I have gone with Sorky's idea!!!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Kayzr · 15/04/2009 11:55

But Glask she is putting weight on so surely that should be ok.

DH isn't very keen on me trying to BF again as he said I was too tired last time and that Dylan drinks too much milk as he has 8oz every 4 hours.

glaskham · 15/04/2009 12:01

well she's not put any weight on in the last 7 days since they last weighed her.
because she's so small we need to get her weight up, she's only put on 13oz since birth, and she's nearly 8weeks old.

sorkycakey · 15/04/2009 12:03

yes diege I did see it...load of tripe. Everyone I know thinks we're crazy to have 4, other than those with 4 or more themselves

Kids came running upstairs and woke her up, now she's all out of sorts, can't go back to sleep but does seem very tired and is rooty but not hungry

Diege 4 is hard man

Kayzr · 15/04/2009 12:17

I would love 4, but promised DH we'll stop at 3 if no 3 is a DD. I'm going to get a book about that shettles method for choosing a sex. We'd be very happy with a 3rd boy but would love a girl. So if it works we have a DD but if not we will have another lovely DS.

I'v just sponsered my friend to do a bungee jump at whitby next weekend. I can't wait to go and watch him!!

tinkhaseatentoomanyeastereggs · 15/04/2009 12:35

hope that ruby gains weight glas

glaskham · 15/04/2009 12:50

me too tink, me too... the next step i'm sure would be full formula, which i really really dont wanna do!!

My sister has been texting me this morning, her DS (my nephew) has a high temp and has chicken pox (caught off my DC's), she managed to get him in for an emergency app straight away but has been told to take him to the hospital as his temp is very high, and his pox are so bad the GP can't check if there's anything else wrong hope he's ok!!

Kayzr · 15/04/2009 12:56

Bless your nephew. I hope he is better soon.

Have you posted in breast and bottle feeding? They may be some people there that could help with regards to feeding. Is is possible to BF, give her formula and EBM top ups? Though I suppose with 3 DCs BF and expressing me be a bit difficult.

sorkycakey · 15/04/2009 13:22

have they advised to express the fore ilk off first Glask, so that she just gets the high calorie hindmilk?
Are they investigating why she isn't gaining weight rather than simply laying fault at your door?
there's no reason to suspect that your milk isn't nourishing her adequately if it's done so for your other children.

Diege · 15/04/2009 13:23

Good advice there from KAYZ GLASK - really hope your nephew gets better soon x
SORKY, did you find life with 4 easier than looking after 3 while heavily pregnant?

glaskham · 15/04/2009 13:45

I'm expressing the fore-milk off before every daytime feed sorky, but just not at night, but now she'll be on 2 formula feeds in the day i think i'll start to express the fore-milk at night. I'm worried about my supply dwindelling too, just tried to express a feeds-worth as i'm going to give her a bottle for her next feed and i only got 30mls... i was hand expressing though and have only been expressing about 5mls of fore-milk away... i wont have enough milk for her needs if my supply decreases... i think i'm gonna ask to borrow a pump from the nurses from SCBU so i can express and get my supply back up again.

sorkycakey · 15/04/2009 13:47

yes it's a smidge easier with 4, but that's prolly because I was on crutches with SPD, couldn't get out of the house or look after them properly and needed help to come in.
God I would never ever do it again!
I'm getting there, sloooooooooowly....with the help of mini-eggs.

Routine is out the window Diege. She stayed awake until 1.30pm when she has fallen fast asleep next to me on the bed. I'll try again tomorrow I suppose.

How do you stop a 2yo from crashing around the house? ?

Have managed the ironing though, which is a huge task out of the way. Kids have done their work for today, house isn't trashed....yet.
So all in all I think I'll declare today a success and yesterday was a raging success too, so maybe I'm on a roll and have finally cracked it.

I'm sure you'll be fine Diege and put me to shame within days of the wee-man arriving
I don't regret it one bit, it is hard but entirely worth it

sorkycakey · 15/04/2009 13:49

do you sleep with her Glask? i don't remember where i read it, but I'm sure sleeping with baby increases prolactin at night and increases milk.
Moos is better with links to research and stuff I find.
I hope you are okay with your decision. Continuing to express sounds like a good plan

Diege · 15/04/2009 13:55

Phew, sounds pretty full on...my solution to rampaging toddler is to put in nursery Tried keeping dd3 off for a day (felt mean) but was impossible to answer e-mails etc without screaming my head off at the lot of them.. TBH you sound pretty inspirational to me - always so sorted and upbeat! Agree, maybe just start routine tomorrow and play by ear for rest of day!
Feel a wimp for moaning when I have no SPD issues/nausea etc, but feel so tired I can hardly keep my eyes open. Am waking 3.30ish and not managing to get back to sleep, and may also be a touch anaemic I think...not to mention the constant heartburn (I'll be the one scoffing the gaviscon with my cream scone in Betty's .
Right, alternating between the ironing board, pacifying dds, and marking student essays..Must go out to PO now!

glaskham · 15/04/2009 14:16

No sorky, she sleeps in her moses basket next to our bed... i'm a little scared about co-sleeping with her being so tiny, I accidentally did with the other 2, DS was in our becd till 8wks old, and DD was in and out of ours depending on wether i fell asleep feeding in the night or not...

Just fed her her 1st bottle of today, she's almost drained a 3oz bottle!! thats almost twice as much as she should have for her size!! The nurses said she 'needs' to be getting 47mls a feed if she went 3hrly.

Moosy · 15/04/2009 14:21

Sorry you're having to top up more Glask, and afraid I'm no pro on BFing either having failed to feed both of mine. I hope she grows soon and you can get back to doing things your way.

I keep having bursts of feeling fine, then crashing in to a nauseous heap. This is so alien to me, one one hand I'm very happy not to be feeling bad all the time, but OTOH I'm worrying about things going wrong or [shock horror] a.... boy

Diege · 15/04/2009 17:12

Oooh MOOSY I think boy too now . Am still about having a boy myself!
Just had e-mail back from private birth centre that offers 'late packages' to those that want to give birth there (still wavering on the hows and wheres of giving birth). Am totally gobsmaked that they charge £3,000 to have baby at their birthing centre (plus 2 antenatal appointments and a birth 'debrief) . Was I naive in thinking it would be a lot less than that!! Suddenly good old NHS seems a lot more appealing

Moosy · 15/04/2009 17:18

I've just told DDs the big secret! I was feeling all mopey and snapping at them, so I said sorry for being all grumpy and tired. DD1 asked if I was poorly and I said no, but she looked really worried so I explained that I've got a baby in my tummy and that's why I feel all yucky and tired all the time. She grinned the biggest grin I've ever seen and said "Can we call it George?"

Now she keeps saying we'll need baby stuff and asking me questions (I hope they don't too difficult to answer!), and I've told her that it's still a secret and that she's only allowed to talk about it with me, DH and DD2.

We talked a bit about when it would come out and how I would get a big tummy first, DD1 seems to understand lots, but DD2 just looked blank then said "I love you Mummy....... are you fat?"

Moosy · 15/04/2009 17:18

Diege, that does sound a lot of money! Do you have an NHS midwife-led unit near you?

Kayzr · 15/04/2009 17:22

Awwwww Moosy that is so cute.

Diege, that sounds fairly expensive.

Moosy · 15/04/2009 17:26

Diege what's putting you off the HB?

And wtf is a birth debrief? "Here is your baby, you are no longer pregnant, goodbye" ??

Soooooooooo, here's one for you all, judging by this chart, how accurate has it been for you? It was right for both DDs, now it's saying this one's a boy.

SesIsCountingdowntheweeks · 15/04/2009 17:27

Aww Moos, that's so cute
Do you like the name George??!! (Am sure they'll come up with tons of more names / ideas!)

Diege - that is an awful lot of money!

Glask - sorry with no experience, not sure what to say but have seen your updated photos on FB and she looks adorable. Have you tried posting on the BF boards? Hope your nephew gets better soon.

Baby has moved position again. It seems to like resting over to my right hand side but my bump doesn't feel completely solid now although I'm sure I can feel something (bum/knees/feet) right over on that side. I'm wondering whether it's moved back to back as the rest of my bump is now quite squishy. Will have to get DH to inflate my gym ball at the weekend as that's meant to be quite comfy and help with positioning I think.

Kayzr · 15/04/2009 17:30

Moosy, DS2 should be a girl then!!!!

SesIsCountingdowntheweeks · 15/04/2009 17:31

Moos - not seen that chart before. It tells me I'm having a girl!

Really spooky though, as I typed the above, I went to automatically type boy (not girl!) I think I'm definitely meant to be kept in suspense!!

Moosy · 15/04/2009 17:31

Ses, one way to tell if it's back to back is to lie flat on your back and see what shape your bump goes. If you get a saucer dip in the middle by your tummy button then it definitly is OP (Occiput Posterior - bad), if you can see/feel a nice smooth back then you're ok!

Diege · 15/04/2009 17:38

PMSL MOOSY at birth debrief . Would love to see a step-by-step invoice for that one . Re: homebirth, just not sure I'd be able to cope as I do go into panic mode (read hyperventilating panic attacks) when contractions start (always full on too). I think I'm concerned how I'd cope without an epidural, thoughn as Nat and others have said, if there ain't one available, I won't focus so much on one! Having said that, they don't do them at birth centre either - would be majorly peed off if tranferred to hossy for one after spending 3 grand . Yes, there is an NHS midwife-led one at the hospital, but as I'm under consultant care midwife wasn't sure if I'd 'qualify' (although as she says I was only placed under CC so I could have a chat with him - I'm technically 'low risk', but she's not sure if I can change over now - may be worth asking again. Home birth ok with her oddly enough...
Have done the chart and was right for dd1, dd2 and this one (ds1). Only out for dd3 so not bad!
