Found the F5 button thanx Laurenismorethan..

Well just to update you all. The MW left at about 1130 and we've managed to catch up on some much needed kip.

Unfortunately the contractions have slowed to about 15 mins apart and we've decided to have a bath then a little waddle to get things moving again.

Kitty is being a super star though and the MW thinks we're doing amazingly

purplemonkeydishwasher · 20/04/2009 14:31

Well hello all! I can't believe how much I've missed! Will try and catch up after a short post, and am slowly typing my birth story one-handed. Just wanted to pop my head in first to say congrats to everyone else who has popped.

Hugo George was born on the 15th and weighed 9lb 2oz.

And now for the PANIC! He's just been weighed and has lost over 600g, about 16% of birth weight . Labour and birth quite traumatic, he was v.bruised and we think probably in a lot of pain for the first few days, and feeding didn't get off to a good start. Hopefully the weight loss is just due to a difficult first few days, but I thought it had improved over the last 2 days or so. MW wants me to give top-ups with formula or breast milk if I can express enough. I don't understand top-ups. If he's finished with the breast, how will I get him to take any more from a cup?

bronze · 20/04/2009 14:38

BB and others who asked. My dad seemed pretty chuffed but it wasnt a great line and of course he hasn't met him yet. i have that to look forward to

I'm doing great. Minimal bleeding, no pain when going to the loo, boobs are settling down finally and I'm getting enough sleep. Dh is being a star and has taken ds1 and 2 to the toy shop tospend birthday money, dd is watching ITNG and I finally have a minute to myself.
Isaac is a little star. MW came today and hes only lost 7ox so is 7lb 7 now. Hes feeding well and had his heel prick without even crying hes that laid back.
hes definitely my pfb (precious fourth born), the sun is shining and life couldnt be better.

bronze · 20/04/2009 14:40

Puzzle I think you and dh did amazingly, she sounds bitter

Ju its down to you but find top ups can sometimes make it worse. supply and demand and all that

WhatFreshHellIsThis · 20/04/2009 14:45

Hi Juwesm - congratulations on Hugo! On the topups, I think the reason is that bf is quite hard work for newborns, and often they can get tired and fall asleep before they've had enough to eat, iyswim, especially with a traumatic birth that would have tired them out a lot.

So tipping some in with a cup means they don't have to work for that bit of milk. Good luck with the expressing

BabyBolat · 20/04/2009 14:47

He just sprayed poo in my face! that is truly horrific!!!

BabyBolat · 20/04/2009 14:49

ooh hey ju - know nothing about top ups but hope things are getting better xxx

Can't reply to everyone now, but just saw Ju (ace names!) & wanted to say that you shouldn't let her coerce you into giving formula if you don't want to.

If you want to try expressing, do it from one side whilst he's feeding at the other to get maximum milk.

Remember skin to skin - spend as much time as possible cuddled up in bed with him in just his nappy & you topless.

When he's finished feeding on one side, offer him the other - & then the first side again when he's finished there.

Don't let him sleep for too long before feeds. Wake him every 2 hours during the day & every 4 at night if he's not waking up. If he falls asleep very quickly during a feed, or is reluctant to wake up, tickle his feet or under his chin.

You probably know all of those things, but thought they could do with restating. & don't forget to take care of yourself, too - keep a bottle of water with you all the time in case you get thirsty.

Don't let her talk you into FF unless you're happy with that - it will quite possibly damage your supply, which won't help.

He's a really good size though - don't worry yourself too much. Some babies do just lose a little extra weight. What's his poo like? How many changes are you doing a day? xx

BabyBolat · 20/04/2009 14:52

He had cotton wool stuck to his balls so was getting all that off (concentrating) when this wet watery fart went off in my face and it went everywhere - even on my eyelashes!!!

bronze · 20/04/2009 14:52

was just thinking thing same nutty. hope you r mouth was shut bb.

Ds1 used to do foamy projectile poos. I have learned from experience.

bronze · 20/04/2009 14:55

couple mor epics on profile

dh took along his swanky camera, huge camera bag, lenses etc and then discovered he had left the memory card behind....muppet so I havent really had any pics except that first one taken on my phone. Will be trying to rectify that.
