Hello all! Thought I would start this off as our existing thread is full!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

bethoo I'm sure the cats will manage. I predict much hissing, hiding and hackles, and that'll all be the first time baby cries! I got told you can get cat nets that go over the cot so the cats can't get in, I'm thinking that'll be a must of an investment or it'll be a battle of wills as to whether the cats sleep in the cot or the baby does.

coffeeicecream · 11/06/2009 17:44

Biccy - was / am feeling, fat, exhausted, unattractive, bit depressed - no reason - as v happy to be pg and have a ddh and a ddds, generally out of sorts and out of control can i manage with 2 i found the first 3 months with ds sooooo hard, admitedly he did suffer from bad colic but nonetheless was not good at coping with relentless lack of sleep, terrified of the labour and i must stop this NOW... Usually happy , relaxed person. Havent told my bf's as they are having tough times ttc, or they are desperatley trying to find men to have babeies with. So I am v lucky.
SORRY SORRY FOR EXTENDED RANTING

timmette · 11/06/2009 17:48

coffeeicecream you are not alone in feeling like that trust me - especially in feeling like you look like an elephant. I also found the first 3 months terrible with ds he had reflux etc.. but the way I am thinking about it is think how much experience you have now - it can't be worse than last time - have faith in your abilities as a mother. Jealous that you have had the chance to labour I didn't even get one contraction lol - now you can say I am crazy.
It will be ok.

Sersi · 11/06/2009 17:49

somewhat I bought all sorts of cat nets and the like when I had my first DS. I was a bit concerned tbh. As it happens the cat took absolutely no notice of him at all when he was a baby, avoided both my DS's completely when they were toddlers (understandably), and is now only just willing to sit still for about 30 seconds whilst my eldest (now 6) strokes her. She still runs a mile whenever she sees my 4 year old. Your cats may be different however - mine is generally quite antisocial with anyone apart from me.

coffeeicecream · 11/06/2009 17:50

Thank you timmette. It was bad last timwe as was induced so know if that doesnt happen this time will be a lot better.

timmette · 11/06/2009 17:52

coffeeicecream yikes - just wish I had felt one contraction - feel like I missed out. Silly isn't it.

Sersi · 11/06/2009 18:03

coffeeicecream - don't be .hard on yourself for stressing. think we all think we should be supermum's, with everything coming naturally and terrified of being some kind of failure. it is hard, espeically in the beginning. I remember being constantly told to savour every moment as they grow up so quickly and quite frankly i was just trying to survive. there's so much information and advice - so much to measure ourselves against.

I have moments when I'm terrified of having 3 (although after my recent traumas it has become very clear to me that I would be gutted if anything happened to this pregnancy). I didn't intend to have any more children and it was my first month taking the pill after having coil removed when we conceived. My eldest is autistic and takes up a lot of my time and energy, I worry about whether he and my other DS will suffer because they will have less of me. I worry enormously that no.3 may also have autism (3 times more likely because I have one already). Mostly however I just try really hard to take a step back from all these concerns and deal with life on a day to day basis......easier said than done though.

Biccy · 11/06/2009 18:07

Hi coffeeicecream, this is just the place to rant. Sorry, I asked, then sloped off to bed as dp came home unexpectedly and I was feeling really horrible, just couldn't move. I'm also feeling really scared about the idea of having #2... I think part of it for me is fear at messing up what we have already - you know, we rock along nicely the three of us these days, and I know we are all going to have to adjust to a new way, and though I have faith that it will work out ok, I am really scared about the transition. I've heard that even if you're induced, it's not as bad with the second one, because you're body's been there already... don't know if that helps at all. I can't wait to get to the second trimester, when I just felt all lovely and proud of myself, rather than a bloated blob who was wondering whether she'd done the right thing.

FlightofFancy · 11/06/2009 18:13

Sorry that people are feeling down - don't know if it would cheer anyone up to help a first-timer with some practical stuff? (I'm worrying myself about this to distract from the bigger picture worries!)

Am trying to do a budget (quite scary actually and no idea whatsoever how we're going to find tuppence to rub together when I'm on maternity insult pay). Need to find out whether it's right that I get free NHS dentist treatment when up the duff/with baby spawn. If so, given that I currently have private dentist (as can't get on NHS lists in my area - all full), does that mean my current dentist would have to take me on her NHS list? Or does it only apply if you're already registered as NHS patient?
(and when does all this kick in?)

Sorry I can't offer anyone much help in return!

dal21 · 11/06/2009 18:18

Yay Sersi and londonlottie. Fantastic news. Well done also to Timmette re the bloods.

Sleepingalot - Hope everything went ok with your scan

Anniemac - Hope you feel better soon. Just rest up and get lots of liquids into you!

Hope everyone else ok.

dal21 · 11/06/2009 18:21

FOF - It is true. I would contact your primary care trust and discuss your situation with them. From what I understood, everyone is entitled to NHS GP/ dentist. And the PCT must provide that.

p.s. you also get free prescriptions if you fill out a form....you can get if from you pharmacy.

Biccy · 11/06/2009 18:44

On the subject of practical stuff for first timers, can I just say you need to get your form in for tax credits within 3 months of the baby being born or you'll lose out, as they'll only back date it 3 months. I didn't realise this, waited until dp's accounts were finalised and missed out to the tune of £700. Gutted. It's really clear on the front of the child benefit form that they only back date three months; the tax credit one looks exactly the same but doesn't have the big warning on the front. (At least it didn't 3 years ago.)

And, don't just assume you won't be entitled to anything, you have to have what is, in my opinion, quite a high joint income before you're not entitled to anything.

sleepingalot · 11/06/2009 18:59

Hi everyone

Well good news today, a big sigh of relief and paranoia over (for a few days at least!!!) My little bean has a good heartbeat and was wriggling around like I don?t-know-what. (I?m sure it even gave us a little wave) Scan said I was exactly 9wks and bean is 4cm. DH is convinced bean has a beer belly!

londonlottie am so pleased that everything went well for you too, I was thinking about you.

Sersi really glad all went well for you too, it?s such a weight off your shoulders, isn?t it?

Timmette glad your bloods went OK today.

anniemac hope you?re feeling better soon

coffeeicecream what Biccy says is right ?this is the right place to come for a rant or a moan? I find it such a help ? especially as we haven?t really told anyone yet (decided to wait until 12 wks)

Good luck tomorrow iateallthecreameggsyummy

sleepingalot · 11/06/2009 19:13

Correction ... bean is 2.27cm...was looking at the wrong measurement...I am new to this

Yay sleepingalot - how fantastic! What a great day on the scan front! You ladies must be very relieved and happy.

Marmite - been meaning to ask you, have things settled at all at your work? Have people stopped the nasty comments?

OP posts:
sleepingalot · 11/06/2009 19:49

Well marmitemonster after having no appetite for over a week and having to make myself eat (apart from Giant choc buttons...can ALWAYS eat them)it came back with a vengence today...I've eaten sooo much and so many carbs. As well as my obsession fondness of G choc buttons I have developed a need for pears at the moment too.

Glad to hear you're feel better today. Hope the knicker-checking stays at bay - i'm going to start to try and relax into this a bit more now...enjoy your chips

dal21 · 11/06/2009 20:11
