Reallytired · 19/04/2009 16:48

I gave birth to a daughter last Thursday 16th April. She was born at home after a labour of 3 hours and 18 minutes.

We are doing fine, but I got really sore and cracked nipples. dd is doing well though.

surprisenumber3 · 19/04/2009 16:59

Congrats Reallytired, that was quick!!

Hmm....everyone is overtaking me!

Yes Nutty, this is the thread you will give birth during! Two days to go, two days to go.....

BabyBolat · 19/04/2009 17:24

Congrats reallytired and what a beautiful dd Brett - well done you xxxx

purplemonkeydishwasher · 19/04/2009 17:53

just popping in for a bit to see if there's any news...and there is!
congrats brett and reallytired!

not much to report here. had an awesome day today. got groceries, then, since it's so nice out, we grabbed some sandwiches and went for a picnic at our favourite picnic spot. feeling quite tired now and my feet are up again so i'm now sitting on my arse while DH and DS go to MIL's to drop off the ironing (i swear to god she's phoned about 5 times to see if it's ready yet...grrrrrrrrrr) thankfully the sun was out so we were able to put through about 5 loads of washing. including all the little baby things and DH's work shirts so she should be happy

for those of you who have already had your babies...what was the one thing that you really wish you had had in hospital? and what did you find completely useless? trying to put finishing touches on my bag and am looking for some handy tips. i picked up some anti-bacterial cleaning wipes today, that was one thing wished that i had last time. and i'll need to get some more chocoalte as i keep dipping into my hosptial stash!

right. i'm off to put my feet up again. and drink some water. i'm feeling a bit headachy and don't fancy another trip to the hospital!!

purplemonkeydishwasher · 19/04/2009 17:57

Oh! meant to say that there wre sheep giving birth near the place where we were picnicking! DH and I were in awe! but DS got impatient so we didn't get to see one actually being born. just about htough!

it was amazing! (i couldn't help chanting 'push.pussssshhhhh'!) we saw some just after when the ewe was eating the placenta and the little tiny lamb was sitting in the sun.
totally made my day!

KittyCatIsGettingFat · 19/04/2009 18:05

Aaah purple that's sooo cute... I am PMSL at your "puuuuuush" to the sheep!! tee hee...

Tried to have a lie down earlier but got too antsy during the contractions, so had a lovely bath instead. I put some clary sage and lavender in, which was great, so let's see what happens!

Poor DH is so tired of all the false alarms... his comment was "how do we KNOW that this is it when you haven't lost your plug yet? Surely you can't be dilating if its still in there" - which is a VERY GOOD POINT and has made me a bit depressed... anyone have any thoughts on this?

purplemonkeydishwasher · 19/04/2009 18:31

kitty - when iwas induced with DS i don[t remember losing my plug. and i definitely gave birth so i wouldn[t worry about it too much. i was 10cm dilated and my waters hadn't gone either so just go by the contractions i think.

when i was in triage the other night i overheard many phone calls. the MW kept saying that they are looking for 4 contractions in 10 minutes. (4 in 10, 4 in 10... i heard i so many times i dreamed abot it!!)

and sheep need alittle bit of encouragement too you know!

NuttyBlowUpEasterBunny · 19/04/2009 18:33

i lost my plug when the contractions were really strong (3-5 mins apart)

OP posts:
surprisenumber3 · 19/04/2009 18:34

Kitty - my plug didn't come out until I had been in established labour for a good few hours and was about ready to start pushing. My waters had gone so I assumed the plug had gone with them but then the midwife said he DH as I felt I needed to push 'oooh look she's had a show!'

NuttyBlowUpEasterBunny · 19/04/2009 18:39

OP posts:
KittyCatIsGettingFat · 19/04/2009 19:23

every 9 and a half mins, Nutty and bladdy sore!!!

PLEEEEEEEEASE let this be it... I don't think my nerves can take another day of this stress!!

Carameli · 19/04/2009 19:34

Congrats reallytired that was fast. noting much happening here. I put up some new curtains in our room and went shopping in Epsom and then onto the downs with dd and ds to get out of dh's hair. He has a huge presentation for a client tomorrow and is a little stressed about it all so would serve him right if things kicked off tonight, is it cruel to wish that even dd said I don't know if daddy deserves a chocolate cookie if he is so grumpy then on Weds he is off to Bristol for the day, possibly tempting fate I think.
Had a bad night last night with ds(2.5yrs nearly) as he has a molar coming through I think, I went into him and ended up falling asleep next to him(he has a huge double bed which helps). Hoping he has a better night tonight.

Good luck Kitty hope things keep progressing for you. With dd and ds I can never remember the plug at all, I know both times they had to break my waters at the hospital and things certainly got intense after that but did not stop contractions getting stronger before that. So not expecting and trickles or gushes here at all, although going to Asda tomorrow before lunch with a pal so maybe going to a supermarket will persuade my waters to flood out

surprisenumber3 · 19/04/2009 19:41

woohoo kitty - getting closer...this MUST be it!

BabyBolat · 19/04/2009 19:44

oooh Kitty yay - this definitely seems like it is it

Just posted and lost it all

re plug - I had some a few days before but then had a massive bloody show during established labour - really freaked me out all that blood!

re hospital bag - complete waste of time was make up and toiletries, wish I had more / nicer PJs for post birth and a greater range of food and drink!

brettgirl2 · 19/04/2009 19:51

Kitty - the cervix apparently flattens before it dilates. With a first baby this usually takes quite a long time. When I had a first internal at hospital I was only 1cm dilated but was told that cervix was flat - it went to 6cm very fast and had full show then (I had lost a few bits of mucus previously with no blood). I also had to have waters broken. Just keep walking around to keep that pressure on the cervix as long as it isn't too painful.

Congrats to really tired - 3 hours how many minutes????

brettgirl2 · 19/04/2009 19:53

I agree about the makeup - as if you are going to get your lippy out in the delivery room for the first photo .

Very useful - dressing gown and flip flops.

BabyBolat · 19/04/2009 20:00

It really is the last thing you think about - I felt disgusting after I gave birth (with no bathroom at home plus all the sweat / blood etc) just felt really dirty and MW didn't want me to shower until the morning (12 hours later) so any kind of wipe / freshen up would probably be good! I only took really basic make up to make myself feel human and didn't even touch it!

I went in at 3cms dilated and stayed that way for hours (until lunchtime the day after) then in 3 hours went from 3-fully to the shock and delight of everyone!

mathshoneybunny27 · 19/04/2009 20:05

hello and huge congrats to all new arrivals

I actually quite like BFing - its a revelation! xx

BabyBolat · 19/04/2009 20:22

Have uploaded a couple of pics of Kara a little older and also (finally) for schultes and puzzle pics of the bathroom as I went in to labour (these are from 2 days before when my waters first broke before the suite and floor was ripped out!!)
