Diege · 25/08/2009 13:19

Have heard back from HR and seems '16 weeks full pay' actually means 'a little bit less than your normal take home' - in this case £70 less a month. We can cope, but would have been nice to know in advance!!!

Hellooooo

Sorry Tinks (and Glask - Tink, you better watch your 'shopping queen crown, think Glask is after it!! ), daren't click all the links, since we had that bug on the 'pooter, DH put McAfee AV on it and it is so bloody slow and crashes every 5th page something else to sort out in the near future!

Diege, that doesn't seem fair? Have you got anything in writing saying 16 weeks full pay? If you have and you feel like it I'd argue the toss with them if it were me.

Kay, hope going back to work isn't quite as hideous as you'd thought.

Kooky, your pregnancy seems to have whizzed by (sure it doesn't feel that way to you!) it's getting very exciting now!!

I am driving tonight so I should actually be getting my arse in gear ('scuse the pun!) and sorting some dinner out for the 3 Amigos, but TBH, I might be very naughty and get DH to do it while I'm driving. Mikey is driving my crazy at the moment, he is so clingy and just won't be put down for a second, am not used to it from him, and feel bad for moaning about it, he's been practically ignored since the day he was born, and he weighs a bloody tonne.... (NB. I don't mean actually ignored, just, well, he just sat there looking all cute and not bothering about anything till feeding time!) (Annnnd did I say he was weighed the week before last? He had his 8 month check, he's gone from just under the 9th centile at birth to just over the 75th now , see, not ignored, just fed!!)

And had a message from my Dad, well not a message as such, a 'friend invite' on FB I haven't seen him, or heard from him since I was 8, except once when I contacted him when I was 14 and he basically took me out for a pub lunch and then I never heard from him again, till now. FB? For goodness sake. Think I might have said he'd had an operation to remove his leg not long ago? It seems he's gone through my sister (who he has a relationship with) and she's been telling him all about us, me, my family, the kids, I am listed on FB with only my married name, he shouldn't know my married name. I didn't want him to know anything about me, the kids, us. It's nothing to do with him. So am -ing like crazy at his bloody cheek to try and contact me through FB, and I am absolutely livid at my sister for telling him about things that are nothing to do with him, or her TBH.

Ahhhh, did I ramble? Probably!

The house is going good guns, the buyers are seeing their mortgage lenders on Thursday, all being well we should be able to get a rough completion date by the end of the week. The is no chain so it should go smoothly-ish! Only problem we have is that if we've not found the house we want to move to for the long term, we're going to have to move into rented around here so I can keep DS1 at his school, instead of risking moving him twice IYKWIM? Have found a lovely barn conversion that'll do in the short term, in fact it's that nice that it would do in the long term, only problem with that is that it doesn't have a garden, it's got a little terrace thing, which will be fine for 6 months over the winter, but come next summer we'll have to be in somewhere with a proper garden. Anyone want a nosy? T'is here

DH is seeing the GP tomorrow for his referral for this op he's got to have, that is just another PITA(or balls ) on top of everything else going on (Sorry DH, that's not very sympathetic is it?!!)

I have no idea how long this has taken me to type, typing one handed is not my best skill! I should have muscles in my arms the size of a melon.

Which reminds me, well done on all the weight loss everyone, knew there was something else!!

Right I am off, don't all cheer at once... Bloody hell, two hours driving, am I wrong to find it really boring? The first hour is fine, but then I just get a bit too comfy I think, mind starts wandering to other stuff and I lose concentration. Not good when you're in charge of a big lump of metal going 50mph on the way home!

bodenaddict · 25/08/2009 17:31

hi nat -

house sounds great good luck with driving

idreamofbeanie · 25/08/2009 19:07

Hi,

Kay - how lovely of you to want to buy something for the baby. I don't mind as long as you let me return the gesture sometime and get a little somthing for the boys.

Glask - I'm looking forward to the sling arriving, thanks. I love getting parcels. Are you sure you'll find time between all that shopping

Lightning - hope you haven't fallen asleep at the wheel! When are you planning to take your test? about your dad BTW - did he honestly think FB was the best way to make contact? Grrrr

Diege - that's crap, surely if it says full pay on the paperwork then they have to give you your full pay.

Ses - hope you had a nice lunch

Boden - nice boots, the brown ones look sooooo cosy.

Well I didn't finish work until 11.40pm last night so I felt fully justified in going to an NCT coffee morning this morning and going to work late. It was really nice, I'm not usually good at meeting new people as I get nervous and can't think of anything to say but these pregnancy/baby things are great as you instantly have something to talk about. Met some lovely people and will def be going back with the baby (and not just for the platefuls of choccie bics ).

Starshinetiger · 25/08/2009 20:02

Evening all!
Just relishing a very rare moment - both DC in bed by 7.40pm on a night when I'm on my own - am sure it won't last. DS has a cold and DD will probably want more food sooner or later, but hey ho, thank heaven for small mercies. Am just going to watch Holby City myself and then head to bed, as long as one or tother doesn't wake up first
Lightning - hope driving lesson went well. House looks gorgeous. Can't believe your Dad...
Glask, ooh, tough one on the suit - I guess deep down you will know which is really the right decision. If you buy the Hugo Boss one, will you then keep thinking "oh, if I hadn't, I could have bought x, y, z", or will you just think, "ooh, doesn't DH look sexy, so glad I bought him a treat for a change, was well worth it". I think if you sleep on it and then still think the latter, then go for it!

Christening went well on Sunday - had a lovely day for it and was lovely to see friends and family. Get to see family who couldn't make it in a few weeks anyway, as Mum is having a party (just for the fun of it), so really looking forward to that too. Have put some piccies on Fb if anyone's interested!

IDOB - 11.40pm at night - sounds like me in the lead up to my mat leave, so you should take some time off the next morning - legally you shouldn't be back in work for 12 hours anyway

Diege - does not sound right re. may pay. If the policy states full pay then they should be paying SMP + company maternity pay, which takes you up to your normal full pay. Only thing which may make it look different is that maternity pay is usually paid weekly, so for a monthly payroll they count how many Sundays in that month and some months you'll get 4 weeks and some 5, but over the 16 weeks it should add to your normal full pay for 16 weeks. If you think it worth arguing the toss, you are well within your rights to get them to explain the calculations in full and explain why you're not receiving your normal full pay. I have the reverse here where I think they may have overpaid me last month, which means they'll need it paying back at some point - they are notorious at our place for mucking maternity pay up, is ridiculous!!

Right, really off to chill out in front of telly (a rarity) now. Enjoy your evenings.

essenceofSES · 25/08/2009 20:46

Lunch with my godmother was lovely and she spoilt us - flowers for me and a cuddly Winnie the Pooh and book for O
O in return was v well behaved and my godmother as a result thinks I'm doing really well as a chilled out mum!

We've been healthy and had chicken salad for tea. Even better we had tomatoes and cucumber that we'd grown in the garden

Star - your photos are lovely. Such a cute family!

Diege - hope you get your pay sorted

IDOB - I'm a bit like that with new people too but it's normally worth making an effort and I'm glad you enjoyed it.

Nat - hope driving went well. How stupid mad odd that your Dad thinks contacting you via FB is a good way to get in touch!

Kayzr · 26/08/2009 06:10

Morning,

Work was just as boring yesterday. Seriously tempted to find out what our tax credits would be if I stopped working. If we get more for me to not work I am going to leave. I'm in 4-8 tonight, so DS1 will be in bed when I get home and it's heartbreaking really.

I had an awful headache yesterday and just went to bed when I got home from work.

IDOB, It's a deal!! Thats a point actually, I need to get DS1 some toy cars. He has a sticker chart and his behaviour has really got better since we started it. So he gets a toy car for every 5 stickers.

Hope you are all well.

bumpsnowjustplump · 26/08/2009 08:57

Morning all sorry I am not keeping up very well... Owen is really poorly at the moment, I am really praying it is his teeth finally coming through.... He has a high temp, nasty cold and cough etc... crying most of the night and grizzling most of the day... pulling his ear and always has something chomping in his mouth......

It feels like he has been teething for ever!!!!

Weaning is going really well. We are doing a mix of blw and mashed food... I am mashing the meat but everthing else he is having in sticks... You may be able to help me. Jessica loved chicken and avocado so I bought an organic chicken (bloody £12) and did it yesterday. He didn't like it as much. I have batched of a few portions but wonder what I can add to it????? His fav is still his finger foods but dont think he could manage chunks of meat just yet.....

Diege · 26/08/2009 09:29

Morning! Sorry you have the graveyard shift (what we call it at our place), really hortrible working those hours
LB, really hope those teeth come through soon! Not much help on chicken front, other than mix with sweety potato perhaps? Glad weaning is going well anyway
Am pretty resigned to money situation, although as you've all said does sound dodgy. I've been sent excel spread sheets to pour over, which tbh are pretty meaningless to me. I've asked for a second opinion anyway from HR, and will make sure they know that (if correct) 'full pay' doesn;t really mean the usual monthly take home salary, just for their info of course...
Taking dd3 for her 2 hour visit at nursery this morning, then off to see friend this afternoon. Weather does not look hopeful!
Will go and have a nosey at your pics now SES

Diege · 26/08/2009 09:30

Oops, first comment directed to KAYZ!!

IWroteOffLightningMcQueen · 26/08/2009 09:41

Good morning troopers

IDOB, you should be taking it easy woman Choccy biscuits sound good though

SST, hope you got a good rest last night, and really pleased the christening went well

Ses, sounds like your visit with your GM went really well as well

Kayz, not sure what to say on the work front. Is there any chance of either changing your hours or the job itself? It doesn't seem fair you should have to carry on doing something you hate so much.

Thanks for the good driving wishes everyone I think I'm doing OK. The instructor said he'd be happy sending me alone around the shop in his own car for a pint of milk to go on his cereal, not sure if he was being nice about my driving, or inviting me for cereal!! He said on my first lesson he thinks I'd take 10-20 lessons before being test ready, that was my third lesson last night and he said I'll deffo need 10, but if I'm not ready by 20 lessons, he'd take it as a personal insult and hang up his L plates! So test is looking likely for October-ish, which suits us. I know in my mind I could pass on the driving side, it's the maneuvers, have got bay park and turn in the road perfect, but they've change the criteria for the left reverse so I have to learn it the new way, tried it last night and completely fluffed it and we've not done a parallel park yet, but he says it's the easiest of the four so not too worried about that. Next week we'll be doing the maneuvers for the 2 hours, if I can get the left reverse cracked, and the parallel park goes down OK, I might, might put in for my test but not just get the next available appointment, I'd go for maybe mid-October time, then at least I've got it booked and it won't end up that I'm test ready in Oct., put in for my test and find out there is an 8 week wait or something. If I fail, I'd like to have time to go again before xmas.

And my dad, I'll be honest, I have completely ignored the friend request. We have got so much going on at the moment with the house/s, DH's... well, to be blunt, his balls, sorting schools out, the driving, the kids, the way Mikey is being lately... TBH, he just isn't a good person, he's not bad as such, but it's not as though he would be there for support or lots of usefull advice, he'd just be an extra worry, which sound's really selfish, and it is I suppose, but I've not got room for anything else major going on at the moment. And TBH, if losing his leg has been the thing to make him sit up and realise what a fuck up his life is, I'm not going to be the one to make him feel batter about himself. He let my mum and five daughters walk out of his life without ever once trying to contact us, no birthday cards, xmas cards, not a single penny towards our up-bringing.

I do wonder if I'm being unfair on the boys, he has now put me in a position of that I'm keeping him, their grandad (and the only one they have) away from them. But, even if I did form some sort of relationship with him, he'd never ever meet the kids, ever.

...anyway, M is getting too heavy now, have no idea how I'm going to do it, but I need to clear the house up from top to bottom again, the buyer is coming tomorrow to measure up, it's the worst thing about selling up, hate all the clearing up, to be fair it's not all that bad, but there is 'everyday clean and tidy' and then there is 'buyer coming to measure up clean and tidy' and they are very much in different leagues!!

A shower wouldn't go a miss either... think he'll have to come in with me at this rate!

Kayzr · 26/08/2009 09:46

Driving sounds great Nat. My brother has his test on the 29th October! At 11:41am, what is with the 41? Why not just 11:40? I didn't go last week as I had a D&V bug and I really really missed it so I can't wait to go tomorrow.

I would like a shower too but not a chance with DS2 around. DS1 will happily play in his room for 10 minutes while I shower but DS2 will not be left alone.

IWroteOffLightningMcQueen · 26/08/2009 09:48

Sorry x posted Bumps and Diege - morning both

Bumps, am feeling some of your pain, M is just the same. Chicken and sweetcorn, chicken and tomato, chicken and runner beans, carrots, aubergine, any veggies really. Pasta, rice, any sort of potatoes, you could try noodles but check first, something is nagging in my mind that they shouldn't have noodles before 12m. And I have it on good authority, that chicken and banana works well

Diege hope DD3 enjoys the nursery visit

Kayzr · 26/08/2009 09:49

Oh and can't change anything about job. My boss didn't want me back at all and was trying to find away of not letting me back. Until my supervisor told him that he would be breaking the law and I could sue the company, he wouldn't agree to letting me back.

IWroteOffLightningMcQueen · 26/08/2009 09:50

... and Kay, good luck to your brother

What is it with all the separation anxiety at the moment? He was fine while I was out last night, DH did more in the 2 hours than I'd managed all day.

bodenaddict · 26/08/2009 10:02

IDOB- i'll take the sling shopping with me on friday and post it then!! need to wash it again anyway- it was on the line and it started raining- stinks of salt-water now!! oops!!

Think i'm gonna get the cheaper of the 2 suits- DH plans to wear it for a managers conference late in sept... so he said the cheaper one would be better as it'll only get worn for things like that after the christening... gutted as i did really want to get the hugo boss one!!

DS is being a PITA of late- i can't wait to ship him off to school!! haha!!

Had a pretty poor night again- DD has still got a bit of her cough- has had it a couple of weeks now... but it's still there- poor little thing

GYo · 26/08/2009 11:15

Hi everyone

Been lurking so up to date on most things.

Hi Lightening (cant get used to your new name)

Love the new name boden!

Star- sneaked a look at the pics on FB of your christening and they are lovely

Quick one here- was very excited yesterday at discovering DDs first tooth! Seemed early at 5 months but apparently it isnt. My baby is growing up !

Off to london for first trip with DD today.

Back laters. xx

glaskham · 26/08/2009 12:01

Very quiet this morning- GYo- have a nice day!! and wow for the tooth!! I hope ruby gets one soon!! though i'm expecting everythign to be delayed by at least 2mths... though most will probs be by 4mths as thats roughly when she was 'newborn' sized... it's very strange... she'll be like an average 4mths old when we go to disneyland and she'll be very nearly 8mths by then!!

bodenaddict · 26/08/2009 14:35

Sparklytwinkletoes · 26/08/2009 16:03

Hi guys, back from holiday but still got family visiting, not been able to catch up from all the posts in the last 10 days, but had a quick squizz through - if there's any 'big' news, please fill me in!!!

Am now just over 34 weeks and feeling enormous! Trousers just don't seem to fit, so am wearing pj's an awful lot at the moment. Am also quite uncomfortable and very, very tired... have been doing a lot though so its not really surprising.

I've done absolutely nothing to get ready for this LO and I'm starting to get quite desperate for DH to get on and finish DS new room so that I can move his stuff in and put LO's stuff in the baby room. Family go tomorrow so I'll hopefully have some time to spend tidying, washing, sorting etc while DS is at nursery.

DS seems to have grown up alot while on holiday, he's spent loads of time with his older cousins and it seems to have done alot for his confidence which is lovely. He had a 'taster' session in the pre-school class at nursery today and is going to start next week now as he got on really well. I'm a little bit at how quickly he's growing up. I did expect it though because nursery wanted to get him over there before LO arrives to minimise disruptions for him.

I'm waffling and I should be doing something useful before family get back from their day out. I stayed home for some 'quiet' time while DS was at nursery, and have ended up doing lots of phonecalls and not much housework. Oh well, it all needed doing...

essenceofSES · 26/08/2009 18:24

Hello Sparkly! Welcome back!!

O is rolling well today. He did it for the first time last Thurs (twice) but didn't repeat it until this afternoon and now won't stop! He's twice rolled back but otherwise keeps getting frustrated on his tummy.

This morning we went to baby cinema and saw The Time Traveller's Wife. I'd not read the book but enjoyed the film although I did cry
I also cried when I had an awful moment. I was sat on a chair in the front row of the cinema with O on the floor on his rug in front of me. He wriggled forward so he was mostly off the rug and on the carpet so I leant forward off my chair to pull him back on the rug. I forgot the seat of my chair would flip up and lost my balance and O's head. It dropped 3 or 4cm onto his rug I had that moment of silence before he screamed I picked him up and walked to the back of the cinema to try and settle him and when I started feeding him he settled. I think for him it was just shock and he's forgotten all about it now but I still keep apologising to him...
