Lol HC

I have even bought fabric to prettify my sling

With nappies the main thing I try and say is that it is better to order just one of several types - most sellers do a 70% refund for nappies returned used within a certain time period. Try them out, then once you have tried them out on your real live baby with their own individual shape you can decide which ones suit your needs best. I can come and bounce about bumbles or something, then someone else swears by fuzzi bunz, another by bumgenius - all work perfectly for our children, but less good for you.

LittleMissBliss · 02/04/2009 19:24

HC i am a pampers user too. Did contimplate going cloth but just never bit the bullet. Probably would have saved me a small fotune and much more eco friendly. But i'm bad enough at keeping up with the clothes washing, MIL is for ever coming to collect our dirty baskets, washing and ironing them! Just got a delivery back today, she is so lovely.

But i do have freedom sling, which i used to use for the Asda shop but found it hurt my back so packed that in. I would really like to find a good sling this time to help with breast feeding whilst still being able to run the house and give ds attention. I spent allot of sofa time feeding with ds, those were the days.....

I never BF DD1 so when I decided to BF DD2 I just assumed that you do have to spend all your time sat feeding on the sofa. Poor DD1, at least she will have DD2 to play with this time when not at school. We bought our first tumble drier after DD2 was born as I couldn't cope with the vast amount of wet clothes.

Just checking in for the evening. I can't go on mnet at work so miss out on your convos.

I started DS1 on Bambino Mio's which I thought were great. Though difficult to keep up with the washing like LMB says. Was ok until he started going to nursery and they banned them! So I started with the biodegradable nappies but too difficult to get hold off so ended up using pampers.

HC I BF DS1 and spent an awful lot of time feeding on the sofa! Gonna be more difficult for me with DS1 charging about! Last time I managed to watch all 3 series of Lovejoy... post natal brain bypass obv.

rubyslippers · 02/04/2009 20:34

hello everyone

how is everyone? Lovely day today - DS and i spent time in the garden after work which was lovely

i need to get a new sling - i fancy a cloth one but not sure what to get. Think i need to research ...

i must tell work next week - we are doing a lot of forward planning and we are a very small org so i think i need to get it sorted

littlepea72 · 02/04/2009 20:39

I was thinking about using cloth, so all this talk is good. Did start off using pampers then huggies, but DS always wet, ended up on Tesco's and they were great. Over here we only have very small black bin that gets emptied every fortnight, so im thinking cloth would be best.

Flamesparrow · 02/04/2009 20:39

I've tried a ring sling, a hug a bub wrap one, and an ergo. The ring sling made my shoulder ache, loved the hugabub to bits, and the ergo I have only used since last summer so only tried on a toddler, but I know it is fabulous for that!

Expecting to use the hugabub mainly, then an ergo as the baby gets older (have borrowed this one so should prob give it back at some point - not like I can use it now!)

rubyslippers · 02/04/2009 20:45

ooh flame - you are an expert on slings AND cloth

woo hoo!

Flamesparrow · 02/04/2009 20:48

lol @ being a sling expert having tried a whole three

rubyslippers · 02/04/2009 20:50

2 more than me!

i refuse to buy a double buggy when DS will be 3.5 yrs when the new baby comes along, so a sling seems the way to go

Icantbelieveitsnotbitter · 02/04/2009 21:18

Glad you're feeling a little more positive Sammysam. I've got an appointment with the fetal specialist tomorrow and I'll let you know exactly what he says.

How far along do you think you were when you first had symptoms ?

From what I can gather from the internet, other mums, etc there isn't a big fuss made about this because it's so unlikely to affect the baby ! Being realistic, you're much more likely to suffer a miscarriage during the first 12 weeks, or pre-eclampsia, or a whole number of other conditions - it's scary to read what could (rarely) happen with this parvovirus but we'd all be raving loonies if we stressed over all the what-ifs !

The most important thing is that your GP and midwife are aware of the possibility that you've had an active infection since falling pregnant and now you'll be monitored. I bet your midwife is reading up on it now !

If you really can't settle this weekend, without some information, maybe a phonecall to NHS direct or NCT might yield some results ?

On a much lighter note, we've now told DS(4) about the baby - which he's delighted with - and I've been given strict instructions not to drive to fast and when asked why, my little cherub told me that if I drive too fast the baby might fall out of my minnie . He then gave me a full account of how he climbed out of said minnie, got some toys, and then climbed back up into my tummy when he was a baby !

I couldn't love that little boy anymore than I do !

littlepea72 · 03/04/2009 09:18

ICBINB.....oh god you have made me laugh so much, the story about your wee one and your "Minnie" lol....isnt it great some of the things they come off with!

smallone · 03/04/2009 09:25

ICBINBitter at the antenatal activities of your DS!

I had totsbots fluffles for dd, birth to potty nappy with different sized wraps. I got them coz we don't have a tumble drier and they dry really quickly. They have extra inserts which you can use to make them extra absorbant. We used disposables for the first couple of months coz they seemed to restrict her legs when she was tiny, plus I had enough to be getting to grips with already! On the mess side of things I found that disposables leak so much anyway that I was having to soak/wash tonnes of clothes so thought I might aswell be doing it with nappies, and on the plus side the washables seal better so don't leak poo. We had 18 nappies and 6 wraps, coz you can reuse for a day or until they get wet/dirty. I used to wash every other night. I will say that the liners make a big difference, tots bots have changed their liners and they're too thin and narrow so I started getting other ones which contained more "solids".

Never had a problem with being out and about, you can just flush away the nasties and fold it up and stick it in a nappy bag til you get home. I did use eco disposables at night tho, mostly because I didn't want her waking me up to change her in the night if I could avoid it, but I'm sure others have done this successfully.

On the sling side of things I made my own pouch sling which was really easy and I loved it, only down side was I had to make two coz they are size specific, so I had one and dh had one. I made them out of fleece and they doubled up as a blanket for her carseat which meant I always had it with me.

I want to try a ring sling this time so will be digging out my sewing machine in the coming months!

Anyway, I'm not here, I'm baking!

sammysam · 03/04/2009 09:36

Morning all!

I am feeling much better-think I need to get it all out of my system as I had no time on my own from finding out til yesterday.
Icantbelieveitsnotbitter I was 8-9wks so not the best time but hopefully all will be ok! Have you got your results back yet? I would really appreciate any info your specialist tells you as I think it'll be some time before I get any!!

Have finally told all out family now so can tell more friends......

I'm loving all this talk of slings and nappies-I'm so tempted to get a few new ones-especially with the mention of discount!!! I'll definately need some small wraps as we only had tots bots ones in small-they were rubbish!! But also nearly all of our nappies were one sized (part of the money saving plan!) so if we want to use them a bit earlier this time some smaller ones might be good! Mind you dd wasn't very small at 8lbs 14 so think this one may be quite big-especially as mw said on tues that i'm measuring big already -so maybe I won't need small ones

Like flame said-it does all fall into place and to be honest there is no real rush as so much of the stuff you won't even use for a while.

I'm knackered today-woke up in the middle of the night after a tree man inspired nightmare and then couldn't get back to sleep for hours and have a busy day of swimming, babysitting and spending the evening with my friend whos wedding it is tomorrow-may have to leave early though as don't want to get overtired and make my ms bad for the wedding!

I hope everyone is all good-are there any scans today?

HumphreysCorner · 03/04/2009 11:06

Ew-have just been very sick, no wonder I have a headache with all that acid. Trouble is my pelvic floor is rubbish so have wet myself. Having a peanut butter sandwich now.

sammysam-glad you feel a tad brighter today.

Icantbelieveitsnotbitter-you made me laugh to. DD1 still believes she was a little star in the sky with DD2 and we picked them and put them in my tummy. She remembers sat with DD2 looking down at me and DH.

headabovewater-hope you are OK as you have only posted once.

Love to all, feel so icky so off for a lie down.

SassJ · 03/04/2009 11:50

Hello everyone, been keeping a close eye for a good few weeks comparing notes, and now I'm over the 12 week hump (12+4) and we had our first scan on Tuesday (so I know there's really a baby in there - with hiccups!), I feel brave enough to say Hi!
I'm 35 in a couple of weeks, live in SW London, and it's my very first pregnancy - I'm due October 12th.
No morning sickness, thank goodness, but constant indegestion and awful spotty skin, which thankfully has cleared up this week - hurrah!
I have my first midwife appointment on Sunday, but until then I have a few questions that I'm hoping 'Team October' can help me with.
When should I switch to non-wired bras? Am hoping I can leave it another few months, because my boobs are ENORMOUS now (already up two sizes to a G - is this normal?).
What position are you all sleeping in? Are you still in pre-preggers positions, or sticking to left side with multiple pillows? Anyone got any suggestions for helping to sleep with never-ending indigestion?
Thanks! and hope to speak to you all again soon!

paranoidmummy · 03/04/2009 11:58

oooh i love this sling talk! I only had a baby bjorn with ds2, nothing with ds1 that i thought was a pretty useless carrier so am in the market for a really good sling this time. ds2 will only be 18 months when this one arrives but I'm not getting a double yet. I feel it could be a wast of money . He's in a bugaboo cameleon at the moment so I've been a bit spoilt and am now not very impressed with any of the doubles. I like having baby facing me, which is especially important with ds2 cos of his hearing. So I was thinking a combi of a sling and a buggy board to see how that goes? Only use the buggy for the sv=chool run really so I just feel a double would wast so much money. Then but a maclaren or something for ds2 for holidays and shove dd1 in the bugaboo. Oh god, essay, I haven't bee n thinking about this much honest!
Sorry to hear some of you have worries Its so stressful, please try to remember the risk is so minimal even with infections. When I was preg with ds1 I was so naive and knew nothing about any congential infections etc... I so wish I could go back to that. I spent my whole second preg TOTALLY paranoid cos I read up so much and it was quite stressful! When ds2 was found to be deaf they thought it may be cmv i had caught n preg so i spent endless hours googling it. Luckily wasn't that! But... it just goes to show there is SO much around that could cause harm and the chances of it actually happening are so very small which is why most preg people haven't heard of half of them. This is supposed to sound reassuring but not really getting there! Just want to say thinking of you anyway.
Got full cvs report yesterday, so nice to see in writing that she is all ok. Am 15 wks today but my scan isn't til i'm over 21 wks unfortunately

how is everyone else doing? any scans coming up?

ps. is there a stats list of everyone on this thread? i can't remeber. shared brain cells and all that

paranoidmummy · 03/04/2009 12:01

sossy sass x posts! HI!

KKKKaty · 03/04/2009 12:13

Hello all

Haven't posted in a while, so I thought I'd just say hello.

Sorry to those with infection worries. x

Am getting a little mind-boggled thinking about all the things that need to be researched, decided upon and bought! Prams, car seats, slings, nappies - especially nappies - so many sorts! Also I can't decide whether I want to know if it's a boy or a girl at the scan at 20 weeks. I may not have a choice really since DH is in the healthcare biz and therefore will probably be able to see on the pictures anyway. And if he knows, I'm knowing!

So much to think about (but I'm loving it!)

HumphreysCorner · 03/04/2009 12:22

Hello and welcome Sass-big congrats. I ditched the underwired bra and dug out a maternity one on the day I got a BFP as my boobs were killing me (even worse now). I still sleep on my side and will all the way through. I do think last pregnancy I may I shoved a pillow under my bump to try and see if it helped-can't remember.

Must get some more bread.

Laters!

Flamesparrow · 03/04/2009 12:47

Bras you don't have to change as long as you make sure that they do fit you properly and the wires are in the right places. I am planning on keeping my wires as long as possible this time - 34F and they hurt without.

I know I have 2 nappy emails - I am going to reply later on, was going to now, but have just noticed DS is asleep so I am going to too!

Treats · 03/04/2009 14:10

Great to hear all the advice about buggies and slings on here. Thanks for all the tips! Interested to hear all the fans of cloth nappies. I hadn't realised that people still used these!! I think I'll be using disposables until the first shock of new motherhood is over, but will definitely look into them after a month or two.

sammysam - I'm glad you're feeling more positive. I can't quite relate to what you're going through, but I did feel similar last week when I heard about my potential gastroschisis diagnosis. What I found really helpful was doing what I had planned to do - telling my friends and colleagues about the pregnancy - but I didn't tell them about the diagnosis. Everyone is so pleased and excited for us and people want to chat about the all the exciting and enjoyable aspects of the pregnancy. It's reminded me that there is still so much to look forward to, and that the gastroschisis will only be a small part of my baby and their future life. I don't know if that will help you at all, but I hope you find something to put your mind at rest soon.

hi to everyone else. don't have quite enough time to catch up on all the messages on our brand new thread, but glad that everyone seems to be well.

stroopwafel · 03/04/2009 14:20

ICBINB - fab minnie story.. what a sweetheart! Cant wait to share our news with ds at our 12 week scan.

Sass - welcome! I also changed to non wired bras within weeks of getting pg this time. Just too uncomfortable otherwise. So I think if you are still comfy... stick with it. I did think there was a poss of damaging tissue with underwires, but might just be my addled brain remembering it wrong from last pg.

And forget talk of new prams... I want one of these. Oh yeah! (well it is kinda flat around here, and cycle paths everywhere)

Flamesparrow · 03/04/2009 14:40

Stroop - I have one of those will be selling it come May though.

Ooh just noticed

I feel very tired and sick today. Typical seeing as I am going out tonight
