Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Amelia Carys and Georgiana Bronwen were delivered by c-section at 14.06 and 14.07 on Friday 1st May. Millie weighed 7lb 6.5oz and Georgie 6lb 12oz (no wonder that bump was so big)

We got home yesterday and I feel physically like a truck ran over me and emotionally like nothing I have ever felt before or can adequately describe - proud, a enormous sense of achievement, happy to the point of slight hysteria but overwhelmed with love for these perfect little people.

We are doing quite well. Millie didn't feed well to start with and had to be mix fed in the hospital - subsequently it was found she had a tongue tie and that was corrected today - she's feeding better already and I hope we will be able to increase the breast feeds and cut back on the top ups. Georgie is feeding well. I'm very tired - nights in the hospital were very difficult even though the ward staff were helpful, you've still got two babies to care for, and I'm really glad to be at home with DH.

Haven't got time to catch up, really must sleep while the babies are sleeping, so please forgive me and my congratulations to any other births in the last few days. I'll come back when I can. Hope everyone is well and happy.

oh dear more tears from me - but good ones this time at tummum and her lovely, lovely birth story. You've cheered me up no end with that. Tell me, what's it like having a boy after 2 girls.....? (I have 2 girls and am waiting for my son to come out and meet them!)

ses - do you have kicks down in your pelvis at all? I'm sitting here feeling a bit nauseous because I have what feel like feet sticking out at the bottom of my bump. What is going on? It's moving all over the place and giving me massive BH contx. Yow. And (sorry) tmi I also have a bit of ahem 'discharge' going on - uck, uck, uck.

When the m/w listened in to the heart beat today she got it on the right side below my tummy button but then tried high up next to my ribs and also got it clearly there. Which sounds also like minimenace - who told our babies to turn around huh?
Oh bloody hell, I think it's feet are in my fou-fou. Owch.

Where is detsy........hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

frazzledoldbag · 05/05/2009 21:00

oh my word, how on earth did I manage to triple post that? Really sorry everyone

But hello 1stMrsF CONGRATULATIONS on the babies - sounds like you're doing brilliantly. What excellent weights too. And I love your names. Hope you're getting loads of help, good home cooked food, and as much sleep as it's possible to get. Take care x x

bekkaboo · 05/05/2009 21:01

Congrats 1stMRSF, hope you get some good rest tonight x

Febes · 05/05/2009 21:04

Congrats 1stmrsf glad you are home now. Lovely names!!! Well done on the great weights. Glad to hear you are resting and looking after yourself and your brood.x

Belgianchocolates · 05/05/2009 21:09

1stmrsf So nice to hear from you. I think you're right, being home with your dh will make the nights much much easier. Your lo's were a good size too. Hopefully the feeding will just go from strength to strength now that tongue tie has been cut. I think Reggie will be interested to know what your experience will be. All the best and enjoy now you're home

frazzled I thought I was having a deja vu first

Jennster · 05/05/2009 21:24

1stMrsF That's fantastic. Brilliant weights and lovely names. Well done!

Tummum What a lovely story. Makes me think perhaps I won't have to evacutae my dc for my water homebirth....

frazzledoldbag · 05/05/2009 21:42

Have just had 1/2 pint of Guinness and my head is all fuzzy. Oh dear, does that make me a bad mother? Baby seems to have stopped its gymnastics too, double bonus!

Was just reading about ECV for breech on here - mixed reports but much more successful in 2nd and subsequent babies. Will definitely have it if required.

Didn't mean to be negative about C/Sections - would just be a disaster for me re: school runs, afterschool activities, lifting DD2, etc etc MIL would normally help but she's childminding for my SIL so is busy and my dad/step-mum are going on holiday next week (great timing). Sorry if I offended anyone by saying I wouldn't want one, but it's really just my circumstances that would make it a nightmare. If it wasn't my 3rd baby and I had a mother around to help I'd probably think it was a much more attractive option! (could quite fancy a week or two in bed being looked after actually - mentioned this to DH who looked absolutely appalled at the prospect).

Belgianchocolates · 05/05/2009 21:47

frazzled I know exactly what you mean. That's exactly the same reason why I was panicking about needing a c/s a few weeks ago. There's no way I could not drive a car for 6 weeks with no family nearby and dh working away. If it is breech also ask them about a controlled ARM, (i.e. ECV and breaking your waters straightaway so lo can't turn back) if they think that for some reason you're at high risk for it failing. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you.

Grumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 05/05/2009 21:53

Tummum what a wonderful birth, I cried reading it - it's just what we sad waddlers needed . I am feeling so excited about my HB now woohoo!!!

1stMrsF - Fabulous names, amazing weights, you are a heroine!!!! I cried again!! I am in total awe of you

Dets Go girl! Go girl! Go girl! No pressure, but more babies are required to make everyone happy!

Frazz, minimenace and Ses, sorry you've had rubbish days/babies being naughty!! I hope you are all ok.

Dandy, yeah I'm not normally over-huggy but a big group hug would be spot-on! Failing that, I'll go hug DH (is like hugging a bear, it's lovely!)

Right - let's all get positive - not long to go.......we'll all have our babies soon.

COME ON DETSY

SesIsNowCountingdownthedays · 05/05/2009 21:57

frazz - I get movements really low down in pelvis that sometimes make me want to jump out of my seat as so sensitive but also get movements and bulges higher up. Nothing I can distinguish though!
I've been trying to sleep on my left but sometimes wake up and I'm on my back which I know won't help.
Am sitting and bouncing on my gym ball at the moment in the hope that will help too. Not v comfy as my back is hurting now!

1stMrsF - that is fantastic news. Huge congrats on your girls and their names are truly beautiful.

Tummum - thank you for sharing your story. It was a good read and left me with a lovely picture of your happy little family at 6am the next morning.

frazzledoldbag · 05/05/2009 22:01

Yes, isn't detsy being quiet. Hope that means she's in her birthing pool already.
dandy yes, so sorry i should have joined in the group huggery earlier.
belgian - oh, thanks so much for the tip about the controlled ARM during ECV. Guess that makes lots of sense if they think he's flipping around and not likely to stay there. Would that mean a high-tech labour though? - bet they wouldn't let me in the midwife-led unit in those circumstances would they????? or perhaps if I ask very nicely?
[frazzle waves goodbye to her earth-motherly hypno-birthing pool delivery with tears in her eyes]
Best wait and see before getting in a panic though eh?
[frazzle gives herself a slap round the chops with a wet fish]

Watching Master and Commander on TV with DH - making me feel sea sick. Might go for a bath. Nighty night.

ladyhelenatealltheeggs · 05/05/2009 22:06

tummum what a fantastic story.
istmrsf congrats to you too. We've all benn wondering. Lovely names too.
detsy sounds promising.......

Hope that everyone else feeling down will feel better soon. Juat remember, not long now......

Milk STILL not in. Am getting a bit anxious now. Rufus sounds so hoarse when he cries and is clearly desperate for food as he is frantic at the boob. So we've caved.....I hope it won't be disastrous for BF as we've given him 5mls of formula in a syringe. He immediately settled so poor thing must have been starving. Will call the MW in the morning and see if they can suggest anything but in the meantime, we'll probably give him another syringe in a few hours. Right , off to get ready for bed now.
Hope there will be some news in the morning from detsy.

minimenace · 05/05/2009 22:14

Belgian thanks so much for the re-assurance, I knew I would probably be able to count on you to make me feel better about it.

I just didn't want to be treking to the hospital at this late stage for just a scan but I guess it's better to get checked.

then I slipped on the stairs earlier coming down and fell down onto my bottom with a thump, slid down the last couple and jammed the stairgate between my toes - not a great thing to do. that will teach me not to have my slippers on - think I should maybe just go to bed.

Frazz I'm not getting kicks down low but an all over wave type movement from the bottom of my bump right to the top - I'm also getting quite a few ... ahem ... bubbles - very weird. I know how you feel about the C-Sections and feel the same I am so hoping for my VBAC this time but have nothing against those who choose them - I had no problems recovering from mine last time but it just won't be too convenient for me this time.

Brilliant news 1stMrsF wow they are fantastic weights for twins and such gorgeous names. Well done you - such a great achievement with the feeding too.

Good luck detsy hope your sweep has done the trick

Agree with the group hug grumpy ... to ALL ... HUG

flippineck · 05/05/2009 22:18

Evening all!

jael - sorry to hear about your scar problems, hope all gets sorted soon. Bet you're glad to be home though.

reggiee - no experience of tonge tie, hope that the snipping goes well. I've heard that it is very successful.

sausage - we were at Bluewater on Sunday and nobody commented on my bump! Mind you, we were there at 11, all shopping finished by 1230 then a long leisurely lunch and home.

alapala - poor DS, that doesn't sound nice. And poor you too, you could do without that right now.

ses - fingers crossed for the scan on thursday. Get your bum in the air! iykwim!!!

detsy - it's all getting exciting!

tummum - your story is wonderful, beautiful aand inspiring! Thank you for sharing it. I've got a huge smile now, and am hoping for somthing similar, but without the pool.

1stmrsF - Huge congratulations to you! Lovely names, and what good weights!

Think that's all the mentions I need to make, but also need to add a big genreal hug to you all - it's getting ahrd now isn't it?!

pulapula · 05/05/2009 22:19

ladyhelen- I wouldn't worry about giving a bit of formula in a syringe (or cup), as long as you keep putting him on the boob too to encourage your milk supply as it sounds like its on its way. With my DD my milk didn't come in until day 5 or 6 and my MW kept telling me not to worry (I think stress probably doesn't help!) and that some women don't notice the milk coming in (I think she said this to make me feel more relaxed about it).

1stMrsF- congratulations on the arrival of your 2 DDs- lovely names (I would have chosen Millie if i was having a girl ).

Momino · 05/05/2009 22:21

1stMrsF congrats on your lovely girls. hope you can get some rest.

detsy, where are you? can't wait to hear if this is it!

tummum, that birth story is amazing and icried too when i read it.

reggiee, tongue tie: glad you're getting it sorted. dd1 had it and hindered her feeding. before consultant would give in to snipping, we had to wait a couple of weeks to see if dd1 wasn't gaining weight . they finally snipped and dd fed so much better immediately. things have changed since 2006 and i think GP/MW are more proactive these days about getting it fixed.

BF going a bit better now that milk has come in. still don't think H's latch is great and she falls asleep in the middle of feeds. but, it's early days so we'll see how she gets along. Have called the nCt bf line for advice and will ask mw when she visits thu about latching.

hope you're all well tonight.

Momino · 05/05/2009 22:23

oh, jael, if you're reading: hope you're feeling better soon. x

Momino · 05/05/2009 22:41

Not sure if anyone around - really weird but having either v.strong BHs or are they contactions. They seem quite regular but too close together this early. They are only lasting 20-30 seconds. They were 8 mins apart but then I had 2 mild ones quite close then a stong one. been happening for about an hour.

I'm not sure if it may be down to the bump I had on the stairs earlier.

TMI ... I also had a very very loose bowel movement in the middle of 2 ctxs a short while ago.

Think I'll wait to ring the hospital as I don't want them to drag me over there when this may just stop shortly.

Listening to Hipno birth cd now - relaxing for a bit

Thanks DandyL thanks for the support.

DH persuaded me to call hospital - they think maybe due to the fall it's triggered them irregularly. They told me to take paracetamol and try and get some sleep. To call them back in 2 hours if I can't get to sleep and they are worse.

hopefully it will settle down in a while.
