Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
essenceofSES · 20/07/2009 11:07

AAARRGH!!!

idreamofbeanie · 20/07/2009 11:14

Oh no Ses, what's wrong?

Hey Diege, 2 weeks in Whitby sounds fun and I'm def thinking you got the better deal . I haven't been working those hours every day and I can take a morning off after a long day which is why I thought I could cope. Unfortunately it's taking much longer to recover these days!

essenceofSES · 20/07/2009 11:17

Just had a phonecall from hospital. GP has referred O after his 8wk check due to his weight!
She didn't tell me she was going to do that. She said she wanted to keep an eye on it and took a copy of his chart.
At that point, he hadn't been weighed for 12 days and she didn't weigh him there and then so I didn't think she could have been that concerned.
He was weighed last Thurs and in 15 days went from 8lb 15oz (just above 2nd centile) to 9lb 15oz (just below 9th centile).
On the flip side, when he was born he was on 75th centile. Went down to 2nd and has been gaining since his Tongue was sorted. Should he have been gaining quicker to get back nearer to 75th centile?

Hospital suggested phoning GP to talk it through so I did but she's on holiday. I phoned DH and he understood my frustration but said it wouldn't do any harm to go as they've got an appointment available tomorrow.

I just feel really angry but at the same time don't want to seem to be neglecting DS. What would you do?

Diege · 20/07/2009 11:32

That's a really tough call SES. I think if it was J, I wouldn't go, but if it had been my PFB I would if that makes sense?? On the other hand, it's not as if they are going to do anything tomorrow that would effect O's weight, and as you say it's increasing nicely. Also, where I am they wait up to 12 weeks for bf babies to regain birth weight, as long as they are gaining after the initial dip, even if it's just a few ounces a week. So, hand on heart, and contradciting my advice up above, I think I actually wouldn't go...ok, so it's easy to go and no bog weight etc, but you will then be on the books and have to go regularly I would imagine. So yes, don;t go and speak to GP when she gets back from hols!! You can always get referred later if she thinks it's a concern (which it obv is not and she is a mad woman!!)

Diege · 20/07/2009 11:33

'bog weight' should read 'big wait'

essenceofSES · 20/07/2009 11:49

Thanks Diege. Hospital phoned back before I read your post so we're booked in for midday tomorrow.
His birth weight was 8lb 9oz and he was 10 wks on Sat and weighed 9lb 15oz last Thurs.
Partly feel it's all a waste of time and partly feel worried.

On the plus side he fell asleep on me downstairs so put him in his cot and he's still asleep 20mins later! I'm sitting out on the landing expressing and MNing!

Will have to be a bad mummy soon though as need to change him before going for lunch with my parents and I told them I'd pick them up between 12&12.30!

Sorry for seeming to ignore everyone. I'm not really...

sorky · 20/07/2009 12:21

I don't think there's any point in going Ses, but likewise if you're firm on what you will and will not do, then By all means go along and show willing as it were.

At this point I think I would be asking myself, "well what if he hasn't gained much weight?"
"what exactly are they going to suggest?"

FF won't increase his weight anymore than BF (see Glask for that one), you can't supplement anything or wean him he's way too young.
So actually, as long as he is gaining, why are they even remotely bothering?

The only thing I can think of that they may suggest is that they refer you to a BF counsellor to check latch and feeding.
As long as his nappies are korma-coloured and not green, then you're doing fine. You can only feed him as much as he will take!

IDOB I'm not even awake for those hours, how the hell do you work them?!?

Hello everyone!

Moosy · 20/07/2009 12:42

I don't think I'd bother going either Ses, he's gaining weight and even creeping up the centiles. Both of mine were born on the 50th, dropped to the 9th, then settled on or around the 25th, I don't think you can expect him to get all the way back up to the 75th!

I've got a hurting bottom today I was happily perched on my stool playing that silly drawing game on FB last night, then all of a sudden I was sitting on the floor! I think I must've blacked out for a second as I don't remember falling, and I've got a big bruise on my poor behind today. DH has gone to London for work today so I'm trying not to do too much in case it happens again, but the overgrown lawn is calling me........

sorky · 20/07/2009 13:40

Bloody hell Moos! Are you okay?!? Low bp again?

You rock at sketch btw

Did you see my msg about the tunic shirt I found yesterday?

Diege · 20/07/2009 15:30

Reading back over your post SES it's clear there's absolutely nothing to worry about with O's weight - I thinbk I would be tempted to cancel, as I think it's going to make you more anxious - maybe go tomorrow and just nod at them etc etc, and then don't go for any follow-ups? As others have said, what could you even do anyway?? His weight sounds fine, and all this centile talk is clearly a load of old balls . FWIW any thoughts I had of going to clinic tomorrow for weighing have gone out of the window - don;t want to get on that merrygoround!
MOOS, hope you're ok, sounds painful!! xx
Hi SORKY! Was thinking about the school hols and 4 los, but then remembered you homeschool. Is dd still keen on going to school?
Lunch with friend was good, and she actually seemed smitten with J and even bought him a a little top from the posh baby shop in the village J suffering a bit today with wind (and building up to a poo, lol). Out of gf routine today, what with feeding at 6am, so just going with the flow and seeing what it brings!

bumpsnowjustplump · 20/07/2009 15:34

afternoon all. I have been really ill! Last night I went to bed with owen as I felt really achey and woke up at midnight feeling full of flu and with a temp of 39.9. Crapped myself that I might have swine flu and might pass it to ds and dd. Tried to call nhs direct for advice but couldnt get through so went back to bed.

Woke up this morning and me left boob is bright red and so so sore. Went to gp and have another dose of ab for mastitis. It is really bad this time.... arghhhhhhhhhh I feel so ill and so sorry for myself...

Sorky thanks for a fab sat night how funny is that game. We will all have to get on it one day....

Nat dd and ds are full of cold and caughs as well and ds is really suffering with his teeth, I resorted to calpol last night in shear desperation...

well done on all your shopping I may have a quick butchers on line today....

Moosy · 20/07/2009 15:45

Glad you haven't got the dreaded piggy flu LB, but poor you having mastitis again.

Sketch is brilliant, I was having a whale of a time before I had my wierd moment! I think it was because it was getting late so I was tired, it wsa hot, I was sitting all scrunched up and I was concentrating hard on silly drawings and it all got a bit too much for my poor feeble body. I've felt ok today, in fact I've just mowed the lawn and had to move the 8" trampoline to do it!

Thaks for the offer of the top Sorky, not sure about it though, if it's a size 8 it will probably be too small, but if it's a size 10 then yes please!

bumpsnowjustplump · 20/07/2009 16:01

Moosy you should be taking it easy lady!!!

Moosy · 20/07/2009 16:15

I can't! Whenever DH is away for the day I always get a 'I don't need you, you Man, I can do all the manly stuff without you' urge and I do too much. I did just have a nice little lie down on the sofa though

sorky · 20/07/2009 17:58

Is a size 10 I think Moos. I know what you mean about the Man-up urge, but you should be at least trying to take things a bit easier

Bumpy not again!
It's horrible isn't it, your temp was very high, no wonder you thought it was piggy flu (lol). Sorry for all the poorlies.

No summer hole for us Dd1 has done maths today, ds1 Reading, then the pals knocked at the door and off they went the bet thing about the hole is that because they now play out I can chuck them out the door when they start to peck my head and there are plenty of kids to play with

essenceofSES · 20/07/2009 19:51

Quick post as on phone and niece is here.

Thanks for all your support. I'm going to keep the appointment but hope they don't keep me long and I don't come up against another over anxious doctor!

glaskham · 20/07/2009 20:30

Ses- only popping on but couldn't not respond to you... if you remember we had referals etc because of DD2's weight gain... when she got hypothermia I'm almost certain that was the thing that held her back, like O's tongue was holding him back before. But as soon as she started gaining weight she was gaining around 1lb every 2 weeks- about the same as your O is!! I honestly think you should go there and feel very very proud that O has started re-gaining his weight again... but honestly there is nothing more you can do for him now- DD2 is gaining much, much more per week BFing than she did in the whole forghtnight of giving suppliment (extra calorie) FF. Honestly- you are doing a sterling job!! Keep up the good work and he'll catch up in no time!!

Oh.... I got a puppy on saturday!!!! Buster, he's the cutest little thing ever- and he's good as gold, since he came home we've had only 4 accidents!!! He's brill with the kids!! He's a Boston Terrier... my mum has bought one of his brothers from the same litter too.

essenceofSES · 20/07/2009 22:28

Thanks Glask. It's knocked my confidence a bit again but hopefully we'll show these doctors tomorrow!!

Buster sounds gorgeous. You'll have to post some photos!

Off to bed now. Hope everyone has a good night.

Kayzr · 21/07/2009 08:20

Hello!

Ses, I hope it all goes well today! Stick to your guns. As Glask and Ruby proved formula doesn't really make any difference.

Glask, Yes we need pictures of Buster!!

DS2's sleep has vanished. We've been told that we need to get him in a routine. So I put him to bed at 9 amd he woke up at half 3!! I was told that the earlier I put him to bed the later he will sleep. Poppycock!!

Hope you are all well.

sorky · 21/07/2009 08:27

Dd2 slept from 7.30-11, had a feed then had to be woken up at 7am this morning!
I can't quite believe it's happened.

Perhaps I dreamt it

Could it be I might not look like Zombie when I start work next week?

bumpsnowjustplump · 21/07/2009 08:48

Sorky pooooooooooo to your sleeping baby.... Owen went to bed in his mosses at 7.30. I gave him a dream feed at 11.30 but he didn't take much. He then woke up every hour crying but only fed about twice. He hasnt done a poo in ages so could he be constipated? Also he is teething could this be it? What can I do to make him more comfortable?????

Ses can i give him lactulose?

Kay ds still isn't in a routine. HV told me he should be going through the night I replied she was welcome to come over tonight and try but i had given up!!!! DD was in a routine at 7 weeks but ds just isn't. It wont last forever I mean how many 7 year olds still need feeds in the night? We just have to ride it out

bumpsnowjustplump · 21/07/2009 09:03

Sorky have sent you an email....

Diege · 21/07/2009 09:14

Wow SORKY that's great!! Bet you feel recharged, plus it will hopefully have the knock-on effect of getting dd into the daytime sleep routines etc (well, as far as any of them do!)
SES, best of luck for today. Stay string and don't let them sway you - remember, you know ds far better than they do. LKet us know how you get on!
KAYZ, sorry your night wasn't so good. I think there's some truth in the early bed thing, in that they don;t get over tired and may well sleep longer, though having said that in my experience it doesn't necssarily follow either, esp with babies (tends to relate more to toddlers IMO).
Very tired today! J back to usual 3am waking, which is fine for a 5 wk old, but then dd3 decided top join in the party and was calling out several times in the night. Dh got up once with her, but I did the rest and boy does it take its toll on top of the usual baby wakings!
Hope everyone is ok. Lots of rain here..friend due round at 10, then must start to get some bits and pieces for dd1's party bags .

Diege · 21/07/2009 09:17

x-posts LB. That sound a tough night! As you sayb though, it is just a phase. Re: constipation could you try a teaspoon of fresh ornage juice?? Also I find a gentle circular motion massage on the lower tummy helps with blockages.

essenceofSES · 21/07/2009 09:46

Thanks for all your good wishes. Appointment is at midday and I'm hoping to take my niece to the Next sale afterwards so hopefully that will make up for the nasty doctors!

Bumps - Lactlulose can be given in infants but can take a couple of days to take effect so if I were you I'd do as Diege suggests for the moment and try a small amount of diluted juice together with clockwise tummy massage.

Sorry for poor nights. Ours wasn't fantastic either but at least DH was back!!

DS is starting to get unsettled on his bouncy chair so I'm off but will be back later...
