You have all gone quiet I guess you are all on holiday or at least the schools are all now off.We are all on holiday at home and doing lots of day trips (short ones)as I get exhausted still!!

We watched a great family movie last night with DH DD1 (9) DD2(7) DDS(3) and it was great for all."Mins Island" Does anyone have any suggestions about other family movies ?

Sickness is improving.

Funny story the Dr forgot about me last week after he gave me accupuncture after 40 mins I removed the needles and put them in the sharps bin!!!He is a lovely DR and all his collegues are giving him a hard time.(one of his collegues did it once and went home for the day.Not so easy to remove needles from your back!!!)

Have a good day.I am off to do some Easter decorations with the children.

rubyslippers · 07/04/2009 07:49

hi all

Not on holiday - still working!

potty training - we had 3 attempts with DS. He got it on the 3rd go, so don't be disheartened if things don't go too well at first

am at your accupuncture story fidelma!

hope everyone has a lovely day

Flamesparrow · 07/04/2009 07:51

LMB - The NCT classes are different afaik, no idea what you get from them worth a couple of hundred quid that you can't from a basic antenatal class though. I will do the local one this time - didn't with DS and missed them (plus I can go armed with business cards )

Littlepea for sister's FIL

I am in maternity leggings today (also in bag of stuff from my mate). Can't believe how good they feel

Have woken all enthusiastic with life n stuff. Tis most odd. I am generally Very Grumpy until at least 10am.

LittleMissBliss · 07/04/2009 08:36

Flame i am curious of what you get for that kind of money... treats if you do go please let us know!

I just think if was me that I could use the money to get loads of lovely baby clothes (for this girl that i'm having...... daydream.....) and a swish breast pump, I hated my hand pump such PITA.

In my antenatal classes we were taught,

Process of birth, stages of labour.
Pain releif available and at what stage of labour it will be offered. side effects etc.
Number of people who will be in the room for the delivery, vaginal and c-section.
none of that breathing stuff you see in films, we were just told that every woman finds a rythme that works for her.
Oh and the importnace of panting, will actually try and put that into practice this time might save on the stitches.
they also showed us forceps, a vontoose(sp) (that head plunger thing) and explained in what situation they may need to be used.
Told us the hospital percentage for CS.
Then we were offered a tour of the labour ward. It think it was arround 4 hours all together.

Reading that back i spose it was quite usefull, but knew most of it from biology lessons, friends and T.V (watch far too many birthing programmes)!. Probably much more useful for DP who was clueless.

Hope you are all having a lovely Easter break.

Hi all

LittleMissBliss-I bought an Avent electric pump straight away and even though I never go more than an ounce out it was so much easier once you set the pump speed. Didn't help when I washed the motor Seems OK now though. Will have to dig it all out and sterilise at some point in the future.

I need to practise breathing while in labour as I always hold my breath during a contraction which the MW's tell me off about as it starves your baby of oxygen.

Any more scans this week?

Have a lovely day girls. Got a craving for the Pizza Hut so may have to drive 5 miles into town later for a takeaway. Do need some eggs and bits so not an entirely wasted journey.

15 weeks!

sammysam · 07/04/2009 09:03

Morning!

Thanks for the potty training tips......I think she is ready but very prepared for it not to work I'm kinda ready-but it's now or the summer hols-and then I may be too big to be on the floor cleaning up so we are going to give it a very good go!

What the hell do you do if they fall asleep in the day? And in the car? So should have thought about this before!!!

Littlepea-so sorry about your sis FIL-but as you say he is no longer in pain

fidelma- at your doc leaving the needles in for so long but hopefuly that'll mean they work twice as much!! Very that your gp does that! Is it on the NHS? I pay £38 an hour for mine-so I need your GP!!!!!

LMB-I hope your ds is better today

The sun is out again today-really should try and spend some time outside.....

HumphreysCorner · 07/04/2009 09:16

sammysam-I put 2 towels both folded double on the settee so when she fell asleep or watched TV and wet herself it went on the towel and I also treble folded a towel and put it in the car seat. I bought a few pairs of joggy bottoms from Tescos and a cheap 6 pack of pants, put these and spare socks and T-Shirts oh and shoes as the wee goes everywhere in a bag with wipes and carry it everywhere. With DD1 I made the mistake of putting nappies on in the car and around town/Tescos and it took forever to train her. With DD2 I took her to the toilets in town every 1/2 hour and she eventually did one and got lots of praise. In Tescos I dump the trolley and run to the toilets and then come back and carry on. Half the time she didn't go but I never could tell until we got in the toilet. I did stay at home 4 days in a row before going out (apart from the school run) and she cracked it in those 4 days so going out was fine. Must say that she refused to sit on the potty or the toilet shrinker I had so bought this and it worked a treat. Go for it! Me and Willmouse agreed that potty training was worse than childbirth as at least with childbirth there is an end in sight whereas potty training could go on and on and on.....

MrsPuddleduck · 07/04/2009 09:59

Morning all.

Sorry I have been away so long - and to make it worse I can't catch up with all the threads!

Scan was last week and they moved me forward to 14th October so now I am past 12 weeks I am happily wearing maternity clothes.

I am supposed to be going back some time before Thursday for a nuchal fold scan although my blood test is not back yet so they have still not given me the call. Aparently I will be classed as high risk because of my age - 34 -

I am not very impressed as they (Stafford - say no more) have 'mislabelled' some of my blood tests so I have got to go and have them all again later this week. I phoned up and went nuts and was assured it was not the downs test that was missing. If they cock up the nuchal fold scan (which looks likely at the moment) and I have to wait and have the triple test I will not be pleased.

Rant over.

Sammysam - HC is right about the toilet seat. We have the Thomas version and DS2 is really good on it.

Hi to everyone else, I will try and keep in the loop from now on!

hackneybird · 07/04/2009 10:31

Welcome Littlejay, and congratulations.

HC - hope your headaches pass soon. I have just started getting them and they are so uncomfortable. I get them at night for some reason, although I am well staying hydrated. And you?re 15 weeks! Wow.

Sam, really pleased to hear you?re feeling so much more upbeat. ICBINB I am happy that the initial prognosis for you both is so positive.

Calypso ? did I hear you say you feel normal? God I can?t wait for that, have forgotten what it?s like!

Treats I am also suffering with the waistbands. I gave in and bought some maternity jeans, I need to get them taken up  but am looking forward to wearing something that doesn?t pinch me. I also worry about whether too tight clothes will affect the baby. Or am I being stupid?

Willmouse I am 35 and in the ?high risk? group as well .

HumphreysCorner · 07/04/2009 10:38

I am 39 so extremely high risk apparently hence my amnio 1 week today.

Don't wear clothes too tight as a) uncomfortable and b) not sure baby will like it.

MrsPuddleduck · 07/04/2009 10:46

Just had a letter from the hospital and it turns out that I am low risk for downs syndrome and no futher testing is recommended. So much for my age making me high risk Also the letter came from Birmingham Womens Hospital which is aparently the test which has gone missing

DH now thinks that they have got the blood samples mixed up and that I should demand the test anyway... Good job I feel too ill to be bothered.

Sparklytwinkletoes · 07/04/2009 11:26

Hi everyone, sorry for long absence, been busy with illness (DS and I) and work and visiting family.

I feel ridiculously well and its really wierd after being so poorly in my first pg. I keep whipping my doppler out to check everythings OK - and I keep finding the HB so I know it is .

Only problem is, that after eating for England from week 6 - 12, I'm now in week 14 and can't face eating at all. I've managed two mugs of hot chocolate and a pack of plain crisps today, I don't feel ill, unless I think about eating...what's all this about? Is it OK do you think? I am quite tubby so have plenty of reserves!

Can't believe I'm 14 weeks today!

lixanismapolium · 07/04/2009 13:42

Hi all - I have now told my news at home and at work and it feels so good to be able to wear maternity trousers to work!!! I was really struggling to hold it all in last week and it was hurting my back!

My 4 yr old is absolutely thrilled that she is going to be a big sister (after the initial annoyance that the baby is in my tummy when she wants it in hers!). She has been 'looking after' me ever since we told her. She even tells me to be careful when I sneeze. It's lovely to see.

I am starting to feel less sick, still getting tired though. Hopefully the end of the sickness is in sight for all of you now. It feels like it has gone on for years!

I tried potty training too early with DD. The 2nd time around she told me that she wasn't wearing nappies any more and we never looked back. Only 1 or 2 accidents. Good luck!

Sparklytwinkletoes · 07/04/2009 15:26

I can't believe how quiet its been in here today Xmas Smile

Lixan - I started wearing my maternity clothes at work last week after my scan, SUCH a relief! DS has been proudly telling everyone at nursery that 'mummy has a baby in her tummy'. There are a couple of others in his group that have pg mums so there's lots of positive talk about it. Him and the other two with pg mums are going over to visit the nursery baby unit tomorrow - will be very interesting to hear what he makes of that! Xmas Hmm

blondie80 · 07/04/2009 16:39

hackneybird · 07/04/2009 16:45

Hi blondie

Welcome and congratulations.

idreamofbeanie · 07/04/2009 17:48

Hi all,

congratulations Blondie, def welcome on the October bus.

I am still managing with my usual clothes during the day but a friend has just hunted out her maternity jogging bottoms which are just bliss in the evening when I feel a bit bloated.

Lix - dd sounds cute, how lovely that she is looking forward to a little sibling.

I have signed up for NCT classes too (sorry can't remember who else said they were doing them) and I've also just contacted someone about pregnancy yoga. The classes have been recommended by someone at work so now I'm just hoping there will be lots of yoga virgins and I'm not surrounded by loads of flexible bendy people tying themselves in knots while I struggle to reach my toes .

I have my 16 week appt with the midwife this week (a bit early as we are off to Cornwall after that) and I'm going to ask her about having a home birth. I've heard that the midwife team I see is really supportive of HBs and I should class as low risk so hopefully she'll be okay about it. Is anyone else planning a HB?

SassJ · 07/04/2009 18:01

Hi everyone! Welcome to all the newbies, Congratulations!
Anyone have any brilliant suggestions on where to look for maternity clothes? Am lucky enough not to be working now, so can wander around the house with all my (trouser) buttons undone, but I can't really go out in public like that! Have looked at Next.com, and they have quite a nice selection, but the other stores I've found online have either very 'dressy' (as in work wear / evening wear) and quite pricey, or really frilly girly stuff that I'm definitely not into. Looking for nice simple plain colours and simple prints - absolutely no gingham or bows!! Any ideas? Be super grateful.....
Glad that lots of you are starting to feel better about eating. We're all into our second trimester pretty much, aren't we? Anyone got shining flowing locks and glowing skin yet? or are you battling chronic indigestion, bloated tums and pronounced leg veins? Guess which group I fall into (grrr).

Flamesparrow · 07/04/2009 18:04

Ooh yes, I need to sort ou tmy yoga thing - will email the woman now. I have to pay upfront from 15-36 weeks, but thinking it will force me to go.

SassJ · 07/04/2009 18:14

Hey IDofB - I saw my midwife on Sunday and she asked if I was interested in a home birth. I must say it is appealing (first timer at 34, with good bloodwork and tests etc). I think I'm a bit chicken though, so we're going to stay at home as long as possible through the labour and then go for a water birth in the midwife led hospital suite (just in case and because husband tells me he'd rather we did this). If all goes well with number one and we have the energy for a second one, I reckon we'd definitely go for a HB. So nice to be in your own home and not have to stay in a ward and then drive home etc....
Re. Yoga - I was thinking of having a go at home with the wii fit and just taking it slow - what do you guys reckon?

theboob · 07/04/2009 18:21

hello all and welcome to the newbies

well i can no longer see my toes or other things i really feel like a heffer today and 25 more weeks of gettin bigger and i may pop

nice to hear the sickness seems to be getting better for most, maybe we shall all start blooming soon

have a great half term ladies,my dc dont break up till thursday so i'm enjoying some time to myself for a few days

princessmel · 07/04/2009 18:31

Hello

I have been following this thread since the first one.
I am 30 and this will be my 3rd dc. My ds is 6 and my dd is 3.
I am due on Oct 22nd and I am almost 12 weeks.

I had my scan today. I didn't want to post on here untill I had seen that there is def a baby in there!

I am feeling a bit weak this afternoon but generally am feeling better. I started to feel better at 10 weeks ish. Before that I felt very sicky and tired and pathetic.

I was lying in bed for as much as possible and dh was doing all the tidying, hoovering, cooking etc. I could jus about manage school runs and bedtime stories (in my bed so I didn't have to move)

I have borrowed a doppler from a friend and have heard the hb twice. I am just going to try it every now and again.

My tummy is sort of getting bigger. It seems big today and today is the day I have gone 'public'!! I can't fit onto any of my skinny jeans anymore and have 1 pair of looser bootcuts that fit. I have been lent a load of maternity stuff from a friend and will get my stuff from the loft soon. I am wearing leggins today and they are comfy.

Anyway I hope you are all ok

fidelma · 07/04/2009 18:43

sammy yes my gps are doing the accupuncture for freeDo ask as someone maybe quallified they don't always advertise it though.Worth a try.

Welcome newbies.

I would love a home birth but will most likely need to be induced at 40+ something weeks. Also my babies are big ! 10lb last one so best to be at hospital just incase.I recon if you have had one straight forward birth its a good idea. My girl friend had her 3rd and 4th at home and it sounded blissful.(her 2nd was born in the car !!!)

I quite like the look of the Jo JO mama bebe maternity range.Must order some this week as I am bursting out of my clothes.

DH off this week.We got up yesterday to find that the central heating boiler has given up the ghost!! We need a new one ASAP. what a pain.No central heating (cold in scotland) and no hot water.I would of much rather spend the money on somethong lovely.

Flamesparrow · 07/04/2009 18:50

Sass - no, don't do wii fit yoga. There are various positions that can cause problems etc, best to have a proper class during pregnancy tbh.

Yay PrincessMel.

Am I insane if I think I am feeling movements? It isn't wind, it isn't the early kick feeling, just that weirdy quickening.

Have emailed my yoga woman to see if I can be in the class I want

I had DD at midwife unit - homebirth wouldn't have crossed my mind. DS though was homebirth and I loved it. Bar me being stupidly early/late or there being a litter in here, I aim for another HB.

LittleMissBliss · 07/04/2009 20:35

sassJ funmum is quite good for casual less frilly maternity stuff
