OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
SesIsNowCountingdownthedays · 05/05/2009 17:23

Thanks Belgian and MatthewandBumpsMummy

MW has just phoned and the first available scan is Thurs at 11am. DH has a meeting at 10am about 15 mins from hospital so he's hoping it doesn't go on and he can get there for the scan. I hope so too as I do find scans particularly scary. With the 2 mmcs last year, it feels like I've rarely had a good scan...

What will be, will be though and worst case scenario, I'll just have to get my head around a CS and staying in hospital for a few days.

sausage - I'm v impressed that you made it to and around Bluewater! I love that place but it doesn't really appeal at the moment!

alapala - hope your DS's ear clears up. Has he got antibiotics for it?

alapala · 05/05/2009 17:27

Ses he has and they seem to be starting to work - though the bad ear now sticks out an inch more than the other one - I hope it goes back after .

It's going to be 30 degrees already in madrid tomorrow - and I thought I was being clever not being preggers in the summer!

Jennster · 05/05/2009 17:32

Jael Sorry to hear you're not on your feet yet. Take care and rest.

belgian Enjoy your meal tonight with the children and lets hope you don't manage to make the meal on Friday.

Reggie Good look with the tongue snip, and thank goodness it was noticed now not weeks later.

Ses Hope everything goes well on Thursday. I had a presentation scan today, and they fitted me in today because my mw appt was first thing.

Everybody else hello and hope you and your little ones are all well. Is there a postnatal thread yet?

Jennster · 05/05/2009 17:41

Wow started that post 30 mins ago and realised I had to get dinner on.

Febes It's chicken and mushroom pie for dinner tonight with cauliflower peas and carrots. Strawberries for pudding.

Febes · 05/05/2009 18:25

Fish pie is made and looks damn good if I do say so myself. Will bung in the oven soonish. DH promised to bath Anabel so I hope he gets up soon. He worked all night and all day so is catching 40 winks now but will hopefully get up and then go back to bed so he sleeps tonight.

DD turned off the spinner on the washing machine so its not the washing machine thats broken thank goodnes. She is definately teething as had 2 massive poos and is a bit off her food and has woken early for the past 5 days or so. She also emptied a whole packet of brand new wipes today. I just stuffed them back in

I have been dashing around like a mad thing today knackered but oddly full of energy and can't relax so wouldn't surprise me if something kicks off. But I've gone and jinxed it now. Don't want to anyway want at least another week if possible.

ladyhelenatealltheeggs · 05/05/2009 18:29

Have a few mins but need to wake Rufus up in a sec.

momimo any of that cake left?? Sounds delicious and just what a BF mother needs!

My milk hasn't yet made an appearance but I think its on its way, as boobs feel tingly. If nothing has happened by tomorrow will be calling in the MWs.

Had a terrible night. R awake all night. Frantically rooting for boob and even when near just couldn't get him latched on. He conked out at 5.40am and has been asleep loads today. Bleeding typical!

Sorry, can't name check everyone I want to. Its a different ball game with a new one to juggle now.

Reggiee · 05/05/2009 18:50

Thanks so much for your comments re the tongue tie. V much appreciated.
I'll be ringing the hospital tomorrow am to check they received our referral, then just this next week to get through to next Tuesday's snip.

Am going for a nap now. Have a good evening / night all.

Jennster · 05/05/2009 19:05

Hmm Ds has been moved out of the baby room at nursery and has a new 'Auntie' looking after him. She has the same name as no3 is going to be called. Shame he pronounces it 'Fucker'

euromum · 05/05/2009 19:34

Afraid I am a bit short on time tonight so won't respond to everyone's details, but I do hope our various problems/complaints/general grumpiness/hormones/late babies/etc improve soon. Won't bore you with the details but have also had a really crappy day and am so fed up with being pregnant, and now I'm reminded of all the stressful things about birth and newborn babies! Here's hoping beyond hope that everyone gets a good night tonight, whatever help they need, and I'm sending as many good vibes as I can muster for tomorrow.

One practical thing febes - every time our washign machine does that it's because the filter is full of crap. If it is that, it's pretty easy to take it out and clean it - it's normally a little round disk at the bottom of the machine that you can just unscrew (carefully, there's probably loads of water behind it that'll come out all at once). Giving it a good clean usually sorts the problem out.

detsy · 05/05/2009 19:45

Just a real quickie update from me as have a ton of stuff to do.

Had sweep today am 2.5cm dilated and good to go Since then have had various pains and now got nagging backache just been to the loo and had a large gloop of pinky show....so, maybe things are finally afoot??! Doc said he couldn't see me getting to the end of the week anyway.

Off for clary bath but have to finish 3 basket liners for nursery wardrobe first blotted would be sooo proud of my efforts!!!

Wasn't on line yesterday - hope not missed any new babies?

Will keep you gals posted good luck to those in similar near labour situations (or hopeful near labour at least!) Prob all be a false alarm with me...

Cath you soon xx

pulapula · 05/05/2009 19:52

Detsy that sounds very promising. I will wait to hear more!!

SesIsNowCountingdownthedays · 05/05/2009 20:07

Detsy - does sound promising Fingers crossed for you!

Dandy - we have a similar sleeping issue at the moment and if DH is in the spare room we both sleep better so it seems to be the right solution for us at the moment
(Btw, group hug sounds good to me too!)

I think the thought that this baby may need a CS within the week rather than hanging on for labour 10-14 days late has pushed me into action! I've made up the cotbed this afternoon and just about finished hospital bag packing! May need to repack bags as can't close one of them... Also the baby won't be in the cotbed just yet as we have a moses basket, but it does look cute

After all that, I'll probably still be here in 2 weeks!

frazzledoldbag · 05/05/2009 20:12

Hi girls. Haven't been on in a couple of days as far too grumpy to join in with your lovely chat. Thanks for all the good wishes and support - you lot are absolute stars.
Not sure where to start and am bound to miss out loads but off the top of my head
jael - you poor thing I hope you start feeling much better soon.
belgian - sorry you're feeling under pressure to deliver on a schedule. Fingers crossed it all kicks off for you soon....
llare - well done with the weight gain
reggiee - my DD2 had a tongue tie. Caused feeding probs and v sore nips. I didn't get it snipped as they said it probably wouldn't make a difference (honestly - load of rubbish). My advice is get it done AS SOON AS POSS - I've requested if this next baby has a tongue tie I want it done on the day of delivery. Apparently if you're bolshy about it they will just get on and do it. Good luck with the feeding.
ladyh sounds like you milk is coming if your boobs are tingly. Send DH out for a cabbage and bung it in the fridge for later - it really works if they get a bit hot and engorged.
Ses I could have written your earlier post myself - was also at midwife this afternoon and asked her to do a sweep (am 38+3) and having constant braxton hicks and quite sore so she had a feel of my tummy first and pronounced the baby breech (probably). Am booked for a scan to check position at 11am in the morning (my DH will be in meetings all morning so can't come either) so if it is breech, and they do want to turn it I'll be on my own (gulp). My fingers are crossed that the midwife is wrong! I DO NOT want a C-Section, not one little bit!
Detsy - I've got real labourish vibes about you now - go girl, go girl, go girl!!!!!! Fingers crossed for you. We need another new baby on this thread soon......
1st MrsF any news? Hope all going well.
Right DH home so off to have dinner of steak, baked potato and greenery. Yum.

SesIsNowCountingdownthedays · 05/05/2009 20:18

frazz - that does sound almost exactly the same! (You've got a little bit more time on your side than me though as I'm 39+3 today and have to wait til Thurs...!) I'll be thinking of you though and hope they are wrong and your LO is positioned well and doesn't need turning.
I'd always told myself that if I needed a CS, it would be for a good reason and that it wouldn't matter. If I need one, I'm sure that's still the case but will take me a bit of time to accept it I suppose. I've been telling myself all afternoon that if I do need a CS then it really won't matter once I have a lovely healthy baby in my arms.

Btw, hope that's not insensitive to anyone that has had or is going to have a CS. It really is just about accepting it's the right thing to do if necessary and getting my head round it all.

Right, I really must go and get myself something to eat!

minimenace · 05/05/2009 20:19

Well I'm back - sent home with no sweep

Appointment started well, Midwife (not mine) examined me and said baby was well positioned with it's back straight down my middle, head down etc. She said I could be nearing labour as my blood pressure had gone up slightly and that was a good sign. Head still engaged etc, all good so far.

Then just before she was about to do the sweep she checked the heartbeat with the doppler down low where she thought it should be and had trouble locating it. I wasn't panicked at all because baby was kicking and squirming everywhere she was just unable to get the heartbeat - she mentioned she might need to change batteries but then she tried higher up and got it straight away. This then worried her she started to doubt herself thinking that maybe baby was breech afterall. she checked again confirming legs up and head down but decided she wants a 'presentation scan' done 'due to Fetal heart being heard above umbilicus ?breech? ' therefore wouldn't do my sweep or even check my cervix as not wanting to risk starting labour incase I am now breech. okay I agree with that just wish she could have been a bit more sure.

Everything feels exactly the same to me - I still have the pressure down below. she said the baby felt head down it's all because of the heartbeat So now DH has to take time off work on Thursday to take me to scan.

Someone mentioned to me that the heartbeat is sometimes difficult to locate at this stage when the head is right down ?????

Anyway I'm totally fed up for now. So sorry for the MEME post. will try and cheer up and catch up with todays thread shortly.

pulapula · 05/05/2009 20:20

It seems like my nesting urge has kicked in. We've decided to create a nursery for LO after all (we didn't want to lose the study) so we've ordered a new computer desk to go in the dining room, and will then find some space for all the paper files so we can take the shelving units down. The desk is coming on Thursday, so DH will be busy rearranging things over the weekend (even though the nursery wont be needed straightaway). I am looking forward to getting my baby's room just right lol.

MatthewAndBumpsMummy · 05/05/2009 20:23

good luck detsy sending positive labour vibes your way, hope things happen soon and cant wait to hear the good news

Tummum · 05/05/2009 20:25

Sounds like a big group hug is required - lots of sympathies to everyone still waiting for babies. It's so crap.

While I have 10 mins (G is asleep before evening feeding for ages in the evening) I have written my birth story. I'm a bit anxious it's the wrong thing to post, so I hope you don't think it's insensitive when lots of people are waiting to have their LOs are are getting really fed up.

After my sweep on Thursday afternoon with a really un-favourable cervix, I had resigned myself to thinking that this LO would not arrive for at least a week, following the trend of 2DC being 12 days over due date. So got up at 6.30am with the kids and did the normal Saturday morning stuff... TV, snacks, homework etc. I got a few regular BH twinges in the morning but no different to the previous few weeks. I also had a little show but knew that didn't mean much.

As a 'fed up of being overdue' treat we decided to go for lunch at a Japanese for lunch, so bundled the kids in to the car at 12 and proceeded to drive there, except I got 3 painful contractions that I needed to breathe through in the 1st 5 miles! I said that I wanted to go home and have a bath to see what happened, so we turned around, came home via Dominos pizza (!) and had some pizza for lunch. For this time I was getting regular ctx every 5 mins or so for a minute that I was needing to lean over the counter and breathe through (eating pizza in between, obviously )! It looked like things were really starting up, so DH called our friend and asked her to come over and take the DC to the park so that we could have some time and see what was happening. She turned up and whisked them away, and meanwhile they were getting thick and fast at every 2 mins for a minute each and I was needing to really breathe to get through them. So we called the MW who got here at 2pm.

The MW asked lots of questions about my pregnancy, previous labours and what I would like to do for this birth. She then offered a VE to see what was going on, so we went upstairs to my bedroom for this. I was 2-3cms (yay!), but the ctx had really slowed down. She suggested that she leave us until I was really feeling the ctx and she would be back. As she left, the ctx completely stopped, and I was gutted. But we used the time to set up the birthing pool and I finished making the jaffacakecakecake (!). We also called my parents to ask if they could come up and look after the DC if it all kicked off again. I was tired after all the activity of the day, so I went to bed for a nap at about 4pm. Except the ctx came back, much more intensively. So I went downstairs again to lean over my birthing ball and breathe through them whilst DH rubbed my back (and watched the rugby!). At about 5pm we called the MW again and started to fill the pool. My parents turned up and took the kids out for tea. From here on it, it's a bit of a blur ! DC and MW both turned up about 7pm ish by which time I wanted G&A because ctx lasted about 2 mins with about 30 seconds break. Owch. I went to bedroom to be examined again (6cm - yay!) whilst DH put kids to bed, and they were so tired they went straight to sleep. I went in the pool at about 8pm, which was a really lovely experience - the water was so warm and I felt I could move myself into a much more comfortable position. I was leaning over the side of the pool and breathing in the G&A (wonderful stuff). It got much more intense at this point. I relaxed through it all, waters broke in the pool at 8.50pm, and after breathing very deeply (and NO pushing) baby Gethin turned up at 9pm. It was very surreal (TMI alert) I felt his head come out, and then he turned around and came out with the next ctx. The relief was instant and wonderful . I scooped him out of the pool, and handed him to DH, who cut the cord because I was having a managed 3rd stage. The MWs helped me out of the pool and I delivered a 5lb placenta within about 5 minutes, a quick check that no stitches required. Then into a bath robe, sat down and had a cup of tea cuddling Gethin. Bliss !

We all went to bed at 10pm and DC came into the bedroom at 6am when they heard their Brother crying, so we all had a lovely big cuddle in bed. The best thing ever !

sausagenmash · 05/05/2009 20:34

Omg Tummum that is bloody AMAZING!!!! I want one JUST like THAT! (except I'm going into hospital, but STILL!) Just wondering if your MIL called half way through to say 'hello have you had the baby yet'?!!! Well done you, you must be so, so chuffed!

Best of luck Detsy! Ses - when I say I went round Bluewater... I think we only went to about 5 shops, no mooching, very specific things on 'to do' list, and only went down one side of the triangle! My friend also came to pick me up, so I didn't have to drive either! Certainly was NOT a usual Bluewater mission! (I've been told the new shopping mall in Bayswater, west London, is amAZing - anyone been there?)

Btw - group hug to us all: xoxoxox

minimenace · 05/05/2009 20:36

What a beautiful Birth Story Tummum and just what is needed right now to cheer us all up and give us all hope.
It really will be worth it all in the end ladies Thanks so much tumm I really appreciate the happy tears you have just given me.

Febes · 05/05/2009 20:46

Tummum your birth story is so lovely and definately the right thing to write. That's what it is all about and what we all want. Thanks for sharing it sounds perfect.

Belgianchocolates · 05/05/2009 20:48

Aaaw Tummum your birth story made me all choke up. It's almost just like I'm imagining a h/b to be for me (without the pool bit ). Especially the bit about your dc waking up to their brother crying is just why I want to have a h/b.

detsy good luck and hopefully that sweep has done the trick for you

ses frazzled I keep my fingers crossed for your scans. I'm surprised they didn't mention an ecv. In the mean time it might be an idea to stick your bum up in the air!

minimace I imagine it must be v. worrying for you too, but if the mw is sure she can feel head down and you haven't felt anything different, then more then likely it'll be head down with dopplers you don't always pick up the heartrate where you expect. A pinard stetoscope would have been more accurate. TBH I've got my own doppler and I've had days where I could pick up the baby's heart rate on the top AND bottom of my bump, both equally clear too

Reggie while you're waiting for the tongue tie to be snipped it might be an idea to use nipple shields for a while if your nipps are v. sore. Just to bridge the gap. I've met a few people whose baby's tongue tie snipped and it really was an instant relief for them.

My meal was lovely, except that DH had had a bad phonecall from a tenant (he rents out a flat he used to use near where he works) and so he spent most of the meal brooding over it. But it was nice with my mum and the dcs anyway.
