughly ... I know it's not exactly the same but it might help the craving. Am now thinking of a brie, bacon and avocado sandwich ... mmmm!

sockmonkey · 29/07/2009 10:37

What's with all the rain? My DSs are getting so restless stuck in at home. I have no money to take them out till I get paid next week.
DSis is coming down with her LOs tomorrow to bring the maternity clothes. Hopefully having some cousins to play with will help.
I'm hoping maternity stuff will help me look pregnant not just tubby.

Right - update on the swine flu in the office - my direct boss (not big office boss) has informed big boss that if another person goes down with swine flu in the office she's sending me home and so they should sort out with IT department how I can work from home. She's been great, wish she'd been in when the swine flu martyr was coughing everywhere, would have been dealt with sooner...

Also looking v v pregnant. Oh, and my boobs are getting comedy levels ! Seems to have all happened quite quickly...

ClaireDB · 29/07/2009 12:10

Off to 17 week midwife appointment in an hour! Hoping to hear the heartbeat - STILL haven't heard it, saw it on scan though so everything's fine

It's good to read about everyone's funny cravings, I haven't really got any except assorted dairy products - milk, yogurt, ice cream...

Has anyone else got really bad ligament pains at the sides and bottom of their belly? Well I assume that is what they are, I only really get them in bed sometimes but they can be really painful and so I can only lie in certain positions. Will ask the midwife...

lynneevans51 · 29/07/2009 12:36

ClaireDB - whereabouts in Herts? I'm Barnet so London/Herts borders... - due v similar times!

Anyway re ligaments - GOD YES!! Every now and again it really takes your breath away and mostly in bed. Deffo ligament pain. This is my 3rd so some of the stuff I recognise now that first time around petrified me. Still a few surprises pop up now and then though

lynneevans51 · 29/07/2009 12:40

Dizzy & Anniemac - yes look v v v pg already, but then again, I did from 8 weeks when I simply had to go into maternity clothes!! I had the same with my first and second - but this time bump is ridiculous size for 16 weeks! Apart from the obviously comments about pregnancy, when asked how far I am, everyone appears genuinely shocked and consensus is look around 6 months - FFS! Boobs now getting enormous. Quite cross as had lost 2 stone in weight and down to a svelt 9st before fell and had a breast reduction 3 years ago. What a bloody waste of time and money on both counts!!!

sockmonkey · 29/07/2009 13:20

Oh yes, Dairy and egg cravings here. Must need the protein & calcium.

I am longing for chocolate. We are at the wrong side of payday to get some at the moment. DH thinks this must be a girl cos I am not getting the same cravings as I did with the boys (coal, sticks of chalk, plaster...oh my!).

I get pains if I've been curled up in a ball watching TV or whatever then get up & stretch out. Takes my breath away sometimes. Maybe I need to stop curling up

FlightofFancy · 29/07/2009 13:34

Glad to hear there are others getting 'stretching' pains (well, not glad about pains, but glad I'm not the only one!). It's great to benefit from everyone who has been here before and knows what's 'normal' - saves me from quite a lot of panic! Have had a stinking cold which has now turned in to a cough - and can be really painful if I forget to tense stomach muscles before a good cough or sneeze!

Went in to pharmacy the other day to see if there was anything I could take for cough as it's driving me bats - thought maybe some of the linctus stuff that doesn't have any real ingredients, and you'd've thought I'd asked for heroin the reaction I got - then a long lecture on why I couldnt' take anything and had I tried honey & lemon and gently sniffing olbas oil... resisted urge to bite the pharmacist and pointed out that did he (of course it was a he) think I'd be there if I hadn't tried everything else! Did find later that a teaspoon of horseradish works a treat to clear the head!

lynneevans51 · 29/07/2009 13:54

Flightoffancy - sorry to hear about your cold - silly suggestion as no doubt you have already tried but old fashioned bowl of steaming water with dollop of Vicks in it might help... and if you think its bad now on 1st, wait til any subsequent pg - when you cough, sneeze, laugh, vomit - you'll find you've pissed yourself too TEE HEE LOL!!!

quirkychick · 29/07/2009 14:06

FlightofFancy hope you feel better soon. There was some research about just taking syrupy things being as good as cough medicine, so honey, maple syrup etc. might help if you haven't already tried.

I am definitely looking pg at 14wks. The bump properly popped out over the weekend. Clothes that were loose last week are now too small - one pair of trousers by several inches . I am now in maternity trousers with a scarf tied round so I don't have to keep hitching them up! I'm still in some looser tops so holding out on my old maternity one for the mo. Lying on my stomach is a definite no-no too. I've stopped being sick now (although need to eat often to stop nausea) so the fact I'm keeping it all down might be contributing...
