Metanium? Just use it sparingly.

Momino, did you say it's just one ankle? That would be unusual if just oedema. Does it pit when you press it, and take a short time to return to flat? Or is it red and hot to touch? Have you been less mobile than normal? Silly question I know, you've just had a baby.

SesIsNowCountingdownthedays · 06/05/2009 18:11

Am now on FB group

Here's a picture for you.... Have just watched (or rather listened to Neighbours) whilst on all fours with my bum up in the air
Actually don't know what's worse - me admitting to watching Neighbours or the image that created...

Am also planning on scrubbing the living room floor this evening with some of that Vanish spray stuff that's been advertised on tv. More time spent on all fours the better!

If this baby is breech tomorrow it'll be because it's stubborn!

runningmonkey · 06/05/2009 18:23

Hi guys,

Still not slept properly and been to tired to come online but have tried to have a bit of a catch up - congrats to MrsF and Aquababe

Will try to do better over next few days.

Hope all ok xx

alapala · 06/05/2009 18:27

Tummum amazing birth story, you clever woman!

And Massive congrats to 1stmrsF and Aquababe. hope to hear feom Detsy soon too... exciting.

Nothing to report here, apart from total chaos. Thanks to the ear infection we have gone from having aa potty-trained, reasonable eater and sleeper, sweet little 23 mths old to.... with 2 weeks to go till DS2.... a diarrhoea-afflicted, nappy wearing, hunger-striking, constant night waking, miserable little boo. AAAARGH. Disaster!

Belgianchocolates · 06/05/2009 19:02

jenn I was just sitting around and thinking about momino's post about her ankles. It suddenly struck me that like you said she said ankle not ankles and so I rushed straight back on here to ask her the questions you just asked! Phew, just as well one of us is on the case.

momino Is it just your 1 ankle? Is it spreading over your whole leg? Like jennster said, any red spots on your leg that are hot/painful to touch? If the answer to any of these questions are yes, then it could be a DVT and your leg could do with being looked at by a dr or at least your cmw to rule this out, as DVT's can be v. dangerous if left untreated.

Blottedcopybook · 06/05/2009 19:23

Grumpy I emailed you - reply to me and I'll get the instructions to you as soon as I get a chance to draw them up

Belgian I agree re: nappy changing! When I changed DDs nappy for the first time I was horrified because at least little penises are all enclosed and there's no nooks and crannies where yucky stuff can hide!

Pula When I was facing c-section with DD I asked if they'd do my tubes at the same time and they said no! My DH had a vasectomy just before Christmas though so I am definitely finished.

Jennster That's amazing! Whenever a recipe calls for extra large eggs I usually just add an extra one because my hens lay fairly small eggs. I honestly don't know if it makes a huge amount of difference but it uses up some of my glut! I had 48 eggs sitting on Sunday, I was handing them off to everyone who came for DDs birthday!

Well, all in I've not had a fab day really. DS did a poo in his potty (hooray!) then came upstairs for his nap, peed and pooed in his pants and didn't tell me. Got him showered & dried and into bed for a sleep when my asshole cat fell off the windowsill onto a binbag on DHs side of the bed and woke DS who was so shocked he started crying and woke DD. So they had maybe 20 minutes nap when they normally have 2 hours.

DH is doing my F-cups in tonight as well, I swear to God if he ignores me once more I'm going to injure his delicates. I am really not a happy bunny tonight at all.

Belgianchocolates · 06/05/2009 19:28

blotted I do the same with recipes. Our hens don't lay large eggs either, more like standard and at first small. Somehow they seemed to have grown as they got older . Anyway, I always add an extra egg too. How are your kittens doing?

Right, off to wash the dcs hair. The showers at the leisure centre were being fixed, so they didn't get a shower after swimming today.

MatthewAndBumpsMummy · 06/05/2009 19:32

congrats to aquababe and 1MrsF lovely names

Febes · 06/05/2009 19:52

Blotted your story of the cat made me laugh!! Sorry, a comedy of errors!!!

belgian and blotted I am so of your hens.

I have been having regular BH (?) for the past hour. Stronger than normal so I am aware of them but its probably nothing- just the normal nightly fase alarm. I'll just try and ignore it till DH gets home from work and if it is anything I'll start timimg them.

Blottedcopybook · 06/05/2009 20:09

Belgian That's pretty normal, first year they lay more often but smaller eggs and after that they lay slightly less often but much bigger eggs. Kittens appear to be doing fine, Sia's not been as in-and-out of the box today

Febes I am such an advocate for henkeeping, I think everyone with a garden should have a hen or two

FiKelly · 06/05/2009 20:19

OK I'm officially useless at the moment keeping up! DH and I have been really hectic over the last few days with the work getting finished in the flat and douglas dog's ongoing treatment/checks. The guys came back today to re-do the shelving in our new store room. So apart from a tiny bit of flooring to go down in our en-suite at some stage we are pretty much finished! DH has built DS's new ikea furniture... wardrobe, chest of drawers and toy box.

I have been busy filling it all with DS's clothes and unpacking all the secret girly clothes i have ready for #2 into her wardrobe.... just got to stop anyone from opening the doors!!! It is really nice to see everything hanging up in there ready to use [soppy grin emoticon]. The new coving was painted this afternoon so all being well DS will be moving back into his now smaller bedroom at the weekend... meaning i can then finish organising the baby's room.

I have no signs of anything exciting happening... no braxton hicks/shows etc but feeling very tired and now getting slightly swollen feet and ankles.

I have a question for everyone who's had 2 births or more.... on our way into Bristol on sat am DH was asking me how long he'd have to get back from work when my labour starts?! (as he works in Bristol and goes by train everyday). I couldn't really give him an answer...

You may remember me saying I never experienced a labour with DS as my MW discovered my pre-eclampsia at 38.5wks. Rushed me to hospital by ambulance where for 3 days the MW's tried to induce me... to which I didn't respond in any way (sparse and v mild if non existent contractions), my bishops score went down the more they tried and even after day 3 they was no hope of getting to pop my waters... DS was quite happy where he was thank you! Hence them needing to do the CS.

Out of us VBACers that have had v quick labours... did you experience any labour/contractions etc before your previous CS or like me nothing at all? DH is worried he won't have time to get back to W-S-M from Bristol (can take 1-2hrs depending on trains) to collect DS and I. Then drive us all back into Bristol to drop DS at his aunties and us onto the hospital. I would like to think there'd be loads of time between waters breaking &/or contractions starting 1st stage stuff and the imminent 2nd stage... but really not sure now.

Any ideas gratefully recvd!!! sorry didn't mean this to turn into an epic just curious what everyone thinks...

Momino · 06/05/2009 20:20

hi all,

belgian, Jennster, thanks for your comments re: swollen ankle. it worried me too that it was just the left one but i think the other one now looks puffy as well so feel slightly reassured. it 'pits' and the left is sore but not hot to touch. my cmw is visiting tomorrow so will get her to check.

Febes · 06/05/2009 20:34

Fi I can see why you are worried when you are looking at a possible 4 hour trip for DH to come from work to pick you up, drop off DS and get to hospital. Its also a long journey for you in the car!! Hopefully you will go into labour at night and then you will have DH with you. Thats not very helpful is it?? I only know that my labour was really long but that was a first time labour so not sure if it is diferent with a VBAC second labour.

Hopefully someone more helpul will give you some advice.

FiKelly · 06/05/2009 20:34

ses sorry i wasn't on earlier to send you the FB group invite... i've sent you a friend request too.

blotted I meant to say 2 of the kittens didn't make it but glad to hear the remaining ones are ok... at the vivid description of their birth to the teacher!

Metanium ointment... i agree great stuff but a little does indeed go a very long way.

Febes · 06/05/2009 20:35

blotted could I have hens in my small garden then? Dh and I would love that. What coop would we need?

Momino · 06/05/2009 20:39

Fi, about subseq labours, my dh works an hour and a half away so i was worried too about him getting back in time. we were lucky with both dd2 and now dd3 as both labours started when he was home. however, it advanced quickly. both times it was only an hour from when contrax started to when we arrived at hosp with me 8cm dilated.

it would have been difficult to arrange childcare, getting my bags and a taxi to hosp whilst having strong contractions. somehow it just workedout labours 2 and 3 happened at a convenient time and hope yours does too.

do you have friends who can look after ds last minute if necessary? it's so hard to say if you'd have loads of time as everyone's different so you do need a quick plan as well. does your ds go to nursery? one of my 'quick' plans was to get DDs into the nursery (if a non nursery day) as soon as contractions started. nursery is very understanding in this situation and said they would gladly take them if things happened during the day.

don't know if this helps.

FiKelly · 06/05/2009 20:42

I have some ideas for contingency plans if things do kick off extremely quickly and there's no time to get me anywhere!!! In W-S-M we have a MW Led Unit only (no surgical and unfortunately they don't want me due to being VBAC) but if things happen v fast i plan to phone them for either home birth assistance or just get a taxi down there and hope they don't refuse me!! My mum can cope with DS for a few hours if need be... but not for much longer due to her and my father having MS and them getting tired easily. My father is totally unable to help her with DS in any way as he is quite frail these days.

Jennster · 06/05/2009 20:45

Momino ifit pits then it sounds like oedema, but do get it checked out anyway.

FiKelly · 06/05/2009 20:47

DS has just started pre school a couple of weeks ago but that is just 2 sessions of 2.5hrs. I have a few friends who if they're not working (their shifts vary) would be able to take DS too. Also i'm sure if need be my auntie who is due to look after DS when the time comes would drive down from Bristol to W-S-M to help my mum and look after DS here if there is no time for us to go over to her....

FiKelly · 06/05/2009 20:50

Who knows maybe i'll unexpectedly get the home birth this time that i so wanted but didn't get with DS last time

momino glad the mw is due to you tomorrow... not long to wait to get your swollen ankles checked out.

Jennster · 06/05/2009 20:52

Fi Perhaps they would let you go there and blue light you if need be, to the mat unit? Hmm, still doesn't solve your child care problems. Luckily my two are at nursery during the day. If I go into labour during the day, my mum and my bil could help out collecting them, feeding them and looking after them for a night...I hope, and if it happens at night then hopefully my mum can come over and sort them out in the morning.... It's all very fluid at the moment. I'm due on Saturday, and my friend over the road is on holiday until then. She was my emergency contact.

FiKelly · 06/05/2009 20:59

jenn IKWYM it is all a bit of complete guess work and what if's... My 1st planned emergency contact moved to NZ and then my 2nd got pregnant before me and is now coping with a new born! At least my parents/family have not added to stress & complicated matters for us by deciding to go & book holidays like so many on here have...

Belgianchocolates · 06/05/2009 21:01

fi How much time your dh will have is v. difficult to say. Considering you never actually had labour 1st time around this will be counted as a 1st labour and will more than likely progress like a 1st labour, which on average last around 10-12h. But even 1st labours can be quick, so having a contingency plan is a good idea. However, generally your dh should have enough time from when you suspect labour to get home, even it's a couple of hours. You would want someone there to look after ds while waiting for him though.

blotted Thanks for the explanation re: the egg sizes. I'm also happy your cat seems to be getting to grips with motherhood. I'd have one of your kittens if you didn't live that far away

febes we've got an eglu. Not cheap, but really easy to maintain and it doesn't take up much space at all and perfect for a small garden. Usually our hens have the run of our big garden, but while we're away on holiday or at night they're in the eglu and generally we keep the door to the house open so they can walk around the run in the morning when we're still in bed. It's fox proof too.

FiKelly · 06/05/2009 21:02

Gah! Yuk & eeew! Tonight for the 1st time in this pregnancy have really bad reflux/heartburn and not a drop of Gaviscon in the house.... Absolutely Typical!!!

FiKelly · 06/05/2009 21:16

mominojennster & belgian thanks will be interesting when the time comes to see which of my plans will be used!

When we are lucky enough to have a garden of our own rather than a shared one with the other residents I always fancied having chickens and always wanted an eglu too. A friend of mine has one and has recommended it for years
