Here we go ladies... over to you all!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
CoteDAzur · 29/04/2009 16:45

Wow, you ladies can talk! I've lost all hope of catching up & barely manage to sneak in 2-3 posts per thread

sausagenmash · 29/04/2009 16:52

Wow, a shiny new thread already! Can't believe that babies are happening all over the place! I've got Dandy's mobile number, so will text her and keep us updated...

Pula - yes, it was me re: dp's smoking. He's still at it, is the cause of many an argument . He's only really having them when he's out drinking after work, but he had some in my parents garden at the weekend (they all had a boozy dinner, grrr). He knows he's got to stop when the baby comes, as I've made it clear that if he doesn't, he's in the spare room. That'll learn him!

Went to a 4 hour breastfeeding workshop this morning. Was... interesting. Felt a bit of a berk plonking a plastic baby on my boob, (over my top, mind!!) but hey ho. Also watched a Norwegian video, who are the best in the world at breastfeeding, apparently... it was all a bit, well, um, dunno, but I guess I have my own ideas about breastfeeding... taking my baby to a swanky candle lit restaurant and ALSO getting a boob out to feed ain't my thing, but I guess it works for some people...!!

Off to yoga. Need a biscuit or 4 first.

pulapula · 29/04/2009 17:00

Afternoon ladies, after struggling to remember everything for my hospital bag which is now part-packed (as i need to do more shopping), I thought i'd search for fikelly's very handy list from a few threads back. If anyone thinks of anything else useful, please let me know! One thing that was useful with my elcs last time was to have a small bag (freezer food bags are good) with the following for the LO to take down to theatre- babygro, vest, mits, hat, nappy). Also if you like baths, tea tree oil is good especially if you've had stitches/tears.

Labour bag
my natal hypnotherapy cds &/or ipod
snacks/drinks
cheap big t-shirt (that i don't mind throwing away if needed)
rescue remedy (got one in spray dosing bottle)
tens machine (one i'm renting should have arrived by then)
old socks to keep my feet warm and that can be thrown away if needed too.
lipsalve
hair bands to keep my long hair contained and out of the way...
watch with a 2nd hand to time contractions (until we get to hospital)
trying to remember what else i've got next door?!

My after birth bag
PJs
some change for the phone etc
nursing bra (too big boobs to consider not wearing one)
dressing gown
pair of socks to keep my feet warm
big cheap pants i don't mind throwing away
comfy pregnancy going home clothes (will still look 6months pregnant even after having LO)
shampoo, toothbrush, toothpaste, flannel etc
my crocs sandals for shower/use as slippers
pack of wipes
breast pads
Lansinoh cream (big tube)
nipple shields & lansinoh latch assist gadget (i have one inverted nip that causes latching problems)
Maternity pads... 2 large packs of really thick ones with more at my aunties if needed.
non brain taxing Magazines... thinking about a book but not sure if i can be bothered. Might take my PSP and lego batman game instead?!
Mobile and charger
Snacks/biscuits/ribena
maybe a muslin cloth or 2
pos taking my germaloids too
dark coloured towel
maybe even some make up!
and my hairbrush etc
pos my arnica tablets too
present for ds when he come to visit from his new little sister

LO's things bag
Nappies
soft small baby towel
cotton wool pads (can't stand the feel of the balls?!)
couple of hats
some sleepsuits
some vests
blanket
going home outfit (we know what we're having so makes it easier)
tiny tester pot of sudacream just in case

pulapula · 29/04/2009 17:04

sausagenmash- hope your DP does stop smoking when LO arrives- maybe it will be the spur he needs.

I was never comfortable BF in public. If out shopping i'd use feeding rooms or give a bottle of expressed milk/formula. With DS i was a bit more confident, and would feed him in cafes/restaurants but only if there was a discrete place to do so (if it wasn't too busy).

SpangleMaker · 29/04/2009 17:45

pulapula re hospital bags, I also found useful

flipflops (98p from Primark, throw away afterwards)
large ziplock freezer bags for dirty washing
pen & paper (see comments to Dandy on prev thread)
re drinks - I took 4 500ml bottles with sports caps, 2 water, 2 sports drinks and drank them all even though I had a fairly short labour
re make-up - waterproof mascara for hormonal post-birth tears ( to say I used mine routinely before the birth - I looked bad enough after childbirth without panda eyes!)

Totally forgot to use my Rescue Remedy & lavender oil (can't even remember what I brought that for!)

I found the hospital supplied nappies, towels, cotton wool etc but I think they preferred us to use our own. BTW one of the bounty bags has a tester pot of sudacream in it.

SpangleMaker · 29/04/2009 17:46

Oh & thanks for the new thread divedaisy

Belgianchocolates · 29/04/2009 17:46

Hi everyone,

For those of you who didn't get a message from Llare: she's had her baby this morning at 8 o'clock and he weighs 7lbs9oz. I'd say perfect proof that she managed her GD perfectly. So CONGRATS TO LLARE...

CoteDAzur · 29/04/2009 17:54

Oh lovely news! Congratulations Llare

Belgianchocolates · 29/04/2009 17:57

re hospital bag nappies, towels, cotton wool, etc... I think that really depends on the unit. My old unit had no problem supplying it to mums and babies, but where I work now they're a lot stricter. In the staff room there was even a notice saying we used too many towels and that we should tell mums to bring in their own. So I think it's wise to bring nappies, cotton wool, etc... just in case your unit is a little bit more cash strapped.

I bf in public, no problem, but only once I got confident at putting them to the breast without too much flashing TBH I couldn't be bothered to get up and find a feeding room when we were out and about. Half the time these were the disabled toilet anyway. My SIL used to close her curtains every time she bf during those first few weeks with her first one, just in case the neighbours oposite got their binoculars out and peeked in through her windows . She stopped doing that fairly quickly though.

Spangle when it comes to 'relations' I think we did it for the 1st time about 5 weeks after, but after that there were quite long gaps without until the sleepless newborn nights started to get less. Can't remember who said it, but it's true that either baby starts sleeping more OR you get strangely used to being tired all the time so it doesn't bother you anymore. The former happened to me with dd and the latter with ds. I'm hoping for the former this time around

Tummum · 29/04/2009 18:03

What fabulous news from Llare Hope she is tucking into lots of chocolate !

Any news from Gert?!

Who will be next?? Oh, Jael is tomorrow too. It's all sooo exciting.

Hope Looby is doing OK. Bit worrying that we haven't heard from her for ages.

I am being a completely rubbish Mum tonight. Have flipped out at DC (because DD2 accidently kicked me in the norks and my back is killing me again) and they have been in front of the telly for an hour because I just can't face moving / entertaining them. Poor kids, I am going to put them off having their own at this rate, I am being such a miserable cow !

pulapula · 29/04/2009 18:05

Thanks for the llareggub news Belgian- lovely to hear she's had her little boy.

Belgianchocolates · 29/04/2009 18:15

Tummum Don't worry about it, we've all got our days and it's easy to loose your temper at this stage with the tiredness and aches and pains. Bet your dcs are over the moon that they're allowed unlimited telly. It's my ds's idea of heaven

Blottedcopybook · 29/04/2009 18:31

Congrats to Llare!! TumMum Honestly love, you're by far not the only one with a very limited supply of patience these days!

I went to Bravissimo to get fitted today, 36F! Where in the heck did these puppies come from?!

Grumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 29/04/2009 18:34

Ooh we're over here now!!!

CONGRATULATIONS LLARE

Tummum DD2 keeps 'accidentally' punching/kneeing/kicking me in the norks. I'm getting decidedly sick of it now. She's currently doing forward rolls on the sofa, almost falling off every time and I'm choosing not to notice.

Grumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 29/04/2009 18:36

Blotted I'm the same size nork as you. I'm normally a B/C.

pulapula · 29/04/2009 18:46

Some giant norks around here lol. Mine haven't expanded quite so much- got measured for nursing bras today and was a 38DD. Pre-DCs i was a 34B (although pre-this LO i was 36A so guess i'm not doing too badly in the cleavage department). Not looking forward to the aftermath post-BF...might not be much left. Keep saying to DH i'll have a boob job once we've stopped pro-creating but not sure i would.

emmabemmasmom · 29/04/2009 18:50

LLARE Yeah congrats!!! Oh can't wait to hear the details...in your own time of course lol Glad all went well

Ohhhhhhhhh I just had the most amazing thing! I had one of the new Magnum Temptation things with chocolate ice cream, brownies, fudge, all covered in dark chocolate....oh...my...god. I had the full size one. DH had one. There is one left. I can hear it...whispering my name from the depths of the freezer.

Off to take a bath in the hopes that it takes my mind off of the last Magnum...

emmabemmasmom · 29/04/2009 18:54

Oh you all with your itty boobies lol God I wish mine were smaller! I have been a DD since I was like 16! After DD I stayed at a 36F...don't even want to know what I am now. Should probably go and get that checked out

And boob jobs...I have always wanted a reduction. Wish I could afford it. When I was about 14 I went to the doctor and asked if he could take some from me and give it to my friend who had none lol He must have thought I was crazy.

Grumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 29/04/2009 18:57

My friend had a breast reduction on the NHS after finishing BFing her 3rd child and having gone up to a HH cup or similar. She was in permanent, hunched over agony as the rest of her was fairly dinky. She's a C cup now and a bit more in proportion .

SesIsCountingdowntheweeks · 29/04/2009 19:00

Congrats Llare

I've been to see the first of the babies from our NCT group to have arrived this afternoon! She was born by elective CS yesterday. Scary thing is that going by EDD, I'm next from our group In theory still at least another 11 days to go though... I'm trying to persaude myself that it'll be late too so that I don't get too fed up with the waiting!

Those of you with DC already, I'm amazed at how you cope! I'm not suprised patience seems to wear a little thin sometimes!

emmabemmasmom · 29/04/2009 19:01

Oh that would be so nice! I mean sorry that she was in such pain but I can relate! I always get pain between my shoulder blades. It is actually quite bad at the moment but I have just lived with it.

Even when I was a size 10 I was an E...so I don't see them going back down sadly as they didn't after DD.

Oh well...maybe one day the light will shine in my favor

CoteDAzur · 29/04/2009 19:09

I'm thinking of a tummy tuck after this baby.

The rest of my body is fine but my tummy never really went back in after DD. I hate to think what it will be like after this second pregnancy.

silkcushion · 29/04/2009 19:09

sorry to sneak on to yr thread. Just spotted Llare had her baby - did she get her VBAC?

Belgianchocolates · 29/04/2009 19:10

I've also experienced an amazing nork expansion over the years, even though my dress size has stayed a lovely 10-12. Pre dcs I was a 34B and now 36FF, EEK. I remember when bf the other dcs I went up to a 34F and DH used to roll on top of them in bed by accident, they were that big, so I'm dreading my milk coming in this time around. At the mo my FF is protected from DH by my bump sticking out even further than my norks

DH is coming home tomorrow. Time to put that rabbit away and get him to do his job

Belgianchocolates · 29/04/2009 19:11

Oh, I didn't say, but yes, llare had a VBAC this morning. She said it was ouch
