Too tired to post much but off to looka t yr suggested piccies now.

Sweet dreams or productive labour wishes to one and all

bunnymother · 31/05/2009 23:35

Evening ladies!

Quick post from me...

Bigcar - congratulations!! Am very happy for you and your family that little (?? ) Edward is here and you are both safe and sound! Fantastic news!!

Seems like no more babies, but as Ermin said - hopefully he "breaks the seal" and we all start to follow soon...

June - I agree w the other wise Juners - just tell SIL when you tell everyone else and explain that it was madness so you forgot.

Loouise - I hear you on the weight front, my friend, I certainly hear you!

Can't remember who said bloody Drs and commenting on size of my bump, but Loouise it may console you to know that I even have the medical profession astonished at the size of me. [wry smile]

Lynn - are you friends on FB w some Colemans from Sheffield? You aren't the only brunette w your name who has tousled hair on FB!

Like you, MrsMcJnr - am about to step up my efforts on luring LO out. Comfort is a feeling that I remember fondly and would like to rediscover. Ditto agile... Nice to hear you had a good time and that DS was angelic.

Naat - really glad to hear move went well and you looked after yourself. Despite temptation to pitch in.

Sounds like we all had good weekends. DH and I have finally agreed on some baby name options, so that's progress at least! Now we just need baby... I better go to bed - have to get up at 5am again for insomniafest

bunnymother · 31/05/2009 23:39

Insy - I am also having last minute nerves, inc re the actual labour. But trying not to think about it so I don't panic. At least you have done this a couple of times before and it went so well you are doing it again. Can you look at old baby photos of your LOs to remind yourself of how delicious they were? While also mentally lining people up to help (Tee's version of help is cooking and cleaning, not just wanting to snuggle your baby!)? If I was you I would take up every single offer of practical assistance to make it as easy on yourself as possible. Perhaps also get a cleaner for the first month, if possible? My two pence worth!

June2009 · 01/06/2009 01:17

insy I've been down all day as well, after sil insisting on staying outside the hospital, we told fil we didnt want anyone at the hospital and what did he say? "well if they keep you for a couple of days I will want to come and see my granddaughter". Errr, didn't you hear what we just said?
This is just going to keep happening for the rest of my life isn't it. Really bringing me down. Ive tried to sleep it off bu I keep waking up thinking about it.

I wish I could go to france and have the baby there, maybe that's where these dreams about flying are coming from.

Trying not to think about actual labour too much, not done it before and although I've been to as many classes as were offered I'm not sure how much they they can really prepare you.
Focussing on the look of the two or three new mums I've seen at the birth centre and how deliriously happy they looked. :D

dreamydowler · 01/06/2009 08:35

Morning everyone Didnt get much of a nights sleep was up until about 1am just felt restless and hot with the ocassional crampy pain and bit of mucous thrown in. Awake again at 5am to go to the loo and downstairs at 7am ironing uniforms.

Sorry to hear of all the stress your inlaws are causing you june Its difficult to know what to expect with your first and whilst it should be your choice be prepared for your feelings to change after baby is born and change again.
It can seem an awfuly long day in hospital and night and sometimes its nice to just have a couple of people you can talk to or hand baby over to whilst you go for a bath or shower for example or have a sleep for half an hour without worrying about baby.

I would draw up a list of "chores" for everyone your sil sounds a very organising sort of person perhaps you could make her in charge of seeing that everyone attends as on the list and carries out their chore. I would also write a list of rules and ask her to ensure they are carried out

for example

visiting hours FOR FATHER ONLY 11am until 3pm
NOONE else is to attend at these times its important we bond as a family unit

3:30 until 4:30 will be broken down into 2 half hour slots

day 1 3:30-4 grandparents a and b
chore have a nice selection of snacks and drinks for yourself and partner. Invite partner for tea or have cooked him a meal collect all baby washing and ask partner to drop his off to be done to.
4-4:30 grandparents c and d
chore bring in birth announcement cards for you to fill in magazines and fruit take a list from you of things you need bringing in or to have ready for when you arrive home sit with baby for half hour whilst you go for a shower and partner goes to get some fresh air or helps you in the shower

there is normally another visiting hour later in the evening around 6-30 until 7-30 I would only book one half hour slot in here leave the last half hour for you and partnerto spend alone before he goes home.
Explain the hospital only allows 2 visitors around the bed at any one time so its really important the rota is stuck to

As for sil sitting outside hospital I would leave her to it She will under no circumstances be allowed into the labour suite or be given any news without your permission. let dp tell her baby is born after you have made your phone calls to most important people ie before she makes those phone calls show her a photo but get him to tell her that other news such as weight etc will be announced on the announcement cards or at visiting slots by yourself.Keep her waiting lol

Once home I would do a similar rota only having two hours a day set aside for visitors who each have something to do
examples clean kitchen
hoover put load of washing in
do shopping and bring it
sit with baby whilst you have a bath
cook a meal etc

I would make it clear that whateve hours you choose are the only times you are allowing visitors as you will have the midwife each day also Explain they will have to be prepared to just muck in and not expect to be entertained especially if you are asleep or feeding.

If however you still feel uncomfortable then you need to firmly explain that you are having the first two days at home to yourself and then the rota will take effect after that.

Its hard I know as I have a huge family but you need to be firm

daisy5 · 01/06/2009 09:08

Morning all,

bigcar - Big congratulations to you honey. Edward is a lovely name. Sorry to hear the birth wasn't great but feel free to moan to us about it for a little therapy although am sure you have your hands full. Healthy size there .

My neighbour has lent me her birthing ball to bounce on, chilli chicken for lunch and ten cups of herbal tea today - I've decided the first day of June would be a nice day to have a baby, only problem is my pains have disappeared now [exhausted and fed up emoticon].

I have to head out to Quick Fit now as discovered rear brake pads are grim so will catch up properly later.

lol

Tee2072 · 01/06/2009 09:20

Good morning all.

Actually had a heartburn free night! No idea how that happened, but I feel very rested!

Hope everyone has as lovely weather as we are having here in Belfast. I am off to enjoy some of it and have some retail therapy!

I'll catch up later!

bunnymother · 01/06/2009 09:47

Morning ladies!!

Magical weather here, but no baby or real pre-labour signs. Am now convinced she will be late. Am def not pulling my weight on this thread

Dreamy - love your list of chores!! That will sort the men from the boys, so to speak. Sorry you had a restless night - hopefully labour will start for you soon...

Have my 39 week antenatal appointment today, so will be interested to hear just how "engaged" she is and whether they have a crystal ball to let me know when I should expect her.

Glad to hear you slept well, Tee, and Daisy, hope your LO gets a move on! All of these symptoms, then nothing, it really does feel like when these babies will arrive is in the lap of the gods!

Hope all you other lovely Juners have great days!! ((waves))

PS Assume I am not the only one whose maternity wardrobe is being severely tested by this warm weather?

chocciedooby · 01/06/2009 10:14

Huge Congratulations Bigcar!!!! Well done. Sorry to hear you had a rather traumatic birth but glad its all over for you. You can now get on enjoying your lovely new baby Edward

No-one else popped yet?!

This is only a quick check in as its DH's birthday today. He is getting a lay in bed so I have to entertain ds's for a while.

Had a fab BBQ with friends yesterday afternoon. The kids all played so well together. Dare I jinx myself, but am feeling better now than I have felt the entire prgy.

Have a good day Juners. Will catch up again later. xx

ermintrude13 · 01/06/2009 10:19

Morning all

Sorry family are still giving you hassle June. I agree with Bunny and dreamy that if people offer actual help then it's usually worth accepting - but also worth making clear what you mean ie. not just visiting and cooing . eg. loads of people have said - Oh and do call us in the middle of the night if you want us to take the DC while you're in labour - so I've said - That's v kind thank you, but do you actually mean it and what are the parameters?
We're creating a list of where each/both kids can go to at any point of any day or night in the next few weeks. Gives DH something strategic to do; he'll prob create a spreadsheet .

In terms of family visits, this is the 8th grandchild for my parents and there's a bit of a tradition of the entire family swooping in v soon after the birth, bestowing gifts and cards on babe and new mum and then whooshing off again. Because it's mainly my sisters it's fine by me - and although we cater for them it's shop-bought pizza and salad so no big deal. But other people are held of until we feel we can cope with them - and any casseroles are gratefully received.

Daisy I was getting loads of cramps last night but they too came to nought, and I don't think 1st June is going to be it.

Insy I'm really trying to concentrate on positive thoughts about my home birth rather than allowing my mind to fret through all the 'what if...?' possibilities. I'm relying on the process taking over, which it has done before, and focussing on meeting the LO

Tee glad you had a good night and got some sleep!

bunny I'm wearing and washing the same few items that still fit round me and are suitable for hot weather. Everyone is going to become extremely bored of these clothes; I already am .

MW appt this afternoon - I actually remembered to wee in the bottle this morning . Enjoy the sunshine Juners, and hope you don't swell up!

bunnymother · 01/06/2009 10:29

ermin - am in the same boat: wearing what still fits and am bored of what little that is. And can only assume everyone else is, too.

BTW ASOS is selling the Hot Milk Maternity Midnight Mystique bra reduced from £32.50 to £26.00 (+ delivery) and has some other maternity items reduced...

June2009 · 01/06/2009 10:31

Thanks dreamy I think a rota is a brilliant idea, I'll check the visiting hours at the birth centre today.

I realise that I may well change my mind and want to see people there or show off the new baby, plus if they come there they might not come to our house straight after so it would have its advantages.
What is driving me insane is that they are so inconsiderate, not asking me how I feel about it and just decide this is what they are going to do, making me feel like a "vessel" for their baby or something.

Not sure whether you meant sil sounds organised, that's made me laugh anyway. .
This is the girl who borrowed my car over a month ago for a day, got a fine, didn't tell me and still hasn't paid me back entirely for it.
She'll have no money to take dh for dinner or cook him anything as she has already spent this month's wages on clothes at the weekend, I am not kidding.) Furthermore she will be round ours asking for money for petrol to get to work and asking what we're eating and can she come cause there's no food "at home" (her parent's place). I could go on and on. I think I need therapy.

I have the perfect person for what you suggested though; my best friend is coming over to help out, she lives a couple of hours away but will be staying at her mums who lives close by for a few days after birth.
I asked her months ago to be my birth partner if needed (ie long labour) and help me fend off ils - if that's what I need.
I know her mum will cook something and she is just so accomodating.
So thanks for reminding me of that

As for sil/fil, well, dh is under instructions to switch his phone off once we're in labour. As some of you said, we'll just call/text when we're ready to have visitors.

On the baby front, lots of BH last night and this morning but no cramping or show or waters breaking. How do we know it's the real thing again? Just sort of more intense and regular bh?

doris Yes, I have written "no visitors" on my birth plan.
naat Glad your move is done, how is your new place?
daisy dh keeps bringing my gym ball in whatever room I am in to bounce on. I'm having pineapple for breakfast :D
littlesarah What a lovely dress :D and how cute is this baby!! Hope your ankle isn't too bad!
lynnn ther's a few with your name on fb, are you the one with the countryside background?
blueberry Not long to go for you now, how much earlier did they want to do the cs?? good luck with everything, we'll be thinking of you! How old is your ds? someone'll change it on the list. (not sure how you got a dd8 there.)
bigcar I hope you're recovering well.
Tee Is your pram all put together now? Did you have a good night's sleep? I've been taking gaviscon at night as well, doesn't sound as bad as yours though. hope you can get some of these magic tablets.
ermin impressed at your quick thinking in the toilet, was that a sign of things progressing at all?
bunny did you decide where you are having the baby in the end?
louiise hope you're enjoying cooked meals fr you
silk oh poor you with the wardrobe malfunction :S
mrsmc due date this week too, good luck!...mine's sunday! officially 39+1 now.

Gosh there's a few of us due this week...come on girls!!!

silkcushion · 01/06/2009 10:43

morning all. I see there are few missing from this morning's registration. I wonder are they getting some much needed lie ins or pushing out bambinos?

dreamy - you can tell you're a seasoned professional at this new baby marlarkey. What a fantastic list

Choccie - glad to hear yr feeling good.

Ermin - ikwym about people offering to take children in the middle of the night. A couple of people have said that to us but when they think through the implications they simply can't do it. Nevermind - it's nice they want to help

Tee - hurrah for a decent night with no heartburn - hope you enjoy yr retail therapy

Bunny - right there with you on the maternity clothes problem (have even less to wear after the incident in the park) Think I might become housebound and wander about in knickers and a bra

June/Insy - think these emotional/hormonal worries strike us all. June - birth is easily forgotten and yr relatives will be irrelevant once you've got your own little family. Insy - you know you can cope with a little baby cos you've done it before. I'm comforting myself with the fact that I feel I'm due a baby that sleeps to make up for dd who has always been a rubbish sleeper - I'm applying pg logic to the situation and can't be persuaded otherwise

Hello all the other Juners - enjoy your days

silkcushion · 01/06/2009 10:50

June - x posts

Real labour - the contractions are rhythmical and don't go away no matter what you do. Not necessarily more intense. I had contractions all day on the Tuesday before having dd on wednesday afternoon. So take some heart from those people who say I was in labour for 2 days - I was almost but day one was very manageable - I was very smug and thinking 'I can totally cope with this pain it's not bad at all'

Things changed about 5am Wednesday morning - then I understood intense. STill the whole thing was quite good really and you honestly can't remember a bloody thing about it afterwards as you've got a little baby to snuggle look after

lauraloo09 · 01/06/2009 11:18

morning juners just checking in for morning register
still no baby here and now doesn't look like she'll be arriving soon as cramps have totally died down

will try and catch up at some point today just really tired and can't take any information in just now x

Oh our first baby! Congrats bigcar and welcome to the world edward. Gorgeous name, hope you are resting and recovering from your birth experience.

Girls, i think we may need a new thread before any more june babies arrive! It is moving so quickly!

Sorry, no southern hemisphere baby news yet, fairly constant BHs, a few contractions but nothing established and only 37+2! BP still high, so off to the midwife tomorrow.

The thread has moved so quickly, will have to go read the part about getting DHs to stop smoking. Mine has supposed to have been giving up for 37 weeks now! After a major barmy from me, he is trying very hard. My reasoning is that doing it once LO arrives is going to be waaay too hard.

silk so sorry for your shorts incident!you poor thing. I also share maternity wardrobe boredom.
ineed hope you avoided the rest of the furniture painting!
naat great the move went well, how is your new place?
bunny pleased about the baby name progress. We can only agree on ones we both don't like!!
tee so of your heartburn free night- what was your secret?
dreamy love your 1/2hr time slots and duties, mind if i steal some of your ideas?
ermin Hope you had a good midwife appt?
june How lovely to have your BF for support/security detail!
littlesarah what about a microwavable wheat bag? They are great because they mould to you and you can get them in lots of sizes. We can't have hot water bottles at my hospital but wheat bags are ok.
hi to daisy, doris, lynn, insy, blueberry, louuise, mrsmc and I really hope I haven't forgotten anyone but very sorry and hi to all the other juners!
ps mrsmc glad things getting better at home for you and DH improved!

Right off to catch up on the last few days of the thread and find out DHs guess on the due date!!

Can you start it MrsMc, I don't know how?

Hooray!!! Congratulations Effie, splendid news. Two little boys!

Come on Doris, Llynnn, Blueberry, MrsmcJnr, Ineed, Bunny, Help, Daisy and LittleS*, it's your turn next!!

Oooh this is just too exciting for words now. I am distracting myself by pegging out all the tiny babygros and muslin squares, supervising my brother's A level revision and booking a pedicure.

Weird to think that June 2009 will probably be the most memorable and important month of my entire life [shock} !

lauraloo09 · 01/06/2009 13:12

yey for effie and great to hear LO is doing well and fingers crossed he is out of intensive care soon thanks tee for telling us, kinda cheered my day up

For some strange reason for the past hour I have done nothing but cry feeling very lonely and isolated when DH is at work and think it is starting to get me down...also just want bubba to hurry up and arrive lol

Hope the rest of you lovely juners are having a good day x

June2009 · 01/06/2009 13:15

ooh, YAY for Effie too :D

snowwombat · 01/06/2009 13:24

oh laura, so sorry you feeling crap . Can you ring a girl friend for a chat/cuppa? Maybe get out for a walk to help your head?
Hope your day gets better

congrats effie!

We need to get the new thread started. ermin I am afraid I am technologically challenged! Here's hoping someone comes along soon who knows what they are doing and starts the new thread!

Nighty night girls. Here's to another crap sleep.
